Pokemon HOME is a cloud-based service from the company where players can store their favourite Pokemons from a number of Pokemon games. The Pokemon Home can be downloaded as an app and it is also available on Android and iOS devices, apart from Nintendo Switch. As of right now, Pokemon fans can only transfer their Pokemon creatures from Pokemon Bank, Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon: Lets Go, Eevee and Pikachu to the cloud storage service.

As of today, Pokemon Go is now compatible with Pokemon Home. This is exciting news for Pokemon fans, because it greatly expands the number of monsters that can be transferred from Niantic’s popular mobile game to Pokemon Sword and Shield. It wouldn’t be Pokemon if there weren’t a lot of hoops to jump through, though, and Pokemon Go throws up quite a few barriers to getting your beloved Shiny Groudon over to the Nintendo Switch.

As of right now, if you want to complete a transfer from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Home, you need to fit the following requirements:
- You have to be Level 40 in Pokemon Go
- The “Go Transporter” item must have a sufficient amount of energy
- You must have already caught the Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so you can’t use Pokemon Go to fill your Pokedex
- Mega Evolutions, Shadow Pokemon, and unique costumes can’t be transferred
Those are some pretty onerous restrictions, making it effectively impossible to transfer your entire collection over to Pokemon Sword and Shield in one go. Indeed, as someone currently trapped at Level 32 in Pokemon Go, I’ve yet to be able to access the feature at all. Alas, poor Shiny Dragonite, you appear to be doomed to remain trapped in the purgatory of Alameda, California.

How To Transfer Pokmon From Switch Games Sword And Shield And Pokmon Let’s Go To Pokmon Home And Back To Sword And Shield
Transferring Pokémon from Switch games are the easiest of all transfer options available, and requires just the use of Pokémon Home software on Switch.
Load up Home on Switch and on the main Pokémon Home menu there are two main options – Pokémon and Pokédex.
Selecting ‘Pokémon’ will display your save files from any local Switch games, as well as your online Pokémon Home box.
Choose a save file to reveal two boxes side-by-side – Pokémon Home on the left, and your Pokémon Sword and Shield or Let’s Go Pokémon on the right. Simply drag and drop your Pokémon, then once done, press the + button to save your settings.
It’s broadly as simple as that, though there are some additional restrictions in place:
- With Let’s Go, though you can move Pokémon between different versions of Let’s Go and Home, once it’s in Sword and Shield, it cannot be used in Let’s Go again.
- Anything not supported in the Pokémon Sword and Shield Pokédex cannot be moved to those games – though this list will be expanded in future Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass.
How to send Pokémon from Home to Sword and Shield
Moving Pokémon from Home to Sword and Shield is thankfully nice and simple, too. To return Pokémon to Sword and Shield from Home, or transfer any new Pokémon you’ve got in Home via Pokémon Go, Let’s Go, or Mystery Gifts, take the following steps:

Rainy Sunny And Snowy Castform
Castform is a Pokemon that changes appearance and type based on the weather. The logical next step was for players to catch different Castform types based on their own local weather! It’s a pretty cool feature that increases the player’s immersion ten-fold.
Unfortunately, this hard work might be in vain if people want to send their Castforms over to Pokemon HOME. The game will let you, but it automatically changes the pokemon’s type back to its neutral form.
What Pokmon Games Can I Use With Pokmon Home
As you can see above, Pokémon HOME is fully compatible with Pokémon Sword and Shield – you can transfer your Pokémon to and from the app at will.
You can also transfer Pokémon between Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! via Pokémon HOME, and transfer compatible Pokémon to from those games to Sword and Shield, although only monsters that are part of Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Galar Pokédex . Additionally, once they’re in Sword or Shield, they cannot then be transferred back to Let’s Go, Pikachu or Eevee.
Once transferred to Pokémon HOME, your Pokémon will be listed in the National Pokédex . Remember, Pokémon Sword and Shield has it’s own Pokédex and is not compatible with every single Pokémon, although with the additional Pokémon from the Expansion Passes, Sword and Shield will support over 600 Pokémon.
It is not currently possible to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME, although the feature is coming. It should be noted that transferred Pokémon cannot be moved back to Pokémon GO once they have been moved to Pokémon HOME.
For previous generation games, all Pokémon must be transferred via Pokémon Bank on 3DS. While it is possible to transfer Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokémon from the 3DS Virtual Console releases of the original Game Boy games , it is not possible to move Pokémon from original Game Boy cartridges to Pokémon HOME.

How To Transfer Pokmon From 3ds Games With Pokmon Bank
Transferring Pokémon from 3DS games – such as X and Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Moon – requires the use of Pokémon Bank on 3DS, as well as access to Pokémon Home on Switch or on a smartphone during the move process.
First, get Pokémon Bank on 3DS. If you’re like us and you haven’t used your 3DS in a while, make sure the system firmware is fully up to date, allowing you to then download it.
If you’re doing this within the free Pokémon Bank window, you’ll receive a notification of the offer within the system menu, which contains a direct link to the Pokémon Bank listing in the eShop. Otherwise, go to the Pokémon area of the eShop to find Pokémon Bank there.
Next, make sure you’ve moved all the Pokémon you want from the supported games through to Pokémon Bank.
To move Pokémon from a 3DS game to Pokémon Bank, select the top-most option on the main menu. From there, this operates much the same as it does moving Pokémon in Home – by scanning the save files found locally, then allowing you to access them by dragging and dropping Pokémon between a box from the save file to Pokémon Bank.
Once your desired Pokémon are in Pokémon Bank, then select ‘Move Pokémon to Pokémon Home’ from the main menu. After the warning about it being a one-way trip, select the Pokémon boxes you want to move across.
Now, you need a Moving Key.
Note – you need a Premium Home subscription to use this, even during the free Bank promotion during Pokémon Home’s launch.
The Cost Of Transferring Pokemon
Energy is a new currency exclusive to the Go Transporter. You start with 10,000. It looks like a blue bar, and once it empties you start regaining energy at 60 per hour. At that rate, it takes just under a week to fully recharge. You can also pay to recharge faster at a rate of 1 PokeCoin for 10 energy.

How Do I Move Pokmon From Pokmon Home To Pokmon Sword And Shield
Once you’ve moved Pokémon to Pokémon HOME from Sword and Shield or other sources, compatible Pokémon can easily be transferred back to Sword and Shield by connecting with the game again and dragging your chosen Pokémon to the game’s boxes. Remember that only Pokémon present in the Galar Pokédex can be moved to Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Also remember that POKÉMON TRANSFERRED FROM LET’S GO PIKACHU AND EEVEE CANNOT BE MOVED BACK TO THOSE GAMES ONCE YOU’VE MOVED THEM TO SWORD AND SHIELD .

Now that Pokémon Legends: Arceus has been released, many players may be wondering if it’s compatible with Pokémon Home. This would allow trainers to transfer their Pokémon from Legends: Arceus into Home‘s cloud service for Pokémon storage. Pokmon Go To Home Limitations Gigantamax Melmetal And Mystery Box Rewards And Other Things To Know About Transferring From Go To Home
There are a few other things to bear in mind when transferring Pokémon from Go to Home.
- The first time you do so, you’ll recieve a Gigantamax Melmetal as a reward! You can claim it via the Mystery Gift function on the mobile version of Home only.
- You’ll also be able to open a Mystery Box in Pokémon Go, causing Meltan to appear for a set period of time. More on that in our Melmetal and Mystery Boxes guide!
- Not all Pokémon can be transferred from Go to Home. Specifically, you can’t transfer Spinda, Kyurem Black/White, any Shadow or Mega Evolved Pokémon, or any of the special event Pokémon that have an altered appearance, like Armoured Mewtwo, Party Hat Pikachu or the Flower Crown Eeveelutions.
- Pokémon with different forms in Go will default to a specific form in Home . Specifically this will alter forms to:
- Castform Sunny/Rainy/Snowy – Castform Normal
- Meloetta Pirouette – Meloetta Aria
- Genesect Burn/Chill/Douse/Shock – Genesect Normal
- Certain Pokémon require you to have caught them or registered them in your Pokédex first, in order for you to transfer them from Home to Sword and Shield. In brief, these are all of the legendaries/mythicals catachable in Sword and Shield via Dynamax Adventures, plus Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Victini and Genesect. Connect Pokmon Go To Your Pokmon Home Account
Youll then need to link your Pokémon GO account to the same Nintendo Account youve used to connect to your mobile Pokémon Home account. You can do this by following the steps below.

Select Pokemon To Transfer To Pokemon Home
After you’ve linked Pokemon Go to your Pokemon Home account, you’ll be able transfer most monsters from the game to the storage service . To start the transfer process, go to the Pokemon Home section in Settings and tap Send Pokemon. This will open the Go Transporter. Tap on the Pokemon you’d like to send over to Pokemon Home and select Transport to move them.
A Few Restrictions On Transferring
As mentioned before, there are a few restrictions and workarounds to transfer mass amounts of Pokémon from Go to Home. One of the first things to note is that the Go Transporter requires energy to send Pokémon to Home. Different Pokémon will require different amounts of energy. Legendary and shiny Pokémon, for example, will require different amounts of energy to transfer them. The Go Transporter will be fully energized when you first use it but, after every use, the energy level will go down and youll have to wait a set amount of time before the Go Transporter to build up all of its energy again. You also have the option of buying Go Transporter energy with PokéCoins, but its a bit costly to do this. The cost to fully charge the Transporter is 1,000 PokéCoins, which feels a little outrageous.
Additionally, not every Pokémon can be transferred from Go to Home. Pokémon that are special or exclusive to Go, such as Armored Mewtwo, costumed Pokémon that were part of an event, Shadow, Purified, or Lucky Pokémon, cannot be transferred to Pokémon Home. Its important to keep this in mind when selecting Pokémon to transfer, because you may have selected a Pokémon that cannot actually move to Home.

Getting Pokmon From Pokmon Go To Pokmon Home
To get your Pokémon from Pokémon GO into Home, you need to have both of the apps downloaded on your mobile device. You will also need an active Nintendo Account that you can link to both apps. Once you set your Pokémon Home app up on mobile, you can begin the transfer process. Heres how:
Keep in mind that you can only transfer a certain number of Pokémon at once. The GO Transporter uses energy for transfers, and once its out of energy, you wont be able to transfer anything. The amount of energy it uses depends on the Pokémon you are transferring.
To recharge the GO Transporter, you can wait , or you can use Pokécoins to instantly charge it. You can get the coins by defending gyms or purchasing them with real currency.
Once the Pokémon are in Pokémon Home, you can access them on the Nintendo Switch and transfer them to Pokémon Sword and Shield .
Keep in mind that for every Pokémon from Kanto, you can also get them onto the Nintendo Switch without using any transporter energy by importing them to Pokémon Lets Go Pikachu or Lets Go Eevee and then moving them from there to Pokémon Home.

How To Transfer From Pokemon Go To Pokemon Home
In November 2020, Pokemon Go added the ability to directly transfer Pokemon from the mobile game to Home. To begin the process, you’ll first need to connect Pokemon Go to the same Nintendo Account you have linked to Pokemon Home. Fire up the game and tap on the Poke Ball icon at the bottom of the screen to open the menu. From there, tap on Settings in the upper right-hand corner, then scroll down and select Pokemon Home. You’ll be prompted to sign in with your Nintendo Account.
Once you’ve connected Pokemon Go to your Pokemon Home account, you can starting moving Pokemon to the service. Tap on Send Pokemon from the Pokemon Home section in Settings and you’ll be taken to the Go Transporter. Select the monsters you’d like to transfer and tap Transport to move them. After that, open Pokemon Home on your mobile device, tap on the menu button on the bottom of the screen, and select Options. Scroll down until you see Pokemon Go Link, then tap Receive to complete the transfer process.
Beyond direct transfers, there is a roundabout method for bringing certain Pokemon over from the mobile game. If you have a copy of Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee, you are able to transfer any Gen 1 Pokemon that you’ve caught in Pokemon Go to those titles through the Go Park, a facility located in Fuchsia City.

Pokémon Home can now transfer to Pokémon GO, but the energy cost to do so varies depending on the Pokémon’s level and rarity, and it adds up quickly.
The highly anticipated release of the transfer system between Pokémon Home and Pokémon GO is now live, and fans are eager to get their Pokémon in the transporter. However, the cost of transferring from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Home appears to be steeper than originally thought, and players will have to balance their allotted energy carefully if they are going to be transferring Shiny and Legendary Pokémon, or they might find themselves looking down the barrel of microtransactions for PokéCoins.
Currently the maximum cap for transporter energy is set at 10,000 units. The regain is 60 energy per hour, meaning that it can take almost a full week for a player to completely restore the transporter’s energy stores to full capacity. This might not seem like a big issue, until players look at the breakdown for energy transfer costs. The meager 60 Energy regen compared to the required energy needed to transfer a Shiny or Legendary Pokémon doesn’t balance at all for players who might be hoping to transfer a good number of their rare Pokémon to other games.
