Fairy Pokémon Pokemon With This Type

They Have No Flinch Moves

Pokémon X Hardcore Nuzlocke – Fairy Type Pokémon Only! (No items, No overleveling)

Fairy types are not known for their aggressive nature, so it makes sense that they, along with Poison, are the only type not to have any moves that can cause the target to flinch. Flinching is a powerful mechanic, as it allows fast Pokémon to potentially get a hit in and cause their opponent to miss a full turn. Fairy type Pokémon can still learn other types’ moves that cause flinch, and items like the King’s Rock and Razor Fang are still compatible with Fairy type moves.

Everything You Need To Know About Fairy Type Pokemon

Though theyve been around for nearly eight years now, fairy type Pokemon are still relatively new and obscure. If youre looking for more information on them, we can help.

For returning players and even long-time fans, its difficult to remember how the fairy typing interacts with everything else. This isnt helped by the relative scarcity of fairy types, as there are still only a modest number of viable options available after three generations. Here is everything there is to know about fairy typing in Pokemon.

They Were In The Tcg But Only Briefly

The type system in the Pokémon Trading Card Game works slightly differently than it does in the video games. For one, there are fewer types and some types from the main games get absorbed into others. The types are also a lot more fluid, with whole types changing which type they are categorized under. A Fairy type was added to the TCG to coincide with the release of Generation VI. The Fairy type included all the Fairy Pokémon from the video games, and replicated their effects by being weak to Metal , resisting Darkness, and being effective against Dragon. Starting with the Sword & Shield expansion, the Fairy type was essentially removed and folded into the Psychic type.

What Pokemon Is Good Against Fairy Pokemon

Pokemon that perform well against Fairy Pokemon are as follows:

Salazzle

Salazzle is a toxic lizard Fire/Poison type Pokemon launched in Generation VIII. This is the only Poison type Pokemon with a dual defense against Fairy type Pokemon.

Some effective moves from Salazzle are Fire Lash, Knock Off, and Encore.

Almost all moves from Salazzle have an accuracy of 100%, just like its predecessor, the unevolved Salandit.

Heatran

Heatran is a Fire/Steel Legendary Pokemon that first appeared in Generation IV. It is one of the rarest and mighty creatures in the Pokemon universe.

Some of the most effective by Heatran are Fire Spin, Leer, and Metal Claw.

In addition, Heatran is the only Pokemon with the highest number of double resistances against Steel, Bug, Grass, Ice, and Fairy type Pokemon.

Nidoking

Nidoking is a Poison/Ground Pokemon first appeared in Generation I. It transforms from Nidorino when subjected to Moon Stone.

Some lethal moves from Nidoking include Megahorn, Fury Attack, and Toxic Spikes. Nidoking and its female counterpart Nidoqueen are known as Drill Pokemon.

These are the only Pokemon with Poison/Ground type, one of the most lethal combinations.

Nidoqueen

Nidoqueen is a Poison/Ground Pokemon first appeared in Generation I.

It transforms from Nidorino when subjected to Moon Stone. It is the final shape of Nidoran. Some lethal moves from Nidoqueen are Superpower, Fury Swipes, and Toxic Spikes.

Ralts Kirlia And Gardevoir

One of the more famous and beloved Fairy-type conversions is that of the Ralts family. Prior to Generation VI, Ralts, Kirlia, and Gardevoir were all just plain Psychic-types. With the release of Fairy, though, they all became Psychic/Fairy-types. Gardevoir’s Mega Evolution makes great use of this with its Pixilate ability.

Gallade, Kirlia’s other evolution, remained unchanged as a Psychic/Fighting-type. The addition of Fairy-type for Gardevoir pulls it even on the interesting type combo with Gallade, which is great.

What Pokemon Have A Good Defense Against Attacks From Fairy Pokemon

EVERY Fairy Type Pokemon EXPLAINED! | Gnoggin

Following Pokemon have a good defense against attacks from Fairy type Pokemon:

Poison Type

By Generation VIII, there are 71 Poison type Pokemon making up 7.88% of all Pokemon. It is the 8th rarest type of Pokemon after Fire and before Ground.

When a Poison type takes its shot, it never misses. Therefore, poison type Pokemon cannot be toxicated except by a Pokemon with Corrosion ability such as Salandit and Salazzle.

Poison type releases a poison or bad poison as a damaging move. Poison type forms a great pair with Ground type making it one of the most potent duos.

Steel Type

In generation VIII, there are 64 Steel type Pokemon making up 7.1% of all Pokemon. Steel type is the 6th rarest type of Pokemon.

If you are against a Fairy type in a fight, the first Pokemon type to go for will be Steel type pokemon with high damage powers.

As I mentioned earlier, Steel type Pokemon are also immune to poison except for a Pokemon with corrosion.

Steel type holds out against Normal and Psychic type Pokemon, making Steel the most defensive type of Pokemon. Steel type is also immune to sandstorm.

Bonus: Altaria And Audino

While Audino and Altaria were not reclassified to be Fairy-types, they did both receive Mega Evolutions that were Fairy-type.

Audino is a Normal/Fairy-type Pokémon when Mega Evolved while just Normal-type otherwise. Altaria is a Dragon/Flying-type before Mega Evolution and then becomes the only Dragon/Fairy-type in the Pokémon world.

Azurill Marill And Azumarill

Why did so many Baby Pokémon receive a Fairy-type conversion? Azurill is yet another one of these. This Baby Pokémon was changed from a pure Normal-type to a Normal/Fairy-type upon the release of Generation VI.

More interesting, though, is Azurill’s evolutionary relatives. Marill and Azumarill, introduced one generation earlier than their Baby form, were both Water-types before Fairy was added. Now, both are Water/Fairy-types, giving them an even better edge in battle in many contexts.

Protean And Libero Don’t Work

The Fairy typing has an interesting interaction with the Libero and Protean abilities, both of which allow the Pokémon in question to change its type to match the moves it uses. The only Pokémon capable of having these abilities are the Greninja line and Kecleon for Protean and the Cinderace line for Libero. None of these Pokémon can learn any Fairy type moves, and the move most famous for changing type, Hidden Power, is incapable of becoming Fairy type because it was introduced before the Fairy type existed. This means that it is functionally impossible for a Protean or Libero Pokémon to become the Fairy type.

They Have No Gender Differences

Mi

A surprising number of Pokémon have designs that vary slightly with gender. Some are obvious, like Nidoran’s totally different colors and evolution lines or Pyroar’s maned and non-maned forms. Others are extremely subtle, like the fact that male and female Gyarados have different color whiskers or that female Ambipom have slightly longer head hair.

RELATED: 10 Pokémon Evolutions That Make No SenseFairy is the only Pokémon type with no gender differences in any of its members, a fact that can be explained by a change in design philosophy. The sort of extremely subtle differences between Pokémon genders all but stopped after Generation IV, and subsequent gender variations have been extremely obvious rather than subtle. Since Fairy wasn’t introduced until Generation VI, it missed the boat on this old tradition.

It Hasn’t Been The Same For Them Since Generation Vi

Several generations have passed since the Fairy type was introduced, but none of them quite supported it like Generation VI did. Gen VI introduced a grand total of 37 Fairy Pokémon, while Generation VII had only 13 and Generation VIII a mere 10.

RELATED: Pokémon: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Electric Types

A similar pattern is true of Fairy type moves, as Generation VI introduced 14 new moves, while Generations VII and VIII had only seven each. It is unlikely that any Generation will surpass Gen VI as having the most new Fairy types, though that generation had very few Pokémon overall, so it’s not completely impossible.

What Are Fairy Types Weaknesses In Pokemon

Fairy type Pokemon have just two weaknesses: steel and poison types. Alongside that, are three types that resist fairy attacks, with those being poison, steel, and fire. This means that fairy type Pokemon are particularly weak against steel and poison Pokemon, since those Pokemon can both attack and defend exceptionally well versus fairy types.

Compared with ice and ground Pokemon, fairy has a strong majority of neutral interactions with other types. Its interactions with some of the lesser-used types make it an important addition to the game.

Best Counters For Fairy

Some of the best counters to use against Fairy-type Pokemon are powerful Steel-types like Metagross, Melmetal, and Dialga. Paired with Steel-type moves, theyll make light work of Fairy-types.

As well as being super-effective against Fairy-types, Steel-type Pokemon dont have any major weaknesses or vulnerabilities that Fairy-types can easily exploit, which makes them very reliable counters.

There are also loads of Poison-type Pokemon that can be used to take down Fairy-types like Roserade, Gengar, and Salazzle. Again, theyll need a set of Poison-type moves to be effective.

If youre going to use Poison-types, though, its important to consider that many Fairy-type Pokemon can learn Psychic-type attacks, which are super-effective against Poison-types, so be careful.

Cleffa Clefairy And Clefable

It’s probably no shocker that a pink sprite-like Pokémon with “-fairy” in its name and a title of “the Fairy Pokémon” was converted to the Fairy-type. In Generation V and earlier, Clefairy, its evolution Clefable, and its Generation II pre-evolution Cleffa were all considered the Normal-type.

Upon release, these three were converted entirely to Fairy-types, dropping the Normal-type altogether. While most Pokémon that are said to have a connection to space are Psychic- or Rock-type, Clefairy, which is said to come from the moon, is bucking this trend altogether.

What Is A Fairy

Why fairy type is a good thing

Fairy-type Pokemon were introduced in Gen 6 with X & Y, making them the newest type in the franchise. Its usually quite easy to recognize a Fairy, as they often feature cute appearances and pink color schemes.

This isnt always the case, though, as there are some Pokemon like Galarian Weezing and Grimmsnarl that have a scarier appearance thats more likely inspired by evil fairies from traditional fables and folklore.

There also arent that many pure Fairy-type Pokemon, which is partly because a lot of Pokemon released prior to Gen 6 were revisited and given Fairy as a secondary typing, like the Water/Fairy-type Azumarill.

This means youll often need to take a second typing into account when fighting a lot of Fairy-type Pokemon, which can affect their weaknesses and the best counters youll need to take them down.

What Are Fairy Type Pokemon Strong Against

Fairy type moves in the Pokemon series are strong against dragon, fighting, and dark Pokemon.

The fairy typing was specifically added to the franchise in order to serve as a check to the numerous dragon-type pseudo legendaries that have proven to be overpowered, such as Dragonite, Salamence, and Hydreigon. Not only are fairy moves strong against dragon Pokemon, but fairy Pokemon are immune to dragon-type moves which is particularly helpful as Outrage and Draco Meteor are among some of the most devastating moves that players can come across.

Alongside being immune to dragon attacks, fairy Pokemon are resistant to fighting, bug, and dark moves. This allows fairy Pokemon to operate in a unique space that lets it have unique interactions with most of the non-elemental types. This is incredibly valuable in the main Pokemon games, as fairy types are resistant to some of the most common moves including Close Combat and U-Turn.

Igglybuff Jigglypuff And Wigglytuff

Returning to the Generation II Baby Pokémon takes this list to Igglybuff. This Baby Pokémon, plus its evolutionary relatives Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff, were all converted to Fairy-type in Generation VI.

Unlike the others already mentioned on this list, however, these three retained their Normal-typing as well. Now, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, and Wigglytuff are Normal/Fairy-types. Why it was decided that Jigglypuff would remain a Normal-type but Clefairy, Snubbull, and others would not, is unclear.
