Which Buddy Pokmon Should You Walk

It depends on what you need.

If you need candy, you should continue to walk with Pokémon that you need candy for. If youre low on Larvitar candy and youre trying to power up your Tyranitar, consider walking with it a bit.

Another option is to walk with Pokémon that you want the Best Buddy CP bonus on. Set a good attacker like Chandelure as your buddy and rake in both candy and a power boost once you hit the highest friendship level.

The last option is just to walk with whatever Pokémon you like. If you think Ferroseeds rolling animation is funny, use that. If you cant stand to be apart from your Shiny Bulbasaur, thats fine, too. Live your truth!

Making a Pokemon your buddy means that you earn candy for that particular Pokemon type every time you walk a certain distance. For example, if you were walking with Grotle, youd be earning Turtwig candy. The rarer a Pokemon is, the longer you need to walk to earn one candy.

• 1 kilometre = 1 candy
• 20 kilometres = 1 candy

There are two small exceptions to these rules:

• If the player is level 40 or higher, theres a chance that their buddy will find a candy XL instead of the regular kind
• Buddy Pokemon can be excitedand when they are, their usual distance requirement is halved

Buddy Levels And Perks

Earning Affection hearts allows Trainer to progress toward improving their Buddy Level. Similarly to Friendship Levels, each Buddy Level unlocks special perks.

Unlike Buddys Mood, Buddy Levels do not decrease over time, much like Friendship Levels.

Following perks are available for Good Buddy level.

Adventuring Buddy

Buddy will appear on the Map when it is fed enough and their hunger meter is full. While on the Map, buddy will earn Candy at a reduced walking distance.

Readable Mood

An excited Wailord

Interacting with Buddy improves their Mood. It decreases over time. Swapping buddies reset it back to Normal. Excited is the most positive mood, which doubles the Affection Hearts that could be earned and the candy walking distance is halved when excited.

Once Buddy achieves Good Buddy level, the Mood indicator appears on the Buddy Profile screen. If Buddy is on the map, Trainer can also tap their buddy to see its Mood.

Following perks are available for Great Buddy level.

When Buddy Pokémon reaches Great Buddy level it can occasionally bring Trainer a present which are items inside of floral sack.

To open such present, Trainer has to open Buddy profile page and they will see a sack in front of their Buddy. Once they tap on it, the items will be received. These presents can contain items, such as Poké Balls, Potions, Berries, Revives, and stickers from Gifts.

How Does Your Buddy Find Presents

Once youve reached the Great Buddy level with a Pokémon, it can find your presents while youre out adventuring. These include Berries, Potions, and Revives. It would seem as though these Presents only happen once per day and the only time that a Present is guaranteed is the day your Buddy levels up to a Great Buddy.

Selecting And Changing Buddy

To select a Pokémon as a Buddy Pokémon for the first time, Trainer needs to:

• tap on Trainers portrait in the bottom left corner of the Map View,
• in the Trainer’s profile screen, tap the Buddy button to select a Buddy Pokémon.

After selecting, the first Buddy Pokémon, it cannot be removed but only swapped with another Pokémon.

Once Trainer selected a Pokémon as their Buddy, they can access their Buddy Profile screen in two ways:

To swap out Buddy Pokémon, Trainer needs to:

• go to their Buddy Profile screen and tap the Swap Buddies button at the very bottom of the page.

Trainer can view Pokémon they have previously set as their Buddy by tapping the Buddy History button that is located below the Trainer level progress bar in the Trainer’s profile screen. Trainer can also Swap Buddy Pokémon from the Buddy History page.

Trainers can only swap out their Buddy Pokémon 20 times per day.

What Is Buddy Adventure

The Buddy Adventure update was released by Niantic in late 2019. It gave Trainers the ability to designate a Pokémon as their Buddy and slowly build a bond with them. Trainers could feed them treats in augmented reality , play with them, and even walk around the world map together. As the friendship grows, Trainers also gain access to a host of perks such as CP boosts and new items.

Here’s how to complete tasks that ask you to play with your Buddy Pokemon.

In Pokemon Go, you may sometimes come across Research tasks that ask you to play with your Buddy Pokemon. For instance, one of the Johto tasks in the Throwback Challenge event ask you to play with your Buddy.

But how do you actually play with your Buddy? Thankfully, its a really simple process, and were here to show you how it works!

When you want to play with your Buddy Pokemon, youll need to interact with it through the games AR camera view. To do this, first tap on your Buddys picture when viewing the world map.

Then tap the large Play! button.

Follow the directions to find a suitable location where you can place the Pokemon in front of you on the screen. From there, as Eurogamer reported, all you have to do is rub your finger back and forth on your Pokemon to cause them to react. This should count as playing with your Buddy. If you have an active task that wants to you play with your Buddy, you’ll see a notifcation appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen when you’ve successfully “played” with them.

Keep in mind that swiping on your Pokemon may also cause them to react and move, but this doesnt count as actually playing with them.

The focus of this weeks challenges is friendship and will require you to play with your Buddy. Those who have played the game for a while now may have seen Buddy challenges before as well, but in case youve forgotten or dont know what to do lets quickly go over how to play with your Buddy in Pokemon GO.

Berries And Buddy Mood

Feeding your Buddy Berries will fill up its Hunger meter. As time goes on, your Buddy will get hungry and its mood will reduce. There are 6 segments in the Hunger meter and each segment lasts for 30 minutes. Your Buddy will deplete the entire Hunger meter in 3 hours.

Depending on the type of Berry you use, the Hunger meter will fill up differently:

• Razz Berry, Pinap Berry and Nanab Berry grant 2 bars
• Golden Razz Berry and Silver Pinap Berry grant 6 bars

Swapping out your Buddy will make it Hungry instantly, which can be useful to quickly collect Affection Hearts for this category. Be careful, as walking distance will be reset on swap.

Your Buddy will become hungry even if the game is not running.

What Is Buddy Adventure Anyway

Buddy Adventure is a new way to interact with your Pokémon in Pokémon Go. Its similar to how Ashs Pikachu didnt like to stay in his ball and preferred to follow him. With Buddy Adventure, your Buddy Pokémon can follow you on the map, and will even interact with you and help you on your journey. None of this happens automatically though. Like any friendship, you have to put in the work with your Buddy Pokémon too. There are things you can do to build up your Buddy Level and if you keep at it, youll eventually be Best Buddies.
