How To Catch The Shiny Lake Trio In Pokemon Go

One of the main things you need to remember about the lake trio is the fact that each one is specific to a region.

Azelf can be located in the Americas/Greenland, Mesprit in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India and Uxie in the Asia/Pacific region.

Raids:

All three of these Pokemon will be available in Five-Star Raid Battles for a couple of weeks now, leaving on October 1.

Of course, youll only be able to raid the Lake Guardian thats available in your region at least in person, however, with handy Remote Raid Passes, youll be able to raid the other two in the hopes of getting a Shiny.

There are many channels where you can connect with other trainers who are willing to invite you to remote raids, including Discord, Twitter and my personal choice, this Subreddit.

GO Battle League:

As part of the GO Battle League now, players earn a guaranteed encounter with a Legendary Pokemon the first time they hit level 20 and pick up three wins.

Now Uxie, Azelf and Mesprit are back in raids, they are the reward for hitting level 20 and therefore, a guaranteed shot at getting one of the Shiny Lake Trio.

Just be aware, you will only encounter the Legendary thats available in your region.

Trading:

This one may require a little luck as youll need to find somebody who has either caught duplicate Shiny Lake Guardians or is just willing to trade their single one.

You best hope that you have something great in return!

In The Wild:

Finding A Shiny Ditto In The Wild

One of the biggest changes in the Season of Mischief, which kicked off at the start of September 2021, is that Shiny Ditto will no longer be exclusive to the ticketed Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto Special Research.

This means all Trainers now have the chance to catch a Shiny Ditto in the wild. Doing this wont be easy, though, as Ditto takes on various disguises on the overworld. Check out our Ditto guide for the latest tips.

Its worth pointing out that this is the least likely way youll find a Shiny Ditto, though, and the following two methods will give you a greater chance of encountering one.

Increasing The Chance Of Shiny Pokemon In Pokemon Go

Community Day is an event that occurs once a month in Pokemon Go. During Community Day, a specific Pokemon will increase its spawn rate for a limited time. During this time, the Pokemon will appear much more frequently on the map and the chance to run into a Shiny Pokemon is also increased. Players have reported running into 10-20 Shiny Pokemon per Community Day. For starters, to increase the chance of running into a shiny Pokemon during Comunity Day has a lot to do with tapping to capture the Pokemon. Normally when a player tapes on a Pokemon in the map, it’s expected that they will want to capture the Pokemon. To find more Shiny Pokemon, rather than capturing every Pokemon that appears, run away from combat and move on to the next Pokemon. This allows players to check every Pokemon until finding a shiny one. Also, certain legendary Pokemon can have shiny variants when fighting them in raids. The shiny form will only appear after defeating the Pokemon in battle. Although, its important to know that not every Pokemon in Pokemon Go has a shiny form. To increase the chance of shiny Pokemon appearing during raids, the raid will need to have a full party. Meaning 20 players need to be active in the raid. 1 out of the 20 trainers will be guaranteed a shiny encounter. Shiny Pokemon also have a 100% catch rate. Just make sure not to miss the throws.

Community Days offer trainers a greatly-increased chance of encountering a specific Pokemon, as well as high chances to encounter shiny variants. Once youve done this, youll earn a guaranteed encounter with a Ditto, and Niantic have confirmed that it could be Shiny. Of course, this isnt guaranteed, but its the best chance you have to find one right now.

Fishing For Brilliant Pokmon

You can also find Brilliant Pokémon by fishing in the WildArea. The number of times you’ve battled any one species won’t matter at allfor fishing. Instead, you’ll need to defeat many Pokémon consecutively, nomatter which species appears.

If you keep getting bites and defeating your catches, you’llstart to find more and more Brilliant Pokémon. But bewareif you fail to reel aPokémon in, or if you catch a Pokémon, run away from a Pokémon, leave the area,or turn off your game, then the chain will break. After 25 successful hooks, you’llcap out at over 16 times the initial odds of finding a Brilliant Pokémon, so itcan be quite rewarding to build a big streak.

How To Breed Shiny Pokmon

The Masuda Method is the main way to breed Shiny Pokémon. This method is slightly more involved, as it requires players to first acquire one of the parent Pokémon from another player who is playing the game in a language other than yours, and then breeding it. This makes the resulting Pokémon a whopping six times more likely to be Shiny and brings the odds down to 1 out of 683. With the Shiny Charm, this goes down to 1 out of 512. The easiest thing to do is to trade for a foreign Ditto and then breed with any other Pokémon to have a shot at a non-Ditto Shiny offspring.

Note that this method is still a theory and has therefore not been confirmed in Sword & Shield. The Masuda Method was confirmed with these stats for Pokémon Sun & Moon and is likely to be the same or similar in the new games. However, it’s important to keep in mind that a consensus has not yet been reached.

Unlike Shiny Pokémon in the past however, the Shiny Pokémon found in these games have an added bonus: their Belly stat is 200 as opposed to the 100 of normal Pokémon. A Red Gyarados can also be obtained at Level 30 via Wonder Mail password, as a reference to the one found in the Johto-based games.

You may have heard whispers of the elusive square shinies in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so let us shed some light on the situation. In an effort to add even more longevity to Galar by Game Freak, you can now find two types of shiny Pokemon standard and square. Standard shinies are the shiny Pokemon everyone knows and loves from previous games, while square shinies are brand new.

On paper, for every shiny encounter in the game, it has a 1/16 chance of being a square shiny instead of the standard. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s standard or square by the intro animation the usual stars will be replaced by square outlines, but the difference in colour palette is still the same. Don’t worry, square shinies aren’t a different shade!

It’s not quite as simple as that however. If you follow the chaining method explained above by catching or defeating 25 of the same Pokemon in a row, those 1/16 odds will be flipped. Instead, you’ll have 15/16 odds of finding a square shiny, and just 1/16 of the shiny being standard.

Fleeing Pokemon Breaks Your Combo

Yes, I know I mentioned it before, but seriously, it’s ridiculously frustrating when a Pokemon flees the battle and that counts as breaking your combo. To ensure that you’re going to have the best chance of that not happening, I would stock up with Ultra Balls, make sure you’ve got a pocket full of Razz Berries and never linger too long between Poke Ball throws. It’s also worth remembering, as I’ve mentioned in our Pokemon Let’s Go tips, that a Pokemon can flee at any point during the catching process, whether that’s post berry feeding or mid-throw. It’s worth noting that the higher your combo, the easier the Pokemon is to catch – green rings rather than red – meaning you can drop down to cheaper balls as you go up the combo scale.

Encountering A Shiny Baltoy In Pokemon Go

• Run After Each Encounter: Players don’t need to capture every Baltoy they encounter in order to find a Shiny Baltoy. If it’s not Shiny, just run away and try the next one. This will save tons of time between encounters.
• Incenses: This will increase the spawn rate of all Pokemon in the area. The more Baltoy that spawns, the better chances are for players to find its Shiny form.
• Lure Modules: Similar to Incenses, this item will also increase the spawn rate of all Pokemon in the area. It’s recommended to use this item while playing with a friend, since players can shift the responsibility between who activates the Lure Module.
• Fast Capture Trick: Players looking to collect the double XP, and more Baltoy candy, should use the Fast Catch Trick. This allows players to skip the capturing animation while also providing players with the rewards of capturing the Pokemon.

There is a 1 in 500 chance for players to encounter a Shiny Baltoy in Pokemon Go. There might be a Community Day in the future that can increase these odds but for now, this is the best way for players to find it. For now, it requires a lot of luck and patience.

Star Shiny Versus Square Shiny

The recent generation created a rarer variant of shiny that simply sparkles a little differently with square shapes instead of star shapes. There are actually different methods of shiny hunting to consider depending on if the player wants a square shiny or a star shiny.

Catching a star shiny: All Pokemon that are caught in Dynamax Adventures of the Crown Tundra will be star variants. Star variants are commonly seen from hatched shiny Pokemon, Max Raid Battles, and from Pokemon transferred from previous generations.

Catching a square shiny: Square shiny variants are caught in the wild.

Side Notes On Shiny Pokmon

There are a few last things to know while out hunting shinies in Galar. Dynamaxed Pokémon in Max Raid Battles can be shiny, so players who love to partake in raids in the Wild Area have a chance of finding a Shiny raid boss. Youll be able to see the shiny effects on the enemy model as your facing off against it. By contrast, you wont be able to see if a Pokémon is shiny on the outer world. Although in Pokémon Lets Go we could see whether or not a Pokémon was shiny before trying to catch it, that mechanic did not make it to Sword and Shield. You wont know if a Pokémon is shiny until after you initiate battle.

When hunting Shiny Pokémon, remember that you wont find any Shiny Pokémon that are beyond your catch level. If you find a Pokémon in the Wild Area that is too high a level for you to catch, its okay. That Pokémon will not be Shiny so you wont miss out!

Finally, as of right now, Legendary Pokémon will not be shiny. Although the game will tease you with Shiny legendary sprites and models, its impossible to find these Shiny legendary Pokémon out in the wild. Not one of the three legendary Pokémon in Sword and Shield can be shiny just yet, so dont feel jealous if you see a player with a Shiny legendary. Chances are, theyve hacked their game to make you jealous.

Boosting Your Catch Rate

While not strictly limited to catching shiny Pokemon, this short catching guide will nevertheless help you if youre just starting out. If youre targeting a specific Pokemon, keep in mind that they can be affected by a variety of environmental factors for example, weather and day/night may cause your target to spawn more or less frequently. A Pokemon like Lotad pops up a lot more frequently in Rainy weather, while Duskull is primarily found at night.Be aware that each spawned Pokemon only exists for a certain period of time, anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.

While the Pokemon will never travel from its spawn point, if you fail to catch the Pokemon within that time frame, it will run away. If you stumble upon a shiny while out and about, utilize your Razz Berries and Ultra Balls to heavily increase your chances of catching the Pokemon. If you have a stockpile of Golden Razz Berries, dont feel bad about using them!
