What Pokemon Card Is Worth The Most Money

Must read

First Edition Holographic Raichu

RARE POKEMON CARDS WORTH MONEY – MOST VALUABLE POKEMON CARDS!!

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $2,500

Raichu, the rodent-like evolved form of Pikachu, is an electric-type Pokémon that uses its tail to gather electricity from both the ground and atmosphere.

As it charges, the creature stores the electricity in those circular, yellow sacs on its cheeks and once fully charged, Raichu’s ears will point directly upwards.

Raichu also uses its pointed tail as a ground to prevent itself from being electrically shocked.

First Edition Holographic Blastoise

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $5,500

A water-type Pokémon, Blastoise first appears in the Pokémon Red and Blue video games as the final evolutionary stage of Squirtle, one of the original three starter Pokémon.

Relying on twin water cannons that retract from the shell on its back, Blastoise is capable of delivering powerful blasts of water with superior accuracy.

And just as we saw Charizard’s boost in popularity stemming from its appearance on the cover art of the Pokémon Red video game, Blastoise was the center of attention on the Pokémon Blue video game:

Rightfully considered one of the coolest-looking of all Pokémon, Blastoise remains a collector favorite and this card can bring thousands of dollars in high grade.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Venusaur #15

Now were getting somewhere. The final evolution of the starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, Venusaur had a massive part to play in both the games and the anime as one of the mainstays in Ashs party.

It featured on-the-box art for the original Japanese version of the game, although the Green edition was never released worldwide.

With over 137 PSA 10 copies in existence, the original holo Venusaur is clearly a coveted card.

It may pale in comparison to the likes of Blastoise and Charizard, but its still a member of the original trio that players got to choose from.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Mewtwo #10

One of the best hits from the original set, and the main antagonist from the first Pokémon movie, Mewtwo is a man-made Pokémon that was created from the DNA of Mew.

Psychic cards were also fairly rare at the time, while Mewtwo is considered to be a legendary Pokémon-type. The holofoil looks like rays of power emanating from the genetic anomaly.

This time, the number of gem mint copies that appear on the PSA registry is 81. Its a tiny bit rarer and more expensive than any of the cards discussed above. That makes sense due to the sheer popularity.

Secret Super Battle No 1 Card

The 18 Most Valuable Pokémon Cards That Are Worth a Ton of ...

After the record-breaking sale of a Secret Super Battle No.1 card, PSA wrote a blog post on the details of the sale and the history behind the card. First-place winners of each regional division of the 1999 Pokemon Card Game Official Tournament received a Secret Super Battle No. 1 card. The location of the finals was a secret that only these cards could unlock. Each featured a holographic silhouette of Mewtwo on the front. Only sevenone for each regional tournamentexist, one of which sold at Heritage Auctions in July 2020 for $90,000.

Super Secret Battle cards have No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 versions like trophy cards. PokeBeach estimates that between nine to 18 sets of all three versions of the card exist. The No. 2 and No. 3 Super Secret Battle cards also attract high bidders, though maybe not as much as No. 1 cards. Most notably, a collector spent $60,000 on a No. 3 Trainer card at an eBay auction in August 2018. The card was lost in the mail and never found, despite the buyer’s offer of a $1,000 reward. Scott Pratte, also known as smpratte online, gave detailed info on the stolen card in a YouTube video on his channel.

The Most Valuable First Edition Pokmon Cards Of All

Its amazing to think that a set that is barely 20 years old will sell for millions if youre looking at a complete collection of pristine graded cards.

The original 1999 release is definitely the pinnacle for now, and they look unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.

There are a couple of decent options from 2000 onwards, but they just cant compete with the popularity of the original 151.

The Charizard was always the chase card, but its still insane to think that it could be bought for less than $10,000 back in 2016. What will the value be in 2026?

First Edition Holographic Magneton

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $1,750

Composed of three individual Magnemite held together by a strong magnetic force, Magneton is a dual-type electrical and steel Pokémon.

Often found near industrial areas and power plants, this mechanical creature charges itself by eating electrical currents.

Magneton is certainly one of the more unusual-looking of all Pokémon.

Pokemon Pop Series 5 Gold Star Umbreon

Sold in December, 2020 for $20,000

To help boost participation in Pokemon leagues and Pokemon Organized Play events, players were treated to exclusive POP series cards released on a regular basis over roughly a five-year span.

POP Series 1 kicked things off around September 2004 with POP Series 9 bringing things to a close around September 2009.

Released between March 2007 and September 2007, POP Series 5 was the last EX Series promotional set and featured Espeon and Umbreon, two of the eight Pokemon that evolve from Eevee.

The POP Series 5 checklist contained seventeen cards in total with Epseon and Umbreon being the most elusive of them all, noted by the gold star distinction next to their name on the card fronts.

As of this writing, just fifty examples of this Umbreon card have achieved PSA 10 status.

Rayquaza Gold Star Holo Ex Deoxys

WHAT’S WORTH THE MOST MONEY? Magic vs Yugioh vs Pokemon Card Opening!
  • Release Date: 2005
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $45,100

An early favorite of Ruby & Sapphire, Rayquaza has seen an uptick in popularity over the last decade. So it makes sense then that its cards would also start to climb up in value over time. In 2005, The Pokemon Company released the Ex Deoxys TCG expansion featuring the Flying / Dragon-type.

As a gimmick to get Pokemon card collectors interested in the set, the Japanese company introduced Gold Star Pokemon cards into the hobby. As mentioned earlier, the incredibly rare Pokemon cards featured a special symbol next to the name of the mon. Of course, the king of these marked collectibles is the Hoenn Legendary itself.

In December 2020, a perfectly graded Gold Star Rayquaza sold at auction for $45,100. Given the Legendarys continued popularity in the franchise, and just how little of the gold Pokemon cards were actually produced, we expect this item to increase in value as time goes on.

Crystal Charizard Holo Skyridge

  • Release Date: 2003
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $25,100

In 2003, interest in Pokemon cards had started to wane among core fans who had been collecting since it launched in 1999. As a result, production of the Skyridge set was considerably lower compared to past expansions.

This would also be the last release printed by Wizards of the Coasts and features the iconic e-reader designs meant to be a tie-in for the Game Boy Advance. Its low production has made the retro set one of the most expensive Pokemon cards products to hunt down from the era.

The crown jewel of the expansion is none other than Charizard. Its rare Crystal Holo design variant was extremely limited even at release. In November 2020, a perfectly graded version of the collectible sold for $25,100 at auction.

Pokemon Ex Team Rocket Returns Torchic Gold Star

Sold in December, 2020 for $25,400

Released in 2004, the EX Team Rocket Returns set marked the seventh expansion from the EX Series and featured 111 cards in its checklist.

Three of the cards, #107 , #108 , and #109 , are special holographic shiny rare cards noted by the gold star next to their name.

First introduced in the third generation of Pokemon games, Torchic is one of the three starter Pokemon that originate in the Hoenn region.

This orange and yellow chick may look cute and cuddly, but make no mistake, this fire-type Pokemon can shoot fireballs at its enemies that will instantly leave them burnt to a crisp.

Looking Up How Much My Pokemon Cards Are Worth:

How Much Are Your Old Pokémon Cards Worth?

If you get too many results that include cards NOT like yours, use the checkboxes to pick the ones just like yours. Choosing a few comparable items by using the checkboxes gives you a much more accurate estimate of what your Pokemon card is worth.

What to do next:

Once youve gone through and searched for the value of your Pokemon cards using the mavin.io price guide, you have several different options:

If the Pokemon cards are valuable: You can either hold onto the cards, perhaps get them graded if theyre really valuable, and hopefully see them appreciate in value over time. Alternatively, you sell it to a local card shop without getting ripped off since you know its worth. Lastly, you can sell it yourself on eBay to get a competitive price. Read our guide to selling on eBay.

If the Pokemon cards are worthless: A card doesnt have to be worth money to be considered valuable. Each card has sentimental value to someone: where they got it, the deck it was a part of, that time you used it to battle so-and-so a lot of people tend to hang onto them because of the memories. If you want to get rid of your Pokemon cards, they could be worth some memories to a relative or a stranger. Put them on Craigslist, take them to a card shop, donate them, or pass them along to your kids or a relative. Theres still a lot of fun to be had in those dusty Pokemon cards youve been hanging onto!

Lugia 1st Edition Neo Genesis

  • Release Date: 2000
  • Grading: BGS Pristine 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $144,300

Similar to Mewtwo, Lugia was an iconic Legendary for many children who grew up with the series in the 00s. So it should come as no surprise that its debut as a Pokemon card was a major hit.

While a 1st Edition Lugia broke records by selling for a mind-blowing $129,000 in 2020, a Beckett graded 10 version of the item sold for $144,300 at a PWCC auction in May 2021. BGS grades a lot harder than PSA, making this pristine Pokemon card one of only three in the entire world.

Reasons To Invest In Pokemon Cards

Here are four compelling reasons why a small investment in Pokemon cards this year may pay off down the road:

  • Supply is dwindling and demand is rising. Economics 101 tells us that when demand for an asset outstrips supply, prices rise. Nobodys making new 1st Edition Pokemon cards and demand is rising at the moment, so its reasonable to suggest prices will rise in the short term as well.
  • Theyre easy to buy and sell.Compared to real estate or rare cars, Pokemon cards are among the easiest forms of property to buy and sell. No surprise leaks or expensive brokers you always know exactly what youre buying or selling.
  • Theyre easy to store. Similarly, trading cards are perhaps the single easiest physical investment to store and maintain. Pokemon cards dont need cleaning, climate-controlled storage, or even insurance just a plastic sleeve and a safety deposit box.
  • The upside could be huge.In 2017, if youd invested $500 in an S& P 500 index fund youd have about $1,500 now. If youd put that money into a PSA 9 Charizard instead, youd have $5,500.

St Edition Holographic Shadowless Venusaur Card

Venusaur is just one of the few rare cards that slipped under the media’s radar. The sale of this blue-green plant dinosaur may not have made headlines, but it did make its seller some serious cash.

Core Collectibles sold a first-edition holographic shadowless Venusaur on eBay for $50,000. This particular card even received a PSA 10 ranking, also known as gem mint, which is the best PSA score a card can receive. First-edition starter evolutions tend to attract attention, especially holographic and shadowless ones. Holographic Venusaurs outshine non-holographic versions in terms of cost and rarity. Shadowless means that the card doesn’t have any shading around the edges just plain gold.

Japan printed the first Pokemon cards in 1996, but Wizards of the West Coast didn’t catch up with English counterparts until 1999. These first-edition cards are the most difficult to find because they’re part of the oldest batch of Pokemon cards.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Charizard #4

Are Your Common Pokemon Cards Worth Money?

Never in doubt, the original holo Charizard was always going to take the top spot when looking at the most valuable first edition cards of all time.

The prices always seem to amaze people when I show them, with the record broken again in March 2021. This time, a PSA 10 copy sold for $399,750.

Pikachu might be the mascot for the franchise, but Charizard is the card that everyone seems to want.

Its also one of the most abundant cards youll find when looking at PSA 10 grades, with a pop of 122.

If any Pokémon card is going to break the $1m mark, this will probably be it.

Tropical Mega Battle Tropical Wind Promo

  • Release Date: 1999
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $65,100

While not the most flashy Pokemon card on the list, the Tropical Mega Battle promo is an absolute holy grail for Psyduck fans. It doesnt get more adorable than seeing the Water-type mon playing the ukulele while chilling in a hammock with Jigglypuff.

Long before The Pokemon Company solidified the TCG competitive scene into the World Championships in 2004, one of Japans earlier iterations of the contest was known as the Tropical Mega Battle. In 1999, the tournament was held in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Only 50 players from various countries around the world were invited to compete against one another. Because various Trophy Pokemon cards were given out at the event, the Tropical Wind iteration is incredibly unique. The collectible resurfaced in a PWCC auction in October 2020 and sold for a mouth-watering $65,100.

Pokmon Tcg’s Older Sets Regularly Sell For Thousands Of Dollars

First Edition Base Set

Unsurprisingly, the First Edition Base Set is perhaps the most valuable Pokémon TCG set on the market. As the very first collection, it is the origin of the Pokémon Trading Card Game phenomenon that contributed to the franchise’s popularity. Aside from the First Edition Shadowless Charizard card, which is one of the most valuable cards in existence, this pack is also home to other extremely expensive cards. The Shadowless Blastoise and Venusaur cards present within this set sell for thousands of dollars at auction with mint or near-mint condition . The possibility of obtaining First Edition starters and Legendary Pokémon is enough of an incentive to purchase even a single sealed pack for hundreds of dollars. Booster packs will sell for even more and have sold at auctions for over $408,000, according to Price Charting.

POP Series 5

Skyridge Pokémon TCG Set

The Skyridge Pokémon Trading Card Game set was released in May of 2003, and was the 16th set ever released in the game. Trainer Booster Boxes regularly sell at auction for over $50,000. This collection set is home to particularly valuable cards such as the Crystal Charizard card, which is one of the most valuable Charizard Pokémon TCG cards ever released and has been sold for over $5,000 at various auction hours and websites . The Skyridge Pokémon TCG set also has Ho-Oh, Gengar, and Celebi cards which are valued at over $1,000 each at mint or near-mint condition.

First Edition Holographic Nidoking

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $1,500

Nidoking is a dual-type poison and ground Pokémon that is the final evolved form of Nidoran.

With its sharp teeth, pointy ears, plated underside, claws and venomous horn that protrudes from its forehead, Nidoking is obviously a very intimidating reptilian creature.

However, its powerful tail is the primary weapon of choice to smash its enemies or create the spacing Nidoking needs to execute one of its devastating charges.

High grade specimens of this card can sell for around $1,500 or more.
