Pokmon Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9

A legendary Pokémon on a legendarily rare Pokémon card

Sold for $144,300 in May 2021

Lugia is one of the most iconic and popular Pokémon in the entire series, having starred on the front of early Game Boy game Pokémon Silver and its Nintendo DS remake SoulSilver. A legendary bird Pokémon from Gen II, Lugia is one of the most powerful and hard-to-find Pokémon that players can catch in the video games – so its only fitting that its Pokémon card is also extremely rare.

The Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9 Pokémon card is described by auction house PWCC as one of the most difficult Pokémon cards to grade, as the result of a number of errors and misprints that were included in the early runs of the Neo Genesis set for the Pokémon TCG. Later print runs were corrected, but many of the cards from the expansion remain more common in their earlier uncorrected forms.

As of May 2021, PWCC claims that only 41 Gem Mint 10 condition Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Lugia #9 cards have ever been graded by PSA, with just three earning the maximum BGS 10 Pristine rating from grading company Beckett Grading Services. The Lugias rarity means that it ranks almost as highly as the legendary first-edition Charizard when it comes to the most valuable Pokémon cards.

Where To Sell Pokemon Card Bulk

If youre an enthusiast or collector of any kind, odds are you can spot expensive singles or rare cards amongst a stack of low-value items. And while separating those single cards out and selling them one by one is most often how youll make top dollar, getting rid of all your common bulk Pokemon, trainer, and energy cards all at once for any modest payout is a win.

Fortunately, there are places that offer fairly generous rates for the low-priced cards youre no longer interested in. Here are the best places to sell Pokemon card bulk.

eBay Japan has published their cross-border e-commerce trends for the first quarter of 2021 . They have revealed the sales trends for listings that have been sold by Japanese eBay sellers.

Pokemon Card Game along with Yu-Gi-Oh! and card games in general are among the top-selling products in general on eBay Japan . According to eBay Japan, trading cards grew more than 8 times compared to the same period last year.

In the top 10 highest transaction amounts , trading cards have risen from 8th place in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to 2nd place in 6 months. The 1st place is women’s clothing & accessories. Police Arrest Man Selling Fake Pokemon Cards

According to a report by Nintendo Life, Yukinori Harada, the owner of Alive Yokkaichi Tokiwa, was arrested following the 2021 sale of a fake Pokemon card worth $20.

The card wasnt the only reason for the arrest either. He also had a fake copy of Megaman in his store and admitted to police that he thought it may have been fake when he originally sold it.

Police are trying to determine where the forged cards originally came from, so there could be more to this story than just this shop owners arrest.

In a tweet, the shop apologized for any inconvenience the arrest may have caused, but the store is remaining open while the investigation continues.

Japanese Shop Owner Arrested For Selling Fake Pokemon Cards

A 48-year-old Japanese man has been arrested and 150 cards have been confiscated following the sale of fake Pokemon cards at his store.

Pokemon cards have become quite lucrative in recent years, thanks in large part to influencers like YouTuber Logan Paul jumping on the trend.

With some rare cards selling for thousands of dollars, its easy to see why sites such as eBay are now requiring in-house authentication for anything over $750.

However, as it turns out, cards worth just $20 are allegedly being forged and police in Japan arent putting up with it.

Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are other options to find people buying Pokemon cards in your area.

Sold in October, 2020 for $150,100

Another holy-grail trophy card, the 1998 Japanese Promo Kangaskhan Family Event card, continues to be one of the rarest and most desirable of all Pokemon cards.

This card is especially interesting compared to other trophy cards because teams consisting of a parent and child battled each other to obtain it, which was an admirable effort to build family bonding.

Fittingly, the tournament organizers chose none other than Kangaskhan, a kangaroo-like Pokemon with a baby Kangaskhan in her pouch, as the trophy card mascot.

Just 47 examples have made their way across PSA’s grading table, with eleven assessed in PSA 10 condition.

Pokemon Card Crimes Plague 2022

So far this year, there have been a handful of Pokemon card-related crimes committed and were not even two months in.

Back in January, a Florida man was arrested for stealing hundreds of Pokemon cards from Walmart. And earlier in February, a thief smashed into a Minnesota store, stealing $250,000 worth of cards.

Its crazy to think how people are willing to go to such extremes for Pokemon cards, but with even newer cards in high demand from fans, its unlikely this is the last time well hear about crimes such as this.

    Getting Your Pokemon Cards Graded

In the course of researching the market value of your card, you may have come across graded cards that seem to be fetching large premiums over cards in seemingly mint condition. This is no fluke.

Over the past 30 years, a number of third-party grading services have popped up to authenticate and grade trading and sports cards. Pokemon cards are certainly no exception. In fact, the multi-six and seven-figure cited examples in the opening paragraph of this article were PSA graded cards that scored GEM MINT 10 on a condition scale of 1 to 10.

Popular Pokemon Card Grading Services Include:

The paid professional grading insight and card authentication service can cost anywhere from $15 to $500 or more for a single card, but the added value can be well worth it when it comes to sale time.

For example, the 1st Edition Base Set Charizard in mint but ungraded condition would likely have fetched somewhere in the neighborhood of $25,000 to $40,000 on eBay, assuming HD photos highlighted every nook and cranny of the card. The verified authenticity and gem mint status sent the sales price soaring past $400,000, making it only 1 of 121 known cards in existence to have achieved that grade.

That said, card grading requires a small to moderate learning curve, and it may be wise to consult an experienced submitter, check out a YouTube tutorial, or even ask questions in a Pokemon Facebook group before submitting a card to a service.
