Best Counters For Mega Gyarados

The absolute best counters would be Mega Venusaur with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant, or Shadow Raikou with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge, but many players wont have access to those, so the list below should be more than enough:

  • Zekrom: This popular Gen 5 Legendary can take advantage of Mega Gyarados weakness to Electric-type moves with Charge Beam and Wild Charge.
  • Raikou: Another fan-favorite Legendary that can turn Mega Gyarados Electric weakness in its favor. Use the moves Thunder Shock and Wild Charge for the best effect.
  • Lucario: This Fighting/Steel-type is more than just a cool-looking Pokemon, with Counter and Aura Sphere packing a huge punch against Mega Gyarados.
  • Breloom: Being a Grass/Fighting-type, Breloom is an ideal counter against Mega Gyarados using the moves Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Conkeldurr: The final evolution of Timburr is a strong Fighting-type that can take on Mega Gyarados using Counter and Dynamic Punch.

Some more common counters that should still be effective are Machamp with Karate Chop and Dynamic Punch Roserade with Razor Leaf and Grass Knot Tangrowth with Vine Whip and Power Whip and Luxray with Spark and Wild Charge.

Its important to remember that Mega Evolutions cant be caught, but completing the Mega Raids will help players save up enough resources to temporarily Mega Evolve their own Gyarados, which will be a powerful asset going forwards.

Gyarados is a Water and Flying-type Pokemon with a max CP of 3834, 237 attack, 186 defence and 216 stamina. It was originally found in the Kanto region . Gyarados is vulnerable to Electric and Rock-type moves. Gyarados is boosted by Rain and Windy weather. Gyarados’s best moves are Waterfall and Hydro Pump .

It is not easy to obtain a Gyarados as it is not available from any Pokemon Eggs. The only way by which the players can get their hands on a Gyarados is by evolving a Magikarp. Doing this in Pokemon Go will require the players 400 Magikarp Candy. For those who are having trouble catching enough Magikarp for Magikarp candies, they should try to hatch it from 2km eggs. The best thing about it is that these Eggs have a short travel distance, so it is possible to hatch them more frequently.

The True Magikarp Evolution

One of the oldest Pokémon fan theories concerns the evolution of Magikarp into Gyarados. The two Pokémon look nothing alike, which was most likely an intentional decision that was made to give a visual clue as to the power discrepancy between the two forms.

The fan theory concerning Magikarp’s evolution states that Dragonite was the original final form of Magikarp, with Gyarados being the original evolution of Dragonair. This is due to the visual similarities between the two lines. Magikarp’s two barbels resemble the two long antennae that are placed on Dragonite’s head. Dragonite also shares the orange color scheme of Magikarp. Gyarados is a huge blue sea serpent, which bears a strong resemblance to the similar form of Dragonair and Dratini.

While there is some visual evidence to support this theory, there is no decent explanation as to why the forms were switched in the first place.

How To Find Shiny Pokmon Such As Shiny Magikarp And Red Gyarados Pokmon Go

Shinies are found by simply trying to catch Pokémon and seeing if they display as an alternate colour in the battle and post-battle screens.

They won’t appear as a different colour in the field, so you have to attempt to catch them first.

They of course can also appear in anywhere you’d find a Pokémon, not just the wild – so that includes hatching Eggs, Research task rewards and Raid bonus challenges.

A Shiny creature is extremely rare, so it’s simply a case of checking every one you are looking for – such as Magikarp – in the hope it will be a different colour.

Often, the variation is somewhat subtle. You can see the difference in Magikarp in the above comparison image, courtesy of Silph Road subreddit user skinnysnorlaz.

    Why Is Gyarados Angry

Gyarados is known for its fierce temper and wanton destructive tendencies. Once it has worked itself into a frenzy, it will not calm until everything around it is destroyed, and can even go on for a whole month. This violent nature is attributed to the dramatic structural changes its brain undergoes during evolution.

    The Origin Of Magikarp

Like most Pokémon, Magikarp is based on both a real life animal and a story from mythology. Magikarp closely resembles the Asian carp, which are among the most common types of fish found in China. The Asian carp are notorious for being easily spooked by noises and jumping out of the water in response. This makes it tricky for those hunting the Asian carp, as they are liable to be smacked in the face by one leaping from the water.

There is an ancient legend regarding the Asian carp that formed the basis for Magikarp’s creation. It is said that there was a particularly massive waterfall in China, known as the Dragon Gate. As the Asian Carp is known for swimming upstream, it would not be able to bypass a waterfall. According to the legend, an Asian Carp that managed to leap over the Dragon Gate would turn into a dragon. This is why Magikarp turns into the mighty Gyarados when it levels up.

Gyarados Is The Choice Of Champions

The Champion of each region in the Pokémon world uses a team consisting of the most powerful Pokémon that can be found within the game. They represent the most difficult challenge you will face as a trainer, and the battle against them will likely be the hardest fight you will have in the game.

It is a testament to the power of Gyarados as a Pokémon, that it is the most popular choice among the Champions of the Pokémon series.

Gyarados is used in the team of Lance, the Champion of Johto. Lance’s Gyarados is one of the few Pokémon in his team that is actually legal, as his three Dragonite’s are under leveled for their evolution, and his Aerodactyl knows Rock Slide, which it could not actually learn until the next generation of games. Gyarados is also used in the team of Wallace when he became the Champion of the Hoenn region in Pokémon Emerald.

The third Gyarados user is up for debate, as he will only use it in his team under a specific set of circumstances. Blue, the Champion of Kanto in Pokémon Red & Blue will only have a Gyarados in his team if the player chose either Bulbasaur or Squirtle as their starter. If the player picked Charmander, then Blue will have a Blastoise instead.
