Holographic Dark Charizard Card Value

Japanese Basic Charizard Holo No Rarity Symbol

Everything You Need To Know About Crystal Charizard Skyridge Holo Pokémon Card | Price & Pop Report
  • Release Date: 1996

Those familiar with Pokemon cards will notice two things about this card: First, its the original, classic Base Set Charizard card, and second, its a Japanese edition. What really makes this card special is that its a misprint.

The card is considered a No Rarity Symbol card from the Japanese Base Set. These were later updated to include the missing symbols, so collectors could attest to the rarity of their cards. However, the fact that some cards existed without rarity symbols made them incredibly rare themselves and caused their value to skyrocket.

Naturally, the version of the already legendary Charizard card would become the most sought-after. Despite being a misprint, this card was even rarer than the re-printed version, meaning collectors fell over themselves to snag one.

Pokmon Game #4 Charizard Holo

Average Value in PSA 10: $23,224

As the de facto face of Pokémon, much has been said of the iconic 1st Edition Holographic Charizard. Maybe its the spectacular artwork. Maybe its because Charizard has been a popular, powerful character since the inception of the franchise. Whatever the case may be, the card that has been likened to the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card of the Pokémon realm is, without a doubt, the most desirable of the set. In PSA 10, the card has sold for as high as $40k and regularly commands values in the $20k range.

What About Your Cards

The regular Charizard card might be worth around £300, Dan, from trading cards and collectibles shop Game HQ, tells Newsbeat.

Most cards that people have will be the mass-produced ones so they wont be worth as much, but they can still be worth a lot of money as long as the cards are in good condition.

It might be time to ask your mum to dig out your old stuff, but if you do, which ones should you look out for?

Not surprisingly, the Charizard is the most desirable of the Korean first edition series.

Best Pokemon Charizard Card: 1999 Charizard Pokemon Base 1st Edition #4

Take PSA 10 copies of the 1999 base card. They were selling for roughly $9,000 in 2016, tripling in price over the next few years. For example, the most recent gem mint copy sold for $36,110.54, in December 2019. Thats a massive rise, which makes sense given the small supply.

Pokemon continues to refresh the lineup for a new generation of kids every few years or so, but they always find space for their top moneymakers. Charizard is no different, with viable options found 20 years after the original release.

Charizard Pokemon 1st Edition Shadowless Base Set

  • Release Date: 1999

This was the Pokemon card that every kid who grew up in the 90s wanted, as Charizard was the king of the original base set. Those who had this card became legends of the playground, and their reluctance to trade it, coupled with its rarity, only added to its legend.

The card was also incredibly powerful, too, and when it was removed from the deck, most opponents knew they had a difficult task ahead of them. In 2020, rapper Logic paid over $226k for a 1st Edition Charizard, setting a new bar for the Pokemon cards value.

However, in 2022, the card sold for an unbelievable $420,000 at auction. According to the auction house, only 121 Charizards in the whole world are known to exist with the perfect Gem Mint 10 rating making this one of the most valuable TCG collectibles of all time.

How Can You Tell If A Charizard Card Is Rare

Great question! This is exactly the kind of assessment you should be making before investing in a Charizard card. Generally speaking, older Charizard cards are rare and valuable as they are many years out of print. However, card condition plays a massive role. Grading companies help with this by assessing the state of the card out of 10. The better the condition, the rarer the card. They also have population reports which tell you how many cards have achieved a particular grade . Again, this is really useful for understanding how rare a Charizard card is. For more information about grading see here.

Pokemon Portuguese First Edition Charizard

Sold in April, 2021 for $44,850

Only two Portuguese first edition Charizards have ever been graded PSA 10 out of the 34 submitted to PSA as of this writing.

Just two…

Given how the market for Pokemon cards has soared recently and the scarcity of this card in PSA 10 condition, I’m surprised this didn’t sell for an even higher price.

Still, $44,850 is impressive and speaks to the strength of the Pokemon brand and the Charizard character, in particular.

There are hundreds of Bandai carddass Pokemon cards to collect, but the most desirable of them all is the prism Charizard followed by Blastoise.

In one of the earliest appearances of the iconic character, Charizard roars and breathes fire, creating an image that really pops.

The 2006 card from the EX Dragon Frontiers set featured a holographic shiny Charizard. It sold for an astonishing $9,000, which isn’t surprising considering the card was PSA 10 graded and featured a black Charizard.

Error Or Misprinted Charizard Cards

Ive seen many Error Pokemon cards through my years of collecting and I guarantee that Charizard cards have the least amount of errors on them.

Why? Because the combination of high demand for Charizard and the fact many collectors love errors makes these incredibly hard to find when they do come around.

Whether the card is off-center or its entirely an error with a missing print or upside down back, the card will bring a nice premium. If you think you have a misprinted card, check out this extensive guide we wrote all about error Pokemon cards.

Charizard error cards are rare, and they are usually minor. Error cards will typically be worth 2 to 3 times over their typical value depending on if you find the right buyer.
