A Beginner’s Guide to Typings in PVP…
With the recent addition of PVP Trainer battles and the changes to how Type effectiveness works in Pokémon GO battles, I thought it was time to see which are the best counters by type that you can have for each Pokémon League. In order to do this and not break the brain-bank, I will be doing an analysis like this for each individual League, starting with the Master League.

Things To Know About Putting Together An Master League Team In Pokmon Go
No CP limits means you have the most amount of freedom here of any League team, and though the Best Pokémon by and large do well here, the meta means there are certain creatures which will do better than others based on what everyone else is choosing.
The reliable staples of starter Community Day Pokémon are much less effective here than other leagues as a result, but others who have been highlighted have evolutions and exclusive moves that can really help you, if you were around at the time.
Though CP isn’t everything in this league – above all, you want to go with types which suit the meta – maximising the power of your chosen team can give you a slight advantage. There’s a couple of ways to make this cost effective – from performing Lucky Trades to halve their Stardust costs and having them as your Best Friend to give them a CP boost while they’re your buddy.
And, the higher Trainer Level you are, the higher the CP cap grows. That said, there are diminishing returns of this final point – with Stardust and Candy costs going through the roof for very little CP gain as you reach its cap – so don’t get hung up on this in particular.
As always – no matter what League you participate in, you are after Pokémon with a decent amount of bulk and those that best counter or expose weaknesses in the current meta .
The Best Pokmon To Use For Master League In Pokmon Go
To win these Pokémon GO battles, use these Pokémon with these move sets.
- Dialga: Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor.
- Ho-Oh: Incinerate and Brave Bird.
- Lugia: Dragon Tail and Sky Attack.
- Mewtwo: Psycho Cut and Psystrike.
- Origin Forme Giratina: Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball.
- Palkia: Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor.
- Yveltal: Snarl and Dark Pulse.
The metagame constantly shifts with new Pokémon being introduced into Pokémon Go. Trainers are able to collect five tiers of rewards depending on how well they perform in a string of battles. The longer the win streak, the better rewards will be given at the end of the battle. At the very bottom of the PvP page, trainers can also keep track of their wins, battles, streaks, and how much Stardust they have earned. Since Stardust has the ability to make Pokémon stronger in battle, it’s recommended to participate in as much PvP as possible. It’s an excellent way to grind for Pokemon Go’s Stardust without having to leave the house.
Pokémon Go is available now on iOS and Android.

The Master League Analysis
The Master League is highest league available to participate in in Pokémon GO. There are no CP limits as to what you can use, and is easily one of the more predictable leagues you can participate in considering that most Trainers tend to use the same counters, however, lets see if that changes here.
Best Master League Lead Pokemon
When anything goes, it’s hard to judge the best way to start. Usually you’d attempt to force your opponent to use their shields as fast as you can, while saving your own, but sometimes bulky Pokemon who apply pressure a different way are the better option.
We’ve gone with four Pokemon roughly split evenly between the two strategies, and which are perhaps the best leads in the game.
Fast Moves are in normal text, Charge Moves in italic.
Resistant means that the Pokemon takes less damage from moves of that type.
Weak means that the Pokemon takes more damage from moves of that type.
Shadow Mamoswine and Shadow Raikou are much better options here than their regular versions, purely because you’ll deal more damage more quickly. As rapid spammy options, this is crucial.

Using The Move Rankings
Each Pokemon has a pool of Fast Moves and a pool of Charged Moves. Some moves might be better in one battle, and other moves might be better in another. For Trainer Battles, you’ll want know which moves will be the best ones to have in the most matchups. You might also want to know which Pokemon are the best candidates for a second Charged Move. The move details within each Pokemon ranking can help you determine that.
Moves are ranked using calculations primarily based on their damage and energy cost. Stat changes are also factored in. These calculations are run for each matchup, and then totaled across the format. Matchup weighting affects these numbers as well, so moves that would be used against significant meta targets will rank higher.
When looking at potential moves, keep an eye out for Pokemon that have a strong tendency toward a single Fast Move and a single Charged Move. These Pokemon will have their optimal moveset in the most matchups. On the other hand, some Pokemon see more balanced usage in their Charged Moves. This is where having a second Charged Move comes into play.
As an exercise, select any one Pokemon in the Team Builder tool and compare its battle histograms when it has one Charged Move and when it has two. If a second Charged Move improves its matchups, it might be one worth investing in.

Snorlax Zacian And Garchomp
For this team we will focus on highlighting the shadow version of Snorlax as the Lead Pokémon. Snorlax is an exceptionally robust choice, making it difficult to attack because its only weak to Fighting-type moves, and it has a solid moveset that can ensure it does a decent amount of damage throughout the battle. To back it up, were going to recommend one of the newest legendary Pokémon, Zacian in its hero form, and Garchomp.
- Snorlax : Lick , superpower, and body slam
- Zacian : Snarl , play rough, and close combat
- Garchomp: Mud shot , outrage, and earth power

Genesect Milotic And Togekiss
Another option were going to recommend is Genesect with a burn drive, a mythical Pokémon that hasnt been around for a few months. Genesect is one of the rare Bug-type Pokémon that you can actively see in a handful of the PvP competitions in Pokémon Go, and this Pokémons Steel-type does quite a bit to assist it. To back it up, were going to recommend you place Milotic in the Switch slot and have Togekiss as your Closer.
- Genesect : Fury cutter , x-scissor, and techno blast
- Milotic: Dragon tail , surf, and blizzard
- Togekiss Charm , ancient power, and flamethrower
Pokemon Go: Master League Tier List
The Master League is where trainers can break out strong legendaries and mythicals in Pokemon GO.
Unlike the Ultra and Great Leagues, the Master League has no CP cap and any Pokemon can be used. Some familiar faces never seem to lose popularity in this format, such as Giratina Origin and Dialga. Ever since the mascots from Pokemon Sword and Shield were added, however, the meta has been shaken up a bit.

Pokemon Go Best Meta Pokemon For Master League
If youre looking to bring the pain to your opponents in the Master League, there are three Pokemon that youll want to make sure that you have on your team, with a specific set of attacks that come along with them. Youll be blasting opponents away in no time if you are using them, so lets get into the discussion.
Youll want to lead off your round using Zacian, as they can take and deal a large amount of damage, and as long as you have the attacks Snarl, Close Combat, and Play Rough, youll be able to take on just about anything that a team throws at you. Play Rough 37.2 DPS, making it a very effective move to use against anyone, allowing you to whittle away at your opponents health bar rapidly.
However, if youre looking to truly bring the power to these matches, youll want to use Dialga, with a pairing of the attacks Dragon Breath, Iron Head, and Thunder, so youll have an attack that will bring down anything Pokemon that your opponent brings to the field. Iron Head and Thunder bring a great amount of DPS, averaging 37.9 and 41.7, respectively so youll be able to knock out just about anything quickly with these two moves in tow.
Using these Pokemon, and switching them out at the right spots, can almost always guarantee a victory. All of them are quite powerful, but paired together, offer a great team with little chance of failure. Keep practicing with them, and find your rhythm, and youll have an unstoppable team in no time.
