The Best Pokmon To Counter Lugia

ELECTRIC TYPE LUGIA | Pokemon Type Swap [Photoshop / Fusion] (BrettUltimus)

The best Pokémon to counter Lugia in this five-star raid are Magnezone, Rampardos, and Mega Gengar.

Magnezone is an Electric and Steel-type Pokémon. It has a robust defense thanks to its Steel-typing, but its Electric attacks exploit Lugias weaknesses extremely well, making a surefire choice for the fight. The best moves Magnezone can learn is spark for its fast move and wild charge and zap cannon for its charge moves.

The next Pokémon you may want to use will be Rampardos, a Rock-type Pokémon. Rampardos doesnt have the highest defense, and outside of five-star raids, you dont really want to use it in Pokémon battles against other trainers. If you have one, chances are youre only going to use it for PvE battles. The best moveset Rampardos can use against Lugia is the fast move smack down, and the charged moves rock slide and outrage.

The final Pokémon you want to have on your team against Lugia is Mega Gengar. Its the best choice to take it down, given how powerful it is, and it can easily hit many of Lugias weaknesses. Plus, it will boost the other Pokémon other players are using in the same raid battle. The best moveset for it to know for this battle utilizes shadow claw for its fast move and shadow ball and shadow punch for its charge moves.

Youre going to need to build a team of six Pokémon to defeat Lugia. These are some other choices to consider to add to your roster during the five-star raid.

Best Raid Counters For Lugia

To counter Lugia in raids, youll need to prepare Ghost, Electric, Rock, Dark, or Ice-type Pokemon. As mentioned earlier, there are no double-counter types for Lugia. One of the best counters for Lugia is Mega Gengar, with Lick and Shadow Ball. Besides Mega Gengar, Zekrom or Rampardos is great too.

Leader Of The Originals

The original legendary birds were presented to fans as an independent group in generation 1. Little did we know that wasn’t the entire picture, every group needs a leader, and the most powerful bird fills that spot.

While Ho-Oh reigns over the three legendary dogs, Lugia is the commander of the original bird trio. Pokémon: The Movie 2000 was the original source for this, showing the characters using Lugia’s song to calm the legendary birds and bring peace to the land.

‘pokemon Go’ Fest 2021 Season Of Mischief Event

The Lugia Legendary raid is part of the “Pokemon Go” Fest 2021 Season of Mischief. Many other exciting events have also been planned for the coming months, starting with the appearance of Hoopa, the Mischief Pokemon. Trainers also receive season-long special research story and tasks with corresponding rewards.

According to the Pokemon Go website, three events have been revealed in the time of writing:

Self Aware Of Its Power

One of the smartest Pokémon in the game, being able to talk to humans through telekinesis is just one of its many talents. Lugia is so self-aware that instead of using its massive power on a whim like the other tanks, it buries itself at the bottom of the ocean as not to cause damage.

Bird In Dragon’s Clothing

With the aesthetic alone it’s hard to believe Lugia isn’t a Dragon-type. With massive wings and powerful tail, it seems only right to include the goliath in the bunch. Especially with the array of Pokémon in the gang that doesn’t look the part .

It adds more confusion when it learns Dragon-type moves off the bat, with Dragon Rush and Dragon Pulse being learned at level 15 in their respective generations they were introduced in. At the end of the day, Lugia is just an incredible looking bird Pokémon with all the right looks.

What Are The Best Counters For Lugia In Pokmon Go

Lugia is capable of dealing Psychic, Flying, Dragon, and Water damage. It takes super effective damage from Rock, Ghost, Electric, Ice, and Dark attacks. It’s greatest strength, however, is its defense. Lugia is bulky and can take a lot of damage, so you’re going to want to focus on heavy hitters to beat the clock. Mega Evolution is definitely going to be your friend here, especially if you can coordinate with the rest of your Raid party.

How To Catch Lugia In Pokemon Go

FIRE LUGIA | Pokemon Type Swap [Photoshop Fusion] (BrettUltimus)

Like other Legendary Pokemons in Pokemon Go, Lugia is available to battle and catch in five-star raids or legendary raids. In order to defeat the powerful Pokemon, trainers must bring their strongest team, consisting of Pokemons that Lugia is weak against. The trainer might need the help of their team members as well. Additionally, the use of Golden Razz Berries will increase the chance of landing the Pokeballs at the right spot. For those who are unaware, Raids are time-bound encounters that allow players to team up and defeat powerful Pokemons at gyms. Each raid has its own specific Pokemon to fight. Trainers can track several raids using their radar.

Where To Find Lugia And What Players Need

Though Lugia is a Psychic/Flying-type Pokemon, it’s actually commonly associated with the water. As such, Lugia can be found in the Lental Seafloor location in New Pokemon Snap. The Lental Seafloor location is unlocked a decent way through the game, so players are going to have to put in some hours before they can reach the area. To unlock the Lental Seafloor location, players must first reach research level 2 in Maricopia Reef . Next, players are going to need a certain type of Illumina Orb before they can actually reach Lugia.

Specifically, players are going to need pink Illumina Orbs to unlock an alternate path that will take them to Lugia’s location. Thankfully, pink Illumina Orbs can be unlocked in the Lental Seafloor as well. Players will need to take a picture of a glowing pink Frillish in order to unlock these types of Illumina Orbs. With these pink Illumina Orbs, players can begin their quest to find Lugia in the Lental Seafloor.

Pokmon Go’s Hardest Catch

Lugia

Many players have found themselves in the frustrating position of stumbling across a rare Pokémon and fumbling on the capture. Luckily, this is why the Master Ball was created, just for situations like this.

The Flying/Psychic-type has a capture rate of 2%, the lowest in the entire game. This is followed up by the other legendary Pokémon who hang out around the 3% zone. Players will have to beat a legendary raid before they even get the chance, making failure even more frustrating.

Pokemon Go Lugia Moveset

Being a Flying and Psychic-type, Lugia has the option to use both moves in battle. Interesting enough, Lugia doesnt have a Flying-type Fast attack so Pokemon that are weak to those moves like Mega Abomasnow could see some sustainability in battles against the Legendary.

However, Lugia will have two Flying-type Charged attack options including the new Aeroblast move. Sky Attack and Aeroblast will punish any Pokemon that are weak to Flying-type attacks so its a risk to bring a Pokemon like Mega Abomasnow.

Steel types like Magnezone will excel against Lugia. Both of Lugias Fast attacks are resisted by Steel types as well as three of the four Charged moves, the one outlier being Hydro Pump. While there isnt a Steel-type Mega, yet, there are some great options like the aforementioned Magnezone as well as Bisharp.

Off The Charts Defense

Flying-type Pokémon, while effective in certain conditions and incredibly helpful for travel, aren’t known for their combat stats. Speed is the only thing they top the boards with, giving them the opportunity for the first shot without the power to back it up.

Lugia, on the other hand, has its fair share of type weaknesses. Making it a liability for the amount of attack power it has. To balance this out, despite its Flying-type nature, Lugia has one of the highest Special Defense stats available.

Catching Lugia In Pokmon Go

Lugia has a notoriously hard-to-hit catch circle. The best way to guarantee you catch Lugia is to use the circle lock technique, but you should go in expecting a learning curve for this one. Not only does Lugia travel up and down the screen in a strange way, but it’s also set at a bizarre distance that will take some throwing to learn.

Using the circle lock technique, players can hold down the ball until Lugia’s catch circle shrinks. Releasing when the circle is at its smallest point allows the circle to lock in place, guaranteeing an “Excellent” throw if the ball can hit that point. To make sure that can be done, throw the ball when Lugia is finishing its attack. Be aware, though Lugia’s attack is very hard to judge, making it more difficult to use Circle Lock on successfully than other bosses. The best berry to help catch it is the Golden Razz Berry.
