Encountering Jessie And James

Jessie and James can be both encountered at the same time when Trainer finds and interacts with the Meowth Balloon. Similarly to regular Team GO Rocket Balloon, Meowth Balloon can spawn one at the time above the Trainer’s avatar in the Map View, however Meowth Balloons are rarer. You do not need a Rocket Radar to encounter them.

Jessie and James had increased appearance during Team GO Rocket Event and Day 2 of Pokémon GO Fest 2020.

Jessie and James would no longer appear starting on September 30th, 2020. They had increased appearance from September 22nd, at 12:00 a.m. to September 30th, at 11:59 p.m. local time. Also, the rate of balloons increased to every three-hour period starting on September 17th.

Jessie and James returned in Secrets of the Jungle Event. They guide the Trainer in the Special ResearchDistracted by Something Shiny. They have left the game on February 28th 2021.

How To Beat Jessie And James In February 2021

One of the biggest benefits of facing off against Jessie and James in Pokémon GO is that they offer 2 mysterious components and 2 Shadow Pokémon to catch. This helps you with many things, such as the current quests to beat the Team GO Rocket Leaders. So defeating them is a big boost to your goals, so knowing how to beat them is a big help.

Thankfully they dont use shields like the leaders do, so you dont have to worry about burning off their two shields right away. However, one of the downsides to facing them is that they use very strong Pokémon as their starters in combat. So defeating them can be tough if you struggle to get past them.

Swapping Pokémon will still pause combat though, letting you deliver a couple of quick attacks with no retaliation. To take advantage of this you can put a weaker Pokémon up first then immediately swap to your real counter. We break down the best counters for all of Jessie and James Pokémon below.

How To Find Jessie And James In Pokmon Go

If you want to battle either Jessie or James, then you need to keep your eyes on the sky for that floating Meowth.

Finding Jessie and James in Pokémon Go works exactly like finding the Team Rocket Balloons, which means that you have the chance to encounter their balloon at least four times a day – depending on how lucky you are, of course.

If you want to find them, then we recommend looking at the Pokémon Go map on maximum zoom. This will not only give you the best view of the sky, but will allow you to spot the shadow of their balloon moving across the map more easily.

If you see that shadow, look above you in-game, because there’s a chance that’s the Meowth balloon you’re looking for.

Each Meowth balloon contains encounters with both Jessie and James, so you get two Team Rocket encounters for the price of one. If you quit out of the second encounter, just tap the Meowth balloon again to resume.

This break allows you to heal up, or progress your Battle Go Fest Challenge if you need to progress to the next ‘defeat a Rocket grunt’ step.

Pokemon Go Jessie And James Best Counters And New Lineups

HOW TO BEAT *JESSIE & JAMES* in POKEMON GO (OCTOBER 2021)

Trainers, the Team Go Rocket Leaders Jessie and James, and their Meowth balloon will be returning in the game, and just like the TGR Leaders and Giovanni, they have their own Pokemon lineups, and to beat them, youll need the best counters.

They use three different sets of Pokemon and they seem extremely difficult to beat. But dont worry, weve made a list of the best counters to use against Jessie and James and you can find it below.

The two Team Go Rocket Leaders Jessie and James are coming back and this time they are coming back stronger than ever! They will be floating in the air in their unique Meowth balloon and making plans on how to take over the Pokemon Go world.

Jessie and James use their own Pokemon lineups in a battle and we must use our own Pokemon lineups to beat them easily.

NOTE: Meowth Balloon spawn every 2 hours: 8 AM-10 AM 10 AM-12 PM, 12 PM-2 PM and so on.

Which Pokemon Can Beat These Team Rocket Minions

To learn how to beat Jesse and James, trainers will need to know about their Pokemon lineup. Unlike Arlo, Sierra and Cliff, who have multiple Pokemon to choose from, Jesse and James bring the same team to every match. Their Pokemon are as follows.

Jesses team:

  • Koffing
  • Grimer

An observant trainer will notice right off the bat that both Jesse and James have two big weaknesses: Psychic and Ground. The Team Rocket Duo, like in the anime, focuses on Poison-type Pokemon, meaning trainers can exploit this weakness.

Bringing a Psychic or Ground-type Pokemon to these battles automatically takes care of three of their six collective Pokemon . Trainers will definitely want to start there and round out their team by countering the other three.

Fortunately, there is a Bug-type on each team, which is another weakness to exploit. Any trainer with a Fire-type, Rock-type or Flying-type can steamroll both of these Pokemon.

Notably, Rock-types are the best way to go here. This is because Scyther is both Bug-type and Flying-type each takes super effective damage from Rock. Even a Pokemon thats unevolved or has lower CP can beat Scyther by spamming strong Rock-type moves.

Jesse James And Meowth Have Blasted Off Again

Jesse and James are no longer available to challenge, but they are sure to return at some point in the future. Their previous line ups weren’t particularly difficult to beat, especially since neither used their shields.

Previously, Jesse’s lineup included:

  • Scyther: a Bug and Flying type, Scyther has several weaknesses, including Fire, Flying, Electric, and Ice, but it’s quad weakness to Rock is the one you’ll want to exploit. Aggron, Rampardos, Rhyperior, Golem, Terrakion, or Tyranitar all work really well here.
  • Ekans: a Poison type, Ekans is weak against Ground and Psychic types. However, Ekans is pretty weak. Mewtwo, Alakazm, or Gardevoir could all work well here. Alternatively, you could put in Metagross or whatever Pokémon you plan to use against Stantler, in order to build up their charged attack.
  • Stantler: as a Normal type, Stantler’s only weakness is Fighting types. However, because of its potential moveset, Steel and Rock types are your best bet here. Metagross, Regirock, Jirachi, or Cobalion are all great choices here.

After beating Jesse, James’ lineup included:

Upon beating Jesse, you could catch a Shadow Scyther with the potential to be Shiny, and upon beating James, you could catch a Shadow Pinsir with the potential to be Shiny.

Note: Jesse and James fulfill the requirements for beating two Team GO Rocket Grunts in Research tasks.

Jessie And James Counters And Differences In Pokmon Go

Jessie and James are similar to the Go Rocket Team Leaders in that they have unique character models and certain fixed Pokémon.

When facing Jessie in Pokémon Go, you’ll start the battle facing Shadow Scyther every time, whereas James will feature a Shadow Pinsir in their line-up.

Once you’ve defeated Jessie’s Shadow Scyther, you’ll have to defeat Ekans and Stantler.

While Jessie has a mixture of Pokémon types, they are all weak to steel-type Pokémon, so grab your strongest steel-type Pokémon, such as a Metagross, Dialga or Excadrill, and start demolishing her team. If you don’t have many steel-types, Jessie’s team are also weak to rock, psychic and fire-types.

Aside from Shadow Pinsir, James’ team also consists of Koffing and Grimer.

Since James’ team literally consists of one bug-type and two poison-type Pokémon, it’s very easy to plan out which Pokémon you should use against it.

Pinsir will be easily defeated by any strong fire-type Pokémon and, once it’s taken care of, you’ll have the choice of your psychic and ground-type Pokémon for Grimmer and Koffing.

Remember – Jessie and James are closer to a standard Rocket Grunt in difficulty than a Team Leader, so for counter recommendations, you can get away with just throwing your most powerful creatures at them regardless of type.

The reward for each is the chance to catch Shadow Scyther and Shadow Pinsir respectively – both of which have the chance to be shiny.

How To Find Jessie & James In Pokemon Go

If youre looking to find Jessie and James in Pokemon Go, youll need to keep your eye on the skyline to make sure you dont miss them floating by. Unlike the Team Go Rocket Grunts, Jessie and James appear in a Meowth-themed balloon.

The best way to do this is to zoom out so you can see the full skyline above your avatar, especially if you notice a shadow on the floor. Once you spot them, tap the balloon to start the battle.

Jessie and James will be appearing in Pokemon Go from Friday, October 1, 2021, at 10am until Sunday, October 10, 2021, at 8pm local time. They spawn four times a day at six-hour intervals, so its best to check regularly.

Below, were going to explore both James and Jessies lineup in Pokemon Go, and the best counters you should be using to take advantage of their weaknesses. So prepare for trouble, and make it double!
