Characters & Pokmon In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Review-In-Progress

As Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are designed to be faithful remakes of the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, its uncertain whether there will be any truly new Pokémon or characters in the games.

However, it may still be many players first experience in the Sinnoh region, and the established characters and Pokémon may have new artwork or features, so whether youre new to Sinnoh or just looking to see whats changed, heres a list of some of the more important characters and Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Connectivity To Other Devices

In addition to compatibility with each other, Diamond and Pearl offer compatibility with the third generation Pokémon games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen, Pokémon Ranger, and Pokémon Battle Revolution. After earning the National Pokédex in Diamond and Pearl, the player can “Migrate” Pokémon from the Game Boy Advance games to Diamond and Pearl by inserting a Game Boy Advance cartridge into the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot of the Nintendo DS while Diamond or Pearl is in the DS slot. After six Pokémon are uploaded from the cartridge, they are sent to the Pal Park, an area where the player can capture the transferred Pokémon. Pokémon uploads are restricted to six every twenty-four hours per Game Boy Advance cartridge, and the player must capture the uploaded Pokémon before performing another transfer. Pokémon transferred to Diamond and Pearl this way cannot be sent back to a Game Boy Advance cartridge. After completing a special mission in Pokémon Ranger, the player will be able to send a Manaphy egg or Riolu from Ranger to Diamond or Pearl. Finally, players can wirelessly upload Pokémon from Diamond and Pearl to the Wii games Pokémon Battle Revolution and My Pokémon Ranch.

Volkner And Flint: Diamond And Pearl’s Great Bromance

With Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl set to add features like Pokemon following their trainers , it would also make sense for ILCA’s remakes to follow the trend of giving Sinnoh’s characters more character. There are interesting dynamics with Gym Leaders already, from the father-son duo Roark and Byron being competing miners with lead fossil Pokemon to Maylene trekking through the snowy Route 217 barefoot just to see her friend Candice. However, Volkner and Flint had a lot more to do than most.

Flint is one of Sinnoh’s Elite Four, and he’s the only one whom players encounter outside of the Pokemon League. When the player character first enters Sunyshore City, Flint arrives and asks them to give Volkner an envigorating battle. As the eighth and final Gym Leader in Sinnoh, Volkner has apparently grown bored of weak challengers and spends most of his day renovating the Gym. Naturally, when players win the battle it offers Volkner new hope for the future, as he says the fight was a lot of fun.

Volkner and Flint’s similar Pokemon choices go beyond the aforementioned Magmortar and Electivire pairing. Neither use a full team of monsters considered to be their signature typing in Diamond and Pearl versions , and they’re also the only significant trainers to decorate their Poke Balls with seals as the player might.

Team Rocket/neo Team Rocket

In Pokémon Adventures, Team Rocket has their own mnemonic for the word “Rocket”: “Raid On the City, Knock out… Evil Tusks”. Three Gym Leaders – Lt. Surge, Sabrina and Koga – serve directly under the first incarnation of Team Rocket. A fourth Gym Leader, Blaine, used to work for Team Rocket as their scientist, but now joins the alliance of Kanto Gym Leaders not affiliated with Team Rocket .

The first incarnation of Team Rocket is led by Giovanni – the Gym Leader of Viridian City and deputised by three high-profile members of Team Rocket – Ken, Al and Harry, which proclaim themselves as an “Elite Trio”. They aim to exploit Pokémon and conquer the world.

Pryce, the Gym Leader of Mahogany Town, leads the first incarnation of Neo Team Rocket under a masked disguise called Mask of Ice. In the past, he captured Ho-Oh and used it to recruit six talented youngsters that would help him achieve his goal of travelling through time. Carl and Sham were based on the designs of the Neo Rocket Executives in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. Will and Karen, like Carl and Sham, were loyal to Pryce but after Pryce’s disappearance, formed a new Elite Four with ex-Team Rocket deputy Koga and former Elite Four member Bruno. Finally, Green and Silver, who were kidnapped by Pryce and thus never saw his face, escaped from Pryce when they had the chance, becoming recognized Pokédex holders that contributed to Pryce’s defeat in the voids of time.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Concept Art & Characters

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were iconic titles because they made the players feel small in a region that held so many secrets, where imposing and towering Pokemon like Giratina dwelled. Giratina, in particular, was extremely tall and much bigger than the player character when Trainers encountered it, making for a rather terrifying encounter with the Dragon/Ghost type. Giratina is still rather big in battle in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but it arguably lost its creepy facade because its sprite’s size is much smaller, both when encountered in the overworld, and when players make it follow them.

The same holds true for Rayquaza, a huge Legendary Pokemon with a coiling snake-like body that suddenly becomes smaller than the player character when it’s out of its Poke Ball for a walk. Speaking of which, Rayquaza’s walking animation is one of the worst in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and it follows the example set by that of Ekans and Milotic, likely due to all three having a similar body type. Rayquaza, or rather the tiny version of it that comes out of the Poke Ball, simply glides over the terrain and lifelessly follows players around without really moving.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.

    Commander Mars

Similarly, Warden Arezu is speculated to be the ancestor of Commander Mars from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, due to the identical haircut and character design.

However, not much similarities are currently known between the two. Arezu is a Warden of the Diamond Clan and is interested in finding a certain lady Pokemon, while Mars is one of the top Commanders of Team Galactic, who serves as an antagonist to you throughout Diamond and Pearl.

Focus On Giratina Takes The Player To The Distortion World

With a new twist on the story, Platinum‘s attention is focused on Team Galactic’s leader Cyrus even more so than before, with his obsession being accentuated to an extent that events take the player to the Distortion World. This is due to Giratina being the Legendary Pokémon of focus in Platinum, making the Distortion World a necessary addition to add an extra dimension to the newly intense story.

As the name suggests, the Distortion World is all over the place, with the laws of physics not applying and the ever-changing camera angles complementing this spooky aesthetic perfectly.

How To Change Appearance Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Character Customization

During character creation, after naming your Trainer, you will then get the option to select your gender and skin tone, based on several photos from a lineup. Note that this choice is permanent and that you cannot change it once you start the game. If you want to have a Trainer who looks different, you will need to restart the game. So, choose wisely here. Thankfully, the outfits and hairstyles arent locked and can be changed during the course of the game. However, this can only be done later in the game, and not at the very start.

To be able to change your outfits and hairstyles, you will need to have reached Veilstone City. You will gain access to this location after you defeat Gym Leader, Gardenia, in Eterna City. It will take around 10-12h of playtime to get to Veilstone City. Once you enter the city, look for Metronome Style Shop. It is located in the southern part of the city. Character customization is somewhat limited. You wont be able to select individual pieces of clothing, but instead an entire set. These all cover a certain theme, such as Spring, Winter, Eevee, and so on. When it comes to your hairstyle customization, this is also entirely dependant on your outfit. When you change outfits, your hairstyle will also change. It is tied to the outfit and cannot be altered independently from it.

Pokmon Bdsp Character Customization Could Be Used In Contests

While details on confirmed features are still limited, there is a possibility character customization may be utilized during the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remake’s Super Contest Shows. Players may be able to purchase outfits specifically for the Contests, with certain styles giving a boost to scores. It is also possible all “styles” in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will have a contest trait attached to them, incentivizing players to dress ahead of time for the Pokémon Contest category they plan to enter. For example, the “Leather Jacket” style could give a boost in the “cool” and “tough” categories, as where the “Eevee” style could give a boost in the “cute” category.

Currently, it hasn’t been confirmed if hairstyles are tied specifically to certain outfits, or if players will have the ability to visit Salons similar to Sword and Shield or X and Y to change up hair color, hair cuts, and cosmetic details. However, it is likely salons will be absent from Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as this would require additional buildings to be added to Sinnoh’s towns. From what has been seen in the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl trailers, the town layouts have remained largely the same from the original games, making the addition of numerous new shops unlikely. However, the ability to pick outfits for characters will be a great way for players to put their own personal spin on the main protagonist.

Will Pokmon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Have Character Creation

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl character customization may not be included, as past Pokémon remakes limited the feature available.

Character creation has become an important part of self-expression in the modern Pokémongames. First introduced in X and Y, the ability to change up the player character’s look has offered fans freedom to create trainers they can personally related to. With many skin tones, hairstyles, eye colors, and expressions available in Sword and Shield, character creation builds an immersive experience for players embarking on a journey through Galar. However, this feature may not be available in the upcoming Sinnoh remakes, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Character creation has disappointingly been unavailable in previous Pokémon remakes. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire lacked the feature, despite being released right after Pokémon X and Y. Character creation is present in Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, but it’s limited compared to X and Y and Sword and Shield. Characters can have different skin tones and hair colors, but their face style and expressions stay the same. Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! do offer different outfits to wear, though, which adds at least some personality.

More Pokmon Are Added To The Sinnoh Dex In Platinum

While the Sinnoh Pokédex in Diamond & Pearl only has 151 Pokémon, in Platinum, it has 59 additional entries, totalling up to 210 in the Sinnoh Pokédex alone, even before the National Dex.

Every new Gen IV Pokémon that is a non-legendary is included in Platinum, with no version-exclusive encounters like with Diamond & Pearl. Pokémon such as Rotom and Giratina are not only made available in Platinum, but they can also be obtained before taking on the Elite Four.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Should Explore One Of The Series’ Greatest Bromances

ALL MALE & FEMALE OUTFITS CLOTHES IN POKEMON BRILLIANT DIAMOND AND SHINING PEARL

Before fans of the Pokemon franchise get to see a version of the Sinnoh region from the distant past called Hisui in Pokemon Legends: Arceus next year, they have the opportunity to revisit the locales many grew to love 15-years ago via Gen 4 remakes Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Both were spotlighted during a Pokemon Presents livestream on August 18, with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl revealing gameplay details like an updated Grand Underground and returning features like Poke Ball seals to customize how monsters enter battle.

Last week’s showcase also focused on some of the Sinnoh region’s returning characters, such as Oreburgh City Gym Leader Roark and the new look of the arena in which he’s fought. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are billed as more “faithful” remakes, being created by Pokemon Home developer ILCA rather than Game Freak proper, but there are clearly plenty of changes made to the originals. As such, the developer should offer more character-building moments for Diamond and Pearl’s cast akin to previous remakes, and a great place to start would be with the friendship between Volkner and Flint.

Platinum Has A Different Order To Its Gym Battles

While both the Diamond & Pearl games and anime have Hearthome City’s Gym Battle with Fantina as the fifth Sinnoh Gym Battle, Platinum shuffles the order around so that when the player arrives at Hearthome the first time, they can battle Fantina, moving the Ghost-type dream up to third in the overall order.

Although this also shuffles levels around, this does not necessarily mean that her Gym Challenge is any easier. In fact, it is still a tricky encounter, even without fully-evolved Pokémon. This reshuffle means that Veilstone and Pastoria’s Gym Battles are pushed back to fourth and fifth respectively.

    Team Skull And Aether Foundation

Team Skull is the criminal group in the Alola region that like to try and steal Pokémon and items from other people with Guzma being their boss. The Aether Foundation, also located in Alola on a man-made island, is a team of scientists working on “helping” injured or fallen Pokémon, however, they were secretly working on creating 3 powerful legendary Pokémon called Type: Full to combat the strange Ultra Beasts. This didn’t go so well when they were awakened they had to be restrained and renamed to Type: Null. One of them Gladion managed to rescue and evolve.

Level And Roster Changes Make For Different Battles With The Same Trainers

In addition to the changes in Pokémon and leveling that come with the Gym Leader reshuffle, many trainers and Gym Leaders alike have had their teams updated to reflect the newly revamped Sinnoh Pokédex. Sunyshore Gym Leader, Volkner, actually has four Electric-types in Platinum, with Ambipom and Octillery being replaced.
