What’s In A Nickname Change It

16. How To Train Gyms? And Other Pokémon Go FAQs

Changing your nickname is easy-peasy. Just tap the Pokeball on the main screen at the bottom > Settings > tap Change Nickname. You’ll get a warning that you can only change your nickname once, so choose wisely, and make it count! And make sure it’s at least PG-rated because other Trainers are going to see it.

What Does This Calculate

This calculator simply attempts to calculate the IVs for your Pokémon based on the information available.

As multiple IVs can give the same CP and HP values for a Pokémon, sometimes the range given can be quite large.

For example, the Eevee pictured to the right, this could either be a great Pokémon with almost full IVs, or it could be a fairly useless29% Eevee.

Earning Go Battle League Sets In The Pokmon Go Battle League

Until further notice, walking will not be required to unlock Battle Sets

Battles in the Pokémon Go Battle League come in five Battle increments called Go Battle League Sets. The first of these Sets is free, but each Set after that has to be earned and/or purchased. To earn a Go Battle League Set, you need to walk five KM, but you also have the option of paying Poké Coins to speed this up. Even if you pay to Battle early, you still need to walk at least 2 KM, so players who sink lots of money into the game will still have to work for their Battle Sets.

Players can earn up to five Sets each day. However, each Set requires walking another 5 KM, so participation really requires keeping active and playing a lot. You can see your progress towards earning your next Set in the Battle Menu, and the app also notifies you when you’ve earned another Set.

Other Ev Oddities & History

The EV system has been a key part of the series since Gen III. However, each game adds items and minigames that make the process of EV training easier to manage. Although most trainers will likely be spending their efforts on the latest entry, it’s good to search efficient EV training methods for the individual games.

In Gens 1 and 2, the system was similar, but much harder to reliably track and manage. Every single stat could also be maxed out, which eliminates the interesting part of the modern EV system. There is one consistency between the two systems: EVs are factored into stats on level up. However, it wasn’t until Gen V that Pokemon at level 100 could gain more EVs that are calculated into their stat total. It’s odd, but the system works as intended for all players. As another fun fact, EV’s are not a mechanic in any of the spinoffs, including games that have a leveling system.

EV Training may seem complex at first, but it’s a simple process and can make Pokemon much more exciting to play. As long as;players track everything properly,;they’ll be able to have specialized Pokemon for competitive battles in no time.

What’s In The ‘advanced’ Section

If you’re still getting a range of results and want to know what your exact IVs are, you can use this feature.This is a further way in which you can narrow down the results, but at the cost of powering up your Pokémon.

To use this feature, enter the stats as normal, but then power up your Pokémon one time, and enter the new stats in this advanced section.This tool will then re-calculate based on your new data, and will help to further narrow down your results. You can do this several times ifyou are still getting multiple results.

How To Manage Motivation

So youve captured the gym and put your best team in it. Youre set, right? Theres no way someone is going to take it from you. That used to be the case, but with the latest update things have changed. Now you have to take into account motivation, which is your Pokemons willingness to fight translated in combat power. Every day you hold a gym, the CP of your Pokemon drops. Once it hits zero, your Pokemon get kicked out of the gym unless you feed berries to each one holding it. To make matters worse, Pokemon with CP above 3,000 lose motivation faster. This ensures a more dynamic map, but also makes it harder to hold gyms. Thats why youll want to keep yourself well stocked with berries so you can keep your Pokemon in fighting shape.

What Is Hyper Training & Ivs

How Does Pokemon Go Actually Work | Simplilearn

Before we tell you how to do it, we need to establish what it is.

Hyper Training;is a method of Pokémon training that allows the player to maximize one or more of a Pokémon’s;IVs;through intensive training. This feature was introduced in;Pokémon Sun and Moon.

IVs is an abbreviation for ‘Individual Values’ also know as Individual Strengths. They are instrumental in determining the;stats;of a Pokémon, being responsible for the large variation in stats among untrained Pokémon of the same species.

Each of the six;battle stats;has an IV associated with it, with that IV coming into calculation alongside the Pokémon’s;base stats,;Nature, and;EVs;to determine the actual stat number.

A Pokémon’s IVs are fixed when it is;generated by the game and cannot be changed unless Hyper Training.

A Pokémon’s stats are determined according to the above formulas.

Your Trainer’s level affects quite a few features in the game. The higher your Trainer level, the stronger and rarer the Pokemon you will encounter and the higher you can increase your Pokemon’s CP. Considering this, it’s best to increase your Trainer level as efficiently as possible so you can compete with rival team’s Gyms and catch new, rarer Pokemon! To do this, you need to earn XP.

You gain XP for a variety of activities, including:

Battling;at a Rival Gym Varies

In November 2016, an update added daily XP bonuses in Pokemon Go. You can get bonus XP for catching a Pokemon daily and for spinning a PokeStop daily .

Catch Streak
7 Day 2500 XP, Even More Items

Additionally, there are a few things that can earn you extra XP when catching a Pokemon, including:;

First Throw Bonus 50 XP

To obtain a throw bonus, the thrown Poke Ball must land inside of the colored circle. The smaller the circle, the greater the bonus. So, for example, if you catch a new Pokemon with a perfectly thrown Poke Ball, you’ll get 700 XP for it! ;

The 500 XP New Pokemon bonus also applies to hatching Eggs, so if you hatch a new Pokemon, you’ll get 1000 XP.;

Master Battery Saving Mode

Pokemon Go is a battery killer on all phones. Battery saving mode in Pokemon Go will let the screen shut off when the phone is upside down, meaning you’re not spending all that battery life on illuminating the screen when you don’t need to. You’ll need a phone with an accelerometer in it to work – which may exclude some entry-level Android phones.;

Once it’s on, you can often put the phone in your pocket upside down, the screen will turn off, but it will still be live, tracking your distance to hatch eggs and vibrating to alert you to Pokemon.

How To Train Pokemon In Pokemon Go

Training Pokemon isnt nearly as fun as it is in the canon Pokemon games. They dont gain experience by battling so forget about that. Instead, you have to use Stardust and Pokemon Candies.

Whenever you catch Pokemon, youll receive some Stardust. Typically this is around 100 Stardust per capture. Youll also get a big bonus amount for each 7-day streak. Stardust is also rewarded for level ups and from some Pokestop and Gym spins.

Candies are gained by catching that specific type of Pokemon . Once caught you can set them as your buddy and gain candies by walking around outside. The distance required depends on the type of Pokemon, with legendary Pokemon needing a whopping 20 kilometers for a single candy.

Heres how you train Pokemon in Pokemon Go:

  • Find the Pokemon you want to level up in your inventory.
  • Click the Power Up button. Some of your Stardust will be used and your Pokemon will become stronger.
  • Repeat this process until you run out of resources or your Pokemon reaches max level.
  • Its extraordinarily simple and we wish that Niantic had included some other ways to level up your Pokemon. Nevertheless, this is the only method to train your Pokemon in Pokemon Go for now.

    Pokémon Go Gym and Raid Battle Update

    Make sure you always use your most powered up Pokemon if you choose to represent the gym otherwise youll lose your spot. Do this before selecting which Pokemon to go forth and represent.

    To power up go on your Pokedex and select you Pokemon. Then hit the power up button. You can only do so if you have enough candy and stardust.

    When picking your Pokemon to fight there are a few principles worth bearing in mind. Water tends to put out fire, fire burns grass, etc. This type chart is also worth bearing in mind too.

    More Berries Than Ever

    We explained in;our primer;that razz berries are items you can feed a Pokemon to slow it down before you capture it. Updates have introduced multiple types of berries that each have different effects.Nanab Berries: Use these berries to slow down a wild Pokemon’s movements. Strategic use of these can be key to capturing a particularly elusive ‘Mon.Pinap Berries: These double the amount of Candy you get as a reward if your next attempt to capture a Pokemon succeeds. It’s a bit of a risk though, because if you fail to capture your next target the berry goes to waste.Razz Berries: Mechanics haven’t changed here. Razz Berries can still be fed to a wild Pokemon to make it easier to catch.Golden Razz Berries: Like their less shiny cousins, the Golden Razz Berries have the same function of making it easy to capture wild Pokemon, but are much more powerful.You can use berries in tandem with a stronger Pokeball to catch particularly feisty or extremely rare Pokemon that cross your path. However, don’t use multiple berries at a time since their effects don’t stack.One of the aspiring trainers right here in the PCMag Labs caught themselves a Dragonair doing just that. Feed the Pokemon a razz berry, take out a Great Ball, give it some good arc on your throw, and catching just got a whole lot easier.

    Great Ultra Or Master League In The Pokmon Go Battle League

    The Go Battle League is divided into three different Leagues: Great, Ultra, and Master League. These are set up the same as Trainer battles and Team Leader Training before with CP caps:

    • The Great allows for Pokémon up to 1,500 CP and will run April 12-26. The Great League Remix runs concurrently but doesn’t allow the 10 most used Pokémon in the Great League.
    • The Ultra League allows for Pokémon up to 2,500 CP and will run April 26 through May 10.
    • The Master League has no CP limits and will run May 17-24.
    • All three Leagues will run from May 17-24.

    Each League is featured separately before rotating to the next League. This means you can usually only participate in one League at a time, but you have the opportunity to participate in all three Leagues. However, all three leagues are also available during a final week, in which players can choose any league they wish to battle.

    Reducing Evs On A Pokemon

    Pokemon Go How to Train and Evolve Your Pokemon

    Maxing out a stat is relatively easy with all the tools at hand. However, those who require more specific stat builds will need to be careful to allocate points properly. It’s very easy to overshoot goals and mess up EV training, especially with the various combinations of items and Pokerus. If this happens, don’t get discouraged! That Pokemon will not need to get sent to the farm; it just needs to be tuned a bit.

    • Pomeg Berry: HP
    • Grepa Berry: Special Defense
    • Tamato Berry: Speed

    If;the player royally screws up a build or decides to use a different stat spread, there are ways to completely reset EVs. In Sword and Shield,;the player can speak to Lady Clear on the Isle of Armor to reset EVs, but it will require the DLC.

    Choose A Rare Type Buddy

    Some Pokemon don’t appear very often. Because you won’t see these very often, making them your buddy means you can earn those types of candies gradually as you walk. With time, you’ll find you have enough to evolve that Pokemon.;

    Probably best not to do that with Magikarp, because you need 400 candies to evolve it and you’ll get bored before anything happens. It’s worth noting, however that different Pokemon will need you to walk different distances.

    Build Your Xp First Then Power

    How Gym Battles Work

    The skill of your Trainer is dictated by the XP you have. You move through the levels of XP, needing more XP each time to level up. But as you do so, the rewards get higher and you’ll evolve and hatch Pokemon at a higher level, as well as being able to power-up to higher levels.

    Powering-up your Pokemon when your XP is low means it costs you more candies to do so. So it’s better to save your power-ups of Pokemon until you’ve reached a higher XP level – like over level 20.

    To help build XP quickly, try some of these things:
