What Pokemon Are Shiny Locked

Must read

Shiny Locked Legendary Pokmon Calyrex

WHAT POKEMON ARE & AREN’T SHINY LOCKED IN POKEMON ULTRA SUN AND MOON *No Spoilers*

With these new additions to the list of Pokémon that are shiny locked in the Galar region, the total comes to a steep 37 different Pokémon that cannot be shiny hunted. Many of these are gifts from the;Isle of Armor Diglett adventure, where the player must help locate a slew of missing Diglett. The list also includes every Legendary that is specific to;Sword and Shield’s region, both in the main story and through the expansions. While players might have an opportunity to get these Pokémon as shiny through future game code events, it appears that the shiny locking Legendaries will remain in place for this and any potential future DLC for;Sword and Shield.;

For players hoping to find a shiny Calyrex for a personal Pokémon collection, the shiny lock on the;Crown Tundra DLC might make for a long wait. However, thanks to the Dynamax Adventures and the 210 Pokémon added to;Sword and Shield, there are plenty of returning Pokémon in the;Crown Tundra’s new wild area to hunt and catch as a shiny.;Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s shiny lock can be frustrating for fans who enjoy the thrill of catching a game’s signature Legendary Pokémon, however, having a chance to hunt down a shiny Suicune deep in the Pokémon dens will keep fans plenty busy while waiting for an event or update on shinies for the Galar region’s new Legendray Pokémon.

Gigantamax Pikachu & Gigantamax Eevee

These huge hits were the stars of their own games on the Nintendo Switch, Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! Because of their arrival before the Generation VIII games, Game Freak thought to add a reward in Sword and Shield for players who played both games. If the player has a save file for the Let’s Go games stored on their Switch, then two NPCs will appear in a certain location offering Gigantamax Pokemon as gifts. To find these trainers, go to the Wild Area train station and find the Meetup Spot, where they’ll recognize that you’ve been on a Pokemon journey before and gift you a Pikachu or Eevee, depending on which game data you have saved.

While it’s amazing to see chaunky Pikachu at its full glory, neither Gigantimax-capable fan favorite is capable of being shiny, as they are specifically programmed Pokemon. They also can’t evolve, similar to the starter Pikachu and Eevee from the Let’s Go series.

What Pokmon Are Shiny Locked In Sword & Shield’s Crown Tundra

Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC adds to a growing list of Pokémon that cannot be caught shiny, including the region’s new Legendaries.

The hunt for new Legendary Pokémon has started with;Pokémon Sword and Shield’s release of;The Crown Tundra DLC. The new chapter in the tales of the Galar region brings players to a snowy, troubled town of Freezington. While exploring the mysterious circumstances revolving around the town’s inability to grow healthy crops, the player encounter’s one of three new Legendary Pokémon that has been forgotten in time as a myth by the town’s people. However, like with other recent Legendary Pokémon for Sword and Shield, Calyrex and a list of new Pokémon will not be available for players to catch as shiny in the DLC.

The use of shiny locking Pokémon began in;Pokémon Black and White, and has become a normal restriction in generations since. While the;Crown Tundra adds a list of Legendary Pokémon back into;Sword and Shield’s;expanding Pokédex, Galar’s new additions are unavailable in a shiny variation for players to catch. The use of shiny locking is still something that fans of the games don’t quite understand. There is speculation it is meant to add value to special event Legendaries that can become shiny, like an event for;Pokémon X and Y that allowed players to use a code to obtain shiny Yveltal and Xerneas, both of;which were shiny locked in the original games.

Are Galarian Articuno Zapdos And Moltres Shiny Locked In Pokmon Sword And Shields The Crown Tundra Expansion

Shiny hunters are going to be a bit disappointed.

One of the main attractions within The Crown Tundra expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield is chasing down, battling, and capturing the Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

But a lot of trainers are going to be sad to hear that all three of the new variants of the Kantonian legendary trio are actually shiny locked.;

Being shiny locked means that no matter how many times you restart your game and encounter them, Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will never appear in their shiny variants. This is a huge bummer since the Galarian variants resemble the original, Kantonian trio when theyre shiny.;

This was to be expected, though. Most new legendary Pokémon get shiny locked so that Game Freak can use them for special events and giveaways later on.;

On the bright side, players can encounter shiny variants of nearly every other legendary Pokémon, including the Kanto versions of Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, by completing Dynamax Adventures in the Max Lair.

Only a handful of other Pokémon are shiny locked, including Victini, Keldeo, Cosmog, Poipole, Glastrier, Spectrier, and Calyrex.

Shiny Legendary Pokmon Not Found In Max Lair

Shiny Locked Pokémon
  • Shiny Legendary Pokémon outside of Max Lair: Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regieleki, Regidrago, Regigigas, Cobalion, Virizion, Terrakion

There are only nine Shiny Legendary Pokémon that can be encountered in Crown Tundra that wont be found in a Max Lair. Eight of them are found via traditional static encounters, which means youll trigger a regular battle where youll need to weaken the Pokémon and then throw your Poké Ball of choice.

The exception to this rule is Regigigas, which Ill get to in a moment. For Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion, youll need to encounter them on the overworld. As soon as the encounter begins, youll see if its a Shiny Legendary. If the Pokémon youve found is not in its Shiny Form, simply run away from it.

While there was an initial belief that fainting it would increase the odds of finding it in a subsequent encounter, those factors dont affect Legendary Pokémon, so youre better off just running away to save time. The quickest way to restart the encounter is to open up your menu and set up camp.

In the exact spot the encounter happened, go into your Pokémon Camp. Once you exit out of it, the Pokémon will respawn, and may be a Shiny Legendary that time. You can follow our guide if you need help locating the Legendary Tracks to get these Pokémon to spawn.

What Are Shiny Locked Pokmon

Shiny Locked Pokémon are Pokémon that under no circumstances can ever be a shiny in the Crown Tundra. These specific Pokémon will only be available in shinies from special events or the like, that is all. It is pointless trying to farm these Pokémon for the hope of getting a shiny variant because, at this moment, it’s impossible.

Normally, if you have time and persistence, you can manage to acquire a shiny of a large majority of Pokémon, but there are some that you will never find, no matter how hard you try.

With the new Dynamax Adventures mode acquiring shinies has become an awful lot easier, as the odds have been dramatically reduced. However, some of these Pokémon are not apart of Dynamax Adventures and can only be captured as part of the Crown Tundra story. If you are after a full list of Shiny Legendary Pokémon, we’ve got you covered.

At the moment, there are 10 Pokémon that are shiny locked in the Crown Tundra. Here is the complete list:

Shiny Hunting For Legendary / Stationary Pokmon

POKEMON CROWN TUNDRA DATAMINE! SHINY LOCKED POKEMON / VERSION EXLUSIVE LEGENDARY POKEMON / AND MORE!

Stationary Pokémon are Pokémon standing around in the field, where you can interact with them to initiate a battle with them. Think Snorlax, Sudowoodo, Lugia, Mewtwo, and so on. Theyre not always Legendary Pokémon, but most of the ones worth hunting are. Mechanically, though, theyre the same except for the fact that Legendary Pokémon tend to be much tougher to catch than ordinary stationary Pokémon.

The process for hunting these Pokémon is pretty straightforward position yourself near the trigger to the fight so all you need to do is press A or move forward in order to start the battle after any necessary mashing, load up the fight to see if the Pokémon shines, and then soft reset if it doesnt, reloading your save and trying again. The good news is this can usually be done in about 1530 seconds per attempt, depending on the Pokémon, game, and whether theres cutscenes or excessive dialogue involved.

The Shiny Charm is the only way to improve your odds of getting a Shiny Pokémon this way and it will give you triple the base odds, so its very worthwhile saving these hunts until after you obtain the Shiny Charm. For some Legendary Pokémon, thats just not possible, as you have to fight and/or catch them for storyline purposes.

Keep in mind that some Pokémon are Shiny Locked. Shiny Locked Pokémon cannot be encountered as a Shiny if that particular encounter with them is Shiny Locked.

Heres a list of the Pokémon that are Shiny Locked, by game:

Unlike Shiny Pokémon in the past however, the Shiny Pokémon found in these games have an added bonus: their Belly stat is 200 as opposed to the 100 of normal Pokémon. A Red Gyarados can also be obtained at Level 30 via Wonder Mail password, as a reference to the one found in the Johto-based games.

Shiny Legendaries In Dynamax Adventures

All Pokémon includng Legendaries can be Shiny in Dynamax Adventures. These have a higher Shiny rate as well:

  • Odds for every Pokémon to be Shiny is 1/300 without the Shiny Charm, and 1/100 with the Shiny Charm. Shiny odds are calculated when the Dynamax Adventure ends, just before the selection screen.
  • This means if you catch all four Pokémon in a Dynamax adventure, you have roughly a 4/100 = 1/25 chance for a Shiny.
  • All Shiny Pokémon are Star Shinies.

However, soft-resetting is not feasible you have to do the full Dynamax Adventure to find out if a Pokémon is Shiny or not.

Firstly, you have to battle your way to the Legendary boss and defeat it. After catching it , only on the catch summary screen will you see if it is a Shiny or not.

You can only take one caught Pokémon out of the Dynamax Adventure, so if you do not take the Legendary then it will respawn. Players are limited to catching and taking one of each Legendary per game. As you need to go through the Dynamax Adventure again for your next chance, this may be a timely process.
