Pokemon GO Mewtwo is a legendary Psychic-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO and is known as a high tier generalist. It comes from the Kanto region and possesses a top Combat Power of 4178 in the game. It is one of the most recognised Pokemon creatures that comes with a destructive moveset.

Which Are The Best Moves For The Most Powerful Pokemon In The Game
Both of Mewtwos quick moves have their merits, but Confusion is generally better. Psycho Cut generates more energy than Confusion, but the difference is negligible compared to the damage difference. Confusion has a base 20 power, which far outclasses Psycho Cuts 5 power.
In terms of charge moves, every Mewtwo should have a STAB Psychic move, and a choice coverage move. For the Psychic move, Psystrike is slightly better than Psychic, but both are acceptable.
Both of these moves only require half of the energy bar to use, and have 90 base power. The only real difference between the moves is that Psystrikes animation ends a tad bit quicker, therefore resulting in higher DPS. Of course, Elite TMs can be scarce, and other Pokemon may need them more. Its not always necessary to waste the Elite TM on Mewtwo, then, who works fine with Psychic.
Mewtwo then gets to pick from a handful of great coverage moves. From a pure damage standpoint, however, Shadow Ball is the preferred pick. This move has slightly higher DPS than other options like Flamethrower, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt.
Damage isnt the only thing, though. Trainers also have to look at utility. What Shadow Ball allows Mewtwo to do is become a great counter to opposing Psychic-types. In fact, many Psychic-types, like Deoxys Defense Forme, have Mewtwo as one of their best raid counters, simply because it can learn Shadow Ball. Mewtwo can also counter popular Pokemon with this move, like Metagross and Giratina.
Pokemon Go Raid For July 2021 Is Mewtwo
Mewtwo is currently part of raids for July 2021. Mewtwo and Armored Mewtwo have been in the regular rotation of five-star raid for Pokemon GO for quite some time now. So if you miss catching on this month, there will most likely be more opportunities to do so in the future. Mewtwo has also been part of a Pokemon GO Tour event from February of this year and was part of the rewards for defeating Team Rocket back in October of 2020. There is also a chance that players of Pokemon GO will see a Mega Mewtwo evolution sometime in the coming months.
That being said, once the Pokemon GO Fest with Mewtwo as the five star raid boss is over this July, Mewtwo will most likely pop up again as a prize if players missed their chances of catching it this time.
In order to get the Mewtwo for this month, players will need to defeat then catch the Mewtwo in the Go Fest 2021 raid. The best counters for the well-known psychic Pokemon are:
- Gengar Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball
- Yveltal Snarl/Dark Pulse
- Tyranitar Bite/Crunch
After defeating the raid, players will have a limited amount of time to catch the defeated Mewtwo. Use Premier balls and Razz Berries to catch em before the Mewtwo escapes.

What If You Don’t Have The Best Movesets In Pokmon Go
Since the introduction of the Raid Battle system in June 2017, you can get Technical Machines to change your movesets. Two of the possible rewards for beating Raid Bosses are Quick TM and Fast TM, which can be used to change Quick Moves and Charge Moves respectively. Regular TMs are completely random and cannot access Legacy Moves.
Legacy Moves are special moves that were once available for a Pokémon but are no longer. Sometimes they were removed when Niantic re-balanced the game. Some were only available on Community Day or in special Raids. Either way, if a Legacy Move happens to be the best possible move for a Pokémon and you don’t have it, you cannot get it with a normal TM. Before you use a TM on any Pokémon, you should always check to see if the move you’re changing is a Legacy Move and if that move is worth having. A lot of Legacy Moves don’t perform well, but some of them are the best moves in the game.
More recently, Niantic introduced Elite TMs. These TMs are rare, and often difficult to get or expensive, but allow you to choose from any move a Pokémon can have, including Legacy Moves. They aren’t random either. You get to choose the move. Because of how hard it is to get Elite TMs, you’ll want to save them for your very best Pokémon, but hey, now you can have a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball and Psystrike!
