How To Play Pokmon Tcg

*What Does It All Mean???* Pokemon Card Tiers Explained (ex, Star, Prime, EX, GX, Tag Team, V, VMAX)

That’s without mentioning the great sense of nostalgia a lot of players feel when they go back to a world and series of games they enjoyed when they were younger. With Pokémon in one form or another so familiar to millions of people, figuring out how to play the Pokémon TCG is a cinch – at its heart, it’s the same as the video games you already know.

Even so, learning to play a competitive collectible card game of any kind can be a confusing task for total newcomers. So to start you on your journey to discovering what for some has been a lifelong hobby and for others is an old friend worth getting reacquainted with, we’ve put together this handy step-by-step guide to how to play the Pokémon TCG.

How Does The Whole Ex/gx Thing Work

So I’m new to the Pokemon TCG, atleast when learning how to play the game itself. I’ve gotten confused to what distinguishes EX and GX cards. I looked it up and all I found was that GX are majorly basic cards that can be played without the need of evolving it, for quick turnarounds. Ex on the other hand need to be evolved into from a basic card, so planning is necessary. However I need help with the tournament rules, so If I’m right only 1 EX is a allowed. I don’t know if EX and GX follow the same rules. This is mainly because I want a lucario and M Lucario . I want to use a Lucario GX and a Mega Lucario EX, is that allowed, or do I need Riolu, a normal Lucario, then a M. Lucario EX? I ask this because I don’t want to accidently get used to just for fun rules, then to have my cards be pulled as tournament illegal, and have to make a new deck all over again. Thanks for the help 😀

The only things needed to know the rules of a particular card are just a rulebook and the card itself.

Regarding EX cards, there’s nothing written on them about limiting them to one per deck so this rule from rulebook applies:

When you are building a deck, you can have only 4 copies of a card with the same name in it, except for basic Energy cards.

In the rulebook there are appendices for both Pokémon EX and Mega Pokémon explaining the rules that are written on the cards if you’d like to know more.

How Many Cards Do You Need To Play Pokmon Tcg

Each player has a deck of exactly 60 cards, consisting of Pokémon cards, energy cards, item cards and trainer cards.

Apart from energy cards, you cant have more than four cards in your deck with the same name.

When you’re first learning how to play the Pokémon TCG, it might be best to pick up one of the pre-built decks available for the trading card game. Once you know the basics, you can learn how to build a Pokémon TCG deck to include all your favourite Pokémon and customise your play style.

How To Win The Pokmon Trading Card Game

Like many other competitive trading card games, the Pokémon TCG can be won in a variety of ways:

  • The most common path to victory is to knock out six of your opponents Pokémon and collect prize cards. Every time you defeat a Pokémon controlled by your rival, you claim one of the six prize cards you set aside at the start of the game and add it to your hand. When you pick up your sixth and final card, you win!
  • If you defeat an opponents active Pokémon and they have no available Pokémon on their bench to replace it, you can also claim victory.
  • If your opponent runs out of cards in their deck, and therefore cant draw a card at the beginning of their turn, you win. This is whats known as decking your opponent.

How To Play The Pokmon Trading Card Game

The basic flow of play in the Pokémon TCG is relatively simple to grasp, but it involves a few steps youll need to learn before your first battle.

How do you start the Pokémon TCG?

At the beginning of a game, players can flip a coin to see who plays first. Then the decks are shuffled, players draw a hand of seven cards and the top six cards are set aside as prize cards you add one of these to your hand each time one you defeat an opponents Pokémon, and claim victory if you pick up all six before your rival.

Both players can place one basic Pokémon card facedown as their active Pokémon, plus up to five more basic Pokémon on their bench. If you don’t have any basic Pokémon cards in your hand after drawing your initial hand of seven cards, reveal your hand to your opponent and draw seven more hands. You can repeat this as many times as you want until you have at least one basic Pokémon – but your opponent gets to draw one extra card for every time you do.

How do turns work in the Pokémon TCG?

When each turn begins, the active player draws a card from the top of their deck if you run out of cards in your deck and can’t draw on your next turn, you lose.

During each turns second phase, you can do any and all of the following:

Attacking in the Pokémon TCG

After youve done the above, your active Pokémon can attack the opponent. The Pokémon can perform one attack listed on its card as long as the correct amount and type of energy is attached to the card.

There are lots of ways your kid can learn how to play the trading card game. The best way to learn is with a Trainer Kit. It comes with two ready-to-play decks that will walk your kid and a friend through the game step by step. Once your kid is used to this one, you can get started with a theme deck. NEW POKEMON TCG GX MECHANIC Solgaleo GX Lunala GX WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!?

Sword and Shield cards have arrived.

VMax is a new archetype being introduced in the upcoming Pokémon TCG Sword and Shield expansion that could flip the game on its head.

While the game might still steer toward Tag Team GX cards until their eventual demise at the hands of the yearly set rotation, VMax cards could eventually take over as the powerhouses of the set due to their high health bars and strong attacks.

VMax cards are effectively Gigantamax Pokémon from the Sword and Shield video games. They can be equipped to any V Pokémon of the same type. A VMax Lapras, for example, can attach itself to V Lapras, akin to how Level X cards used to work in the Diamond and Pearl era.

When equipped, they gain powerful attacks. If theyre destroyed in battle by an opponent, the player can take three Prize Cards for defeating them, just like with Tag Team GX creatures.

V cards are already powerful in their own right, but VMax creatures can up the ante and force an opponent into a difficult situation. Many Pokémon fans will be curious to see how these cards perform when theyre released in February 2020 and beyond.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game has integrated Dyanamax and Gigantamax mechanics from Sword and Shield with the addition of V and VMAX cards.

There are many different ways to enjoy the Pokémon game series. While fans have played Pokémon video games, the PokémonTrading Card Game is arguably just as well known. Released in 1996, the PokémonTCG has remained a popular way for Pokémon fans to come together and take each other on in battle. Players can collect cards from each of the series’ 8 different regions, and there are many playstyle mechanics that have been adapted into the TCG over the years. This includes the most recent card variants, V and VMAX.

V and VMAX cards were introduced to the Pokémon TCGalongside Pokémon Sword and Shield. The VMAX cards are meant to mimic Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics from the game. This special battle style allows a player to super-size their Pokémon when battling over a Power Spot in the Sword and Shield games. Power Spots aren’t needed in the TCG, however. Instead, players only need to pull a V and VMAX card to take advantage of a giant Pokémon’s powerful abilities during a battle.

What Are You Supposed To Do With Pokmon Cards

Younger kids tend to just collect and trade the cards. As they learn to read, they may also want to play the trading card game. The point of collecting the cards is to build a powerful deck of 60 that will help you win battles against other trainers. But your kid might just be interested in collecting the cards he likes best or deems most valuable. Each pack of cards is different, so if your kid doesnt have any cards , you may want to get him started with a theme deck: a pack of 60 cards that comes in a small cardboard box or metal tin. Theme decks also come with a coin and cardboard markers that can be used in gameplay when deciding which player goes first or when counting damage, but you can also use die instead. Cards also come in booster packs of 10, in tins or blister packs.

New cards are released every time a new season of the TV show comes outyour kid might refer to this as a new generation or series. The new series usually coincides with the latest video game titles. Right now, the trading card game is in its eighth generation, so all of the newer collections of cards will say Sword & Shield on the box.

Please Help Me Understand Ex Gx Mega Break And That Lugia Card That’s Split Into Two And A Few Other Things

I’m new, please don’t get upset about the baby questions post I just made, it’s been bugging me since I started playing again roughly a month ago. So, back when I quit playing a few years back, the meta was Magnezone sending energy cards into the Lost zone and basically winning matches. Now, I faintly remember some cards being a bit different but never minding that, let’s fast forward to today:

I installed the game, I played some matches, long story short I end up seeing a bunch of cards with EX and GX in their names. Some of them are Stage 2 Pokemon but the card clearly states it’s a Basic one. Then there’s sideways cards that give you an extra move, but those are like a 3rd Stage, which is the same thing with Mega cards, but those make you end your turn. Now this is where it gets really messy for me. You can still get all of these cards at the same time a regular player might use a normal Basic-Stage1-Stage2 Pokemon card that might be significantly plainer. Did any of the special ones go obsolete in the 6 years that flew by?

To keep it simple: 1 What’s the order of appearance? -EX -GX -Mega -Break -Legend -Dual type -anything else?

2 Which ones can be Basic even though they’re evolved — GX, EX, Break?

3 Which are still being used predominantly, i.e. haven’t gone obsolete in comparison to the others that are in the current meta?

    Thanks in advance

    What Are Pokemon Gx Cards

What are Pokemon GX cards? New in the Pokemon TCG!

Pokemon GX cards operate similarly to ex cards but with an added twist. Like both ex and EX, GX monsters give your opponent two prize cards when they’re defeated rather than the usual one. However, they compensate with high HP and attack values. Like ex cards, they assume their normal point in evolution you can’t play upgraded forms as basic cards like with EX monsters, you must first evolve them from prior evolutions.

So what makes GX cards different from ex? Well, they wield unique GX attacks, based on the Z-move mechanic from the Sun and Moon video games. Like Z-moves, you can only use one GX attack per battlenot one per Pokemon per game, just one per game. Thus, you’ll want to think carefully about which GX cards to include since you know that, at best, you’ll only be able to pull off one of their ultimate strikes.

That’s not to say that the non-GX attacks they offer are bad in fact, these are some of the best cards we’ve seen yet. But with dozens of entries to choose from, which reign supreme? These are the top 10 strongest Pokemon GX trading cards!
