How Mega Evolution Works In Pokemon Go

Niantic has done a bit of a press tour ahead of tomorrows update, so we have a good idea of the general gameplay loop for Mega Evolution. We dont have the specific numbers yet, but well all know once the new feature is live. In the meantime, what we do know is that Mega Evolution will be a temporary transformation, fueled by a collectible resource called Mega Energy.

While the datamine leak suggested it could be universal, Niantic has confirmed that Mega Energy will be Pokemon-specific. For example, when you go through the tutorial research quests tomorrow, youll receive Mega Energy for Beedrill, one of the four included in the initial roll out. Once you collect enough Mega Energy, youll be able to check out what Mega Beedrill is capable of. But you wont have to grind the same amount every time. After the initial Mega Evolution, which will be more demanding, the requirement for subsequent transformations will drop significantly. The main hurdle will be getting to the first time, and getting the Pokemon added to the Mega Evolution Pokedex.

Niantic Is Also Changing The Way Raids Work

Fortyseven CommunicationsA Mega Raid Battle featuring Mega Blastoise as a Raid Boss.

Slemon said that the Raids in Pokemon GO will Mega Evolve along with the Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is going to start rewarding faster clear times with more rewards. Slemon said that they wanted the game to acknowledge players getting better at clearing the Raids. The speed bonus will replace the team contribution bonus going forward according to an email sent to Heavy.

Niantic is also going to remove the two- and four-star Raid Battles. What theyre going to do is keep the difficulty level for one- and three-star Raids the same but give them the rewards of two- and four-star Raids respectively.

Slemon said that they made the decision based not only on what Raids the players were playing the most but how they thought about them. He said that a one-star Raid is something you can complete no matter what your level is or how many players you have. A three-star Raid is something you can solo only if youve put effort into your Pokemon and use bonuses to your advantages or if you have a couple of friends to help you out.

Slemon said that if players really miss two- or four-star Raids then theyll definitely consider finding a way to bring them back and make them work.

Warner added that when incorporating mechanics from the core Pokemon games, Niantic wants to focus on the aspects that make Pokemon GO special.

Pokemon Go Mega Slowbro Counters How To Defeat Them In Raids

These Pokemon Go Mega Slowbro Counters will help with the new raid appearing as the Season of Mischief begins. The Pokemon Go Water and Psychic-type from the Kanto region received a Mega Evolution in Generation 6 and it made this derpy Pokemon into a certified tank on the battlefield.

In Pokemon Go, however, Mega Slowbro gives trainers another Water-type Mega Evolution option and is currently the mobile games only Psychic-type Mega Evolution. Battling and defeating Mega Slowbro will earn trainers Pokemon Go Mega Energy that can be used to evolve their Pokemon temporarily for specific battles. And Mega Slowbro would make a great addition to anyones team, so if youre looking to do just that heres a guide on the best counters for this Mega Pokemon and what moves you can expect when going into battle.

Mega Raid Hours In Pokmon Go

Pokémon GO Mega Evolution Now Easier Thanks To Mega Energy ...

You probably wont remember this, but Niantic announced a test Mega Raid hour on March 18th. It was indeed a test and judging by the fact that we never saw this happen again we can probably assume that it was a failure.

Legendary Raid Hours however have been a great success from the very beginning. Raid trains are planned all over the world whenever a popular raid boss is featured in any of the Legendary Raid Hours, and trainers around the world carefully plan their Raid Hours coordinating with people living in other areas to squeeze in as many raids as possible while the event lasts by using Remote Raid passes.

Mega Raid hours are a cool idea, but they will not work unless the Pokémon is insanely rare or powerful. Other Mega evolutions wont get nearly as much as attention with the current mega evolution system.

Potential solutions: reworking the mega evolution system to make mega evolving worth it or adding free Mega Raid passes to the game.

Every Mega Evolution And How Much Mega Energy Is Required In Pokemon Go

When Mega Evolution was introduced in Pokemon GO, only five Mega Pokemon were added: Mega Beedrill, Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard X and Y. Since then, more Mega Pokemon have been introduced usually during special events.

As for Mega Energy, each Mega Evolution has two costs. The initial Mega Energy cost is the amount needed to Mega Evolve a species for the first time. This is the highest cost. Every subsequent Mega Evolution of that species after is significantly reduced.

There are a lot of Mega Pokemon that have yet to be introduced in Pokemon GO, but heres every evolution introduced so far with the initial Mega Energy cost and the cost to Mega Evolve after the first time.

Primal Reversion In Pokmon Go

In addition to the 46 Pokémon capable of Mega Evolving, the Legendary Pokémon Kyogre and Groudon have forms that are similar to Mega Evolution. These forms, called Primal Reversion, use orbs instead of Mega Stones and don’t require the Key Stone. Otherwise, the process is very similar. Although neither have been introduced yet, dataminers have found evidence that Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon are coming soon.

Mega Evolution Rotations And Fomo

HOW TO GET MEGA POKÉMON IN POKÉMON GO! (Mega Raids & Mega Evolution Explained)

The rotation system doesnt really work due to several reasons.

Lets assume that you can only spend one raid pass per day. First of all, trainers need to prioritise between raiding a legendary Pokémon or a Mega. Only a handful of megas are actually worth raiding because they outclass all other raid attackers or because they are rare Pokémon. Would you rather raid a Mega Steelix or a Giratina Origin? A Mega Houndoom or a Mewtwo? A Mega Ampharos or a Groudon? The answer is pretty obvious in most cases.

Another issue regarding the mega rotations goes hand in hand with the previous issue mentioned in this list: universal mega energy. If you want to raid Mega Lucario because its an insane fighting type attacker and one of your favourite Pokémon, once Mega Lucario is out of the Mega rotation youre probably gonna have to spend your remaining Lucario Mega Energy very carefully because the amount of mega energy you can get from tasks and the buddy system is quite scarce. This relies heavily in FOMO and thats not good for the game. In fact, trainers dont want to waste spend their precious mega energy and thus they barely mega evolve their Pokémon because they dont want to run out of mega energy. Is this system really enjoyable?

Potential solutions: Adding a free Mega Evolution daily raid pass, adding universal mega energy to the game or increasing the amount of mega energy you get from quests.

What Is Mega Evolution

Mega Evolution is a battle mechanic introduced in the Gen VI games, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Closer to Dynamaxing than it is to Evolution, Mega Evolution allows a Pokémon to become much stronger for the remainder of a single battle. the resulting Mega Pokémon will look considerably different and sometimes even have a different typing. Only select species are capable of Mega Evolution and it requires a Mega Stone specific to the species of the Pokémon. For example, if you want Ampharos to Mega Evolve, you need Ampharosite, but Absol needs Absolite. On top of the Mega Stone, the Trainer also has to have a Key Stone which is kept in a Mega Ring, Mega Bracelet, Z-Ring, or Z-Power Ring.

How To Mega Evolve

Pokemon Go Datamine Reveals Huge Details About Mega Evolution

Once youve obtained 200 Mega Energy for a specific Pokemon, then youll be ready to begin a Mega Evolution. Just tap on the Pokemon you want to evolve, then you should see the option to Mega Evolve your Pokemon right below the option to power them up. 200 Mega Energy is required for the first time and 40 is what you need for any time after.

The two exceptions are Mega Pidgeot and Mega Beedrill which only require 100 for the first evolution and 20 after that.

After eight hours or if you Mega evolve another Pokemon before eight hours, the first one will revert to its original form.

Mega Raids And Mega Energy

Trainers enter the new high-tier Mega Raids using standard Raid and Remote Raid Passes. To get enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve a Pokemon, players will have to complete multiple Mega Raids featuring that specific Pokemon.

High level, the way its going to work is trainers are going to go do Mega Raids and if they win theyll get some amount of Mega Energy for the Pokemon they battled, Warner said.

So if they battle Mega Blastoise, theyll get Mega Blastoise Energy, and then theyll have the chance to catch a regular Blastoise from the raid.

However, once youve ground out enough Mega Energy for one Mega Pokemon, Mega Evolving that same Pokemon again will cost significantly less.

We have a Mega Pokedex now, so we want the achievement of unlocking the slot on the Mega Pokedex to be a big moment, but we understand that theres utility to having Mega Evolutions, so we wanted it to be easier to repeat, Slemon explained.

Were still going through a lot of tuning stuff, but I think the philosophy behind it is that your first Mega Evolution should be a big achievement. So that will take several rounds of Raids.

After you unlock it though, the cost reduces significantly. So the idea is that after youve Mega Evolved a Pokemon itll still need Mega Energy, but a much reduced amount.

Another function of Mega Pokemon for Niantic was to take some of the pressure off of Legendary Pokemon being the only top-tier option for high-level players.

Mega Evolutions Were Just Announced For ‘pokmon Go’ And Fans Are Really Stoked

To be clear, the “mega” evolution isn’t a new form that your Pokémon will take. So, if you’re hoping for something that’s more Charizard-ier than a Charizard, then you’re out of luck. It’s not like the “mega” form is something that’s permanent or will add another entry to your Pokedex either.

But “megas” do have their own animations and are brought out by the use of the “Mega Energy” that you use on a Pokémon of your choice.

They are a temporary status only and you can only have one mega Pokémon at a time, which means you can’t have an entire roster of monsters that are mega amplified, either. The second you use a mega candy on another Pokémon, then your previous mega will revert back to its regular stats. Sorry, you can’t have an army of uber-monsters laying waste to people in battle

You can only have one Mega Pokémon at a time. If you Mega Evolve a different one, your first Pokémon will revert back to normal and youll need to collect Mega Energy to evolve it again.

Using a Mega Pokémon in a raid gives other Pokémon an attack boost, with an additional attack boost given to Pokémon of the same type. These boosts do not stack.

Your Pokémon will only be Mega Evolved for a time period, which you can check on the information screen for that Pokémon. Once it returns to normal, it will be significantly cheaper to Mega Evolve it again.

The Concept Of Mega Evolution

The concept of Mega Evolution was first introduced in PokémonX & Y as a completely new form of evolution in the franchise, allowing the highest evolution of a Pokémon to transform into an even stronger form. It was available in Generation VI and Generation VII games, but it wasnt included in Generation VIII games. Since being a part of the main series of games, it has been added to other Pokémon games as well.

It is said that Korrina, the Gym leader of Shalour City, knows the secrets of Mega Evolution, although the whole concept is never completely explained. What is known is that you need a special Mega Stone to achieve a Mega Evolution, and it has been theorised that there needs to be a strong bond between a Pokémon and its trainer in order to do it this, on the other hand, doesnt explain how wild Pokémon managed to Mega evolve, as it is said that Rayquaza, a legendary Pokémon from Generation III, was the first Pokémon to Mega evolve .

Rayquaza is considered to be the first Pokémonto have Mega evolved

Mega Evolution is not a widely spread concept available to all Pokémon. As of August 2020, only 46 Pokémon can Mega evolve, with there being 48 different Mega forms . A Mega Pokémon is called Mega and along with a visual change, it also receives a significant power boost.

These are the Pokémon that currently have a Mega form in the franchise:
