Who Is Mega Altaria In Pokmon Go

The Humming Pokémon, Altaria is the final evolution of Gen III’s Swablu. Normally a Dragon and Flying type, when Mega Evolved, Mega Altaria is a Dragon and Fairy type. While it’s the first Fairy type Mega Pokémon in Pokémon Go, with Gardevoir, Mawile, Audino, and Diancie all having Mega Evolutions, it won’t be alone for long. However, while Mega Altaria is currently our only Mega Fairy type, it’s also unique in that it’s a Dragon type that resists Dragon type attacks.

What may hold Mega Altaria back in either capacity is its lacking movepool. As we’ve noted with other Fairy types, there are so few Fairy type moves in Pokémon Go and Charm is the only fast move – a move which Altaria cannot learn in the core games. The only Dragon type moves Altaria can learn are Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse, leaving Dragon Breath and Dazzling Gleam as its most powerful moveset in a vaccum. With some additional moves, Mega Altaria could be far more useful, but even with weaker moves, the Mega boost it gives will make it worth having.

In the midst of the Gible Community Day hype, we have all probably put the Swablu Community Day in the backseat. Not that anyone is getting blamed here as Gible is quite possibly the biggest Community Day star yet! We have waited for eons to get a jaw-dropping event and Gible it is!

Disappointing? Understandable.

But is it really that bad? Yes, Earthquake or Dragon Claw would have promoted Altaria to the stratosphere and make its fluffiness all the more terrifying, but what is Altaria capable of with Moonblast?

Better yet, what is Mega Altaria going to do with its STABFairy type charged move?

While I will certainly cover Garchomp and Mega Garchomps exclusive Community Day move once the official announcement is made, it is only fair that I give some love to this dragon bird.

Just ensure that youre saving your Candies and only evolving your best Swablu.

Remember, while 15/15/15 IVs may seem optimum, Pokemon GO Hub suggests that Altarias best IVs for the Great League are 0/14/15 at level 29.

Overall, Altaria tops out at 2266CP when it has max IVs and it has been powered up with XL Candies. At level 40, the highest Altaria will reach is 2004 CP, however, youre definitely going to want to keep it below that.

Altaria and the Great League have been synonymous with each other since the beginning of PvP. With Dragon Breath being a blessing to virtually anything that gets it and Sky Attack being Altarias MO courtesy of it being a heavy hitter at a relatively low energy cost.

Considering a 1 shield scenario, with Dragon Breath paired with Sky Attack and Dazzling Gleam, Altaria gets a 77% win rate against the meta:

Altaria has a 77.8% win rate.

So statistically, Moonblast hardly matters. But situationally, Moonblast with its viability as the best second charged move, the chance to debuff and be more energy-efficient in dealing with the likes of Umbreon and Obstagoon. For Pokémon like Shiftry and Fighting types, Sky Attack is and always will be the way to go.

Pokmon Go Great League Team Recommendations

The Great League is the focus of every Go Battle League season for two weeks in Pokémon Go, which measn you have to come up with the most effective team possible at under 1500 CP.

The Great League is one of the most accessible leagues in in Pokémon Go because of this low CP requirement. This rules out almost all of the commonly known best Pokémon, which only come in their own because of later evolutions or higher CPs, giving otherwise overlooked creatures some time to shine.

Community Day events have a heightened Shiny rate for the featured Pokémon, so if youre playing, you should be able to find several Shiny Swablu. If you dont have time to play all day, you can find a Shiny Swablu by popping an Incense, and tapping each Swablu that pops up. Mega Altaria is a difficult Pokemon to face because of its high stats and great typing. Therefore, we recommend that you take Mega Altaria on with Poison and Steel-type Pokemon.

How To Teach Altaria Moonblast In Pokmon Go

To get the exclusive Community Day move, Moonblast, youll need to evolve your Swablu on May 15 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m in your local time.

If you miss the Community Day period, youll likely be able to evolve your Swablu during the December Community Weekend event to get Moonblast, based on past years. You can also use an Elite TM to teach legacy Community Day-only moves.

Is Mega Altaria Worth Getting

Mega Altaria certainly isnt as strong as other Dragon-types in Go, but it does have the unique feature of being one of the only Dragons thats also resistant to Dragon-type moves, thanks to its dual Dragon/Fairy typing.

This, combined with decent bulk and a high amount of resistances, means that Mega Altaria has the potential to outlast many opponents on the battlefield, and it can actually be a very solid support Pokemon.

Because Mega-Evolved Pokemon offer boosts to other Pokemon who use attacks of the same typing, having Mega Altaria on your team in Raids means that your Dragon and Fairy-type Pokemon will be able to deal huge mega-boosted damage.

Dragon Breath + Sky Attack And Moonblast*

Dragon Breath is one of the strongest Fast Moves in the game, with incredible damage output. This allows Altaria to deal solid damage through shields, while also threatening opponents with charged moves. Peck is underwhelming in both damage output and energy gains.

Sky Attack is both cheap and hard-hitting, which makes it Altarias most-used attack. Moonblast is a move limited to Community Day events and Elite TMs, but deals slightly more damage than Dragon Pulse even when considering STAB, provides the same coverage against Dragon-types, in addition to coverage against Dark-types. Its moderately high energy cost results in less frequent use, and Altaria is largely not dependent on it to see success. Dazzling Gleam is a downgrade due to its higher energy cost and less efficient Damage Per Energy .

Pve Defensive Moves Explanation

• Peck is generally preferred on defense due to its higher base power than Dragon Breath.
• Sky Attack has the shortest damage window, and deals moderate damage as a 2-bar move.
• Dazzling Gleam lacks STAB but is less likely to be resisted by attackers.
• Dragon Pulse is easily dodged, and also most likely to be resisted.
• Moonblast as a 1-bar move might not have a chance to be used before Altaria faints.

Our Pokmon Go Great League Recommendations From Altaria To Trevenant

There is no one ‘best’ team you can choose – since, as mentioned previously, you don’t know what you are up against – and not everyone has access to every type of Pokémon.

Instead, here is a general list of recommended Great League Pokémon to build a team from, with a wide range of sources that should suit all players, whether you’ve been collecting creatures since day one or just started playing.

Remember you are only allowed one of each in the Go Battle League, and ideally you’d want to build a team with different type strengths and defense. For example, if you build a team with Altaria, Skarmory and Azumarill, you’ll be especially open to Electric types.

Its also worth noting that if you want to really compete, each of your Pokémon need two Charged moves. If you want to skimp on Stardust and only run the one move, do so at your own peril you have been warned.

For us, you should never max out a base Pokémons CP because you are still not sure which skills it will develop once it evolves. If you do this, you may end up wasting a lot of Candies for a Pokémon that you wont be using due to its terrible abilities.

We recommend that you evolve the base Pokémon first and then decide if you want to max out its stats.

Gengar, unfortunately, doesnt have a Poison-type Fast Attack to utilize but having access to Sludge Bomb and the ability to power up Poison moves of other Pokemon on your team is invaluable. There arent a lot of Poison options to consider teaming up with these two, but Drapion and Dragalge are solid choices.

Mega Abomasnow is the Ice-type option to use as it is powerful and boosts the Ice moves of your team. To team up with Abomasnow, trainers should consider Galarian Darmanitan and Mamoswine.

Trainers looking to use Steel types should consider Metagross, Dialga and Excadrill while Fairy options are limited but Togekiss and Gardevoir are great picks. Mega Steelix is another Mega option to consider as it will boost up the Steel moves of your team, but its low power output puts it behind other Megas.
