Like in all Pokemon games, it’s recommended that you hold on to this Master Ball to catch a legendary Pokemon such as Zacian or Zamazenta, depending on which is your game’s exclusive – but there are two other ways you can get more Master Balls in Pokemon Sword & Shield…

We also want to note that contrary to some sources, you cannot get a Master Ball from the cram-o-matic. Every other type of Pokeball can be had this way – but not a Master Ball. For more on that, check our full Cram-o-Matic recipies page.

After jumping into the Crown Tundra DLC, which isn’t recommended until after you have finished the game, despite being able to access the area as soon as the Wild Area opens up, players will have to face off against Peony in a battle. Whether you win or lose this battle, he will direct the player to find his daughter, who is hiding out in the Dyanamax Adventures cave. After doing your first run through this new game mode, Peony will ask you to meet him at the Freezington Inn, where he will give the player yet another Master Ball to help in their quest to find more legendary Pokemon. Extra Preparation For Shadow Rider Calyrex

If youre going to be taking on Shadow Rider Calyrex, theres an extra step that will help make the battle much more manageable. The method using a Gallade has one flaw, and thats False Swipe being a Normal Type move.

This means that False Swipe will have no effect on Shadow Rider Calyrex, as it is Ghost and Psychic Type. This can make lowering its health without fainting it very frustrating, especially as Shadow Rider Calyrex is likely to knock most of your Pokémon out with ease.

There is a way around this type issue, though. You want a Pokémon in your team that knows the Water Type move Soak.

When you hit an opponent with Soak, it changes them into a pure Water Type Pokémon. This type change allows you to use False Swipe, even on Shadow Rider Calyrex.

The following Pokémon can learn the move Soak in Sword and Shield: Psyduck, Golduck, Goldeen, Seaking, Remoraid, Octillery, Pelipper, Wailord, Basculin, Wishiwashi, Dewpider, Araquanid, Pyukumuku, Tapu Fini, Sobble, Drizzle, and Inteleon.

The levels at which theyll learn Soak will vary, but youll want whichever Pokémon you choose to be Level 80 or higher to contend with Shadow Rider Calyrex. You can use the man on the left side of any Pokémon Center to help a Pokémon remember the move Soak if it has forgotten it.

Should You Choose Spectrier Or Glastrier

Ultimately, when youre choosing a spot to plant those seeds, youre deciding if you want the fabled steed to be Spectrier or Glastrier. These similar legendary horse-like Pokémon are both available whether youve got Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, but you only get one of them.

If you choose to plant your Carrot Seeds in the icy field on Snowslide Slope, youll be choosing Glastrier, a pure Ice Type Pokémon. If you choose to plant your Carrot Seeds in the field at the Old Cemetery, youll be choosing Spectrier, a pure Ghost Type Pokémon.

Glastrier, because it is Ice Type, has significantly more type weaknesses than Spectrier, and doesnt have the two type immunities Ghost Type Pokémon benefit from.

When it comes to their stats, Glastrier has a significant edge in Defense and Special Defense. Glastrier also has a high Attack stat, whereas Spectriers highest stat is Special Attack. Spectrier also trades lower Defense and Special Defense for far superior Speed.

Both can fuse with Calyrex after youve caught it. The fusion with Glastrier creates Ice Rider Calyrex, which has superior Attack and learns the powerful Ice Type move Glacial Lance.

The fusion with Spectrier creates Shadow Rider Calyrex, which has superior Special Attack and learns the powerful Ghost Type move Astral Barrage. Both are extremely powerful Pokémon, and as such neither is a bad choice.

    Where To Find The First

In the past, players have been able to obtain the Master Ball fairly late in the game, with it appearing in the Silph Co. building in Red and Blue and being gifted by Professor Elm after defeating Claire in Gold and Silver. Unlike past Pokemon titles, players have to wait until they have beaten the game and defeated Chairman Rose after he interrupts the Pokemon League. Once the credits have rolled and players are sent back into the game, Professor Magnolia will be waiting for the player character in their house, where they will gift them with a Master Ball before sending them on the post-game journey involving Zacian and Zamazenta.

Getting A Master Ball By Completing The Story

How to Get Unlimited Master Balls & X-Mas Trading in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Historically, Pokémon games give you one Master Ball right before you’re supposed to catch that game’s Legendary Pokémon, and Pokémon Sword& Shield are no different.

In Sword& Shield, you can find the Master Ball after completing the main story. After entering the game again, you’ll find yourself back at your house. You can obtain your Master Ball from Professor Magnolia here and are encouraged to seek out the Legendary Pokémon Zamazenta and Zacian.

You could use your Master Ball to catch your version-exclusive Legendary, but it seems that a lot of Pokémon trainers are saving their Master Ball in case they run into a Shiny Gigantamax Pokémon during Max Raids. With low catch-rates in that scenario, the limit of having only one Poké Ball to throw, and the low spawn rates for Shiny Pokémon, it makes sense to save your Master Ball for these instances.

If you already used your Master Ball, worry not, for there is still another chance to get Master Balls.

Where To Find The Beast Ball In Pokmon Sword And Shield

How to get another Master Ball on Pokémon Sword & Shield

    Ultra Beasts, beware.

The Beast Ball from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon has returned in Sword and Shield and is arguably the hardest of the Poké Balls to come across.

The Beast Ball can only be acquired through special means, and while its fun to have one of every Poké Ball in your inventory, the Beast Ball is something that you mainly use to show off. The chances of catching a Pokémon in it are extremely low and with no Ultra Beasts in the game, it is practically useless.

Still, if you want one, theres a way to obtain ittwo ways, in fact.

The first method players can get their hands on the Beast Ball in Pokémon Sword and Shield is through the random vendor in Stow-on-Side. He will offer a different item every day, and the Beast Ball has a chance of being one of these items if players get lucky.

The last, and easier option, to obtaining the Beast Ball is through the Ball Guy in Wyndons main stadium. After completing the game you can take on a slew of trainers again and after being successful, the Ball Guy will give you one of many random rewards, which includes one single Beast Ball.

Pokmon Sword And Shield Has Released The Crown Tundra And With It Comes The Powerful Calyrex Here’s Everything You Need To Catch It

Often referred to in The Crown Tundras story mode as The King of Bountiful Harvests, Calyrex is the primary legendary in The Crown Tundra. The core story revolves around Calyrex, and finally culminates in an opportunity to battle and capture them.

If you head into that battle with a Master Ball, the catch shouldnt give you much trouble. However, many players will want to save that Master Ball for another time, in which case itll be a hard battle.

For most players who have had Pokémon Sword and Shield since before the release of The Crown Tundra DLC, youll likely be through the main story and past the Pokémon League. For newcomers or anyone starting a new game, heres exactly when youre able to catch Calyrex.

    On this page:

  • Where To Use It

Since players aren’t given their first Master Ball until they have finished the main game, there’s no way or reason to use it before the Pokemon League. The post-game content opens up possibilities of catching more powerful Pokemon in the Wild Area, as all Pokemon have their levels increased to at least 60, but there is one Pokemon in particular that players should use their Master Ball on, which is the cover legendary.

Considering the fact that players get the Master Ball just before embarking on the post-game quest which involves Zacian and Zamazenta, it seems clear that even Game Freak thinks that this is the best use of the item. As the cover legendaries, Zacian and Zamazenta have an abysmally low capture rate of 3, which is the same as Mewtwo in Red and Blue as well as most other legendary Pokémon in the mainline Pokemon series. However, it may also be best to save your Master Balls until you begin the Crown Tundra DLC, as there are many more legendary Pokemon that are just as hard to catch in that area.

The Master Ball Is A Very Powerful Tool Trainers Can Use In Pokemon Sword And Shield

There are a variety of tools that trainers can use to help them in Pokemon Sword and Shield. However, one of the most sought after of these tools is no doubt the Master Ball. The legendary piece of equipment has always been known for its ability to allow trainers to catch any wild creature without any chance of failure. Fortunately, we have everything you need to know to get your Master Ball covered for you.

    Where Not To Use It

There are a few times where it can be tempting to use a Master Ball, but not all of them are worth it in the end. Rare and promoted Max Raid battles might seem worth it using the Master Ball at first, but they can simply be attempted again if players fail the first time. Normal Max Raid battles are always a guaranteed capture, including non-promoted Gigantamax forms, so the Master Ball shouldn’t be used here. A shiny Raid encounter will always be shiny, so if players saved the game before attempting the Raid and didn’t capture it, they can simply reset the game and try again.

Eternatus, the other main legendary, is also a guaranteed capture, so this is one legendary Pokemon that players can use a regular Pokeball on a capture it 100% of the time. Every Pokemon in Dynamax Adventures, including the legendary found at the end of a run, has a guaranteed catch rate, meaning there is no point saving them for the harder Pokemon like Palkia or Dialga.
