Earn Buddy Hearts With Eevee
The standard way to evolve Eevee into Sylveon is simply to earn enough hearts with it while it’s set as your Buddy Pokemon. You’ll earn hearts with Eevee by feeding, playing, and taking snapshots of it. You’ll need to earn 70 hearts for it to evolve into Sylveon, however–so while this process is straightforward, it’s also a bit time-consuming. Eevee Evolution is meant to be a random process in Pokemon Go. Once you press evolve on an Eevee, you have a random chance of getting one of the original three eeveelutions. The others can be obtained through other means, all of which require a bit of effort. There’s also some useful shortcuts and cheats of a sort to get around the random factor. We’ll detail all of that below.
There’s seven Eevee Evolutions in the game so far. Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon from generation 1 are completely down to random chance. Umbreon and Espeon from generation 2 and Leafeon and Glaceon from generation 3 are obtained in specific ways. The final Eevee Evolution is Sylveon, from generation 6, and it was finally added to the game in May 2021.

How To Get And Use The Glacial Lure & Mossy Lure To Get Glaceon And Leafeon
The final current Eeveelutions available in Pokemon Go are Glaceon and Leafeon, and this duo has the most specific evolution method yet.
First of all, don’t forget that you can do the name trick once again to get Glaceon and Leafeon for the first time. As detailed above, name your Eevee Rea to have it evolve to Glaceon, and name your Eevee Linnea to have it evolve to Leafeon. After that, however, you’ll need to fulfil special requirements to evolve more of these Pokemon.
Specifically, in order to evolve more Eevee into Glaceon or Leafeon, you’ll need some new items: the Glacial Lure and the Mossy Lure. These two new types of Lure Module are available in the shop and will soon be appearing as Field Research Rewards. These lures exist to make you more able to catch different Pokemon – the Glacial lures in Water and Ice type Pokemon, while the Mossy attracts Bug and Grass types.
There’s an added benefit to these, however: when they’re placed, they can impact Eevee Evolution. Simply place one of the lures in a Pokestop if you place the Mossy Lure you’ll be able to evolve any Eevee you have into Leafeon while standing in that Pokestop’s radius . If you place the Glacial Lure on a Pokestop, that’s when you’ll be able to evolve into Glaceon – just remain within the Pokestop’s radius. This works even if you didn’t place the lure, too, so you can share this chance with other players.

Nickname Trick For Guaranteed Sylveon
As with other Eevee evolutions, you can also get Sylveon by giving Eevee a specific nickname. In this case, change your Eevee’s name to Kira and you’ll be able to evolve it into Sylveon without having to earn any Buddy hearts. However, this method only works once, so you’ll only be able to evolve Eevee into Sylveon this way one time. If you’d like to add more Sylveon to your collection, you’ll need to evolve them through the aforementioned Buddy heart method.
The second part of the Luminous Legends Y event runs until May 31 and is themed around Eevee. As part of the event, other Eevee evolutions such as Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon, and Umbreon will appear in three-star Raids, and you’ll have a chance to catch Eevee and some of its evolutions by completing event-exclusive Field Research tasks. Information has surfaced that you can influence the evolution of your Eevee in Pokémon GO simply by changing its name. The details of this easter egg were found in this submission from the /r/pokemongo subreddit.
The submission in question is just one of many discussing the easter egg this submission by /u/TheAztek popped up yesterday and this one by /u/Arkeren a short while afterwards.
The methodology is quite simple. Change the name of your Eevee to one of the following to get the corresponding evolutions: Rainer will guarantee a Vaporeon, Sparky will guarantee a Jolteon, and Pyro will guarantee a Flareon. The names are in reference to the Eevee brothers from the anime.
There are a lot of people confirming the trick via comments or screenshots. At least one video purporting to show the trick working has also popped up. Screenshots can be faked or manipulated, and while video can be as well its slightly more of a technical challenge.
That led us to try it out ourselves to verify the information. Techraptors Rutledge Daugette and Jack Jacobs tested the Eevee easter egg themselves and it produced the desired evolution in both cases. While we would prefer some more testing, the tests weve done are enough to confirm what was posted on to a solid degree. Make sure to spell the names correctly as some commenters have lamented getting the wrong evolution due to a misspelling on their part.

What About Vaporeon Jolteon And Flareon
Unfortunately, the original three Eeveelutions are still random. Once you’ve used the nickname trick, you’re pretty much stuck to the random number generator. Fortunately, Eevee is very common and has been around since day one, so most players have entire teams of Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, but if you’re having trouble getting the one you want, you can always trade another player.
How To Evolve Eevee Into Espeon And Umbreon
Espeon and Umbreon do have a secondary means of securing their evolutions, though it takes a little more effort than a simple name change or purchasing a Lure Module.
This method is probably the most involved of all but if your heart is set then itll be worth it. For these Generation 2 evolutions, you have to set your Eevee as your buddy and have it walk with you for 10km in order to earn two candies .
Once thats done, you can evolve your Eevee, but the time of day shown in-game will determine which of the evolutions you get. Evolve Eevee during the day and youll get the Psychic-type Espeon. At night, on the other hand, youll get the Dark-type Umbreon.
This trick can be somewhat finicky, so do make sure that Eevee is still your buddy when you evolve it and ensure that you have GPS signal so that the game has the time of day absolutely right where you are. Fortunately, this isnt limited like the nicknames so you can do it as often as you like .

How To Evolve Eevee Into Umbreon
Umbreon is a Dark-type Eevee evolution, introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver.
Evolve Eevee into Umbreon also by raising its Friendship to three hearts, except this time, make sure it levels up during the night time. If you take it to the friendship checker in Hammerlocke, he will say “You two get along great! Together is always better–am I right?”

In the core games also, Sylveon is not available in the wild. To obtain it, you must catch an Eevee and evolve it into a Sylveon. Eevee is available in multiple locations in every Pokemon Game. You can also breed it to get a better moveset.
The process to evolve your Eevee into a Sylveon in the core Pokemon games involves earning two affection hearts in Pokemon Amie while the Eevee knows a Fairy-type move. Once you meet the requirements, you can level it by battling or giving it a rare candy.

How To Rename Eevee To Evolve Into Sylveon Leafeon Glaceon Umbreon Espeon Vaporeon Jolteon And Flareon
Evolving Eevee using the required 25 Eevee candy will produce a random evolution. However, you can control which type it turns into by renaming the monster beforehand:
- Rename “Kira” to evolve into Fairy-type Sylveon
- Rename “Linnea” to evolve into Grass-type Leafeon
- Rename “Rea” to evolve into Ice-type Glaceon
- Rename “Sakura” to evolve into Psychic-type Espeon
- Rename “Tamao” to evolve into Dark-type Umbreon

There are some caveats here. This only works one time per evolution, so if you plan to use your Eeveelution in battle, make sure you’ve chosen an Eevee with favourable stats. The naming trick is currently the only guaranteed way to evolve Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon – once you’ve done it once, it’ll be up to random chance if you get another, regardless of what you’ve named it.
