Mcdonald’s Pokemon Cards Are Selling For Big Money On Ebay
A Pokemon card exclusive to McDonald’s Happy Meals recently sold for $500 on eBay thanks to a defect.
Pokemon is celebrating its 25th anniversary in a number of different ways. One of those ways has taken the form of a partnership with McDonald’s, the most recent of many for the fast-food chain. To mark the occasion, McDonald’s restaurants in select locations have special edition Pokemon cards inside Happy Meal boxes. Four in each, and 50 in total to collect, some of which are holographic.
Unless you visit Maccy D’s every day, chances are you won’t be finding all 50. Unless you search them out via other means, of course. Buying them on eBay is an option, especially after scalpers managed to get their hands on boxes of them before release and sell them for inflated prices. That’s right, console sales aren’t the only thing scalpers are trying to ruin in 2021.

Some of the resold cards are fetching big money on eBay. Especially ones with a defect, making them even rarer than the regular cards. A Pikachu card with sharp corners rather than rounded edges recently fetched $500 on the auction site according to GameRant. It wasn’t even shiny. Even though its price was upped due to the defect, it’s going to cost you a pretty penny to land all 50, whether you do so through eBay or eating as many happy meals as it takes.

Th Anniversary Golden Pikachu
This is a slightly different entry on the list. A special 24-karat gold Pikachu card was released in Japan five years ago. The card was designed and released to celebrate the franchises 20th anniversary.
This Pikachu wasnt available for general purchase and was only available via a special lottery, in which the winners would have the opportunity to purchase the card for the equivalent of just over $2000.

The Mcdonalds Pokemon Cards are taking the world by storm. Collectors from all over the US are scrambling to the Golden Arches in order to try and secure themselves a Pokemon Happy Meal. The promotion is taking place in collaboration with The Pokemon Company, to celebrate the franchises 25th Anniversary and sees 50 different Pokemon Trading Cards available in special Happy Meal exclusive packs. They are all of the 24 starters plus a special Mcdonalds Pikachu.
These packs are selling for extortionate amounts of money on auction site eBay, with 150 packs selling for over $1000. Some of the cards also have particularly high values, this includes the Mcdonalds Holographic Pikachu card. Lets take a look at this and some of the rarest and most expensive Pikachu cards in history.

Which Mcdonalds Cards Are The Most Valuable
The Pikachu holo variant is the most valuable card, which doesnt come as a surprise. Pikachu has been the face of Pokemon for all of its 25 years and remains one of the most popular to this day. The second most valuable are the Kanto starters, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. Sadly, the set doesn’t include a holographic Charizard card. In general, the holographic variants are more valuable than their normal counterparts for all the Pokemon. After the Kanto starters, though, value starts to dwindle. Full sets have sold from $50 to several hundred dollars, but many of the individual cards are available for around $2.
Currently, thePokemon cards are still available at McDonalds or through sites like Ebay and Mercari. When speaking of monetary value, it would be a drastic understatement to call sales inconsistent. One holographic Pikachu card supposedly sold for an exorbitant amount on Ebay, but the exact same card can also be purchased for less than $5. At first, Pikachu cards were regularly selling for $80, which is a solid profit depending on the initial time and price sink, but the market has now become oversaturated with people trying to sell them and value seems to be decreasing every day. In other words, if the price is depreciating so quickly, fans who haven’t already cashed in and out aren’t likely to do so anymore.

What Cards Are Available In The Set
The set contains 25 different Pokemon Trading Cards in both non-holo and holo forms, meaning there are 50 unique cards in total to collect. The cards are reprints from previous sets that contain a special holo print and original 25th-anniversary logo. The full set is as follows:
Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mudkip, Torchic, Treecko, Chimchar, Piplup, Turtwig, Oshawott, Snivy, Tepig, Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Litten, Popplio, Rowlet, Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble.

Mcdonalds Pokemon Cards Price Update 03/03/21
Full boxes have started to rise again, with an auction coming in at around $800. Full master sets are still hovering around the $200 mark.
Astonishingly, the valuable Holo Pikachu card seems to have started to go back up in price with a recent auction finishing for exactly $50 and many others sitting around $40-$45. The three Kanto starters also look like they may have started to rise again, a recent Holo Charmander finished for $25, and another for over $15. Bulbasaur auctions have finished for $10+ over the last 24 hours and Squirtle between $12-$17.
Some of the less desirable/more common holo cards arent going up however and can now be picked up for around $1.00-$1.50. $3-$4 is still the average for these cards though, so if you have a few, now could be the time to sell before they drop any lower.
Mcdonalds Has Pokemon Tcg Card Packs If Youre Lucky
Just in case youre not sure if youve celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise enough, theres more. McDonalds and the Pokemon Company announced this week that theyre ready to roll with packs of cards. McDonalds Happy Meals will include one 25th Anniversary Special Edition McDonalds booster pack of Pokemon Trading Card Game cards each.
If you want to Catch Em All, prepare yourself for a nightmare of fast food proportions. Each pack has 4 cards. There are 24 first partner Pokemon from each of the different regions in the Pokemon universe, plus one Pikachu. Each of the 25 cards can be found in standard and foil iterations.
So there are a total of 50 cards available in this set, and you get 4 cards per Happy Meal pack. Youre going to need to buy at least 13 Happy Meals to get the whole set, and thats only if youve got the most fantastic luck, and only THEN if the packs include no repeats and 12.5 different combinations of cards.
Basically the situation suggests that youre not going to Catch Em All without trading and/or buying cards from eBay. One might want to take a peek at the prices of similar cards thatve been released by McDonalds in collaboration with The Pokemon Company in the past to decide on your path from here.

Mcdonalds Pokemon Cards Ebay Sales What Were The Highest Prices
So far, there have been some staggering sales on eBay. Full cases of 150 packs have already been sold for over $1,100 on the online auction site! There are also plenty of other sales that have been around or over the $850 mark.

There have also been sales of completed sets of the cards, the most expensive of these had an offer accepted around the $400 mark. Other complete sets are selling for around $300.
In terms of individual cards, the holo Pikachu takes the biscuit here. The card sold for up to $100 on its own during its peak! The Kanto starters, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle are the next most popular, all of which sold for around $20-$30 each. The rest of the starters prices range from around $10-$20.

Each McDonalds Pokémon Happy Meal also includes a Pokémon toy. There are 4 types:
Pokemon Card Holder
This is a cardboard frame to hold your Pokémon card.
The cardboard deck box can hold your Pokémon cards.
Small Sticker Set
The small sticker set comes with 26 stickers, two for each starter Pokémon and two for Pikachu.
Large Sticker Set
The large sticker includes 4 Pokémon.
Holographic Bulbasaur Charmander And Squirtle
After iconic Pokemon like Pikachu and Charizard, it goes without saying that the Kanto region starters are likely some of the most recognizable monsters out there. Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle made their Pokemon debut alongside Pikachu back in 1996, and have since remained some of the favorite monsters of long-time fans, particularly those who grew up playing the original Pokemon games on the Game Boy. These are the second-rarest cards from the 2021 McDonald’s promotion.
This particular Bulbasaur card featuring the classic Grass-type starter Pokemon was originally released as part of the Shining Legends Pokemon TCG expansion back in 2017. In 2019, the card appeared in General Mills Let’s Go, Kanto! Mini Packs found in General Mills cereal boxes exclusively at Walmart. The card was also part of a McDonald’s promotion in France in 2019, also with holographic and non-holographic variations.
Now, the Bulbasaur card dons the Pokemon 25th-anniversary logo and unique icon as part of the 2021 McDonald’s promotion. Today, the Shining Legends Bulbasaur card goes for around $2-5, while the 2021 McDonald’s non-holographic Bulbasaur resells for around $3-5, and the holographic version goes for $15-20.

Pretty much all McDonalds across the country should have the Pokémon cards but to be sure you should call your local McDonalds to double check.
I called up my local McDonalds over the phone and they confirmed for me.
I did see a video where the person got the Pokémon Happy Meal box but with a toy from the previous Happy Meal theme.

You may have seen that McDonalds and The Pokemon Company have teamed up to release a special set of Pokemon Trading Cards for the franchises 25th anniversary. The collaboration sees 25 different cards available in both holo and non-holo formats, making for 50 cards in total. This has left the cards in high demand as collectors from all over the US scramble to get the cards. In doing so, people are getting doubles or just looking to make bank and therefore selling them online. Here are some of the highest McDonalds Pokemon Cards eBay sales so far and their current prices as of February 15.

Why The Cards Aren’t Valuable
Even though Pokemon fans and collectors will only have a limited amount of time to get these cards, this doesn’t mean these cards are necessarily rare. The reason for this is likely the same reason for the gold Pokemon cards from Burger King not being anything that could help pay rent for the month.
It can be estimated that majority of McDonald’s will be giving out these promotional cards with Happy Meals. According to Statista, as of 2019, there are around 13,837 different McDonald’s fast food restaurants in the United States of America alone. It can also be estimated that there are quite a large amount of Happy Meals being ordered at each of these McDonald’s every day. If the McDonald’s restaurant still has the stock of Pokemon card packs, a pack will be included with each of these Happy Meals.

In a scenario where only five Happy Meals were ordered from each of these McDonald’s in one day, there would then be 69,185 of these packs in circulation from this one day alone. With each pack containing four cards, this means that there are 276,740 cards in circulation from this scenario in circulation. Of course, way more than five Happy Meals are likely ordered from all these McDonald’s, meaning there is an insanely large amount of these cards out in the wild already.
Pokemon Tcg Cards Are Popular Again
Pokemon TCG cards had a major comeback in 2020 that has extended into the new year. Collectors have been digging through their old cards in hope of finding one or two that have appreciated in valueand some of them have. Charizard cards and older cards that dont have a drop-shadow behind the image of the Pokemon have become especially lucrative, some going for thousands of dollars. First-edition holographic Charizard cards have sold for the insane price of $300,000. Stores selling out of Pokemon TCG cards resulted in the manufacturer upping the production numbers to make sure fans were able to have access to the packs they want.
The Pokemon TCG resurgence inspired YouTube and Twitch trends of people opening boxes of their old collections to sift through, and prices for many cards skyrocketed. Now that Pokemon cards are coming back, many collectors feel theres a chance the 25th anniversary McDonalds set might be worth something one day, too. Some of the cards have already sold for exorbitant prices.
The McDonalds set includes 50 cards, with half being regular images and the other featuring a holographic foil. No official information has been released about which cards are the rarest, but it seems the holographic cards are a little bit harder to track down. Each Happy Meal contains a pack of four cards, each bearing the Pokemon 25th Anniversary logo.
