Pokemon Japanese Base Set Holo No Rarity Symbol Holo Charizard

Sold in November, 2020 for $57,877

The 1996 Japanese “No Rarity” Charizard card is a true piece of hobby history as it marked one of the first appearances of the iconic character.

Most Japanese base set cards will contain a “rarity symbol” in the lower-right corner of the card that varies based on the card type.

Holographic cards in the set feature a star symbol, so if you find one without the rarity symbol, then you know you’re looking at the more rare, first-print “no rarity” Charizards.

The “no rarity” Charizards are much more difficult to find as PSA has graded 3,634 regular base set Charizards compared with only 273 “no rarity” Charizards.

Furthermore, roughly 14% of the regular base Charizards have achieved a PSA 10 grade compared to less than 2% of the “no rarity” Charizards.

Pokemon First Edition Blastoise

Sold in November, 2020 for $45,100

One of the coolest-looking of all Pokémon with its twin water cannons that retract from the shell on its back, Blastoise received a massive boost in popularity after serving as the cover mascot of the Pokémon Blue video game.

1st Edition Blastoise cards feature a first edition stamp to the lower left of the holographic image and no shadowing effect behind its right and bottom borders.

Out of the 2,070 first edition Blatoise cards submitted to PSA as of this writing, 100 of them have been given the PSA 10 distinction or roughly 4.8% of them.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Machamp #8

Auction Prices Realized Non Sport Cards 1999 POKEMON GAME Grass Energy ...

Heading back to before the turn of the millennium, the 1999 set contains yet another expensive card featuring one of the original 151 Pokémon.

The fighting-type Machamp is the third and final evolution, starting with Machop and Machoke.

As for Machamp, hes flexing two of his four arms in the image, surrounded by a holo swirl of energy.

There are just a handful of pristine shadowless first edition versions, which makes sense as it wasnt particularly sought after in the first place.

Psa 10 Torchic Gold Star Holo Ex Team Rocket Returns: $50000

In the early-to-mid 2000s, popularity in Pokemon was waning. “Pokemania” was on the way out, and that meant a lot of the Pokemon TCG expansions at the time suffered from lower sales and smaller print runs. With Pokemon back on top again now, cards from that era often see higher values than cards older than them. A great example of this is the Gold Star Torchic from EX Team Rocket Returns.

Gold Star Pokemon showcase Pokemon in their shiny forms and have the Pokemon breaking out of the frame as an early example of the many alternate styles the TCG would later experiment with. Why Torchic specifically is worth so much is anyone’s guess, but with only 17 verified PSA 10 grade copies out there, the PSA values them at $50,000 each. Actual auction prices are a bit lower though, as in 2020 PWCC Auctions sold a copy for $25,400.

Japanese Tropical Mega Battle Promo Tropical Wind: $147633

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, an annual Pokemon Trading Card Game tournament was held in Honolulu, Hawaii. At the 1999 event, just 12 of these Tropical Mega Battle cards were produced to be distributed to some of the lucky 50 players who attended the event , meaning the remaining number of mint copies is especially low all these years later.

Showing a Psyduck having a nap in a hammock on a tropical island, this legendary Trainer Card sells for a whole lot of cash thanks to its rarity. Though it has sold for up to $65,100 at auction, PSA estimates the card is worth vary more than that, at a whopping $147,633.

Pokemon Card Sold By Country

With no surprise, 62.19% of Pokemon cards were sold from the United States and Japan coming in second with 19.62%. Canada came in third with 7.71% of total cards sold.

Country
$44,579.17 $68.27

For the bigger countries like Japan, the United States, Canada and Australiait kind of got interesting.

The United States sold the most at $44,579.17 but only had an average of $66.46. This is less than the total average sold.

Japan and Australia had higher averages at $93.73 and $89.17 respectively.

Canadas average was on the lower side at $55.53. Canadians seem to be selling their cards but arent selling valuable pokemon cards.

It was also interesting to see that Canada and Australia had around the same number of items sold, but Australia had a 60% higher average than Canada.

This could mean that Australians have more valuable Pokémon cards than Canadians.

Same with Japan and the United States.

Japan had a 27% higher average cost than the United States but only had 19.62% of items sold compared to the United States which had 62% of the items sold.

We also looked at One37pm and found that the most valuable collector Pokemon cards are printed in Japanese .

How Much Are Rainbow Rare Cards Worth

Unboxing 450 Pokemon Energy Cards!!!!

This depends on the card that you have pulled.

If you have played the Pokemon trading card game, then you will know that some cards have more value than others. This is dependent on two factors:

  • The rarity of the card
  • The playability of the card

Now, we all know that rainbow rare cards are rare. This will instantly make them more expensive than their standard rare counterparts. It is the playability that will determine the real value of a rainbow rare card.

If a card is currently featured in top decks, then it is going to have value to it. Once a Pokemon set has been rotated out of standard, then the value of that card is going to plummet. It will still have a bit of value as some people do collect the cards instead of playing them, but it will never be the same price as when it could be used in tournament-legal decks.

Cards that were never played in proper tournament decks never see the price change all that much. The value is still high, but it would be a fraction of the price of an actual tournament card.

Of course, there are some cards that will always have value, even when they are rotated out of the game. This is because they look good, and they often feature Pokemon that people want. Think about all of the sets that Charizard has appeared in.

The rarest Charizard rainbow rare is the Charizard VMAX card that was only found in the limited release Champions Path set. This card can hit upwards of $500.

First Edition Item Finder

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $750

The intent of the Item Finder is exactly as it sounds: it aids players in locating items.

While its name and how it helps players find items greatly changed in later Pokémon games, the first edition card merely instructs the player to discard two cards from his or her hand and replace them with a trainer card.

What to do next:

If your Pokemon cards are worth a lot of money You could hold onto the cards and collect them, as most collectors do, and hope they appreciate in value over time. It may be a good investment to get them professionally graded by PSA, this will dramatically increase their value.

You could sell your Pokemon cards to a local card shop, knowing full well what theyre worth . Keep in mind dealers will buy them from you at wholesale prices they have to make a profit after all, and selling a large collection takes a considerable amount of time and resources so dont expect to get 100% of what youd get online.

Selling your Pokemon cards online will get you the highest prices, but it can be time consuming: taking pictures, writing descriptions, responding to customers, packing, shipping, returns its a lot of work. If you have the time and patience, selling them online is a great way to make money. Read our guide to selling on eBay.

A more recent example, Pikachu VMAX Rainbow has ascended the ranks to stardom. This smirking, tubby wall of flesh is quite a strong card on its own, but its the shimmering secret quality thats got everyone going bananas.

The decided median for this special card is around $270.99. Since it is so new, it is likely going to fluctuate compared to the other cards on this list.

Psa 10 Kangaskhan Holo Family Event Trophy Card: $225000

Frustratingly for many people, some of the most valuable cards today are those that were given away as cheap, disposable rewards back in the ’90s and early ’00s. A good example of this is the family event trophy prize Kagaskhan, which was given away to parent/child teams who participated in the 1998 Japanese Mega Battle tournament. An important reason behind its value is the expansion symbol to the bottom right of the art this logo was only used on the earliest of Japanese cards, making cards with it, like Kangaskhan, exceedingly rare. The PSA has only ever identified 45 copies of the card, and just 11 given the illusive PSA 10 grade.

At auction, Kangaskhan’s received between $50,000 and $150,000, for those coveted PSA10-graded copies.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Venusaur #15

Now were getting somewhere. The final evolution of the starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, Venusaur had a massive part to play in both the games and the anime as one of the mainstays in Ashs party.

It featured on-the-box art for the original Japanese version of the game, although the Green edition was never released worldwide.

With over 137 PSA 10 copies in existence, the original holo Venusaur is clearly a coveted card.

It may pale in comparison to the likes of Blastoise and Charizard, but its still a member of the original trio that players got to choose from.

Pokmon Game 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Alakazam #1

The psychic-type Alakazam is next up, thanks to a great card found in the original 1999 release.

As you might expect, its another holo shadowless 1st edition card, ticking all of the boxes for serious collectors.

Alakazam might seem weak by modern standards, but he was a fearsome prospect in the original TGC. The evolution of evolution, you would start with Abra, followed by Kadabra.

Once again, there are fewer than 100 PSA 10 copies on the registry, with 88 graded at the last count.

What Are Shadowless Pokemon Cards

The Shadowless cards are the very first print runs that Wizards of the Coast produced for the Pokemon Base Set. WOTC did not like the look of the original Pokemon Cards. So, they changed several things on the cards to make them look better. The most obvious was putting the shadow around the box which had the art of the Pokemon character. The HP font was also changed and the colors were made to pop.

All 1st Edition Character cards are Shadowless. There is a very small print run of Unlimited Shadowless cards that followed the 1st Edition cards. The bulk of Unlimited cards have shadows. Shadowless Unlimited cards are generally worth more than shadowed versions of unlimited cards due to their scarcity.

Here are the releases of Base Set Pokemon Cards, in order:

  • 1st Edition All Shadowless

Prices are all based on Near Mint Condition. We highly recommend you get 1st Edition Holofoils cards from this set graded! .

The PSA 10 Column shows actual sold prices for 1st Edition cards on eBay. As Base Set cards are graded more and more, we have decided to show only PSA values for 7s and 10s.

Pokemon Japanese Promo Family Event Holo Kangaskhan Trophy Card

resale hound: POKEMON AND YU

Sold in October, 2020 for $150,100

Another holy-grail trophy card, the 1998 Japanese Promo Kangaskhan Family Event card, continues to be one of the rarest and most desirable of all Pokemon cards.

This card is especially interesting compared to other trophy cards because teams consisting of a parent and child battled each other to obtain it, which was an admirable effort to build family bonding.

Fittingly, the tournament organizers chose none other than Kangaskhan, a kangaroo-like Pokemon with a baby Kangaskhan in her pouch, as the trophy card mascot.

Just 47 examples have made their way across PSA’s grading table, with eleven assessed in PSA 10 condition.

Can You Sell Pokemon Energy Cards

You absolutely can. The great part is that they seem to be an easier sell than most other Pokemon cards. This is because everybody needs energy cards.

Do not expect to get a huge amount of cash for them. The most we have really seen them go for is 5-10 cents each. However, people are probably going to buy them from you.

The best part is that, unless you have the special energies that we mentioned previously, energy cards are never taken out of rotation. So, an energy card from the base set can be used in the current rotation of the game. This means that if you have one of the cooler designs of energy cards, it is going to be an even easier sale!

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Blastoise #2

The second of the trio of evolved starters from the 1999 set, Blastoise was also the cover star for Pokémon Blue.

First off, lets get the price tag out of the way. A PSA 10 copy sold for $45,000 in 2020, with another selling for $44,000 this year.

Its all the more astounding considering there are around 100 when looking at graded pristine copies.

However, Blastoise is indisputably one of the most popular Pokémon ever, and the same goes for Squirtle and Wartortle, which is the evolution path it follows.

In fact, its the second-most valuable card from the original 1999 set.
