Must read

How Do Tag Team Gx Pokmon Cards Work

TAG TEAM GX POKEMON CARDS inside this TEAM UP BOOSTER BOX OPENING!

Although you may be excited to obtain these cards, you may also be scratching your head wondering how the mechanics behind these cards work? What makes them different from regular GX Pokémon?

First off is their power levels, which as you can see, have once again raised the bar, a trend that the creators of the Pokémon TCG have constantly pushed higher with each and every passing year of the games long and rich history.

Tag Team GX Pokémon, for now, are all basic type GX cards, meaning that you do not need to evolve them before putting them on the play field.

These Pokémon all have exceptionally high HP and would be considered tanks by many players standards.

For example, look at Evee & Snorlax GX who have 270 HP, or Magikarp & Wailord GX who have a whopping 300 HP!

In addition to this, they feature immensely powerful normal and GX attacks. The latter of which, fortunately for your opponents sake can only be used once per match.

With some damage boosting tool cards, many of these Tag Team GX Pokémon can easily be hitting for 250 + damage in a single round, knocking out just about any other Pokémon in the format.

However, we must now discuss an incredibly important drawback that comes with using these insanely powerful Tag Team GX Pokémon.

Arceus & Dialga & Palkia

This trio of legendary pokemon from the Cosmic Eclipse expansion is unique as it is one of the few that houses 3 pokemon instead of 2 and is also one that is better to be played at the beginning of a battle. Such powerhouses are usually saved for the last parts of a battle as a trump card but this trio has some attacks that benefit more from early play.

Their Ultimate Ray is an excellent way to do damage while simultaneously attaching energy cards from the deck directly onto ones Benched pokemon. And their GX attack, Altered Creation, increases damage done by their trainers pokemon for the rest of the battle a serious buff that can start things off to ones advantage.

Those seeking to use this tremendous trio are recommended to include Arceus & Dialga & Palkia in a Dragon-type deck. One that includes Water and Metal energy cards that have access to a way to search for energy so that one can use this GX cards attacks that require a variety of such resources.

Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff

Charizard Pairs With Fire

One of two TAG TEAM trios in the Sun & MoonCosmic Eclipse expansion, Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX has a couple of very interesting attacks. Its regular attack, Rolling Panic, does a base 120 damage, but then you get to flip a coin until you get tails. The attack then does 30 more damage for each heads. If you get a lucky streak going, this attack can be incredibly damaging! On the other hand, the trios Supreme Puff-GX attack doesnt do any damage, but it can put your opponent in a bad situation. For just two Fairy Energy, the GX attack allows you to take an extra turn. But if you have 14 extra Fairy Energy attached, your opponent must shuffle all their Benched Pokémon and all cards attached to them back into the deck. Good luck recovering from that tinypocalypse!

How Do You Get Tag Team Pokemon Cards

There are two ways that you can get your hands on tag team Pokemon cards:

  • Open up a booster pack from a set that features tag team Pokemon cards
  • Purchase the card that you want individually

If you really, really want to get your hands on some tag team Pokemon cards and arent too fussed about how playable the card is in the modern game, then your best bet will be to pick up the Tag Team set. A good chunk of the cards found in that expansion are going to be tag team cards.

Other than this, you will want to look at sets that were launched since Tag Team. Most of these will include GX tag team cards. However, they are going to be a whole lot rarer than your typical Pokemon card. We will take a look at that in a bit more depth soon.

If you regularly pick up Elite Trainer Boxes to boost the number of cards you have at your disposal, you will notice that there is a booklet in there. This booklet will list all cards in that particular set. This will let you know whether you can get tag team cards in it or not.

Of course, you can also carry out a quick Google search to know whether tag team cards will be included in the set.

Florges / Lillies Pok Doll

The decks strategy is pretty simple: always have Lillies Poké Doll as your ActivePokémon, and make sure nothing can affect your Bench. If it werent for theactive discard offered by Bellelba & Brycen-Man, this strategy wouldnthave a chance of winning games in time. Its a slightly more one-dimensionalapplication than the TAG TEAM Supporters have offered to other decks, but itscertainly no less important. Bellelba & Brycen-Mans optional effect ispretty interesting, but it doesnt usually have much impact on the strategiesenabled by the discard. Thats not to say Florges doesnt find spots to use it,because it certainly can happen, but it isnt exactly an integral part of thestrategy. It is a powerful effect, though, so I look forward to seeing whathappens in the future.

There havent been any major events in the Expanded format since Sun & MoonCosmicEclipse arrived, but with a few Expanded Regionals on the horizon, it willbe interesting to see what emerges. My initial feeling is that most of these TAGTEAM Supporters will be sidelined for those eventsCynthia & Caitlin,Mallow & Lana, and Red & Blue are simply too slow for the format oroutclassed by Expanded-only Item cards with similar effects. Guzma & Halacould enable some crazy combos, as could Misty & Loreleiimagineback-to-back Towering Splash-GX attacks from Magikarp & Wailord-GX!and there isdefinitely exciting potential to explore.

Lucario & Melmetal Gx

Type: Steel

Lucario and Melmetal have a solid HP total of 260, a resistance to Psychic, and three great moves that can all benefit from a Double Colorless. Steel Fist is a great opening shot, landing a modest 50 damage but attaching a Steel energy from your deck to Lucario, quickly building for your next move. Heavy Impact simply lands 150, but if all goes well, you can use it on turn two .

Plus, Full Metal Wall offers a lasting shield. It doesnt deal damage, but only needs one energy and reduces the pain your Steel-types suffer by 30 for the rest of the match! Additionally, by having just one extra energy attached, you discard all energy from your opponents active Pokemon, ensuring theyre ill-prepared to counter your fierce assault.

Ramp, damage, and defense all in one, Lucario and Melmetal remain the best tag-team yet.

Exclusive: Pokemon Tcg Explains Pokemon Tag Team Pairings In Unified Minds Expansion

The Pokemon Trading Card Gamerecently added powerful new Tag Team cards, but some questions remain about how Pokemon are chosen to appear on these cards. While normal Pokemon cards only represent one Pokemon, the Tag Team-GX cards represent a pair of two Pokemon whose combined moves do more damage than even the most powerful normal Pokemon cards. These cards are literal game-changers, but they come at a cost. Losing one of your Tag Team-GX cards in battle costs a player three prizes instead of the usual one or two, which amounts to half your prize count and is often the difference between victory and defeat.

To find out more about how these Tag Team-GX cards are conceived, ComicBook.com spoke with Atsushi Nagashima, the Game Director of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, and Pokemon Trading Card illustrator Mitsuhiro Arita via email about how they decided on which Pokemon to include in Tag Team-GX cards for the upcoming Unified Minds expansion of the game. The new cards include powerful duos like Mewtwo & Mew and Espeon & Deoxys, along with more unusual pairings like Psyduck & Slowpoke. Scroll down to get a look at the cards along with explanations from Nagashima and Arita about why these particular Pokemon were chosen for these cards.

    How To Play Tag

Tag-team cards are quickly proving a staple with their chancy but rewarding nature, offering insane power if youre willing to gamble three prizes. Play them late into the game where those added prizes wont matter, or simply keep them alive with proper healing/retreating to avoid their loss.

Todays units stem from the Tag-Team and Unbroken Bond sets, and you can examine more alliances with the older Legend cards . But for now, as we eagerly await Nintendos next batch of powerful partners, vote for your favorite tag-team and Ill see you at our next Pokemon countdown!

    Pheromosa & Buzzwole Gx

    Type: Grass

No resistance here isnt great, but Pheromosas duo has a nice retreat of two, making escape possible. Jet Punch is rather weak at just 30, but it also inflicts 30 to a benched enemy and can be accessed with just one energy.

Elegant Sole scores a great 190 for three, but its power becomes 60 when used consecutively, so try to rotate your attacks. GX move Beast Game only hits for 50, but lets you take an extra prize card when you knock an enemy out, or three extra if you have at least seven extra energy attached! Thats four prizes at once, but getting those eight energy wont be easy.

    Latias & Latios GX

    Gardevoir & Sylveon Gx

    Type: Fairy

Gardervoirs alliance is a well-rounded card with plenty to love. You have a nice 260 HP, low retreat cost, resistance to Dark, and three great attacks.

Fairy Song only needs one energy and attaches up to two Fairy energy from your deck to your benched Pokemon, a nice early ramp. Kaleidostorm needs three energy and sadly doesnt have enough slots for a Double Colorless, but nets a solid 150 while letting you rearrange energy throughout your team as you like. This helps build for GX attack Magical Miracle, which lands 200, and if you have three extra energy, forces your opponent to shuffle their entire hand into their deck, a brutal add-on that literally leaves them empty-handed.

Then, once youve harnessed your ultimate, rearrange your energy again with Kaleidostorm to spread the spares throughout your party, ensuring your surplus is put to good use.

    Lucario & Melmetal GX

    Lucario And Melmetal Gx

Opening a Pikachu and Zekrom Tag Team GX Tin of Pokemon Cards!

Its always fun to see one of Pokémons best visual designs with one of its worst, and Lucario teamed up with Melmetal is a perfect example of that amusing disconnect. Still, its an excellent recent card with a very good defense ability in Full Metal Wall GX, to the point where its one of those cards you could pratically build a deck around. Or just imagine the bizarre buddy comedy between Nutblob and the Kung-Fu Fox, its up to you.

Pokmon Tcg Hidden Fates Expansion Introduces Tag Team Trio

The Hidden Fates set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game is introducing a triple tag team card with Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos fighting together.

The Pokémon Trading Card Gameis receiving its first triple tag team, allowing for the games original three Legendary birds to fight alongside each other in the latest Hidden Fates expansion for the game.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game added a new type of card in the Team Up expansion called the Tag Team Pokémon-GX cards. These cards involved two Pokémon working together in a single card, which meant that they had strong moves and higher HP than regular cards, with the caveat that their defeat would result in the opposing player winning three Prize cards instead of one. The fact that a Pokémon Trading Card Gamematch only uses six Prize cards means that its risky to use two Tag Team Pokémon-GX cards. The GX in the name refers to a mechanic shared by all Tag Team Pokémon-GX cards, as they all have access to an extremely powerful GX move, but only one GX move can be used throughout the entire battle.

How Do Tag Team Pokemon Cards Work

For the most part, tag team cards work in much the same way as a typical Pokemon card. They are just a slightly more powerful card. You will be able to have a maximum of 4 of each card in your deck.

While most people think Pokemon tag team cards only feature Pokemon, they also come in a trainer, supporter, and special energy varieties. Again, you will be limited to a maximum of four each in a deck.

These cards will work in much the same way as your typical trainer, support, and special energy cards. Just read the instructions on the card and it will tell you exactly what you need to do.

If you have a tag team Pokemon card, then they will always be basic GX cards i.e. you will be able to place them directly onto the table. You do not need to evolve a Pokemon into a basic GX card. Because these tag team Pokemon are going to be a lot more powerful than your typical Pokemon card, there will be a few special rules attached to them.

For starters, each GX card will have a GX move attached to it. This is an incredibly powerful move that will often take a good few energy cards to power up. This move can knock out virtually any Pokemon on the field, or it will often have an effect that can be used to draw cards, etc.

There is a further rule tied to tag team GX cards, though. Because these are way more powerful than normal GX cards, there has to be a special prize for knocking them out.
