Exchange Gifts With Pokemon Go Friends To Increase Your Friendship Level
It’s not just a case of becoming Pokemon Go friends with someone though. There are levels of friendship you can increase you by trading together, battling in raids or Gym battles together, and also by exchanging gifts.
Every time you visit a PokeStop you’ll be in with a chance of receiving a Gift you can send to anyone on your friends list. These gifts contain useful items like potions and PokeBalls, and eggs that will eventually hatch into various Pokemon. You can only send one gift a day to each friend, but doing so builds your trainer level.
There are four levels of friendship that you can achieve with another player:
- Good Friend
- Great Friend
- Ultra Friend
- Best Friend
The good news is you only need to be Good Friends with someone to start trading with them , and you can get there by giving each other one gift.
However, if you want to trade for Pokemon you haven’t already caught, you’ll have to upgrade your friendship level to at least Great Friends.
Increasing your friend level with another player gets you a tonne of perks. When you’re Great Friends or above, you can battle at Gyms or in Raids together, gaining attack bonuses and Raid bonuses. Those perks only increase as your friendship level rises too, so get gifting.
What Are Special Trades In Pokemon Go
A Special Trade in Pokemon Go will help you trade Pokemon that canât be traded using the standard trade. Legendary and Shiny Pokemon are the two creatures that you can only trade with a Special Trade.
Itâs also important to understand that a special trade is different from your standard trades. Why? Because you can only use one Special Trade in a single day. Also, for Special Trades, the Stardust cost increases exponentially.

Lucky Friends And Lucky Pokmon
The best possible trade you can make is with someone youve become Lucky Friends with. To become Lucky Friends with someone, you must already be Best Friends with them first. All you must do from there is continue to send each other gifts and do battles together. Eventually, you will achieve Lucky Friend status. However, note that you only have one shot at becoming Lucky Friends each day, so you only need to send a gift and or a battle together once per day. You will both receive a notification if youve achieved Lucky Friend Status.
If you trade a Pokémon with a Lucky Friend, that Pokémon will be considered a Lucky Pokémon. This means it will have guaranteed higher IVs and will cost less Stardust to trade. More than that, the Pokémon will also only take half as much Stardust to power up going forward as a normal Pokémon would. Note that just by completing a normal trade, there is always a chance a Pokémon could become Lucky, regardless of whether you are trading with a Lucky Friend.

You will have to pay Stardust, though. The amount depends on the rarity of the Pokemon youre trading and your Friendship Level with the other Trainer.
Weve listed the cost of evolving each of these Pokemon through Candies below, and you can see that the trading method takes out a lot of work.
- 100 Candy: Haunter, Graveler, Kadabra, and Machoke.
- 200 Candy: Boldore, Gurrdurr, Karrablast, Phantump, Pumpkaboo, and Shelmet.
Once youve found another player to connect with and trade, youve saved a lot of Candy and a lot of time trying to get that specific Pokemon evolution you want.
Try Not To Go It Alone
It certainly helps Pokemon GO players to have a friend, however, and a good one at that. To truly take advantage of the candy discount, players will need to coordinate and ensure they trade two evolving creatures between them, which can be tough without having someone to coordinate with closely.
Luckily for Pokemon GO players that prefer to go it alone, they are still in luck. What separates the Trade Evolution mechanic in Pokemon GO apart from the other installments of the franchise is that Pokemon can still be evolved using traditional methods. It will just cost more Candy, unfortunately.
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.

Pokemon Go Trading Criteria
As I said, trading in Pokemon Go is different from other Pokemon games. There is a dedicated criterion that youâll have to follow to trade in Pokemon Go.
1) Be level 10 or above
In Pokemon Go, players are only allowed to trade items if they are at a Level 10 or above. So, if youâve just started playing Pokemon Go, you might have to first get more XP and increase your level.
While there are different ways to level-up in Pokemon Go, the following few tricks will help you quickly reach Level 10.
- Mass raiding is the best way to increase your XP in Pokemon Go. For each mass raid, youâll get 10,000XP, which you can even double using a lucky egg.
- Instead of regular raids, it would be better to battle 5-star legendary rates and defeat the raid boss. This will give you 10,000XP and again you can double these points using a lucky egg.
- Using curveballs to catch Pokemon will give you extra XP in the game.
2) Be friends in Pokemon Go with the trainer you are trading with
So, once youâre at level 10, the next check-point would be to ensure that youâre friends with the trainer, with whom you want to trade, in Pokemon Go. As per the guidelines, only friends can participate in Pokemon Go trading.
3) Be within 100 meters of the target trainer in real life
The answer is Yes! Thereâs a trick, called location spoofing in Pokemon GO, thatâll help you trade with your friends, even if they live in a completely different city.
