Dialga is a Dragon and Steel-type Pokemon one of the best typings in the entire franchise. It makes Dialga resistant to a whopping 10 types including Normal, Rock, Water, Grass, Electric, Poison, Flying, Psychic, Bug and Steel.

Thankfully, Dialga is weak to Fighting and Ground, two of the most powerful and common attacks in the game. There are plenty of Pokemon, especially Legendaries, that can bring powerful Ground-type attacks into battle against Dialga. Landorus and Groudon are the obvious choices as they are currently the only Ground-type Legendaries. Unfortunately, there is only one Mega Pokemon option currently in Pokemon GO. Mega Lopunnys high attack and Fighting-type attacks is a great option to go up against Dialga if trainers can accumulate enough Mega Energy. Bringing Mega Lopunny into a Dialga Raid will also increase the damage of other Pokemons Fighting-type attacks.

In the future, trainers will have more Mega Pokemon options like Mega Swampert, Mega Medicham, Mega Heracross, Mega Blaziken, Mega Camerupt, Mega Lucario, Mega Garchomp, Mega Gallade and Mega Mewtwo X. For now, Mega Lopunny is your only Mega Pokemon choice.

Objectively, Metal Claw is a better quick move for Dialga. Its not as fast as Dragon Breath, but 700 ms is still pretty fast. The metal claw also charges 10 energy, which Dialgi needs for fast iron heads.

That being said, however, not every Dialga has to run Metal Claw. If Dialga is used as a dragon attacker, Dragon Breath gets along well with Draco Meteor. This set can be used for teams that lack the fairy type, because it takes good care of opposing the Dragons.

What really hurts Dialgo is the lack of a Dragons Tail. It surpasses the Dragons breath in almost every respect. With Dragon Tail, however, Dialga is approaching a broken Pokemon GO.

For charging movements, the best Dialga can use is Iron Head. Its a real shame that Iron Head isnt a move that costs 33 energy, as it only has 70 base powers. Still, this is Dialgas best move considering how fast the legendary Pokemon can charge him.

The coaches will definitely want to pair him with Draco Meteor. First of all, Thunder hardly uses Dialgi. Yes, it is true that Thunder can destroy Water and Flying Pokemon, but Dialga is already sitting in front of those Pokemon anyway.

No Swampert or Pidgeot will want to take Draco Meteor anyway.

Of course, Draco Meteor has its problems in neutral matchups, however, it could hit as hard as some weaker super efficient moves. Even on the Dialga that connects the Metal Claw with the Iron Head, they will appreciate the damage caused by Draco Meteor.

Iron Head is Dialga’s cheapest move, and while it is mediocre, it provides solid anti-Fairy coverage, and is generally good enough.

The only real decision you have to make in your Dialga’s moveset is between Thunder and Draco Meteor, and you’ll find players who swear by each. Draco Meteor is a one-shot nuke, which can deal a huge amount of damage to everything in the format, but at the cost of dropping your attack to unusable levels after. Thunder gives you more power against Flying-types and Kyogre, but doesn’t hit quite so hard against the rest of the format. Experiment, and see which you like more!

Note: Dialga is an incredibly IV-dependent Pokémon, requiring minimum 15/14/12 IVs and being Best Buddied to compete effectively.

The three were simultaneously created by Arceus and each given a different dimension to control.
