Just like previous years, this month’s event spans not one, but two days — — and gives players another chance to catch all of the featured Community Day Pokemon from 2020 and 2021. Here’s everything you need to know about this weekend’s event, including what Pokemon are returning and which special moves they can learn.
When Is The Community Day For Pokemon Go In December 2021
The Community Day in Pokemon GO in December is going to be huge, so trainers are definitely going to want to mark it on their calendar.
Community Days usually feature only one Pokemon. This upcoming Community Day in December, though, will feature multiple Pokemon at one time. There are also, as usual, several bonuses trainers can take advantage of.

Trainers, the next Community Day event in Pokemon Go is going live on November 21, 2021, and Shinx will be the featured Pokemon.
The Electric-type Pokemon from the Sinnoh region Shinx is the November 2021 Community Day Pokemon. The official Pokemon Go Brazil Twitter account made an early announcement and immediately deleted the tweet. Fortunately, players were fast enough to take a screenshot and upload it on social media.

Its December, and that means another super Pokémon Go Community Day, which is in fact a Community Weekend, given that it spans both today, Saturday December 18, and Sunday December 19, running from 11 AM to 5 PM local time.
So, this gets a bit complicated with this many Pokémon on the table. Heres the list of which Pokémon will be spawning on which day this weekend:

Pokemon GO first introduced what is known as a Community Day back in 2018 with a focus on Pikachu and has become a monthly occurrence ever since, leading people to consistently wonder when is the next Pokemon GO Community Day as soon as the current one ends.
Community Day is a focus typically on one specific Pokemon, though we have had special instances where it was on multiple, such as the one that featured multiple past Community Day Pokemon.

How useful is this Community Day?
Coming off the back of the Holidays 2021 event – which saw a costumed Spheal and the introduction of a shiny Spheal – it’s strange to have this highlighted so soon in Community Day.
That said, January is a fitting time for an ice Pokémon – and the introduction of two new moves gives this some real potential in the ice and water typing stakes. How it’ll fit into the meta exactly is unknown – but it’ll be worth trying to catch a strong one and evolving it during the event if you can.
The bonus, of course, is perhaps the other real reason to get involved – with Spheal being an easy creature to get an Excellent throw, and with 3x Catch XP up for grabs, combined with a Lucky Egg there’s the opportunity to gather a lot of XP during the six hour window. Just make sure you wrap up warm and take plenty of breaks!
Pokemon Go December Community Day Pokemon Encounters Raids And Eggs
During the Pokemon Go December Community Day event, certain Pokemon will appear to trainers in the overworld just by walking around or popping an incense.
The following Pokemon will appear more frequently on Saturday, December 18: Machop, Roselia, Swablu, Gible, Snivy, and Fletchling. The following Pokemon will appear more frequently on Sunday, December 19: Eevee, Duskull, Shinx, Tepig, and Oshawott.
It should be noted that all of the above Pokemon will be attracted to incense regardless of what day it is.
As for Eggs, there will be Pokemon from past Community Days hatching from 2km Eggs found in PokeStops during the two-day event. Charmander, Weedle, Abra, Gastly, Rhyhorn, Magikarp, Porygon, Elekid, Magby, Seedot, Piplup, and Budew will be hatching from 2km Eggs.
Raids during the two-day Community Day will also be populated by Pokemon that were originally spotlighted in 2020. This gives trainers another great chance to catch some powerful Pokemon with great stats.
Here are the Pokemon that will begin appearing in Raids on Saturday and Sunday: Charmander, Weedle, Abra, Gastly, Magikarp, Seedot, Rhyhorn, Piplup, Electabuzz, Magmar, and Porygon.

Pokemon Go December Community Day Exclusive Moves
Community Days are great for introducing new moves to certain Pokemon and this months festivities are bringing back the ability to teach spotlight Pokemon from 2020 and 2021 these special attacks.
As a reminder, trainers just have to evolve particular Pokemon into their final evolution within a certain event window. However, for this event Pokemon Go will allow players to teach these exclusive moves starting Friday, December 17 at 1pm EST until Monday, December 20 at 1pm EST.
Trainers will need to stock up on certain Pokemons Candy to get them to evolve. Using Pinap Berries while catching Pokemon will double the candy earned when obtaining Pokemon. Itll make evolving Pokemon a lot easier.
Anyone who misses out on this opportunity can still teach their Pokemon these exclusive moves as long as they use an Elite TM, but these are very hard to come by. So if you have a particular Pokemon youre looking to teach these new moves to, youre better off doing so using the evolution method.

May 2021 Featured Pokemon: Swablu
This months featured Pokemon is Swablu, the pre-evolved form of Altaria. All throughout the event, Swablu will appear in the wild much more frequently than normal, making this a good opportunity to stock up on Swablu Candy. Youll want to take this chance while you can like Magikarp, Swablu requires a whopping 400 Candy to evolve, so youll need to catch a ton of them if youre hoping to get Altaria.
Youll also have a chance to encounter Shiny Swablu during the event. This variant is yellow rather than blue, so youll be able to immediately tell if youve found one. Like other Shiny Pokemon, however, it will be rare, but youll have more opportunities to encounter a Shiny Swablu if you use an Incense during the event.

How To Prepare For Pokmon Go Community Day
First of all, the secret allure of Community Day is the introduction of a shiny version of the highlighted Pokémon, which will have a boosted rate during the event. That, combined with the increased spawns, makes it easy to get a a handful of shinies across the six hours.
Remember, unlike high IV Pokémon, shinies don’t appear in the same place for everyone like high-IV Pokémon – there’s a random chance of each one you encounter could be a shiny. If you’re struggling, try ‘shiny checking’, by tapping a Pokémon, then backing out without catching, then moving on to the next.
Second, there will be bonus Field Research. Community Days also have their own special Field Research tasks based on the specific Pokémon the day is highlighting. The rewards are usually just consumable items – Berries and the like – but it’s an additional thing to complete as you play.
Third, every Community Day offers 3-Hour Lures. This is the perfect day to catch as many Pokémon as physically possible, and with the increased spawn rate, increase your chances of finding a shiny.
The best way to take advantage of these bonuses is to find a set of PokéStops that are in quick walking distance or one another. You can then set up a Lure Module in one and then walk between the PokéStops taking advantage of the Lure and ensuring that you don’t run out of Poké Balls or Berries.
Hatching Xp Or Stardust Boosts
Niantic adds one last perk into the Community Day package:
- A 3x increase for XP gained from catching a Pokémon, or
- A 3x increase fo Stardust gained from catching a Pokémon, or
- A 4x increase for Egg hatching speed
These perks stack with rate increasing items So consider stocking up Lucky Eggs, Star Pieces and Super Incubators, to further boost their respective perks.

Oshawott Community Day is, as always with the starter Pokémon Community Days, perfect for trainers who havent been able to add this Pokémon or their full evolution line to their Pokédex yet. With the increased Oshawott spawns and a healthy supply of Pinap Berries, youll quickly be able to gather all of the Candy you need to complete these evolutions.
This Community Day is also great for shiny hunters, because it sees the release of the shiny forms for Oshawott and the members of its evolution line. Here the increased spawns will help again help in tracking down the Pokémon you need!

How Do I Make The Most Of December Community Day
Tons of bonuses will be active from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day in your local time, so you should take advantage. Catch XP and Stardust will be doubled, and Incubators will hatch eggs in half the steps, so you should use any bonus items that you have.

From Dec. 17-20, players will also get to do one extra special trade per day, and trades will cost 25% less Stardust, so if you have good Pokémon to swap around, this is also a great time to do it.
That all being said, if youre missing any of the above Community Day Pokémon or their evolutions, you should definitely use an Incense and catch what you can.
