The primary issues facing Target and Panini/Topps are a good thing. Its bad when nobody is interested in the product. Thats clearly not the case. Its a good thing that everyone wants to be part of collecting trading cards again.
But, of course, its bad that there was an argument that resulted in a gun being brandished no shots fired, thankfully and its bad that a few distributor reps had tracking devices placed on their cars so flippers knew which store they were headed to next. Yes, Kazmierczak said, that really happened. Once in the Midwest region and once in the Northeast. And it sucks that retail employees have had to deal with aggressive flippers and irritated customers. They absolutely dont deserve that.
These things are not good. But theyre all fixable problems.
The industry is in a great place. The challenge right now is that the demand is so far ahead of the supply, and theres no way we can get the supply anywhere near it, Kazmierczak said. No matter what we do, the pricing is going to be out of whack. I know many people dont understand that, but thats just the simple reality of where things are at. I like a hot market, but I would certainly welcome a little more balance.
You cant just think short-term, Kazmierczak said. You have to also think long-term because you have that contract for extended years, and if you screw the marketplace up, youre going to wallow in it.

After Parking Lot Assault Target Stops Selling Pokmon And Sports Cards In Stores
Target is temporarily pulling sports cards and Pokémon trading cards off its shelves. Why? Because demand is so high, the company is worried about the safety of its guests.
In a statement to Bring Me The News, the retailer confirmed it will stop selling MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards in stores starting Friday, May 14.
Interest in these cards has surged in recent months – particularly the Pokémon cards, some of which, Vice explains, are selling for thousands of dollars.
Not only is demand for the cards high, but there are shortages of the card packs, leading to customers scooping up armfuls whenever they are back in stock. In Las Vegas, for example, prospective card buyers lined up before Target opened on an anticipated restock day:
Last week, things boiled over at a Target in Brookfield, Wisconsin. As CBS 58 reported, around 8:20 a.m. on May 7, four adults attacked a man in the Target parking lot over a disagreement regarding a sports trading card purchase.
The victim, who has a legal permit to carry, then pulled out a gun, prompting the four attackers to flee.
“The safety of our guests and our team is our top priority,” said Target in its statement to Bring Me The News, saying the decision to stop selling cards in stores for the time being is being done “out of an abundance of caution.”

How To Buy Pokemon Cards
While under normal circumstances there is generally enough stock to go around, the world has changed a lot in the last year. Scalpers have drained online stock, in stores scalpers and adult fans clamor for what supply is left, and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have made it difficult for companies to manufacture enough inventory to meet the current demand.
The combination of all of these has made for the perfect conditions to exasperate already tense situations. There have been attempts to curb the strain on trading cards but they have not been the most successful. In truth, there is little incentive for big companies and corporations to do much so long as they are making money. This makes the overall wellness of the collecting community, especially for hobbies like the Pokemon TCG, a responsibility for older fans.
Buying less or avoiding collections and releases that do not interest you as much as others could be a great way to contribute. Not only would it keep more stock available for other fans but as the feverish search for Pokemon cards slows down the after-market could begin to die. It might not be the best idea, but it feels like the one that the community has the most control over. Negative interactions have already resulted in Target no longer selling Pokemon cards which makes leading by example one of the best avenues for older fans to take. Hopefully, as things get back to a more level state the strain on supply falls but that is yet to be seen.

Scalping is certainly a touchy subject in the community, as it should be, and recent developments have shown the effects that scalping has on the hobby. Not only has it led to prices being slightly increased online or in some cases greatly increased but it has created tension in a wholesome community that just wants to have product available on the shelves. Up until recently, this is the worst it has ever been, but now its gone a step further. Pokemon cards and possibly some other trading card games are reportedly not going to be sold at Target and Walmart stores anymore due to the trouble they are causing.
I am sure everyone is aware of this by now, but Pokemon is absolutely booming and has been since right before the pandemic started. It was advertised by celebrities, people were looking for things to do, nostalgia finally kicked in and it was already wildly popular to begin with.
Sealed Pokemon product is performing very well right now and some of it is difficult to obtain at a reasonable price. I do have some bad news and some good news for you Pokemon fans out there that I will be sharing in this article. Time to move on to the bad and then we can wrap things up in a positive manner.

Why Target Has Stopped Selling Pokemon Cards
Effective May 14th, Target will no longer be carrying Pokemon cards in their stores located in the United States.
The news was more shocking than one of Pikachu’s electric attacks, as Pokemon card collecting has become significantly more prevalent than ever before. Of course, the reason behind Target’s decision was perfectly valid.
The decision came after an altercation broke out over trading cards in the parking area of a Target store in Wisconsin, USA. The conflict ended with a man revealing he had a gun when four other people reportedly assaulted him.
After such a drastic and traumatic incident, it is entirely understandable why Target will no longer be selling Pokemon trading cards in their physical stores. After all, the company must put the safety of their customers and staff at the top of their priority list.

Card enthusiasts who reside in the United States will need to find a new place to look for Pokemon cards or do so on Target’s website. Unfortunately, an incident like this wasn’t totally unexpected, as people have been seen to take rash actions over collectibles for decades.
Why Is Target Not Selling Pokmon Cards
Target has stopped selling Pokémon cards due to safety concerns for employees and other patrons.
The increased resale values of the collectible item has sparked violence in certain Target stores around the country.
Target confirmed this decision to comic book and game website Bleeding Cool.
The safety of our guests and our team is our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, weve decided to temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards within our stores, effective May 14,” the retailer said in a statement.

Did Target Stop Selling Pokemon Cards
Yes. For a brief period in early 2021, Target did stop selling Pokemon cards. In fact, they ended up refusing to sell all trading cards. This is because the high demand for certain trading cards had caused a lot of violence in their stores. As a result, they decided to pull all of the stock from their shelves. This lasted for a little over a month.
In June 2021, they decided to put the stock back on the shelves. However, in order to prevent people from arguing in the Target stores, they had to have specific limits in place. Each person is only allowed to purchase 2 products from the range per day. It can be any two products. So, you could buy 2 booster packs and reach your daily cap. You could also buy 2 promo boxes and reach your daily cap.
It is unlikely that this is a policy which is going to be changing any time soon. There is likely going to be a shortage of Pokemon cards for the next few sets. This means that we would anticipate seeing Pokemon card restrictions at Target going well into 2022.
We do want to point out that the staff are going to be keeping tabs on the number of products each person has bought. They are really strict against this policy.
Remember, this is going to be a limit per guest. If you have multiple people in your group , then you are allowed to buy 2 Pokemon products for each of them. Well, at least this should be the rule in the vast majority of Target stores.
What Days Does Target Restock
Target restocks every day at 7:00 pm. Stores typically receive stock around 12 times a day throughout the week, so you can reasonably expect things like new games or movies to show up in your store four or five hours after they appear on the website.
Stores may also receive shipments between 10-11 pm PST, which could mean better deals on older games and movies than usual, as well.

According to a post on the PokemonTCG subreddit by user drewuptown, major stores that are selling Pokémon trading cards include Walmart, Meijer, Fred Meyer, Costco, Sams Club, BJs and Scheels.
They have also been found in Best Buy, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Kohls, TJ Maxx, Five Below, Party City, Burlington, and Big Lots, as well as in smaller stores like Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Hot Topic, and Gamestop.
Additionally, the Reddit thread says that stores such as Barnes and Noble, Dollar General and Dollar Tree sell the cards.
While this isnt an official list and inventory will vary, these stores may be a good place to start your search. Many online stores and reselling sites also claim to be selling the cards.

The price of the trading cards has increased as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Joe Maddalena, executive vice-president at Texas-based Heritage Auctions, spoke to Reuters about the spike in prices.
