After winning Dynamax Adventures in Sword and Shield’s Max Lair, players encounter a legendary Pokémon, and they can all be shiny. Here, players can find the Kantonian versions of the legendary birds: such as Mewtwo, Suicune, Raikou, Entei, Ho-oh, Lugia, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, and more. Moreover, every Ultra Beast bar Poipole is found at the end of Max Lairs, too, meaning players can shiny hunt Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheremosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Blacephalon, and Stakataka here.

The good news is this can usually be done in about 1530 seconds per attempt, depending on the Pokémon, game, and whether theres cutscenes or excessive dialogue involved.
The Shiny Charm is the only way to improve your odds of getting a Shiny Pokémon this way and it will give you triple the base odds, so its very worthwhile saving these hunts until after you obtain the Shiny Charm. For some Legendary Pokémon, thats just not possible, as you have to fight and/or catch them for storyline purposes.
Keep in mind that some Pokémon are Shiny Locked. Shiny Locked Pokémon cannot be encountered as a Shiny if that particular encounter with them is Shiny Locked.

What Does ‘shiny Lock’ Mean
Shiny locking is a new feature that was originally added to Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu, and Let’s Go, Eevee, and has been carried over into Pokémon Sword and Shield. This means that it is impossible to find the starter Pokémon along with the two legendary Pokémon in shiny forms out in the wild. Additionally, any Pokémon given as gifts cannot be shiny either, so the Charmander that you will eventually receive during your playthrough won’t be shiny either.

Is There A Shiny Eternatus
Players have not been able to get shiny Eternatus to this point without hacking or modding their game.
Alongside Zacian and Zamazenta, Eternatus is shiny-locked in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Players are required to catch the third legendary Pokemon of the eighth generation, but there is no way to catch a shiny version of the Pokemon.
The only way this will change is through some manner of in-game distribution event or a real-life promotion like the one seen for Zacian and Zamazenta.

When you run through a Max Lair, its important to remember that the Pokémon you encounter and catch will not appear to be shiny until the adventure is over and the game lets you pick one to keep. At the end of the Max Lair youll be allowed to choose one Pokémon to keep.
If you had a successful run, captured three normal Pokémon throughout and captured the Legendary Pokémon, youll have four to choose from. This is a key moment, because youll need to look closely to see if any of the ones you caught are in their Shiny Form.
This is fairly obvious for some Pokémon, but more difficult to discern with the naked eye for others. To be sure, you can check the summary of the Pokémon and look for the red stars on the left that indicate it is a Shiny Pokémon.
Your odds are pretty good when doing a Max Lair, as youll have a 1 in 100 chance of each Pokémon you catch being in its Shiny Form. That gives you a decent 1% chance of catching a Shiny Legendary, and three more chances with the same odds of catching a regular Shiny Pokémon.
Make sure you keep something else that was caught, or nothing, so that youll have the chance to go after it again. After the Max Lair is over, youll be given the option to jot down where to find that Pokémon for next time.

Once you have all 400 Pokémon, travel to Circhester and go to the first hotel you see in the city. Youll need to take the elevator to the top floor and then head to the room thats farthest on the left of the building. Enter the room and talk to the doctor in the back. Hell give you the Shiny Charm, which will increase your chances of coming upon a shiny Pokémon to 1/1365.33. When combined with all of the other catching methods, your odds go up to 1/458.

Pokmon Sword And Shield’s Crown Tundra Dlc Has Brought Back Many Classic Pokmon But Which Shiny Legendary Pokmon Can Be Found
Some shiny legendary Pokémon in The Crown Tundra can be met via static encounters, like the Regis, but most come through taking on the newly introduced Dynamax Adventures known as Max Lair. These difficult multi-battle runs can net you just about every classic Legendary Pokémon in the series.
In total, there are 64 known Legendary Pokémon and one known Mythical Pokémon that can be captured or acquired in The Crown Tundra. The DLC introduced three regional variants of classic Legendary Pokémon as well as five brand-new Legendary Pokémon.
Unfortunately, there are some Pokémon that are Shiny Locked in Pokémon Sword and Shields Crown Tundra DLC. Per Serebii, nine are Shiny Locked in total. That means no matter how many times you reset your game or retry the encounter, theyll never be shiny.

Unfortunately not. Some Pokemon are Shiny Locked. What this means is no matter what you do to increase your odds they will never be shiny. The following encounters are Shiny Locked in Sword and Shield:
- Starter Pokemon Your chosen starter Pokemon CANNOT be shiny, however, breeding these Pokemon could result in a shiny, thus making that the only way to obtain a shiny version of the three starters.
- Trade Pokemon Any Pokemon you can get through an in-game trade with any of the NPCs are shiny locked so these Pokemon will never be shiny. Traded Pokemon can also be used to breed for Shiny Pokemon.
- Legendary Pokemon The Legendary Pokemon in this game are also Shiny Locked meaning through normal means they cannot be shiny. Gamefreak usually does Mystery Gift events to release these sort of Pokemon later on in the games life.
- Pokemon in the wild too high level Gamefreak made the decision to reduce the amount of upset players who were afraid they would run into a high level Pokemon in the Wild Areas and not have the ability to catch these Pokemon due to being underleveled. So Pokemon you may encounter that vastly outlevel you will not be able to be shiny.
