What Are Normal Pokemon Weak To

Must read

They End Up Being The Weakest Of The Early Route Pokmon

FULL 4X WEAK TO NORMAL TYPE POKEMON MOVES TEAM!

It doesn’t take long for trainers before they meet their first Normal-Type Pokémon, since a lot of them tend to hang out on the early routes of whatever region they live in, a lot of which end up being rodents and birds, like Rattata and Pidgey. Unfortunately, they also tend to be the Pokémon trainers swap out of their party early on too.

While these Pokémon might be decent for trainers that are just starting out, they tend to be on the weak side and don’t last in the long run against tougher opponents, making them easily replaceable. In the case of the aforementioned rodent Pokémon, they also tend to fully evolve rather quickly too.

Historical Changes To Pokmon Types In Mainline Pokmon Games

When using the type chart for older mainline Pokémon games bear in mind that the following changes were made to the type system. These changes applied to all subsequent games, including remake titles

Generation 6

  • Fairy type added
  • Ghost and Dark-type moves made neutral against Steel

Generation 2

  • Dark and Steel types added
  • Bug-type moves made ineffective against Poison
  • Poison-type moves made neutral against Bug
  • Ice types made not very effective against Fire
  • A programming bug that made the Ghost-type move Lick ineffective against Psychic Pokémon was fixed

With the addition of new types over the years, the Pokémon type system has got a little more complicated than Rock-Paper-Scissors, but once you’ve committed the above to memory , you’ll have no problem finding the right Pokémon for the right job.

How This Affects Pokmon With Multiple Types

As I mentioned before, some Pokémon will have multiples types, and this table gets even more tricky to understand once you start looking at how interactions like that work. The good news is there’s a pretty simple way to break it down.

All modifiers for damage by a particular attack are calculated together when it comes to dealing with Pokémon that have multiple types.

For example, if you use a Flying attack against a Pokémon with both Bug and Grass types, it would do four times as much damage, since Flying attacks usually do double damage to each type.

Following in the pattern, if you were to use a Ground attack against a Pokémon with both Bug and Grass types, it would do 1/4 of the damage, since ground attack normally would do 1/2 damage to each type.

Pokemon Fighting Type Weaknesses & Counters

fighting

Fighting type Pokemon have three main weaknesses: Fairy, Flying, and Psychic. Youll want to use one of these if youre trying to deal with a martial foe.

That means youll want to use strong Pokemon of those type.

  • Fairy: If you have them, use Togekiss, Gardevoir, Granbull, Clefable, or Mr. Mime. A number of these Pokemon double up on the weakness via a combination of the two types. Mr. Mime is both Psychic and Fairy, for example, giving you even more potential super effective moves.
  • Flying: You may not have them, but the most powerful Flying type Pokemon are Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Dragonite, Salamence, and Lugia. If you want to double up, one of the Fairy types will do just fine like Togekiss or the aforementioned Lugia who is Flying and Psychic.
  • Psychic: Mewtwo is obviously king here, but barring that, go for Deoxys, Alakazam, Espeon, or Latios. Crucially, you should avoid Metagross despite how strong it is. The Steel type will leave it vulnerable to Fighting attacks.

Fairy Type Is The Bane Of Dragon Type

With plenty of resistances and only a couple of weaknesses, dragon types used to be on top of the world and nearly unstoppable. That is, until Pokémons sixth-generation added fairy type to its roster, bringing the mighty dragons down a peg with them as their new weakness. However, it is a little strange that fairies turned out to be the bane of dragon types.

Fairies are usually depicted as small and cute creatures, and a lot of the Pokémon under this type definitely fit that mold. And fairies dont typically beat dragons in fantasy stories, so it seems like a stretch for Pokémon like Jigglypuff or Slurpuff to be so effective against intimidating foes like Dragonite and Salamence.

A Lot Of Them Have Painfully Average Stats

In some cases, stats are the deciding factor in whether or not a trainer will keep a Pokémon on their team or swap them out for another. Sadly for Normal-Types, a large portion of them tend to be limited when it comes to stats. It’s not necessarily that they’re bad, it’d be more accurate to call their stats “average.”

Thankfully, this isn’t the case for every single Normal-Type. Some like Snorlax and Blissey are known to have core strengths, but there are many Pokémon, like Spinda for example, who just don’t excel at anything. Not exactly weak, but not exactly strong either.

Pokemon Go: Every Type’s Weakness

Pokemon GO shares the rock-paper-scissors nature of the mainline series when it comes to combat, but it can be tricky to remember all of the elemental type advantages with so many types in play at once.

Niantic has fortunately provided a helpful article on its official Pokemon GO site to remind its players what weaknesses and resistances are out there. Since the game’s inclusion of Fairy-type Pokemon and moves, Pokemon GO is now up-to-date with its type effectiveness alongside the current titles in the franchise such as Pokemon Sword & Shield.

Super-effective damage is vital to trainers’ combat capabilities, as taking advantage of type weaknesses is a core concept in Pokemon GO.

Dont Bother: Its Not Very Effective

Pokemon {Complete AMV MEP} Normal Type – Weak

As weve seen, then, when it comes to Normal STAB, your goal is to break through using brute Attack or Special Attack alone. Nothing at all is weak to Normal moves. Not unless youre playing Inverse Battles in Pokémon X and Y, and lets be honest with ourselves: nobody is playing Inverse Battles in Pokémon X and Y.

The issue with simply spamming the strongest Normal STAB you can muster is this: lots of opponents can stop that nonsense right away. Steel and Rock both resist Normal, while Ghost is totally immune to it . A second STAB from a dual typing is often needed to alleviate this problem, which defies the whole point of having a Normal-type in this context.

STRONG AGAINST

Normal Type Pokemon

Among the species, normal-type Pokémon tend to look like a variety of animals from the real world. In general, normal types do not combine, except for flight, to represent standard bird species. Over the generations, more and more normal types have been introduced, which also represent other types. In each generation, there was a species of pure Normal type in nature on the first path through which they encountered wild Pokémon.

The Normal type has been specifically designed to have no offensive or defensive advantage: offensively, it does not hit any type super efficiently, but two types resist it and one does not protect it. while a boy hits him superbly. Normal defensive types would generally have high defensive statistics, while normal offensive types would generally learn a wide variety of movements.

Important: They Have Stab On Some Great Moves

So, yes. Its definitely not an easy life, being a super-strong Normal-type that just wants to claim some souls. However, these Pokémon do have one huge advantage on their side: Normal type gain a STAB bonus on some very, very powerful attacks.

From the darn useful priority move Extreme Speed to the formidable special move Boomburst and even the horrifyingly strong Explosion, Normal moves are some of the strongest around. Pokémon like Staraptor can find great success simply firing off Double-Edge until the recoil takes them out, hopefully having severely dented the opponents team in the process.

Pokemon Type Weakness

In the games, Dragon types are only weak against Ice and Dragon type moves. They are also highly resistant to Fire, Electric, Grass and Water type moves, with all four being featured as the starting Pokémons types in the first Generation. Dragon attacks cannot hurt it and Fairy attacks are super-effective against it.

Important: They Can Slot Super Easily Into Teams

While youre making your merry way through a new Pokémon game and nabbing the critters you most like the look of, youll usually face a team-building problem: redundant typings. Of course, for the story, you can use just about anything, but its not very practical to have two or three Fire-types in your team of six.

What youll often have to do is switch something out. When it comes to Normal types, though, thats less of an issue, as you dont lose a lot of coverage or compound weaknesses much by adding a Normal-type. You still dont want four of them, but Normal Pokémon can slot nicely into a team without affecting much. Their dual typings help with that too.

Pokemon Type Weaknesses And Strengths Chart Explained

Despite the table above, there is actually much more to type effectiveness than meets the eye. For example:

  • Super effective moves will deal double the damage, whereas weak moves will deal half. There are also a few moves that will deal no damage at all, such as normal-type attacks against ghost-types.
  • Dual-types also play an important role. Dual-type Pokemon, as the name suggests, have two types. If the move you are using is effective against both the opposing Pokemons typing, it will deal 4x the damage. Conversely, if the move is weak against both, then it will be just 1/4 of the overall damage.

The best example of a super-effective type attack is using a water attack against a rock and/or ground type. In this instance, Geodude would be 4x more susceptible against any water Pokemon attacks directed at it.

The opposite of this would occur when a Fairy-type move is used a mon like Heatran, which is a dual steel/fire-type. This would result in just 1/4 of the damage.

Learning all of these strengths and weaknesses will undoubtedly take time, but utilizing our guide here when in doubt will help you on your way to becoming Galars number one trainer in the region!

Dont Bother: The Most Notable Normal

Prior to the launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield, Wooloo was one of the most hype-tastic Pokémon around. It still is , but if we can be brutally real for a moment, it isnt actually any good, is it?

As with a lot of its Normal-type brethren, Wooloo and Dubwool proved to be early game Pokémon that the player drops in favor of something better. This has been the case since the days of Pidgey and Rattata, and its probably always going to be.

What Is Weak To What

Pokemon Go – “Normal does not mean weak”

If youre here, you probably dont know the type weaknesses and resistances. Also, maybe you dont know that when a pokmon uses an attack of its type, like if an elecrtic pokmon uses an electric attack, the damage is multiplied by 1.5. Well, here are the types:

Normal is a plain type. Some people say its useless, but others say its great. Id say Normal type pokmon are good, many of them have good status and they have only one weakness, Fighting, and are competely immune to Ghost, although they resist no other type. Normal type attacks, however, are not as good. No type is weak to them, but Ghost is immune to Normal and Rock and Steel resist it. But Normal attacks can be the solution to your problems anyway, as most pokmon can learn Normal attacks and many of them are strong. The Normal type is a physical type, so all Normal attacks are counted as physical attacks.

Fire is a hot type. Fire is a powerful type that should be on every team. Scizor and Forretress, both very common in teams, are only weak to Fire. Fire is super effective on Bug, Steel, Grass and Ice and is not very effective on Fire, Water, Rock and Dragon. No type is immune to Fire. Water, Rock and Ground are super effective on Fire pokmon and Fire, Grass, Bug, Ice and Steel are not very effective on them. The Fire type is a special type, so all Fire attacks are counted as special attacks.

Pokemon Go Type Chart: Strengths Effectiveness Weaknesses And Resistances Explained

In Pokemon Go, Every type of Pokemon has four different relationships with other types any trainer should be aware of. That is:

  • Strong Against: represented on our type chart as Strong Vs, attacks from the listed type against the type listed here will deal additional damage to your opponent. This is ‘Super Effective’.
  • Weak Against: represented here as Weak Vs, attacks from the listed type against these types will do less damage to the enemy. This is ‘Not very effective…’
  • Resistance: listed as resist, taking attacks from this type will do much less damage to you.
  • Vulnerable: your type’s weaknesses. Attacks of these types will deal more damage – watch out!

So, for instance, Offensively a Ground-type Pokemon/move is Strong against Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire and Electric types, dealing double damage to them. It only does 50% damage against Flying, Bug and Grass Pokemon. Defensively, that same Ground-type Pokemon will take reduced damage from Poison, Rock and Electric Pokemon but also take double damage from Water, Grass and Ice – which is vulnerable to.

With that explained, let’s get into the Pokemon Go type chart in full.

How do type matchups work?

While the Pokémon franchise has evolved significantly since the release of Red and Blue, one mechanic has always stayed the same: type advantage. This rock-paper-scissors style of combat is responsible for much of the series depth and strategy.

Each Pokémon and move has its own type that affects the amount of damage it deals to an opposing Pokémon. Moves that are effective against an opposing Pokémons type result in increased damage, while moves that arent effective against the same Pokémon result in decreased damage.

No Concept Of Immunities/no Effect

Every attack in Pokémon GO damages an opposing monster in the mainline games, a small number of type matchups actually result in no damage i.e. immunity, usually with the message X has no effect. These matchups are:

  • Normal and Fighting immune to Ghost
  • Flying immune to Ground
  • Ghost immune to Normal and Fighting
  • Fairy immune to Dragon

These special cases still exist in Pokémon GO, however, they do around a third normal damagerather than doing no damage at all. In our type chart, these type immunities are bolded and placed in square brackets. REMEMBER – in the mainline games like Pokémon Sword and Shield, these attacks will have no effect whatsoever!

Important: Their Lack Of Weaknesses

Pokemon Weakness Strength Flash Cards.pdf

The first and most obvious point in Normal-types favor is that they have only a single weakness: Fighting. Couple this with the fact that theyre completely immune to Ghost-type attacks , and youve got a huge asset on your side.

Fighting-types are very common, theres no doubt about that, but a single weakness is much easier for the rest of your team to prepare for and cover.

What’s Good Against Normal Pokemon

Battling against normal Pokemon can be surprisingly hard! Whitney’s miltank is the stuff of nightmares for many trainers!

They’re very common early on in the game and can wear you down if you’re not equipped with plenty of potions.

Normal type Pokemon tend to have very high hit points compared to other Pokemon but the rest of their stats rank relatively low.
