Pikachu Sings The Song

They will be harder to spit than the visual Easter Eggs and homages, but fans should pay just as close attention with their ears as their eyes. The soundtrack to Detective Pikachu regularly incorporated classic songs from both the animated series and the movies, not to mention remixes of the original game soundtrack. The most iconic theme song makes its first appearance backing a CGN news report, but the anthem proclaiming a trainer’s mission to “Catch ‘Em All” returns in a far more… emotional scene.

We can’t say exactly what the song is famous for in the world of the movie, but it’s popular enough for Pikachu to be singing it to himself as he walks sadly down the road after parting ways with Tim. Heartbreaking? Definitely. But it will still be one of the best moments for fans who were singing right along with Ryan Reynolds.

Clifford’s Flareon Is A Dead Giveaway

Since viewers don’t actually know that they’re about to meet Howard Clifford when Tim and Pikachu are ushered into his office, a few key moments pass by without being properly analyzed. For casual fans, it goes without saying that they’ll miss the evolutionary stones Clifford has on his desk, used to force desired evolutions for any number of Pokémon. But they might also miss the blinding light that obscures Clifford entirely when Tim and Pikachu enter the room. That’s the light of a Pokémon evolution… and a major hint that this secret villain is not as he seems.

Only experienced players will appreciate the joke that while Clifford claims to be the most visionary and brilliant expert in “evolving,” he enters the story by unveiling his latest work evolving an Eevee into a glorious Flareon… the agreed-upon WORST Eevee evolution. Officially, any of the other choices–Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon–would have solid cases. More solid than Flareon, confirming there were holes in Clifford’s story.

The Detective Pikachu Pokemon Roster Was Decided By A Mix Of Nostalgia And One Game In Particular According To The Director

The Detective Pikachu movie is bringing the world of Pokemon to life but, try as it might, there was just no way they could include all 807 mon into the hustle and bustle of the franchises first live-action movie. So, how do you go about cutting them down? Well, the Detective Pikachu director has opened up on the process and has also confirmed the number of Pokemon that are in the movie.

In an interview with ET, Rob Letterman explains that one Pokemon game held precedence when it came to whittling down the hundreds-strong roster into a smaller group, and its almost definitely not the one youre probably thinking of.

According to the director, The Detective Pikachu game had a certain grouping that was already baked in. If you havent played the 3DS title, then thats basically shorthand for Pikachu and a supporting cast of the likes of Skorupi, Buneary, and Noviern, who all have roles to play in the plot.

Elsewhere, our good pal nostalgia was brought into the mix and the reasoning is, well, pretty simple: We went to the first-generation Pokémon, the fan favorites, because we wanted to put in the Pokémon that people in their twenties and thirties would remember, the ones they grew up on, the nostalgia of that, outlines Letterman.;

In the trailers, weve already seen the likes of Charizard, Mewtwo, and Psyduck, who all had major parts to play in the anime and formative years of the Pokemon games, so that checks out.

Ryme City Home Of Lots Of Pokemon

The first short look at Ryme City, where humans and Pokemon live together in harmony, is full of Pokemon lurking in backgrounds. Up front we have a Charmander and just behind him, a Dodrio walking around town. Hidden in the crowd in the center of the frame is a Bouffalant. In the air, there looks to be a Pidgeotto swooping around.

Yes That’s A Diplo Cameo

There is no task in Ryme City that a Pokémon can’t handle with added flair, and that includes supplying music for the city’s underground Pokémon battles. A point best proven by the sound system in the Roundhouse fighting arena, when the ‘speakers’ for the DJ are revealed to actually be several Loudred, using their speaker ears not for attacking, but for pounding the electronic music for the clubgoers and fight spectators. But it’s the DJ who will look most familiar.

Yes, that really is Diplo, one of the most successful and influential DJs in the world getting in on the Pokémon action . He’s also a professed fan of dubstep, so when the Loudred are infected by the “craze-inducing” purple drug and produce dubstep as a result, fans can be sure that Diplo is in on the joke.

The Home Alone Gangster Movie

EVERY Pokemon in DETECTIVE PIKACHU

Filling Detective Pikachu with referenced to the show, the games, and even the manga all make perfect sense. But making an overt callback to Home Alone? That’s something truly unexpected, but nevertheless something this film delivers. When Tim first let’s himself into his father’s apartment, he mistakes a movie on the TV for somebody actually waiting for him to enter. And the “detective movie” that Tim brushes off is going to feel eerily familiar to a LOT of viewers.

Officially, the movie is titled Angels With Filthy Souls. But technically, it’s not a movie at all. It was filmed specifically to be used in Home Alone, and the same goes for the sequel,;Angels With Even Filthier Souls. The scene is also the exact same one Kevin watches, in which “Snakes” is sent by “Acey” who apparently “ain’t in charge no more.” It’s a good thing everyone knows how that scene plays out for Snakes.

All The Pokemon You Might Have Missed

All 54 Pokémon in Detective Pikachu

The first trailer for the movie adaptation of Detective Pikachu is upon us, and the way it mixes live-action human actors and computer-generated monsters and animals is definitely a bit of a surprise. Turning cartoon creatures into things that look like they could really exist is always an undertaking and can have mixed results, but in Detective Pikachu, Pokemon seem to be just the right mix of weirdly cute, and just weird.

There are now 809 Pokemon in the world of the games, which means there’s no shortage of creatures to add into Detective Pikachu. While there’s probably no way fans will see every Pokemon receive a real-looking render in the movie, you can still see quite a few possibilities of what Pokemon might look like in real life in the movie’s first trailer.

Fan-favorite starters like Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander make appearances and Mr. Mime and Psyduck get something of starring roles, but there are a few of the more obscure Pokemon scattered around in the backgrounds of plenty of shots, as well.

We’ve poured over the trailer to find all the creatures hidden behind scenery, actors, and other Pokemon. Here’s a look at all the live-action Pokemon Detective Pikachu has produced so far. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the trailer and see the movie’s poster.

    In Other Pokmon Media

Pikachu is one of the main Pokémon used in many of the Pokémon manga series. In Pokémon Adventures, main characters Red and Yellow both train Pikachu, which create an egg that Gold hatches into a Pichu. Other series, including Magical Pokémon Journey and Getto Da Ze also feature Pikachu while other manga series, such as Electric Tale of Pikachu, and Ash & Pikachu, feature the most well known Pikachu belonging to Ketchum in the anime series.

Collectible cards featuring Pikachu have appeared since the initial Pokémon Trading Card Game released in October 1996, including limited edition promotional cards. One of these collectible cards was “Pikachu Illustrator”, limited to about 20-40 printed in 1998, and was auctioned off for about $55,000 in 2016. For the franchise’s 25th anniversary, The Pokémon Company announced special trading cards in 2021, each featuring 25 Pikachu drawn by 25 artists. The character has also been used in promotional merchandising at fast-food chains such as McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King.

    Snorlax Is Blocking The Path

Players of the original Pokémon games will know off by heart that when first trying to travel Route 11, connecting Vermilion City with Lavender Town, they meet their first Snorlax. The giant, hairy, and sound asleep beast is too big to actually move or pass by, and players are instead forced to detour through a nearby cave. But that does that have to do with the movie?

When Tim first arrives in Ryme City one of the very first examples of humans and Pokémon coexisting is the appearance of a Snorlax. One that is, you guessed it, sound asleep in the middle of the road. It’s a direct callback that shouldn’t go unnoticed, even if a traffic redirecting Machamp is doing his best to keep the cars flowing around the snoring obstacle.

    1. PIKACHU

Pikachu may be the iconic face of Pokemon today, but it was almost passed over as the franchise mascot in favour of Clefairy, the pink furball, some 25 years ago.

It was thought that Clefairy would be engaging and would draw people in, but once the animated series began production, the team realised that a yellow central character would be the best for the brand, as it was easy for children to see from a distance.
