Pokemon Sword And Shield Update: Everything You Need To Know

*FINAL* Raid Den Update Pokemon Sword & Shield

| Dec 5, 2019

Pokemon Sword and Shield update is something fans have been looking forward to since the launch of the game. Most were disappointed by the initial Pokedex that was aligned with the game. Fans were expecting access to the full Pokedex, which would of allowed players to use every Pokemon in the series.

Pokemon Sword and Shield has garnered mixed reviews mainly based on technical bugs, lack of fully established features, and the national Pokedex not being in the game. However, with the update of Pokemon Sword and Shield we have some new things to look forward too. Here is everything you need to know.

Follower Pokmon On Mainland Galar

One of the best additions in The Isle of Armor is the return of following Pokémon in the Wild Area. It’s a little touch, and Pokémon have a hard time keeping up with the player, but it means a lot. It’s certainly odd to see Pokémon not properly to scale , but that’s okay to give up.

The only problem is that the follower Pokémon are limited to only the Isle of Armor. Despite the fact the technology is here, it’s locked behind a paywall and an entire new area. It would be a nice touch to see it on mainland Galar in future updates.

Occurred Due To Max Raids On June 29th

On June 29th , Pokemon Home was hit by a communication error, meaning it is currently unusable. This error seems to be causing in-game crashes for Pokemon Sword and Shield as well. A fix has yet to be implemented.

Avoid Max Raid Battles

This bug seems to be caused by participating in Max Raid Battles. We recommend players do not participate in new Max Raid Battles until this event is patched, as your game could crash.

Pokemon Sword And Pokemon Shield Update Out Now Patch Notes

Posted on May 11, 2021 by Brian in News, Switch

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have both been updated. The two games are now at version 1.3.2, which primarily involves bug fixes.

Below are the full patch notes:

  • Fixed the issue where some Pokemon icons were not properly displaying during online or local wireless battles.
  • Several issues have been fixed to improve gameplay experience.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield originally launched for Switch back in November 2019.

Pokemon Go Sword And Shield Updates Leaked

Pokemon Sword and Shield

This afternoon Pokemon GO data appeared in the latest update to the APK file for the game. Per data shared in the latest update, Niantic is preparing Pokemon for not only Generation 8 , but the rest of the Pokemon generations that are already in the game in part. This is not the first time Niantic has indicated that Sword, Shield, and beyond will be fully integrated into Pokemon GO.

If you’re taking a peek at the Pokeminer’s update today, you’ll find expanded sets of moves for both Generation 8 and Generation 6 Pokemon in the mix. This is just the latest in a line of updates readying the game for more Sword and Shield action as Niantic continues to face scrutiny for removing pandemic play as global COVID-19 cases continue to ramp back up entering the 2021 Fall school season.

Also appearing in said update, Pokeminer-harvested data could be seen showing new Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Gym Uniform clothing items. This includes a new Default Uniform in white and blue, a dark blue and orange Dragon uniform, and a black and pink Dark uniform. Shoes and gloves were pushed to the game as well.

It’s entirely possible that these assets will not make it to the final build of the game, but their appearance in the game’s APK file package generally indicates they’ll be released in the near future. In addition to the bits of clothing in the game, config update files released today showed new core features regarding Pokemon Gym functionality.

Update: Pokemon Sword And Shield Triggers Switch Exfat Driver Bug

Update: In what was originally believed to be an issue with Pokemon Sword and Shield it turns out that this issue is related to a problem with the Nintendo Switch OS itself. While many who play games on the Nintendo Switch wouldn’t have come across this bug it’s apparently well known in the homebrew and modding scene. User CTCaer explained it in a github issue thread as follows:

The bug is in Nintendo’s exfat driver. It constantly changes folders/files even on reads. And because it never syncs properly, on a hang/force quit/force reboot/power off, the handles are lost and the files/folders become missing from the file allocation table. Because exFAT does not have a 2nd FAT like fat32, these file/folders cannot be recovered.

This is something that modders have come across but it just seems no commercial game has had this issue, or at least been as big a game as Pokemon. For now the best solution for people is to make sure that their SD cards are set up as fat32, if your SD card is exFAT then the best you can do is hope that you don’t encounter this issue.

The original story is listed below.

Original Story: Several players are reporting that Pokemon Sword and Shield is somehow managing to delete other game’s data. A Pokemon game having issues with save data isn’t anything new, but this is a somewhat odd situation it’s reportedly deleting the save data of other games.

As problems go, this is a pretty bad one. What’s causing it, and what can players do to fix it?

Easy Nature And Ability Changes

With Sword and Shield‘s launch, players were able to easily change a Pokemon’s nature thanks to the introduction of Nature Mints. These allows for a lot of forgiveness and flexibility when it came to breeding Pokemon and trying to get a solid Pokemon for competitive battling. However, it was not until The Crown Tundra that Pokemon Sword and Shield really peaked. In The Crown Tundra, Ability Patches were introduced, which allowed Pokemon to swap to their Hidden Ability, which is a huge deal for competitive Pokemon battles. Many Hidden Abilities completely change how some Pokemon work, and make a lot of Pokemon way more viable.

Consider Cinderace, who has the default ability of Blaze, which is nothing special. However, with the Ability Patch, Cinderace can now get Libero as an ability, which changes Cinderace’s type to the same type as the move it is about to use, giving it permanent STAB bonuses and throwing a wrench in type matchups. Hidden Abilities do not regularly appear on Pokemon, and are usually available in events, or given out as part of a distribution, so the fact that these were introduced to be used whenever completely changes the game for the better. Every future Pokemon title should have both the Mints as well as the Ability Patches.

Secret Changes / Further Details

Pokemon trainers will be snooping around in-game for secret changes for this patch, and there are some to be found at times.

Luckily for players, Serebii.net has provided some more information not mentioned in the notes. They have revealed a pesky Groudon and Kyogre bug has been patched. They posted:

Some new updates have gone live for Nintendo Switch Pokémon software. First Pokémon Sword & Shield has received a new update bringing the game to Version 1.3.2. This update provides various undisclosed bug fixes including ones with a few battle mechanics such as causing Trick to fail on Groudon and Kyogre.

Can Be Caught In

Gigantamax Snorlax is now available to catch in the Wild Area in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Gigantamax Snorlax is only available until January 5th, so make sure you catch it as soon as possible!

How To Catch Gigantamax Snorlax

Snorlax is a powerful and bulky Pokemon, so it’s recommended you bring strong Pokemon that can resist its moves. A Steel type is recommended. It’s highly recommended to take it on with other human players, as the Pokemon that AI bring are extremely weak and will be taken out by Snorlax easily.

New Pokemon Sword And Shield Event Features Gigantamax Kanto Starters

Players can encounter Gigantamax versions of Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise in raids until Feb. 27.

Gigantamax forms of Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise are appearing in Pokemon Sword and Shield for a limited time.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are holding a special Max Raid event to celebrate the series’ anniversary.

Until Feb. 27, Gigantamax forms of the original three starter Pokemon — Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise — are all appearing more frequently in Max Raid dens. Not only is this a good opportunity to catch the rare Pokemon if you haven’t yet, you’ll also receive a Max Mushroom and other rewards each time you defeat them. These mushrooms can be used in the Isle of Armor dojo to effectively teach other compatible Pokemon how to Gigantamax.

Before the featured Pokemon can begin appearing in your game, you must first refresh your Max Raid dens. You can do so either by connecting your game to the internet or by selecting Get the Wild Area News from the Mystery Gift menu. The event runs until 3:59 p.m. PT on Feb. 27.

The Pokemon Company has dubbed Feb. 27 “Pokemon Day,” as it marks the date the original Pokemon Red and Green games first launched in Japan. The company will announce more updates and events for other Pokemon games each day in the lead up to the anniversary.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are the primary paired versions of Generation VIII. The games were released on the Nintendo Switch worldwide on November 15, 2019 for both retail sale and download. All copies of the game are playable in nine languages: Japanese, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

During E3 2017, Tsunekazu Ishihara announced that the next core series titles would be available on the Nintendo Switch, but they were not prepared to release any more information at the time. On May 30, 2018, The Pokémon Company gave a press conference and announced that the new core games would have more traditional gameplay, as opposed to that found in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!.

The games were formally announced on Pokémon Day, February 27, 2019 at 11 pm JST during a worldwide announcement through Nintendo Direct hosted by Tsunekazu Ishihara, , and Shigeru Ohmori. An official trailer was shown, giving information on the region and the starter Pokémon players can choose from.

Sword & Shield Pokdex

How to Get Galarian Slowpoke in Pokemon Sword and Shield Update 1.1

This is a list of the Pokémon from the Galar region in Pokémon Sword & Shield. As usual there are many new Pokémon, but the region also includes old favorites too!

Sword & Shield differ from previous games in that only Pokémon from the Galar Pokédex can be found in the game. Pokémon outside of this list cannot be transferred into the game at all. However, with the addition of the Expansion Pass the number of Pokémon has since expanded – see The Isle of Armor Pokédex and The Crown Tundra Pokédex for details.

What’s Causing Pokemon Sword And Shield To Delete Data

Unfortunately, the people who have suffered this problem haven’t quite figured out the exact cause of this problem, other than the fact that it happened while they were playing Pokemon Sword and Shield. However, a look at multiple instances has identified several trends to keep in mind.

  • This issue primarily seems to be happening to people on the eShop version of the game.
  • Your SD card may be a factor in this problem using a card that’s formatted as FAT32 rather than exFAT may help.
  • While this issue was first thought to be linked to the auto-save feature there are also reports of it happening if autosave has been disabled

That’s all we know for now. What’s causing the issue still remains a mystery for the moment. This seems like some kind of pretty bad bug, so let’s hope that it gets fixed sooner rather than later.

New Pokemon Sword And Shield Update Unlocks A Slice Of The Dlcs

Pokemon has announced an update for Sword and Shield that you do not want to miss! Why? Because it will put the start of a new story line in your game. This is the introduction to the first DLCs to Pokemon, The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra.

After you have updated your game, make your way to Wedgehurst Station to start the introduction. I do not want to spoil any of the story for you, but make sure to have some spare pokeballs on hand!

This update has also added the expansion pass to the menu of the game:

There is also a special in-game event going on from now until early February. Game Freak did not specify the date the event ends. While the event is going, you have a higher chance of encountering Gigantamax Coalossal and Flapple in Pokemon Sword. Meanwhile, in Pokemon Shield there is a higher chance of encountering Gigantamax Lapras and Appletun.

Each of these Pokemon has special Gigantamax moves. Coalossals move is called G-Max Volcalith after use, it continues to do minor damage to all effected Pokemon for 4 turns. Flapples move is called G-Max Tartness. It reduces the targets evasiveness. Lapras move is G-Max Resonance and it sets up Aurora Veil, which reduces damage for 5 turns. And Appletuns move is G-Max Sweetness, which heals allies of their status conditions.
