Pokémon is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2021 and the franchise hasnt slowed down since Red and Blue. With celebration across all parts of the brand, Pokémon is on everyones minds and is going all-in on nostalgia in the games and in TCG sets coming out this second half of the year.
After this many years with Pokémon, a total of eight generations have been created and theres likely more to come. Legendary Pokemon have always been held up as special. These are the Pokémon everyone wants to get their hands on, whether its in the games or when collecting the cards. The legendary Pokémon are usually designed with a little extra punch and tend to be the strongest out there. Besides legendaries, there are also all the Mythical Pokémon which are usually the rarest Pokemon.

The History Of Legendaries In Pokmon Go
Before we even heard their presence was confirmed in the big Gym rework, we already knew the various Legendaries were in the game.
That’s thanks to some good old-fashioned datamining. NesstendoYT on YouTube was one major player, who dug through the game’s files to discover that the above first generation Legendary Pokémon are indeed listed in the game:
Their absence in the game led to plenty of speculation, particularly with one of the strongest and most famous Legendary Pokémon – Mewtwo – being the focus of one of the game’s first trailers, showing crowds of people teaming up to fight it, whittling down its health as a timer ticks down before capturing the Pokémon in a packed Times Square, suggesting that Mewtwo and other Legendaries could be unlocked through public events rather than random encounters.
That’s since been confirmed of course – but it’s interesting Mewtwo pops up again at the end of the trailer… maybe that’s the Legendary Raid that needs to be tackled in Chicago?
As for Gen 2‘s Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-oh and Celebi, they’ve appeared in datamining efforts, too, with their stats showing up alongside the likes of the birds, Mew and Mewtwo.
These stats reveal them to be among the best Pokémon in our Pokémon Go tier list, with Mewtwo and Ho-Oh having some of the highest base attacks in the game, more so than existing creatures Alakazam and Dragonite.
When did we think Legendaries were coming? The Legendary teases:
Crown Shield Zamazenta And Crown Sword Zacian
Zacian and Zamazenta are Warrior Pokemon, ancient heroes of the Galar region, two halves of the Hero Duo introduced in Generation 8. They worked alongside a human king to save the region from Eternatus, on the calamitous Darkest Day.
When Zacian holds the Rusted Sword in battle, it turns in its Crown Sword form, adding a whole new Pokemon typing to its original form from Fairy, it becomes Fairy-Steel. Similarly, Zamazenta gains the Steel typing when it holds The Rusted Shield, becoming the Fighting-Steel Crowned Shield Zamazenta.
They are the mascot for Gen 8 and have only made a brief appearance in the anime as of now. I cant wait to see how to they animate the Eternatus vs. the Hero Duo during the Darkest Day in Pokemon Master Journeys.

Generation Seven Legendary Pokemon
After a lackluster sixth generation when it comes to legendaries, generation seven had plenty. The Sun and Moon era was long and had Solgaleo and Lunala as its most iconic legendaries. These were the mascots for the two games, but instead of a legendary trio there are the four Island Guardians. They serve as an answer to the Ultra Beasts, which are essentially aliens that are invading Alola. The game also added Necrozma, which had a Kyurem-like ability to merge with either Solgaleo or Lunala to become a stronger version of itself.
Notably, Sun and Moons legendaries also evolve in some cases. Cosmog evolves into Cosmoem, then into either Solgaleo or Lunala. The Ultra Beast Poipole also evolves into Naganadel.

How Legendary Pokmon & Mythical Pokmon Are Different
Legendary Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon might seem similar, but one type requires a lot more real-life legwork on the part of the player.
Legendary Pokémon are some of the most feared and powerful beings in the Pokémon world. There is a second classification of Legendary Pokémon, too, called Mythical Pokémon, and the main difference between the two involves how they are encountered. The discussion of Mythical vs. Legendary Pokémon has softened over the years, as it’s far easier to acquire the former group than it was in the pre-Nintendo DS era.
The original crop of Legendary Pokémon appeared in Pokémon Red and Blue, which included Mewtwo and the three Legendary Birds. It quickly became common knowledge that there was another Legendary Pokémon in the game’s files, called Mew. Since Mew could not be obtained normally in-game, its discovery led to fake methods for acquiring Mew spreading online – rumors and false secrets fondly remembered by old-school fans. The first Pokémon movie involved the Legendary vs. Mythical Pokémon battle that fans had been waiting to see, as Mew battled Mewtwo on the big screen.

Where To Find Landorus In Pokemon Legends: Arceus
To catch Landorus, players will need to have caught or defeated Giratina at the Turnback Cave. Doing so will unlock request #94, which is handed out by Cogita. After accepting the request, players should make their way to Ramanos Island in the Obsidian Fieldlands area. Upon finding Landorus, players will need to hit it with a Poke Ball to lower its shield and then quickly throw a Pokemon at it before it can recover. To switch between the Pokemon’s Incarnate and Therian forms, players will need the Reveal Glass, which is obtained by returning to Cogita after catching Enamorus and completing ten or more of its Pokedex research tasks.
Generation One Legendary Pokemon
The first generation of Pokémon is still the most popular of them all. Everyone who grew up with Pokémon will know this generation by heart, and so will many people who didnt get into Pokémon until recently.
This generation had the original 151 Pokémon, among which four of them are considered legendary. The strongest of them all is Mewtwo, who has been a main character in multiple movies and was effectively the final boss of Red and Blue. The other three legendaries are the legendary birds, including Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos.

Where To Find Enamorus In Pokemon Legends: Arceus
To catch Enamorus, players will need to have caught or defeated Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus. After doing so, they should complete their Pokédex entries and return to Cogita, who’ll then ask them to find the fourth and newest member of the Forces of Nature. Players can then head to the Crimson Mirelands area, where they’ll find Enamorus floating around in the Scarlet Bog. As with the other Forces of Nature, they’ll need to hit it with a Poke Ball to lower its shield before theu can engage it in battle. To switch between the Pokemon’s Incarnate and Therian forms, players will need the Reveal Glass, which is obtained by returning to Cogita after completing ten or more of its Pokedex research tasks.
Generation Two Legendary Pokemon
After a successful first generation, Pokémon got another big boost in the second. While it seemed hard to top the first generation, Gold and Silver are held up among the best games in the series. Some of it has to do with the legendary Pokémon, with Lugia standing as a real fan favorite. The other legendary bird introduced in generation two was Ho-Oh.
Alongside them, legendary trios were cemented as a Pokemon staple with the three legendary dogs. Entei, Suicune, and Raikou. They have many similarities to the bird trio from the first generation and are another big hit for the Pokémon fans.

Generation Six Legendary Pokemon
While generation five had a boatload of legendaries, generation six only had a few. Even though there was a lack of legendary Pokémon, the XY era is still one to remember. The mascot for the Pokémon X game was the majestic Xerneas, the first legendary fairy Pokemon, while the Y game had the dark flying type Yveltal. The third and last legendary Pokémon of the generation was Zygarde, which has a unique forme mechanic that sees it transform from a dog to a giant snake monster to a giant mech-like creature.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is filled with Pokémon, some returning and some exclusive to the Hisui Region, for players to catch and collect. A large number of these Pokémon are legendaries. Most of the legendary Pokémon available in Pokémon Legends: Arceus are only available after players have completed the game’s main story and started a number of Requests tied to the legendaries.

The Sinnoh region introduced many new Legendary & Mythical Pokémon. They range from decent to meta-defining, but which are the strongest?
Generation IV of Pokémon introduced a variety of new creatures to the series. Fourteen Legendary and Mythical Pokémon debuted in the Sinnoh region, marking, at the time, the largest collection of new Legendaries and Mythicals introduced in one region. Where To Find Palkia In Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Players will catch Palkia at the Temple of Sinnoh as part of the main story. To unlock Palkia’s Origin Forme, they’ll need to finish the main story and then find Irida near the Pearl Settlement. If they’re able to beat her in battle, she’ll hand over the Lustrous Globe, which, when used on Palkia, will cause it to transform into its Origine Forme.

Where To Find Dialga In Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Players will catch Dialga at the Temple of Sinnoh as part of the main story. To unlock Dialga’s Origin Forme, they’ll need to finish the main story and then find Adaman on the path connecting Lake Valor and the Diamond Settlement. If they’re able to beat him in battle, he’ll hand over the Adamant Crystal, which, when used on Dialga, will cause it to transform into its Origine Forme.
Can You Trade Legendaries To Other Games
The answer is yes but not all of them. It is a tricky situation because a lot of the old games cant be updated anymore. For example, Mewtwo appeared in the Generation I games Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. While you can get Mewtwo in the later games, there are inter-generational methods where you can trade your Mewtwo from Red to Pokemon Black.
However, it can work differently or not at all for older games. Thats why this Legendary Pokemon list is helpful to give you an idea of which ones appear later or earlier. A player cant trade a Legendary from the later Generations to an older game simply because the copy of the game doesnt have the data of that Pokemon. You cant trade a Generation VI Legendary like Xerneas to the older Generations because it didnt exist back then.
It can be possible to trade it to Generation VII but as of now not VIII. Then theres Generation VIII which is still a fresh game and it doesnt have all Pokemon data yet from the older games and not just Legendary ones hence trading them wont be possible.

Generation Five Legendary Pokemon
The fifth generation of Pokémon, also known as the Black and White era, had way more legendary Pokemon than they should have.
Zekrom and Reshiram were the two video game mascots. Pokemon Black players got Reshiram while rival N got Zekrom, and vice versa in White. Completing the Tao trio was Kyurem, which is the only dragon and ice type legendary Pokémon out there. Kyurem can also merge with either Zekrom or Reshiram to create White or Black Kyurem, both of which stand among the strongest Pokemon in the entire franchise.
Black and White also had two legendary trios of their own, instead of just one. Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion trio are the Swords of Justice trio alongside Keldeo. There is also the Forces of Nature trio with Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus. Rounding out the lineup is four mythicals, all of which are some of the most sought-after in the franchise.

Mythical Vs Legendary Pokemon: Whats The Difference
Mythical and legendary Pokemon are different in terms of their total base stats and how theyre obtained.
Mythical Pokemon uniformly have 600 total base stats. These base stats can be distributed in different ways, but the total is consistent across all mythical Pokemon. Many early mythical Pokemon including Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, and Shaymin had 100 points for all six base stats. Since then, mythicals have had their stats distributed unevenly, making them much stronger than the classic jacks-of-all-trades of past generations.
To compare, sub-legendary Pokemon including Urshifu, Zapdos, and Tapu Koko have base stats that range from 550 to 600. Legendary Pokemon generally have base stats that range from 650 to 700, but there are some exceptions. In a battle of mythical Pokemon vs. legendary Pokemon, legendaries would come out on top in most matchups.
The other key difference between mythicals and legendaries is the method players can use to catch them. Legendary Pokemon are typically special encounters in a Pokemon game, while mythicals are distributed through special events.
Some mythicals that were originally distributed via events are catchable as part of a games story, such as Arceus in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Deoxys in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. But overall, mythicals tend to be much rarer than legendary Pokemon.

There’s a lot of legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Go, and we’ve got the complete list and how to obtain them
There aren’t many Pokemon Go legendaries yet to be added to the game at this point. There are a couple from Gen 5, plus all of the future Pokemon Go generations, but we’re more than halfway through the complete set. We’re expecting Keldeo and Meloetta to be released next because they’re the remaining ones from Gen 5, though Niantic hasn’t shed any light on the next legendaries yet. Anyhow, without further ado, here are all of the Pokemon Go legendaries in the game right now and some tips for catching them.

The Pokemon Go legendaries available are constantly changing, as more get released and the game progresses. Catching all of the legendary Pokemon is a slow burn because not every single one is available at any one point, but we’ve got the full list of legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Go here so you can work out which ones you still need to catch.
Generation Three Legendary Pokemon
In the third generation of Pokémon, the number of legendaries stepped up a notch. Once again, a legendary trio was introduced with the three legendary titans Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. Furthermore, the Eon duo of Latios and Latias were also introduced and became an important part of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as the first properly rideable Pokemon.
If that wasnt enough, both Groudon and Kyogre were introduced as the main Pokémon for the games Ruby and Sapphire. Unlike previous legendaries, they served a critical role in the games story. They were replaced in Emerald by Rayquaza, who will be one of the main focuses of the upcoming TCG set Evolving Skies.

Where To Find Arceus In Pokemon Legends: Arceus
To catch Arceus, players will need to find 239 of the 242 Pokemon that are available in the game and then speak with Professor Laventon. He’ll suggest returning to the Temple of Sinnoh, which can be found at the top of Mount Coronet in the Coronet Highlands area. Once there, players will need to play the Azure Flute to make Arceus appear. They’ll then need to beat it in a Noble Pokemon-style battle, after which, they’ll receive the Legend Plate and the God Pokemon will be added to their lineup.
Pokmon: What’s The Difference Between Legendary & Mythical
The main difference between Legendary Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon is how they’re acquired. Legendary Pokémon are typically encountered over the course of the story in each Pokémon game, with some reserved for post-game encounters or trades between different game versions of a particular generation. Mythical Pokémon can only be encountered through outside means. In the case of Pokémon like Mew or Celebi, the player had to visit real-life events to get the Mythical. When the Pokémon series finally gained internet compatibility, it became possible to download Mythical Pokémon during special events. It wasn’t until very recently that players could encounter Mythical Pokémon in-game, as The Crown Tundra expansion for Sword and Shield allowed encounters with Keldeo, which is normally considered a Mythical Pokémon from Black and White.
It seems The Pokémon Company is experimenting with Mythical Pokémon distribution, as was the case with Meltan’s Pokémon GO-exclusive integration. At the time of writing, Pokémon Sword and Shield only contain a single Mythical Pokémon of their own: Zarude. The Pokémon Company gave fans around the world different methods for downloading it, but it has an alternate form currently locked behind Pokémon movie tickets in Japan. Mythical Pokémon will likely always have strange methods of acquisition, but that’s exactly what makes them special to Pokémon fans.
