Pok Ball Plus: The Good

IS POKÉMON GO PLUS WORTH IT? (Unboxing & Review)

I immediately noticed the Poké Ball Plus clearly has much higher production value. After using it to play my copy of Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee I was pretty satisfied. I then popped open Pokémon Go to see what it could do. It connects quickly, and usually seems to register Pokémon very quickly. In the regular Plus there is often an annoying delay between registering the next thing it needs to interact with. That seems to have been minimized with the ball. It also follows the regular protocol for a plus in terms of vibrations and LED colors.

It automatically spins Pokéstops which is altogether quite awesome and perhaps my favorite thing about the ball.

Of course, it’s rechargeable. I haven’t yet run out of battery while trying to use the ball but I also haven’t put it to the test to see how many hours of continuous use it has.

And we can’t forget, it tracks distance and that’s just great.

Usefulness Compared To Phone

The usefulness of the Pokémon Go Plus depends entirely on what you’re trying to achieve in the game.

If you’re going on the hunt for new Pokémon, then the device doesn’t offer you much help since there’s no way of checking which Pokémon are nearby .

Likewise, if you’re looking to battle at gyms then the Plus won’t help you out because that’s functionality that you can only access through the app itself.

We’d love it if the device was something we could put on and forget about, allowing us to rack up the miles on our eggs while going about our day, but the amount of notifications the Plus gives you means that it takes up almost all of your attention while you’re using it.

It would be nice if you could put the device in some kind of distance-tracking-only mode to let you work on hatching eggs without being bothered by other notifications, but the device is very much a one-mode-only wearable.

It’s worth noting that the wearable doesn’t contain a GPS tracker of its own, and so problems with distance tracking within the app unfortunately remain when using the Plus.

What Pokeballs Does Pokemon Go Plus Use

For better or for worse, Pokemon Go Plus will only use standard-issue Pokeballs for the process above, at least in its launch state. All this is theoretically handled software-side, so it could be patched, but for now it’s Pokeballs only.

This also means that if you run out of Pokeballs the Go Plus will stop catching Pokemon – it annoyingly won’t start using Great or Ultra Balls instead.

In practice what this means is that you can’t use higher quality Pokeballs such as Great Balls or Ultra Balls with Pokemon Go Plus. This makes it harder to catch more significant Pokemon with the device. Tougher Pokemon are more likely to escape from Pokeballs and then flee you – so you want to keep that in mind.

Can I Use Pokemon Go Plus With My Phone Locked

Oh, boy – this is one of the most exciting features of this device… Yes, you can. Pokemon Go Plus lets you perform a variety of in-game tasks in Pokemon Go without having to remove your phone from your pocket. We’ll talk more about what exactly the Go Plus can do later.

There is one small catch, which is that you must ensure that Pokemon Go is running as the main app on your phone before you lock it. On iOS this involves being on the top as far as we can tell, while on Android it can be running in the background. You’ll know when things are correct because when you tap the central button on the Pokemon Go Plus it’ll vibrate to let you know it’s connected. All you have to do then is wait for the device to vibrate and flash.

Does Pokemon Go Plus Collect Items And Activate Pokestops

Yes, Pokemon Go Plus will also handle Pokestop visits for you. When you’re within range of a Pokestop the device will again vibrate, but when you look at it you’ll notice a blue light. This blue light indicates there’s a Pokestop and helps you to know that this isn’t a Pokemon encounter. Simply tap the button and your Pokemon Go Plus will do the rest, spinning the Pokestop and picking up any available items and experience points there.

If a Pokestop and a Pokemon spawn overlap, the Go Plus will always prioritise catching Pokemon over spinning a Pokestop.

Pokemon Go Plus Will Alert You If The Pokemon Is New

Instead of a green light and single repeating vibration, if the Pokemon is one you haven’t caught before a yellow light with three consecutive vibrations will occur. Though the simple click-a-button-to-catch-a-Pokemon function will potentially work, it’s a good idea to use your phone instead, for a better chance to catch. Keep in mind that pressing the button only throws a Poke Ball, which does not guarantee a capture. If successful, the Pokemon Go Plus will vibrate and flash a variety of colors, if failed, the Plus will flash red. The Pokmon Go Plus is only capable of using Poke Balls, and will blink red if you’re out. If you want to use a Razz Berry? Youll have to use your phone for that.

How Do You Pair A Pokemon Go Plus

First, make sure your phones Bluetooth is on. Pair with your smartphone and then open the Pokemon Go app. Click the Pokeball icon and choose to go to the Settings. Once you see an option to connect to the Pokemon Go Plus, tap on it and it should start searching for the device.

Tap on the device to sync with your phone and it should light up to notify you that they are now connected. Now, you dont have to look at your smartphone all the time. Simply put it in your pocket while the gadget keeps you in the game.

Pokemon Go Plus Works While The App Runs In The Background

This is the biggest feature Pokemon Go Plus brings to players. Not only will you not have to stare at your screen while walking, but the app wont even have to be actively running! Simply open the app, sign into Pokemon Go, and put your device on screen lock to save battery power. The Pokemon Go Plus will still notify you of nearby Pokemon and PokeStops, allowing you to simply click the button to catch Pokemon or collect items.

Pokemon Go Plus: What Every Colored Flashing Light Means

Pokémon Go Plus review

Red, Blue, or Green.

Pokemon GO Plus is now available and once you have one of the devices you will be able to catch them all without staring at your phone all the time.

When you are travelling with your Pokemon GO Plus device, it will try to find nearby Pokemon and activate Poke Stops. The device will flash a certain color, with each color indicating something different. Listed below are the different lights and what they mean:

Green Light: The device will flash green and vibrate when a Pokemon you have already caught is nearby. To attempt to catch the Pokemon, simply press the central button.

Yellow Light: The device will flash yellow and vibrate when a new species of Pokemon is nearby.

Red Light: The device will flash red when trying to catch a Pokemon if you are out of regular PokeBalls. Alternatively, a red flashing light could indicate you failed to catch a Pokemon.

White Light: The device will flash white when it is attempting to catch a Pokemon.

Multicolored: The device will flash seven different colors when you have succeeded in catching a Pokemon. It will do the same when you successfully activate a PokeStop.

Blue Light: The device will flash blue when you are passing a PokeStop.

That is what every colored light means on your Pokemon GO Plus device. Enjoy catching them all on your adventures.

What Is The Pok Ball Plus And How Does It Work

The Poké Ball Plus still hasn’t been completely explained – although there’s plenty we do know already.

We know it’ll function like a Pokémon Go Plus – more on that itself below – when connected to Pokémon Go, allowing you to do all the same things like catch Pokémon and spin stops as you go.

As well as that, we know it’ll have Pokéwalker-style functions for your Pokémon from Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. You can put them “in” the Poké Ball Plus and, by tracking your steps as you walk around with it, it’ll unlock certain unspecified benefits for you or your Pokémon in-game. Junichi Masuda, head of Let’s Go developer Game Freak, also confirmed to us that there will be some different, special features.

“One cool thing if you put your partner Pokémon – so maybe your Pikachu – inside of it, I think maybe there’s some extra things that makes it feel as though the Pokémon is really inside the ball… for example if you shake it, it’ll actually sounds like it’s in there, so things like that – and also some things we haven’t revealed, that are cool that affect the gameplay if you walk around with it,” he said.

We weren’t allowed to touch it out in Japan but, rest assured, were told it felt very nice. It has both a wrist strap and a smaller hoop for you to hook a finger through to make sure it’s secure in your hand – and so no kids go throwing it through the TV.

Pokmon Go Plus The Dated Original

If you want a simple way to speed up your Pokémon Go progress without losing the Poké-essence, the Pokémon Go Plus is the device for you. It features a plastic build that screams Im playing Pokémon Go, so its also a good way to meet fellow players on the street.

Whenever a Pokémon or Pokéstop is nearby, the device will vibrate and light up, making the Pokémon Go Plus easy to use. The light indicates if its a new or duplicate Pokémon, and pushing the button will spin the Pokéstop or throw a single Poké ball. If the first Poké Ball fails, the Pokémon escapes.

It might seem like a bummer that it only throws a single Poké Ball , but its worth mentioning that both the other devices on this list work the same way. Youll have to pull out your phone to use berries or better types of Poké Balls.

The Pokémon Go Plus’ battery is a major drawback.

The worst part about the Pokémon Go Plus is the battery. It comes with a single CR2032 battery, and youll need to purchase a new battery to keep the fun going. You can buy a new Pokémon Go Plus battery here, but it is an added hassle in the age of rechargeable devices.

Its worth noting that although it isnt available yet, there is a Pokémon Go Plus+ on the way. It appears to be similar to the original, if a little bit more stylish. It will also work as a sleep tracker for the upcoming game Pokémon Sleep. Stay tuned for more details on this new Pokémon Go device in the near future.

Pokemon GO “PLUS” – WHAT DOES IT DO!? (Unboxing, Gameplay + Review)

If you want to catch more Pokémon and spin more PokéStops more easily than ever before, so you can level up faster and stockpile more items than you ever thought possible, and you’re willing to put up with the connection issues and all the fleeing, then yes, absolutely, get a Pokémon Go Plus.

Conversely, you can also use Pokémon Go Plus without having to use the app. That means your phone can stay in your pocket and your eyes and attention can stay on what matters the wilderness you’re hiking through, the traffic flow around the street you’re walking down, the person at lunch you’re supposed to be having a conversation with.

Also, keeping your head up is as good for your posture as keeping you eyes on the world around you is for your quality of life and survivability!

Pok Ball Plus: The Bad

I’m sad to report that the Poké Ball Plus certainly has its downsides.

The biggest problem to me is the size. It doesn’t go well in a pocket, at least not the pocket on a pair of jeans. It fits into a hoodie pocket without issue, the thing isn’t exactly large. But that leaves the 2nd biggest problem. The Poké Ball Plus has 2 buttons, the top button and the joystick button, and you can connect to the Pokémon Go app with either one. However, you can only use the top button to interact with Pokémon. The issue is that the top button is not physically differentiated in any way and barely has a ring around it that you can feel with your finger. When it vibrates in my pocket I basically have to squeeze the entire ball until it works because I can’t tell where the top button is. This would all be solved if the joystick button also worked, but it doesn’t. This is one of the most annoying things about the Poké Ball Plus, though it can be worked with.

Related, is that you then aren’t really able to hit the button while it’s in your pocket. The regular plus is somewhat flat, so you can leave it in your pocket with the button facing outward and easily find and hit it when you need to. The Poké Ball is big and round, and the top button doesn’t stick out, so you can’t really use it from your pocket at all. It seems to only be practical if I put it in a hoodie pocket and keep my hand in there and positioned properly on the ball to hit the button.
