How To Find Gigantamax Pokmon In The Wild Area In Pokmon Sword And Shield

Pokémon with the Gigantamax factor are incredibly rare and can only be found in five-star Max Raids, which occur in the Wild Area.

Five-star Max Raids will only start appearing once you earn the Dragon Badge, the eighth and last gym badge in Pokémon Sword and Shield. These raids are usually marked by having a pillar of swirling, dark purple, energy emerging from the Pokémon Den, though can appear in Dens with light red pillars too.

After you’ve defeated all the Galar gym leaders – it’s time to go Gigantamax hunting!

Be prepared for this to be a long hunt, because, without boosted spawn rates, there is only a 5% chance of a Gigantamax Pokémon making an appearance.

You can increase your chances of encountering a Gigantamax Pokémon by using a Wishing Piece on a Pokémon Den. This will attract with a Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon to that Pokémon Den.

Just remember – while you can use as many Wishing Pieces as you like each day, if you use a piece on a Pokémon Den that already has a Pokémon in it, this will force that current Pokémon out. If you want to fight that Pokémon, make sure you do it before using a Wishing Piece.

It’s also a good idea to defeat all the Pokémon in every Den each day. If you do this, the Dens will reset and your chance of encountering a rare Pokémon will increase.

What Are Gigantamax Pokmon Sword And Shield

Gigantamax Pokémon are Pokémon that, when they Dynamax, not only grow in size, but change form completely.

Your Alcremie, for example, will go from being a cute little blob of sentient cream to a towering cake monstrosity.

Only a specific list of Pokémon have the ability to Gigantamax. You’ll know if you’ve caught a Pokémon with the Gigantamax factor, because, when you look at its summary, there will be a special red X symbol between its name and the picture of the Poké Ball it lives in.

Due to this each Gigantamax form has its own entry in the Pokédex, through, thankfully, these entries are not required for completing the Pokédex.

Like Dynamaxing, Gigantamaxing will only last for three turns, but the Gigantamax Pokémon will also be able to use a unique move, called a G-Max move, that have a number of special effects.

Finally, it’s important to note that, while you can breed Pokémon that have the Gigantamax factor with other Pokémon, both Gigantamax and not, the baby Pokémon they create won’t be able to Gigantamax.

Sadly, you can’t breed your Gigantamax Pokémon army.

How To Get Gigantamax Pikachu

If you want to get your hands on a Gigantamax Pikachu, then youre going to have to jump through a couple of hoops. Unlike some of the other Gigantamax Pokemon in Sword and Shield, the Pikachus you catch natively wont be capable of using the Gigantamax technology. Instead, youre going to need to have played Pokemon: Lets Go Pikachu! and youll need to talk to a special person in the Wild Area just outside of your hometown.

Now, to get the Gigantamax Pikachu, youre going to have to have a Pokemon: Lets Go Pikachu save file on your Nintendo Switch. If you already have the save file, simply play through Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield until you reach the Wild Area outside of your town. This is one of the first places you explore at the start of your journey, and you can find the person you want to speak to in the Meet Up Spot, which also happens to be right where you get off the train in the Wild Area.

Speak to the man in the corner and youll be rewarded with a special Pikachu that is capable of using the Gigantamax technology. Of course, youll still need to go through the due process to make that happen, but at least its something that will be possible with this particular Pikachu in your party.

Now that you know how to get Gigantamax Pikachu, head back over to our Pokemon Sword and Shield hub for more guides like our helpful piece on how to get Gigantamax Eevee.

‘pokmon Sword And Shield’ Gigantamax & Dynamax: List Of All Transformations

Just about every generation of the Pokémon franchise introduces a new battle mechanic, and Sword and Shieldare no exception.

For the Gen 8 games, Dynamax and Gigantamax are a new mechanic that can turn the tide of battle. This phenomenon allows Pokémon to grow larger in size and gain access to more powerful attacks.

Mastering Dynamax and Gigantamax is not easy, as you’ll need to have perfect timing and strategy to overcome other trainers who look to use this new mechanic for themselves.

Here’s everything you need to know about Dynamax and Gigantamax in Pokémon Sword and Shield, including a list of Pokémon that can undergo this new transformation.

WHAT IS DYNAMAX

Dynamax is similar to Mega Evolution in that it’s a temporary change. Pokémon that Dynamax will stay transformed for only three turns. In that time, you can overpower your opponent’s Pokémon and utilize special moves called Max Moves.

Every Pokémon has the ability to Dynamax no matter which stage of evolution it’s in. Dynamax also doesn’t affect stats aside from HP. In other words, this transformation will increase the Pokémon’s HP stat but nothing else.

Each Pokémon has a Dynamax level that can be increased with Dynamax Candy. Each time the level is increased, the Pokémon’s HP will increase by five percent. This item can be earned in Max Raid Battles.

WHAT IS GIGANTAMAX

Here’s a list of Pokémon that can Gigantamax, as well as their unique G-Max attack:

One of the big new features in Pokemon Sword and Shield is Dynamaxing, which increases a Pokemon’s size and powers up its stats for three turns during battles. While any Pokemon can Dynamax, only a few species are capable of Gigantamaxing, which not only supersizes a Pokemon, but changes its appearance as well.

Even among the Pokemon species that can Gigantamax, only special individuals are actually capable of taking on these forms. For instance, only certain Butterfree you catch through Max Raid battles can Gigantamax those you capture normally will only be able to Dynamax. You can also get a couple of Gigantamax Pokemon for free if you have save data from Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee on your Switch, you can get a Gigantamax Pikachu or Eevee at the Wild Area Station, and everyone who picks up Sword or Shield by January 15 can get a free Gigantamax Meowth.

Searching The Wild Area

Gigantamax battles look just like normal Max Raid battles on the outside. The “purple” beam of light emerging from a Pokemon den does not indicate a Gigantamax raid explicitly — purple beams indicate rare encounters, not Gigantamax encounters.

Rather, you have to go up to each raid and look at what’s inside. Gigantamax raids will always be 5-star difficulties, and like Dynamax raids, you’ll only get a silhouette and the typing of the Pokemon you’re about to fight to go by. To spot Gigantamax battles, you’ll have to both know what Pokemon you’re looking for upfront .

Fishing For Brilliant Pokmon

You can also find Brilliant Pokémon by fishing in the WildArea. The number of times you’ve battled any one species won’t matter at allfor fishing. Instead, you’ll need to defeat many Pokémon consecutively, nomatter which species appears.

Successful hooks
Brilliant Pokémon have 6.6× the likelihood of appearing
25+ Brilliant Pokémon have 16.6× the likelihood of appearing

If you keep getting bites and defeating your catches, you’llstart to find more and more Brilliant Pokémon. But bewareif you fail to reel aPokémon in, or if you catch a Pokémon, run away from a Pokémon, leave the area,or turn off your game, then the chain will break. After 25 successful hooks, you’llcap out at over 16 times the initial odds of finding a Brilliant Pokémon, so itcan be quite rewarding to build a big streak.
