What Generation Of Pokemon Are We On

Must read

Koraidon And Miraidon Are The Cover Legendaries

Here’s What we Can Expect From the Next Generation of Pokémon

Outside the starters, the Pokemon most closely associated with a new generation of Pokemon are the ones that grace the covers. Since Gold and Silver, that honor has been reserved for legendaries in mainline titles. The new legendaries in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are Koraidon and Miraidon. Koraidon is a feathery lizard while Miraidon has literal rockets instead of legs.

Worst: It Had The Weakest Remakes

Since Generation III, some Pokémon generations have included remakes of older games in addition to brand new games. Some of these are among the most popular games in the whole series, like FireRed and LeafGreen. Generation VIII included the remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and while these games are not entirely bad, they are easily the least popular remakes. Fans criticized the lack of new content, as these games were mostly just one-to-one remakes of their originals.

Pokemon Fans Think Gen 9 Is Getting Revealed This Weekend

Earlier today, The Pokemon Company revealed that a special Pokemon Presents video will air on Sunday, February 27th. That date coincides with Pokemon Day, and it already has a lot of fans excited to learn about the franchise’s future. At this time, we don’t know what will be revealed, but a lot of fans think that’s when we’ll get our first look at the ninth generation of Pokemon games. It’s been more than two years since the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield on Nintendo Switch, and we don’t know where the series will go from there.

Last year on Pokemon Day, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokemon Legends: Arceus were both revealed. It’s hard to say whether we’ll see something on that same level this weekend, but clearly The Pokemon Company sees this as an opportunity to reveal big titles for the year. Of course, there are a lot of Pokemon fans that don’t want to see a new mainline Pokemon game released this year, as they feel it would release too soon after Pokemon Legends: Arceus. One way or another, fans will see what happens in a few short days!

The truth is that there will be new main video games at the end of 2022, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. Thus, we say goodbye to Generation VIII and enter Generation IX, which will feature a multitude of new Pokémon, but how many main games and new species have there been in each generation? We take a look at the current Pokédex and how we have arrived at the 908 Pokémon in existence to date.

Ranking The 8 Gen 9 Pokmon Revealed So Far

Many fans are very excited by the reveals so far for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, with plenty of amazing newbies for players to choose from already.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is set for November of 2022, and a big trailer in June brought the list of revealed Pokémon up to eight. The new additions brought a ton of internet attention, and for good reason.

This new generation is shaping up to be one of the best design-wise in the entire series, with plenty of remarkably cute basic Pokémon and two interesting box art legendaries introduced. The eight potential partners revealed so far are all great designs, but some of them are certainly superior to others. How do all of the currently unveiled mons compare to one another?

Generation Viii: The Legendary Birds Get Regional Forms & Two New Regis Are Introduced

This generation has received plenty of harsh criticism, but fans were excited to see Legendary Pokémon get regional forms for the first time, which made Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres look drastically different. Regidrago and Regieleki were also introduced, and like other Legendary titans, fans had to solve puzzles to get to them. Zacian and Zamazenta quickly became popular as well, as one wields a sword in its mouth while the other acts as a shield. Calyrex and his steed, either Spectrier or Glastrier, were also a great addition, adding a lot of humor to the storyline each time it spoke to the player. Kubfu and Urshifu were not as impactful to the story, but the game gave trainers a chance to bond with it through cutscenes. Unfortunately, many of these Pokémon are only available through DLC, not to mention Eternatus and some of the other Legendary Pokémon are not able to Dynamax.

Other New Pokmon Were Revealed In A Second Trailer With The Game’s Release Date

Three other new Pokémon were unveiled in the new trailer that players will be able to find in the wild as they play.

Pawmi is the first to make an appearance. This small orange mouse Pokémon has electric patches on its cheeks reminiscent of Pikachu. “It generates electricity by rubbing its cheeks, then it shocks its opponents by touching them with the pads on its forepaws,” the Pokémon’s description reads.

Lechonk is a new fan favorite, as the pig-like Pokémon’s adorable pudginess hides its muscular build. “Lechonk uses its sense of smell to find and eat only the most fragrant wild grasses and the richest Berries. As a result of its dining habits, it has come to radiate an aroma resembling herbs that Bug-type Pokémon dislike. If attacked by an opponent and startled, it will charge forward in a panic,” the Pokémon’s description reads.

Meet Lechonk, the Hog Pokémon! It may appear fat at first glance, but in reality, the Pokémons body is mostly muscle built by constantly walking around in search of food.

Sprigatito Quaxly And Fuecoco Are The Starters Of Pokemon Scarlet And Violet

A Wheel Decides Our RANDOM GENERATION of Pokemon…Then we FIGHT!

As one would expect, a new trio of grass, fire, and water-type starters are coming. Sprigatito is set to be the new grass-type starter, Quaxly will be the water-type, and Fuecoco rounds things out as the fire-type. They have the standard set of abilities with Overgrow, Blaze, and Torrent, though hidden abilities will likely come out later to distinguish them from past generations starters.

At present it is unknown what they will evolve into. Its possible that the Pokemon will be less anthropomorphized to distinguish them from the likes of Incineroar, Golduck, and Krookodile.

Pokemon Games: A History Of Releases

POKEMON

The release dates for most Pokemon games don’t necessarily have a pattern, but it can still be useful to look at when each game was released. These dates refer to the general global launch of each individual mainline game, rather than the Japanese one.

  • PokemonRed and Blue launched worldwide back in 1998, and they followed the Japanese release of Pokemon Red and Green of 1996
  • Pokemon Yellow released in 1999
  • Pokemon Gold and Silver shipped in 2000
  • Pokemon Crystal arrived on the shelves in 2001
  • Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were released in 2003
  • Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen launched in 2004
  • Pokemon Emerald came out a bit later than expected, in 2005
  • Pokemon Diamond and Pearl arrived on the shelves in 2007
  • In 2020 the DLCs for Sword and Shield released, with DLC 1 being Isle ofArmor, and DLC 2 being Crown Tundra
  • 2021 will see the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamondand Pokemon Shining Pearl
  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set to drop sometime in 2022, but a release window has not been discussed yet

For Pokemon games involving new generations and new regions, the time that passed between releases varies from two to four years. If this was to be considered a pattern of sorts, then the average time gap would be 3 years, meaning that Pokemon generation 9 could drop in 2022, considering Sword and Shield released in 2019. However, this logic is not one that should be followed.

List of Pokémon by generation

The eighth generation of the Pokémon franchise features 92 fictional species of creatures introduced to the core video game series, including 89 in the 2019 Nintendo Switch games Pokémon Sword and Shield as of version 1.2.0 with at least three further species introduced in the 2022 Nintendo Switch game Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The starter Pokémon were the first Pokémon of the generation to be revealed on February 27, 2019.

A major change in the eighth generation compared to previous ones is that Pokémon and forms are introduced via game patches instead of exclusively through new games.

Are Pokemon’s Gen 9 Games Coming In 2022

The release date of Pokemon Legends: Arceus has fans buzzing about the potential release of a new generation of Pokemon games in 2022. Earlier today, The Pokemon Company announced that it would be releasing Pokemon Legends: Arceus on January 22nd, 2022. The announcement was a surprise for a few reasons, not only because the game is coming out just over two months after the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but also because the games leave room for the release of a “main series” Pokemon game during its traditional release window in 2022. That has fans speculating whether The Pokemon Company will release its next generation of Pokemon games in 2022, which would add a new region and new Pokemon to the franchise.

The Pokemon fanbase unofficially labels Pokemon games by generation, which are always marked by a new Pokemon game set in a new region and featuring new Pokemon. We’re currently in the eighth generation of Pokemon games, which started with the launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield in 2019. Instead of receiving an “enhanced version” of Pokemon Sword and Shield, The Pokemon Company instead opted to release DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield that nearly doubled the size of the game. The upcoming games Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokemon Legends: Arceus are also both considered “Gen 8” games.

Pokemon Generation 9 And The Future Legacy Of Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be the very first fully open-world Pokemon game in the history of the franchise, and it will most likely serve as a benchmark for future games of the series. It’s not implausible that a new Pokemon game involving generation nine critters will draw inspiration from both Pokemon Sword and Shield and Pokemon Legends:Arceus. Sword and Shield made a few key steps towards the open-world design, and they introduced or improved a huge amount of features that improved the overall quality of life of these games. Pokemon Legends: Arceus will launch three years after Sword and Shield, give or take, meaning that further progress will be made in terms of how the title pans out and feels like while playing.

Pokemon games about generation nine will have to use the previous titles as a springboard, while also learning from what didn’t work for players in order to enhance critical areas that demand attention. If generation nine proves to build upon the legacy of Pokemon Legends:Arceus, then it is likely that it will take a bit longer than other mainline Pokemon games usually do, but with many assets already there it could take less than Legends: Arceus itself. Hopefully, the game will be worth the wait, and news drops sooner than expected, so as to surprise millions of fans.

No Pokemon generation nine games are known to be in development.

Generation Iv: The Creation Trio Are Some Of The Strongest Legendary Pokmon

The 10 Best First-Generation Pokemon

Dialga controls time, Palkia controls space, and Giratina controls antimatter. This makes it possible for them to destroy and remake the universe, which is precisely why the game’s villain seeks them out. This makes them the strongest Legendary Pokémon, as other Legendary Pokémon are at most capable of destruction on a planetary scale.

The Lake Guardians are adorable additions, save for the fact that only Mespirit decides to become a roaming Pokémon after the trainer encounters it. Cresselia and Heatran are the most forgettable in this generation, as Cresselia doesn’t exist as an overworld or roaming encounter until the trainer acquires a specific item. Heatran embodies the planet’s core, but it’s not as impressive as Groudon. However, Regigigas appears in this generation as the leader of the Legendary Titans, opening up the realm of possibility that more could exist.

Pokmon Gen 9 Announced: Scarlet And Violet Releasing This Year

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been announced at the February Pokémon Presents, revealing glimpses of the new Generation 9 region and gameplay.

Generation 9 has officially been revealed with a new trailer, unveiling the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games with glimpses into the new region. The news is one of many reveals from the Pokémon Presents February livestream event, which also confirmed a new update for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as well as more on Pokémon Unite, GO, and other games.

While there have been lots of new Pokémon game releases since Sword and Shield and its then-new Gen 8 ‘mons came to Nintendo Switch in 2019, none have yet introduced a full new Generation of Pokémon. Players have been enjoying remakes like 2021’s Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as well as the recently-released Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the pocket monsters included in the titles aren’t entirely new . Fans have eagerly been awaiting news on Pokémon’s Gen 9 games and characters, but Game Freak and Nintendo have thus far kept quiet.

Worst: Lots Of Humanoid Starters

A common gripe in the Pokémon community in recent years is that starter Pokémon have started to resemble humanoids to a detrimental degree. The Galar starters were big offenders on this front, with Cinderace and Inteleon being extremely humanoid.

Rillaboom did slightly better by resembling a gorilla, but it plays drums like a human drummer. Many fans pine for the days of more monstrous starter Pokémon like Meganium, Swampert, and Charizard.
