According to Pokemon dataminer Kurt Kaphotics, the starter Pokemon you receive at the beginning of the game cannot be shiny. This means you cant soft reset Sword and Shield until you get shinies, as some players did in past titles. The starters can still be bred to hatch shiny Pokemon from eggs later on, however.

Where To Catch Ditto In Pokemon Sword And Pokemon Shield
Like every Pokemon game, breeding in Pokemon Swordand Pokemon Shieldcan be an important part of shiny hunting. To breed Pokemon you need to drop two Pokemon off at the Pokemon Nursery along route 5. If a red light is not already shining at Den J, players will need to use a Wishing Piece to start a Max Raid and face Dynamax Pokemon there.
Wishing Pieces are available from the Watt Shop for 3000 Watts apiece, and are also available after clearing the Hall of Fame as the initial prize of the Final Tournament in Wyndon.

Where To Find Ditto
Ditto is only found in one location: the strip of land across from the Lake of Outrage in the Wild Area. However, the only way to get to it is by riding your bike over the water, so you’ll need to have gotten far enough in the game to do that. Additionally, the Pokémon in this area tend to range from level 50 to level 58 so you might not be able to catch a Ditto for quiet a while.
Ditto is very easy to miss. It only spawns 20% of the time and even then the much larger Pokémon that also appear in this area can easily distract you from seeing one. You’ll be looking for a super small purple blob that can’t see over the grass. Fortunately, it appears in all types of weather. Once you engage it in battle you simply fight and catch it the way you would with any other Pokémon.
How To Catch Shiny Pokemon Easily
The more of the same type of Pokemon youve caught or battled, the more likely you will encounter a Shiny version of them in the wild. Also, the more you encounter a certain Pokemon, the more likely theyll appear in the Wild Area, too! So, if you have your eye on a certain Shiny Pokemon, run into them as often as possible. Your chain in Sword and Shield is permanent, which you can check by looking at your Pokedex.

Catch A Ditto With An Aura
Make Ditto Transform Into Magikarp
When you encounter a Ditto with an aura, switch your Pokemon to Magikarp. Ditto transforms into Magikarp, making it easier to capture it. Use a Repeat ball to increase your chance to catch it.
Use False Swipe to Lower Ditto HP to 1
You can also maximize your chances of catching a Ditto with Brilliant Aura using the move “False Swipe”. This attack can lower the Ditto’s HP to 1 in order to greatly increase the chances of catching it!

Max Raid Shiny Pokmon
There exists one other method for hunting Shiny Pokémon, and its from Max Raid battles. As explained in this video, the best way involves manipulating the date system of your Nintendo Switch, and comes down to whether a particular Den housing Max Raid Pokémon will have Pokémon set as Shiny or not. It takes advantage of the fact that all attributes of a Pokémon possible to be found in a Den are set upon using a Wishing Piece for four days. This wont work for promoted Gigantamax-Pokémon, and if you want multiple Shiny Pokémon, this method relies on you resetting the game multiple times, allowing friends invited to the Max Raids to catch them for you, and trading any spares to you afterwards.
Beforehand, turn off the auto-save option, and turn the text speed to a lower setting. The steps are as follows :
- Save the game in front of a Den.
- Change the date forward by one day, three times .
- Check if the Pokémon is Shiny. If yes, celebrate!
- If not Shiny, reload the game, move forward one day , and save the game.
- Repeat the above steps until you find a Shiny!
How To Use Ditto For Nursery Parenting
Parenting is a very important part of the gaming experience both in Pokémon Sword and Shield as in all the previous ones. This activity is used by all trainers to obtain offspring of their species and for their Pokémon to finally lay eggs. This process is carried out in the Pokémon Nursery, where you must leave two Pokémon of the opposite gender and that are from the common egg group.

Although Ditto can use a move to transform, it’s better to have its Hidden Ability so that it transforms automatically when entering battle. When transforming, Ditto takes on all stats of the enemy Pokemon except HP. This is why you need Max HP IVs and EVs.

Resetting For A Ditto In The Den
While it has yet to be confirmed if this corrupts the save file, do the steps below at your own risk.
The amount of watts you collect is increased by four times after completing the main story. As such, your best bet is to finish the game before doing the steps outlined below.
When throwing a wishing piece, there is a brief time frame between spawning the dynamax Pokemon and saving the game. This short pause can be used to reset your game since the game has not overwritten your file yet. When done successfully, you will return to the spot before you tried saving your game.
The goal is to force purple light to come out of the den. If the light is not purple or the Pokemon isnt Ditto, repeat these steps to retrieve your wishing piece. Prior to doing the method, go to your configuration and set the text speed to slow to make it easier to interrupt the screen later on.

Ditto is one of the most important Pokémon in every game. The purple blob-like monster enables players to breed whatever Pokémon they want as long as its species is capable of doing so. This makes it really easy to get all of the moves or abilities you want on a level one Pokémon right out of the egg.
In Sword and Shield you can only find Ditto in one place, and it is the most overcrowded area in the entire game: the Lake of Outrage zone in the Wild Area.
Thankfully it isnt a weather-dependent encounter like the majority of Pokémon found in the Wild Area. Rather, it sits at a constant 10 percent chance in both the overworld and as a random grass encounter.
Even though you can reach Lake of Outrage as soon as you unlock the Rotom Bike upgrade that lets you cross water, it will always be a level 55 or over encounter. This means youll likely need to collect every gym badge before being able to catch it. Otherwise, you will start the battle and be unable to do anything outside of defeat it or run because of the Wild Area capture cap.
Since breeding is something trainers often wait to work on until they beat the main story, this placement is perfect since it provides a stable environment to snag the morphing little pile of goo.
