It also lets you hatch and catch higher level Pokémon from eggs and in the wild, and power up your Pokémon’s CP and HP, so they survive longer and do more damage in battles.
The amount of XP you need to level up is different for different levels. For example, it only takes 1,000 XP to go from level one to level two. But it takes 25,000 XP to go from 19 to 20, and a whopping 5,000,000 XP to go from 39 to 40. Getting to level 40 takes a combined 20,000,000 XP
Curve Balls Almost Double Your Catch Chances
Youve got a lot of options if you want to catch difficult Pokémon, and the numbers are only going up as the game receives more and more updates.
Originally you could use Great or Ultra Balls to increase your chances. a Great Ball would increase your chances by 1.5x and an Ultra Ball would double them to 2x.
You could also time your throws to get Great or Excellent Throws which would give you a 1.3x and 1.5x bonus appropriately.
Later, Niantic added Razz Berries, which increased your chances as much as a Great Ball.
The problem with all of these, is that theyre finite resources that you have to work quite hard to get, and theres a much easier way to increase your chances.
Theyre called curve balls, and you pull them off by spinning the Poké ball before you throw it at your target. Doing this gets you a 1.7x bonus, which is better than both Razz Berries and Great Balls.
Of course, if youre really desperate , then you can combine these tactics to devastating effect.

To perform the fast catch trick in Pokemon Go on Android, the first step is to get into a Pokemon encounter. Once you do, throw a Pokeball at your target. As soon as the ball connects with the Pokemon youre trying to capture, press the Back button on the bottom navigation bar. At this point, you should be back on the map screen, and, if you managed to catch it, the Pokemon should be in your storage.
As you might have surmised by now, this little trick works only on Android devices that have the bottom navigation bar. So, if youre playing via iOS, youre out of luck. Second, this method does not guarantee that youll catch the Pokemon youre after. The only thing it does is help you to go through the capturing process faster specifically, it lets you jump over the Pokeball shaking animation.
