Giovanni has returned to Pokémon Go, and for November 2021, hes captured shadow Lugia. Youll have to do battle against him to catch this Pokémon and add it to your collection. You only have one opportunity to battle Giovanni, and you need to use a Super Rocket Radar to find him. For November 2021, youll need to complete all of the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research project, the month-long Special Research for the Season of Mischief event. Heres what you need to know about fighting Giovanni, and all of his weaknesses, and the best Pokémon to counter him.
How Many Players Are Needed To Beat Mewtwo
This has become a trickier question with recent changes. A solid team of three players with top level counters and Best Friend bonuses can take him on. However, your rewards increase if you win quickly so the more the better. We always recommend at least 5-6 trainers for your Mewtwo raids, but if you can get more you should. This can be a tough fight, especially if the weather is against you.
How To Defeat Mewtwo In Pokemon Go
Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Pokemon, meaning that players should bring along a Pokemon with Ghost, Dark, or Bug-type moves. Here are the best possible counters for a Mewtwo Raid.
- Gengar, Tyranitar, Absol, Weavile, Giratina, Honchkrow, Houndoom, Origin Giratina.
Although, as mentioned, and as cheesy as this sounds, friendship is the best way to take down Mewtwo. Teaming up with other players will make this battle a cinch. At the end of the battle, players are given extra Premier Balls when playing with friends. Now that the game has an invite feature, make sure to bring them along to capture this legendary Pokemon. The catch rate is pretty low so be careful when tossing them. The best thing to do would be to throw them at the end of his attack animation.

If Mewtwo, Zapdos, Articuno, or Moltres beat you in battle, all you need to do is quickly beat the Elite Four and go back to where you encounter them. They will have respawned, which will give you the opportunity to fight them again. So dont worry if Mewtwo is gone. He will return once you beat the Elite Four again.
Giovanni Missing In Action In Pokemon Go
Unfortunately, Giovanni is gone. He has reportedly disappeared, according to Niantic. It is hinted that he is planning something nefarious in secret, so it will be interesting to see what he has in store.
However, this means that trainers cant battle Giovanni at the moment. Super Rocket Radars wont work, so theres no point in using them.
Pokemon GOs announcement didnt mention when Giovanni would return. The only further information they offered was stating, Be sure to keep an eye out for updates throughout the season.
This likely hints at a large event revolving around Team GO Rocket later on in the Season of Mischief. This season is all about Psychic-type Pokemon , so it makes sense to release the most powerful Psychic Pokemon during this time.
While Team GO Rocket may not be involved, there are plenty of other events for trainers to look forward to. There already has been a Special Research where trainers could pick up the mythical Pokemon Hoopa, who also seems to be the mascot for the Season of Mischief.
The Psychic Spectacular will also be making a return to Pokemon GO. This event will feature the debut of Inkay and its evolution Malamar. These are Generation VI Psychic and Dark Pokemon with a very unique evolution method.

You have several choices when choosing to battle against this Pokémon in raids. We recommend you use Giratina , Chandelure, or Tyranitar.
Giratina is a Ghost and Dragon-type legendary Pokémon, making it a difficult Pokémon to capture. Because its a legendary, its perfect for taking down Mewtwo. It brings plenty of power to the table and an overwhelming moveset to use various Ghost-type attacks that are super effective against Mewtwo. The best moveset to use against Mewtwo will be the fast move shadow claw, and then the charged moves shadow ball and ominous wind.
Another Pokémon were going to recommend you use is Chandelure, a Ghost and Fire-type Pokémon. You want to focus on using Chandelures Ghost-type attacks to whittle Mewtwos defenses. However, you dont want to rely too much on it because its more of an attacker than a defender, making it more of a glass cannon. The best moveset Chandelure can use in this battle is the fast move incinerate, and the charged moves shadow ball and overheat.
The final recommended Pokémon is Tyranitar, the Dark and Rock-type Pokémon. Tyranitar is right in the middle of being a heavy attacker and a suitable defensive Pokémon. You cant go wrong with using it in this raid, and its even more common than Chandelure. You might be able to use two of them in this raid if you can spare them. The best moveset Tyranitar can use against Mewtwo is the fast move bite, and the charged moves crunch and stone edge.

Despite its appearance, Armored Mewtwo is still a pure Psychic type, which means its vulnerable to the same kinds of Pokemon as a regular Mewtwo. Ghost, Bug, and Dark types in particular have an advantage over it in battle, so youll want to fill your team with Pokemon of those types before heading into the Raid.
Your best choices when facing Armored Mewtwo will be other Legendary Pokemon such as Darkrai and Origin Forme Giratina. Hydregion, Weavile, and Gengar can all dish out super-effective damage against Armored Mewtwo as well. However, Gengar will take super-effective damage in return due to its Poison typing, so it may not last very long. Scizor is another solid choice it can deal super-effective damage with Bug moves, while its Steel typing will help insulate it from Mewtwos Psychic attacks.

- My line up worked the best. First, he had his Persian. I used my Rhyperior with his smack down/stone edge.
- One shield will be used here. After my first attack I switch over to Machamp with Counter/Dynamic punch where I took him out.
- They use Kingler for the 2nd one where my Machamp used its 2nd attack and a 3rd. I then waste him as I did not shield. Lugia comes up. I then used my Tyranitar iron tail/fire blast and used off one attack. I also used my 2nd shield.
- They will take you out before a 2nd attack can come off, and they send another attack anyway. Dont sweat it.
- Once Tyranitar goes down, switch back to rhyperior. There will be just enough to finish Lugia off.
I study this over two weeks finding him everyday, and losing every day, until I did everything above and won!
- Currently, he always uses Persian as the main Pokémon. You can battle with one of these Pokémon at random:

In order to combat Mewtwo, I would recommend using a bug, ghost, or dark type Pokemons as only they can do maximum damage to Mewtwo. Here are the Pokemons that can be the right choice to battle with Mewtwo.
Armored Mewtwo:
Armored Mewtwo is the most preferred Pokemon for fighting against Mewtwo. Its iron tail and confusion moves shall help to beat Mewtwo.
Gengar:
Gengar is a ghost-type Pokemon that you can pick to fight against Mewtwo. Gengar has some great moves that can do significant damage to Mewtwo.
Houndoom:
If you have a trained Houndoom in your Pokemon collection, then it would also be a great option to battle with Mewtwo as it can do 160 damage to Mewtwo.
Pinsir:
Pinsir is a powerful bug-type Pokemon. You can use its bug bite and x-scissors moves to defeat Mewtwo.

Armored Mewtwos armor is pretty stylin, but thats not the only difference between it and regular Mewtwo. The two also perform differently in battleregular Mewtwo is nearly peerless at dishing out damage but also takes more in return, while Armored Mewtwo is much sturdier but at the cost of attack strength.
How To Catch A Shiny Mewtwo
Shiny Mewtwo has been in Pokemon Go for a while now and as a result, you have a 1/20 chance of encountering one after a successful raid. Shiny Mewtwo forgoes the purple in favour of pale green, making it one of the more distinctive shiny Pokemon in the game. If you are lucky enough to find a shiny Mewtwo, make sure you use a Pinap Berry instead of a Golden Razz, because the chance to catch it is 100% anyway.
