Update 5/11/2021: Sylveon is being added to Pokemon GO as part of the Luminous Legends Y event. Sylveon will make its Pokemon GO debut during Part 2 of the event which is set to begin on Tuesday, May 25.
Pokemon GO allows players to evolve their Eevee into many of its known evolutions. One Eevee evolution that has caught the attention of players recently is Sylveon, and if this character is available for players of the fan-favorite mobile to obtain for their collections. Fortunately, we have everything that is currently known about Sylveon in the title covered for you.
Earn Buddy Hearts With Eevee
The standard way to evolve Eevee into Sylveon is simply to earn enough hearts with it while it’s set as your Buddy Pokemon. You’ll earn hearts with Eevee by feeding, playing, and taking snapshots of it. You’ll need to earn 70 hearts for it to evolve into Sylveon, however–so while this process is straightforward, it’s also a bit time-consuming. Once you’ve earned 70 hearts, the question mark on Eevee’s Evolve button will change to a silhouette of Sylveon.

The nickname trick will work if you haven’t used it already. Otherwise, you’ll need to evolve them just like any other Eevee. The same goes for the flower crown costumed Eevee.

Eevee Evolutions: How To Evolve Into Sylveon Glaceon Leafeon Umbreon Espeon Vaporeon Flareon And Jolteon In Pokemon Go
Eevee Evolution is meant to be a random process in Pokemon Go. Once you press evolve on an Eevee, you have a random chance of getting one of the original three eeveelutions. The others can be obtained through other means, all of which require a bit of effort. There’s also some useful shortcuts and cheats of a sort to get around the random factor. We’ll detail all of that below.
There’s seven Eevee Evolutions in the game so far. Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon from generation 1 are completely down to random chance. Umbreon and Espeon from generation 2 and Leafeon and Glaceon from generation 3 are obtained in specific ways. The final Eevee Evolution is Sylveon, from generation 6, and it was finally added to the game in May 2021.
So, which Eevee Evolution do you want? You’ll want to carefully consider this – each evolved form of Eevee is a different type, so you’ll want to consider strengths and weaknesses with our Pokemon Go Type Chart, at least. Plus which you think is cutest.
How To Get And Use The Glacial Lure & Mossy Lure To Get Glaceon And Leafeon
The final current Eeveelutions available in Pokemon Go are Glaceon and Leafeon, and this duo has the most specific evolution method yet.
First of all, don’t forget that you can do the name trick once again to get Glaceon and Leafeon for the first time. As detailed above, name your Eevee Rea to have it evolve to Glaceon, and name your Eevee Linnea to have it evolve to Leafeon. After that, however, you’ll need to fulfil special requirements to evolve more of these Pokemon.
Specifically, in order to evolve more Eevee into Glaceon or Leafeon, you’ll need some new items: the Glacial Lure and the Mossy Lure. These two new types of Lure Module are available in the shop and will soon be appearing as Field Research Rewards. These lures exist to make you more able to catch different Pokemon – the Glacial lures in Water and Ice type Pokemon, while the Mossy attracts Bug and Grass types.
There’s an added benefit to these, however: when they’re placed, they can impact Eevee Evolution. Simply place one of the lures in a Pokestop if you place the Mossy Lure you’ll be able to evolve any Eevee you have into Leafeon while standing in that Pokestop’s radius . If you place the Glacial Lure on a Pokestop, that’s when you’ll be able to evolve into Glaceon – just remain within the Pokestop’s radius. This works even if you didn’t place the lure, too, so you can share this chance with other players.

Bonus: How To Catch More Eevee In Pokmon To Get More Eevee Evolutions
If youre wondering if its possible to catch more Eevee in Pokémon GO, weve got a convenient solution for you. Unlike other Pokémon, Eevee is available only in limited places. In general, Eevee can be found in over-crowded areas such as the City Center or a college campus. But, if you live on the outskirts of a city, itll become quite challenging to catch Eevee.
In this case, you can use iMyFone AnyTo to catch Eevee. Its a professional location-spoofing tool for iOS and Android users thatll help you change GPS location to another location. It can also work in iOS 15 devices. So, if you want to catch Eevee, you can use iMyFone AnyTo to swap your current GPS location with a densely-populated area like New York.
Once your location is changed, you can even fake your GPS movement using the Multi-spot Mode or Two-spot Mode of iMyFone AnyTo. The reason why using this tool is the best way to catch more Eevee is that you wont have to go out and walk for several miles. You can easily catch all the Eevee without leaving your home at all.

Keep All Your Shinies
There are lots of Eevee evolutions to collect, and if youre a crazy collector youll also want to have both male and female versions.
After using the Eevee name trick, you cant always choose which evolution you get. So make sure to collect plenty of shinies so you can have another shot if you get any doubles.
Also, who knows what Eevee evolutions there will be in the future? Keep plenty of shinies in your Pokémon storage to future-proof your collection.

Nickname Trick For Guaranteed Sylveon
As with other Eevee evolutions, you can also get Sylveon by giving Eevee a specific nickname. In this case, change your Eevee’s name to Kira and you’ll be able to evolve it into Sylveon without having to earn any Buddy hearts. However, this method only works once, so you’ll only be able to evolve Eevee into Sylveon this way one time. If you’d like to add more Sylveon to your collection, you’ll need to evolve them through the aforementioned Buddy heart method.
The second part of the Luminous Legends Y event runs until May 31 and is themed around Eevee. As part of the event, other Eevee evolutions such as Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon, and Umbreon will appear in three-star Raids, and you’ll have a chance to catch Eevee and some of its evolutions by completing event-exclusive Field Research tasks. You can read more about the event on the official Pokemon Go blog.
Sylveon isn’t the only new Pokemon introduced as part of the Luminous Legends event. The panda Pokemon Pancham was also added to the game during the first part of the event, while Yveltal is appearing in five-star Raids. The Legendary Destruction Pokemon will be available throughout the entire event.
How To Evolve Eevee Into Vaporeon Jolteon And Flareon
Well get the bad news out of the way first for these three originals, after youve used the nickname trick, were afraid there isnt really much more you can do to guarantee them.
In order to get any more, youll have to revert to random evolutions by gathering Eevees and candies and keeping your fingers crossed that when it evolves youll get what youre looking for.

Which Is The Best Eeveelution Eeevee Evolutions Ranked
If you’ve got your hands on only one or two Eevee, you’re thus faced with a difficult choice: which of the five Eevee Evolution forms you can currently get is the best one to have? Several of the Eevee Evolutions rank decently in our list of the Best Pokemon for battles in Pokemon Go – in Attack Espeon is ranked 13th and Flareon 18th, while in Defense Umbreon clocks in at 16th. Vapoeron ranks a respectable 10th in HP and Stamina, too – but those are just basic stats. What about beyond that?
Pokemon Types are of course absolutely vital in Pokemon Go, and an important thing to consider is how each Eevee Evolution ranks when compared to other Pokemon of its type – and also how easy they are to obtain compared to their powerful peers. Let’s take a look at that:
The story behind Pokemon Go’s Eevee Evolution names
If you’re wondering where the above names come from, they’re actually a deep-cut nod to fans of the Pokemon anime – a nice little easter egg for players who have been particularly dedicated in their following of the series.
Rainer, Sparky, Pyro, Sakura and Tamao are actually the names of the ‘Eevee brothers’ that appear in the Pokemon anime. The first three Eevee evolutions and their owners – all siblings – show up in episode 40 of the show, meeting Ash and Pikachu. Each brother has a unique Eevee of his own, and it’s after the brothers that the Eevee take their names.
You Can Choose How Eevee Will Evolve In Pokemon Go
Information has surfaced that you can influence the evolution of your Eevee in Pokémon GO simply by changing its name. The details of this easter egg were found in this submission from the /r/pokemongo subreddit.
The methodology is quite simple. Change the name of your Eevee to one of the following to get the corresponding evolutions: Rainer will guarantee a Vaporeon, Sparky will guarantee a Jolteon, and Pyro will guarantee a Flareon. The names are in reference to the Eevee brothers from the anime.
There are a lot of people confirming the trick via comments or screenshots. At least one video purporting to show the trick working has also popped up. Screenshots can be faked or manipulated, and while video can be as well its slightly more of a technical challenge.
That led us to try it out ourselves to verify the information. Techraptors Rutledge Daugette and Jack Jacobs tested the Eevee easter egg themselves and it produced the desired evolution in both cases. While we would prefer some more testing, the tests weve done are enough to confirm what was posted on to a solid degree. Make sure to spell the names correctly as some commenters have lamented getting the wrong evolution due to a misspelling on their part.

What About Vaporeon Jolteon And Flareon
Unfortunately, the original three Eeveelutions are still random. Once you’ve used the nickname trick, you’re pretty much stuck to the random number generator. Fortunately, Eevee is very common and has been around since day one, so most players have entire teams of Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, but if you’re having trouble getting the one you want, you can always trade another player.
How To Evolve Eevee Into Espeon And Umbreon
Espeon and Umbreon do have a secondary means of securing their evolutions, though it takes a little more effort than a simple name change or purchasing a Lure Module.
This method is probably the most involved of all but if your heart is set then itll be worth it. For these Generation 2 evolutions, you have to set your Eevee as your buddy and have it walk with you for 10km in order to earn two candies .
Once thats done, you can evolve your Eevee, but the time of day shown in-game will determine which of the evolutions you get. Evolve Eevee during the day and youll get the Psychic-type Espeon. At night, on the other hand, youll get the Dark-type Umbreon.
This trick can be somewhat finicky, so do make sure that Eevee is still your buddy when you evolve it and ensure that you have GPS signal so that the game has the time of day absolutely right where you are. Fortunately, this isnt limited like the nicknames so you can do it as often as you like .

How To Evolve Eevee Into Umbreon
Evolve Eevee into Umbreon also by raising its Friendship to three hearts, except this time, make sure it levels up during the night time. If you take it to the friendship checker in Hammerlocke, he will say “You two get along great! Together is always better–am I right?”
Make sure Eevee does not know a Fairy-type move, or it will evolve into Sylveon! You can delete a move from the NPC in the left counter inside any Pokemon Center. See How to Raise Friendship for more information.
Location To Find Sylveon In Other Pokemon Games
In the core games also, Sylveon is not available in the wild. To obtain it, you must catch an Eevee and evolve it into a Sylveon. Eevee is available in multiple locations in every Pokemon Game. You can also breed it to get a better moveset.
The process to evolve your Eevee into a Sylveon in the core Pokemon games involves earning two affection hearts in Pokemon Amie while the Eevee knows a Fairy-type move. Once you meet the requirements, you can level it by battling or giving it a rare candy.

How To Rename Eevee To Evolve Into Sylveon Leafeon Glaceon Umbreon Espeon Vaporeon Jolteon And Flareon
Evolving Eevee using the required 25 Eevee candy will produce a random evolution. However, you can control which type it turns into by renaming the monster beforehand:
- Rename “Kira” to evolve into Fairy-type Sylveon
- Rename “Linnea” to evolve into Grass-type Leafeon
- Rename “Rea” to evolve into Ice-type Glaceon
- Rename “Sakura” to evolve into Psychic-type Espeon
- Rename “Tamao” to evolve into Dark-type Umbreon
- Rename “Rainer” to evolve into Water-type Vaporeon
- Rename “Sparky” to evolve into Electric-type Jolteon
- Rename “Pyro” to evolve into Fire-type Flareon
There are some caveats here. This only works one time per evolution, so if you plan to use your Eeveelution in battle, make sure you’ve chosen an Eevee with favourable stats. The naming trick is currently the only guaranteed way to evolve Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon – once you’ve done it once, it’ll be up to random chance if you get another, regardless of what you’ve named it.
There are tricks to reliably evolving the other Eevee varieties more than once, though…
