Role In The Subspace Emissary

After fleeing from in , bumps into Pokémon Trainer, who advises him to stand back, and proceeds to take on a group of with his alongside Lucas. After this battle, he goes on his way, but Lucas follows him. As the story progresses, they develop a strong friendship.

Pokémon Trainer is searching for two Pokémon, and , that are identified when he shows Lucas their cards. He and Lucas set out to find them. Outside of an old temple, they survive a brief encounter with Wario. After venturing deep into the ruins, finding Ivysaur, and battling and capturing Charizard, Pokémon Trainer and Lucas fight a giant monster named .

When Galleom is defeated, it grabs both Lucas and Pokémon Trainer, causing the latter to faint, and jumps high into the air, revealing an armed in its head. Lucas uses to detach its arm, and he and Pokémon Trainer free-fall towards the ground. Just before they would hit the ground, flies in and grabs them both, and takes them to safety away from the Subspace explosion, with and .

Later, Pokémon Trainer and Marth watch as the fall from the mountain. As the swarm over the cliffs, he joins Marth, Ike and Lucas in repelling the Primids. As he retreats, tossing a Poké Ball from hand to hand, , , , and arrive at the Canyon entrance.

How To Select Your Starting Pokmon

In Tourney Mode or The Subspace Emissary:Highlight the Pokémon Trainer on the character-selection screen and tap in any direction in any direction.

In all other game modes:Select the Pokémon Trainer, and his and all the Pokémon’s portraits appear at the bottom of the screen. The Trainer’s portrait will be glowing. Click on one of the Pokémon’s portrait with , and it will start glowing instead of the Trainer’s. Also, the Trainer’s name will be replaced with the chosen Pokémon’s.

If the Trainer himself is selected, the Pokémon you start with will be randomly decided.

Best Out Of Shield Options

Dash Attack

Dash attack has good range and should be used to catch opponents trying to land. It can also cross through shields, so it is a good approach tool as well, and it can also combo.

Forward Tilt

Forward tilt comes out fast and has little ending lag. It has some of the best range out of any of Squirtle’s attacks, making it a good tool for pressuring grounded opponents, since it is very safe on shield.

Up Tilt

While up tilt comes out quicky, it has limited range. It is great for combos and can be followed up with an aerial or another tilt. It can also combo into up special for a KO on opponents with high percents.

Down Tilt

Down tilt will knock your opponent slightly into the air, but it does not lead into any follow up attacks. It should primarily be used to hit opponents off of the stage. Generally, forward tilt is a much better poking tool. At high percents, the move is capable of KOing.

Pokémon Trainer has long been regarded as one of the strongest characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but what does their best player think about them now?

TSM|Tweek came so close to winning EVO 2019 with Charizard, Ivysaur and Squirtle, and now the top competitor has released his new match up chart for how they fare in 2021.

Unsurprisingly, the longtime pro feels like Pokémon Trainer wins against a large majority of the massive cast while also being at advantage against some of the top tiers like Zero Suit Samus.

Where problems tend to arise for the triple fighter, however, is in cases of speed and ability to interrupt what the trainer is trying to do.

That applies to fast fighters like Sonic, Fox and Joker plus zoners like Mega Man who can all play either hit and run or more campy defensive styles to make trainer players work extra hard to try and get in.

Interestingly, Tweek has Pac-Man as one of their worst match ups in large part because of his hydrant special. He says that trainer’s slow speed in the air and ground makes their ability to get in very predictable and punishable.

As for the newest character in Smash, Sephiroth doesn’t end up ranked, but Tweek does talk about his early impressions of the match up where he feels that the Final Fantasy villain could take it thanks to Shadow Flare and his range though he might be screwed trying to get around Ivysaur when knocked off stage.

Smash Ultimate has no shortage of unique heroes. There are robots, swordsmen, princesses, and cartoon characters from franchises that havent even been on a Nintendo console in years. Most of them have their own unique move sets. But only one of them can claim to be three totally different characters in one. Thats where the Pokemon Trainer, an admittedly generic sounding fighter, comes in.

Smash Ultimate sports 74 different playable characters at launch including every single previous character from the super-franchise and a bunch of fresh faces. Thats not even including the glut of DLC fighters, assist trophies, and more. Theres so much that no one person could possibly keep track of everything. Thats why weve compiled a guide to every single character.

The Pokemon Trainer doesnt actually fight for themselves . They send in one of three pocket monsters at a time: Squirtle, Ivysaur, or Charizard. Sure, they dont match up in your typical lineage of Pokemon evolution. But these unique creatures offer some equally different abilities. You can even switch between them on the fly for some extended recovery options.

How To Unlock Pokemon Trainer In Classic Mode

You only need to play Classic Mode twice to unlock Pokemon Trainer. The Super Smash Bros Ultimate character unlock order shows hes the third character in Donkey Kongs unlock chain.

Donkey Kong > Bowser > Pokemon Trainer > Rosalina > King Dedede > Sheik > Greninja > Diddy Kong > Duck Hunt > Sonic

Complete Classic Mode as Donkey Kong to unlock Bowser. Then use either Bowser or Donkey Kong again to unlock Pokemon Trainer. With each game of Classic Mode taking around 10 minutes, this should only take 20 minutes or less.

Stats And General Info

3 unique characters which can be switched out with Down B

Pokemon Trainer has returned from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, granting control of three unique Pokemon, resulting in an overall balanced character. Changing Pokemon with Down B now grants temporary invinsibility. This is also extremely fast, and very useful for escaping combos from an opponent, so Pokemon Trainer mains should keep in mind that Down B is not only for changing characters, but that it has added utility.

As for the playable Pokemon themselves, each Pokemon has specific strengths and weaknesses, and thus, each one has a primarily role they play in battle. Squirtle is fast, and excellent at comboing opponents to rack up damage, primarily at low percents. Ivysaur is a zoner, who is good at spacing and taking stocks. Charizard, the heavyweight of the bunch, is slow, but good for finishing out stocks, and can also be used to extend PT’s recovery.

Changes From Super Smash Bros Brawl

The list below covers the general changes of the Pokémon Trainer and their party as a whole. For information about each individual Pokémon’s moveset changes, see Squirtle , Ivysaur , and Charizard .

Due to being a low mid-tier in Brawl, Pokémon Trainer has been significantly buffed in the transition from Brawl. Notably, both the Stamina mechanic and type effectiveness have been completely removed, and Pokémon Change has been granted high utility due to the addition of aerial switching and significantly faster Pokémon switches. As such, switches between the three Pokémon have now become a unique advantage for the Pokémon Trainer alone rather than being a major mandatory commitment, and the Pokémon are now free to fight indefinitely without being limited by Stamina during battle. In addition, Ivysaur, who was previously the worst Pokémon in the party, has been greatly buffed, and the general changes to Ultimate‘s mechanics greatly benefit Ivysaur and Squirtle. Each of the Trainer’s Pokémon is usable as its own character, but as in Brawl, usage of all three for different situations is optimal.

Role In World Of Light

The male Pokémon Trainer was among the fighters summoned to fight the army of Master Hands.

During the opening cutscene, the Pokémon Trainer was present on the cliffside when Galeem unleashed its beams of light. Working together with Bowser and his Fire Breath, he sent out Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard in an attempt to fight back against the beams with Triple Finish, to no avail. All four were vaporized and placed under Galeem’s imprisonment along with the rest of the fighters .

The male Pokémon Trainer can be found at the southeast near the maze that resembles Pac-Maze. Defeating him also allows access to all of his Pokémon as well as his female counterpart. Uniquely, the Trainer is controlled on the overworld during World of Light, rather than his Pokémon.

Not only did it bring back every roster member from previous entries in the long running series, but it also included a host of new combatants that fans were overjoyed at seeing. Post-launch, Masahiro Sakurai and the rest of the developers behind the latest iteration of Smash Bros. have added even more familiar faces to the game’s massive roster.

Even with an ever growing collection of characters to play as in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there are still those who have been letdown by their preferred favorites being relegated to an Assist Trophy or not being included at all. There’s a certain Water-based Pokémon that was originally set to join the Smash roster at one point. But sadly, it didn’t get the chance to hand out its own form of punishment on other Nintendo characters.

Here’s why Blastoise didn’t make the final cut as a Smash roster member.

Tier Placement And History

Due to the Pokémon Trainer’s stamina and forced switching mechanic, that required players to learn three vastly different characters to play the Trainer , the Trainer has always been an extremely unpopular character in tournaments. Besides the absurd learning curve, the stamina and forced switching mechanics directly brought the Trainer’s potential down, and made matchups much harder than they would be otherwise. A significant example is King Dedede, a character Squirtle would go even with or win the matchup against as a solo character, but because of the forced switching to Charizard and Ivysaur, who are hard countered by Dedede, the Dedede matchup turns into a hard counter against the Pokémon Trainer. The Pokémon Trainer was brought farther down by one of his required Pokémon, Ivysaur, being widely considered as a strong candidate for worst character in the game if it was a solo character.

Switching Pokmon / Team Management

A major change to the Pokémon Trainer is about how the switching and overall mechanics work. They exist for the character to have a much easier combating characters 2 of all of the Pokémon fall against and overall making Pokémon Trainer a less difficult character to play.

One is the fact you do not need to worry about stamina. You can keep one Pokémon in for as long as needed. The other is the fact, if you do feel like you need to switch, it takes a much shorter time to complete. You can also change the order of switching before the match

There is also another, completely different style with the team. You now have the option to only take 2 Pokémon into the battle and use the last one as an Assist with unlimited uses but the slightly longer break times than standard assists , not to mention the third Pokémon is only usable as an assist and not as a fighter.

• Squirtle: A: Aqua Jet / B: Waterfall / C: Water Gun
• Ivysaur: A: Razor Leaf / B: Sludge Bomb / C: Vine Whip
• Charizard: A: Forward Flare Blitz / B: Wing Attack / C: Up Forward Flare Blitz

Switching Pokémon is done with a Down, Down + Special + Attack command and now uses up 1 bar of Clash Attack Meter, which means you can’t just spam your switches.
