Bastiodon Is Another Defensive Superstar

Bastiodon is a dual Ground/Steel type Pokemon. At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 1,741, an Attack of 94, a Defense of 286, and a Stamina of 155. Bastiodon evolves from Shieldon with 50 Candy. The best Quick move for Bastiodon is Smack Down , and the best Charge moves are Stone Edge and Flamethrower .

It is obviously used as a wall in Great League battles, due to the ridiculously high defense. The only way Bastiodon goes down is from Fighting, Ground, Water, and Fire type moves. It may be slow, but Bastiodon is pretty decent offensively and has decent coverage with its attacks.

The Best Pokemon For Pokemon Go’s Great League

Pokemon Go‘s Battle League has introduced thousands of players to the game’s competitive play system. While PvP battles has been part of Pokemon Go for almost a year, it struggled to catch on due to the limitations of either needing to be friends with the person you wanted to battle against or needing to be in close proximity to your rival trainer. That all changed with the addition of the Battle League yesterday, a new ranked online system that matches Pokemon Go players for battles, with a chance to earn Stardust and other prizes.

The Battle League will cycle between the game’s three different leagues, each of which have different CP requirements. Right now, the Battle League is focused on the Great League, which means that your Pokemon can only have a CP of 1,500 or lower. This means that some interesting Pokemon could wind up as the powerhouses on your team. Here are some of the best Pokemon to use in Great League battles in Pokemon Go.

Ninetales Stunfusk And Altaria

Were going to be featuring the Alolan form of Ninetales, a quick fighter that can spam its abilities for this team. Its also a flexible choice, but were going to place it in the Lead role for this team. For the Switch role, we recommend Galarian Stunfisk, a powerful Pokémon that players always use in the Great League, and in the Closer role, you want to use Altaria.

  • Ninetales : Powder snow , weather ball , and dazzling gleam
  • Stunfisk : Mud shot , rock slide, and earthquake
  • Altaria: Dragon breath , sky attack, and moonblast

Jellicent Vigoroth And Regice

Strongest Great League Pokémon

The last team we want to recommend features Jellicent, the Ghost and Water-type Pokémon, in the Lead role. Its one of the best attackers in this competition, and its a bulky choice, making it hard to defeat. In the Switch role, you want to use the Normal-type Vigoroth, and then the legendary Ice-type Pokémon, Regice, as the Closer.

  • Jellicent: Hex , bubble beam, and shadow ball
  • Vigoroth: Counter , body slam, and bulldoze
  • Regice: Lock on , blizzard, and earthquake

Swampert Has Massive Attacking Power

Swampert is a Water/Ground type Pokemon. At Level 50, its Max CP clocks in at 3,362, its Attack at 208, Defense at 175, and Stamina at 225. Swampert evolves from Marshtomp with 100 Candy, which evolves from Mudkip with 25 Candy. Swampert’s best Quick move is Mud Shot , while its best Charge moves are Hydro Cannon , Earthquake , and Sludge Wave .

Though it struggles against Grass type Pokemon, Swampert is a serious threat in the Great League as its moves are phenomenal. Swampert offers great coverage and capitalizes on this due to killer attacking power. If the trainer has Shadow Swampert instead of regular Swampert, that works too!

Season 6 Great League Meta Analysis + Team Ideas

Hi PvP friends, welcome back to Season 6! Sorry I’m a little late. I was waiting a little for the meta to stabilize and also see how the new Gen 6 Pokemon impact the meta. Anyway, here’s a fresh report from the latest 1089 battles

Season 6 Great League meta

Most popular lead/2nd/3rd pokemon

Most popular leads and their backlines

Top individual counters to the most common Lead/2nd/3rd pokemon

Now comes the fun part. The following teams were suggested by GO Battle Log’s Anti-Meta Generator 3000. We fed it the latest battle data we collected. Then, we taught it to use PvPoke’s Battle Simulator to crunch the numbers for all possible matchups in Great League.

In Season 6, we have many new upgrades to AMG 3000. In addition to the usual safe teams, we also trained it to generate spice teams. Another new thing I’m going to try to do in this report is break the recommended teams into tiers, as suggested by u/RedWarpPrism2 in this post.

Safe teams are generated using the “Lead/Safe-switch/Cover” team-building recipe described in Zyonik’s video:

  • The Lead is selected to counter the most popular leads.

  • The 2nd is selected to do okay against the pokemon that the Lead is weak to… and… not lose too badly to the rest of the meta

  • The 3rd is selected to hard counter almost everything the Lead is weak to.

S-tier

Lead: Azu/Mantine/Swampert, Safe Switch: Defense-Deoxys, 3rd: Galvantula/Galarian-Stunfisk/Whimsicott

Other teams with Deoxys core:

A-tier

B-tier

How To Start Battling In Pokmon Go

Pokemon GO Battle Leagues are *the* new PvP format which will see players take part in the new PVP Trainer Battles. The Pokemon GO trainer battles will take place in different leagues. Players have to choose one of the three leagues before taking part but each league has a maximum Combat Power limit.

Great, Ultra and Master League explained:

  • Great League: 1,500 CP limit per Pokemon

  • Ultra League: 2,500 CP limit per Pokemon

  • Master League: No CP limit per Pokemon

The Official Pokemon GO Twitter handle wrote:

“While Pokémon with high CP might be a big advantage in Master League battles, Trainers will have to think more strategically when battling in the Great and Ultra Leagues, where there are specific CP limitations.”

This means that players are actually encouraged to analyse which creatures they would choose to bring into PvP battles!

The next team features the shadow version of Nidoqueen as the headlining Pokémon. Nidoqueen has risen the ranks since Season 8, and it looks like shes taking the ground running in Season 9. What Makes A Pokemon Good

CP is determined by 3 things.

    • Base Stats The Attack, Defense, and Stamina values of your Pokemons species .
    • IV Values The particular additional stat points, added onto individual pokemon. Visible in-game.
    • Level Represents how trained or powered up your pokemon is. Represented by the white curve directly below the CP value. Scales to your Trainer Level +2. Caps at Level 40 . Is squared before being multiplied into CP.

If you are starting from scratch, there are a couple of aspects of Pokemon that all come together to determine if its good in PvP, and in what Tier.

    • Fast Move The first listed attack, can and should be used constantly in combat by tapping the screen to charge your Charge Moves energy.
    • Some Fast Moves have incredibly high Damage on their own, but dont charge well , some charge incredibly fast but have low Damage , and some moves are busted and have both .
  • Charge Move Stronger attacks. You can unlock a second one for a high stardust/candy price. Can be shielded, twice per game.
  • Once the move charges, you need to hit the button to activate their damage minigame. The Type of the attack will determine what the minigame is, and a pattern of bubbles will appear on the screen for a few seconds. You can see all minigames here:
    • You can save up energy above the needed amount. Critically, energy stored up is saved if your Pokemon switches! Meaning the more you pop by swiping, the higher your damage will be.

    Machamp Steelix And Ho

If you love Fighting-type Pokémon, then were going to recommend Machamp in the Great League Remix. Machamp is an incredibly powerful Pokémon, but it is a glass cannon. Because of that, you want Steelix in the Switch role to swap in when things are not looking good and to keep Ho-Oh in reserve as the Closer Pokémon.

    • Machamp : Counter , cross chop, and rock slide
    • Steelix: Dragon tail , earthquake, and crunch
    • Ho-Oh: Incinerate , brave bird, and earthquake
