Pokmon Sun And Moon: How To Catch The Ultra Beasts And Necrozma
Here’s how to hunt down and find the Ultra Beasts in Pokémon Sun and Moon, as well as how to find and catch the legendary Pokémon Necrozma.
Guideby Nadia Oxford, Staff Writer
25 July 2017
Hunting and catching Ultra Beasts is part of Pokémon Sun and Moon‘s post-game . Ultra Beasts are extra-dimensional Pokémon that are kind of horrific-looking, and as you might expect, they put up quite a fight. But once you’re Alola’s champion, catching these Lovecraftian horrors should be a cakewalk. Right? This Pokemon Sun and Moon guide to catching Ultra Beasts and Necrozma will tell you all you need to know.
You can start hunting Ultra Beasts after you become Alola’s champion and meet the International Police outside your house. You need “Beast Balls” to catch Ultra Beasts, which you can get from Wicke at the Aether Foundation. This guide will help you find the Ultra Beasts and give you tips on catching them. Don’t forget to visit our Pokémon Sun and Moon guide for more tips, walkthroughs, and hints related to Sun and Moon!
Pokmon Go: Gen 7 Ultra Beasts Confirmed In New Video
Pokémon GO is adding Sun and Moon’s extradimensional Ultra Beasts, starting with the bizarre and parasitic Rock/Poison jellyfish creature Nihilego.
A new Pokémon GO video hints at the arrival of Generation Sevens Ultra Beasts, starting with the eerie, jellyfish-like Nihilego. In 2016s Pokémon Sun and Moon, players were introduced to the Ultra Beasts, a group of extraterrestrial Pokémon from an alternate dimension known as Ultra Space. They emerged in the Alola region through rifts called Ultra Wormholes, and are said to be connected to the legendary trio of Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma – also known as “the Light trio”. The Ultra Beasts possess incredible powers that often threaten the environment around them.
One of the most bizarre and unsettling of Pokémon Sun And Moons Ultra Beasts is Nihilego, a Rock/Poison-type Pokémon that resembles a large, ethereal jellyfish that is sometimes mistaken for a young girl due to its tentacles resembling human limbs. Its appearance is creepy enough, but Nihilego is also a parasitic creature that can merge with another Pokémon or even a human by latching onto the victims head and subduing them with a neurotoxin that triggers increased feelings of excitement and a loss of inhibitions. Aside from its appearance in the Pokémon Sun and Moon games, Nihilego has been featured in a few episodes of the long-running Pokémon anime series, as well as popping up as a Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Dusk Mane / Dawn Wings Necrozma
While the mysterious Legendary Pokemon Necrozma appeared in the original Sun and Moon versions, it plays a much larger story role in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Depending on which version you pick up, it merges with the games’ mascot Pokemon, Solgaleo or Lunala, to turn into its new Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings forms, respectively.
Along with taking on a new appearance and typing, Necrozma is able to use Solgaleo and Lunala’s signature attacks when it merges with the two Legendaries. Dusk Mane Necrozma is a Psychic/Steel-type and can unleash Sunsteel Strike, while Dawn Wings Necrozma is a Psychic/Ghost-type and can use Moongeist Beam. Both forms also have the ability Prism Armor, which reduces the damage Necrozma takes from super-effective attacks.

What Are Ultra Beasts
Ultra Beasts were originally introduced to the Pokémon franchise in Pokémon Sun and Moon. These creatures are said to originate in the Ultra Space, resulting in them being incredibly powerful Pokémon. While they typically stay in their dimension, occasionally they’ll get trapped in our dimension thanks to Ultra Wormholes, resulting in these Pokémon becoming aggressive with anyone they encounter.
There are limited mentions of Ultra Pokémon across all of the different regions. At this time, the Alola region is really the only one that has studied the beasts and their development, and they haven’t been part of other Pokémon games outside of Sun and Moon and their remakes, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Pokmon Go Ultra Beast Pokmon List All Current And Upcoming Ultra Beasts
Ultra Beasts were added to Pokémon Go during the global and in-person events during Go Fest 2022.
If you’re not familiar with them, Ultra Beasts are extradimensional Pokémon that come from Ultra Space through Ultra Wormholes, and were first introduced during the main series of games in Sun and Moon. Just like in Sun and Moon, Nihilego was the first Ultra Beast to appear in Pokémon Go.
As Ultra Beasts have only been limited to these Go Fest events so far, they are some of the rarest Pokémon in the game, having only been available from limited-time raids and Special Research for Go Fest 2022 ticket-holders.

How To Catch New Ultra Beasts
There are four Ultra Beasts that are new to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. One of these is Poipole, AKA UB Adhesive, which you will receive as a gift Pokémon during the main story immediately after defeating Ultra Necrozma in Ultra Megalopolis. Another new Ultra Beast is Naganadel, which Poipole will evolve into upon leveling up while knowing the move Dragon Pulse. Poipole can only learn Dragon Pulse via TM or Move Relearner.
The other two new Ultra Beasts are Stakataka, AKA UB Assembly, and Blacephalon, AKA UB Burst. These two can be caught in the post-game. After you have defeated the Elite Four and become the Alolan Champion, continue the game and attempt to leave your house. You will be given a new mission by the Ultra Recon Squad who state that Ultra Beasts have been terrorizing Poni Island. They will take you to a previously closed off location where you can find Stakataka in Ultra Moon or Blacephalon in Ultra Sun. They will appear in the grass like normal Pokémon, however, there will be only two of each available to catch. Prior to this, the Ultra Recon Squad will give you a few Beast Balls to catch these Ultra Beasts.

What Is An Ultra Beast
Following Pokemon Sun and Moons introduction of the Ultra Beasts, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon gives a couple of new Ultra Beasts that players can capture.
Ultra Beasts are Pokemon that originate from the Ultra Space. They appear in Alola by going through Ultra Wormholes and possess immense power. Ultra Beasts are drawn to people who went through Ultra Wormholes, as they sense residue of Wormhole Energy which they need to return to Ultra Space.
According to studies, Ultra Beasts that pass through the Ultra Wormhole tend to become disoriented when they reach Alola. Hence, they become highly combative.
The new Ultra Beasts are Poipole , Blacephalon , and Stakataka . Poipole can be caught in both Ultra Sun and Moon, while Blacephalon is exclusive only in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Stakataka is only available in Pokemon Ultra Moon.

How To Catch Solgaleo/lunala

To complete your Island Challenge, you will need to complete Minas trial and then defeat Hapu in the Grand Trial. After this, your Island Challenge will be complete and the only thing left to do in the main story is to conquer the newly established Alolan Pokémon League. Travel to Tapu Village on Ulaula Island and head north towards Mount Lanakila. At the base of the mountain, Gladion will appear and challenge you to a battle. After you defeat Gladion, he will tell you that he saw Lillie at Mahalo Trail on Melemele Island. Once Gladion tells you this, you are able to catch Solgaleo/Lunala. Return to Iki Town on Melemele Island and head north to Mahalo Trail. Right in front of the bridge where you first met Lillie, you will find her standing there next to Solgaleo/Lunala. Approaching them will prompt Lillie to tell you that she thinks Solgaleo/Lunala will be happier with you since you are a strong trainer. Now you will be able to interact with Solgaleo/Lunala, which will prompt a battle to begin.

How To Catch Necrozma
So back to Necrozma. When Necrozma first appears out of the Ultra Wormhole at the top of the Altar of the Sunne/Moone, it will fight with Solgaleo/Lunala, ultimately becoming victorious and absorbing Solgaleo to attain its Dusk Mane Form or absorbing Lunala to attain its Dawn Wings Form. You will now have to fight Necrozma in this new form. Keep in mind that you will be unable to catch Necrozma while it is in this form, so dont waste time trying to catch it, just defeat it. Necrozma will be on Level 50 here, which shouldnt present too much of a problem, especially if you have Pokémon in your party with type advantages. Dusk Mane Necrozma will have the moves Sunsteel Strike, Morning Sun, Psycho Cut and Night Slash, whereas Dawn Wings Necrozma will have the moves Moongeist Beam, Moonlight, Psychic and Power Gem.
Here, you can finally catch Necrozma. Necrozma is Level 65 here and knows the moves Photon Geyser, Iron Defense, Power Gem and Night Slash. If you succeed in capturing Necrozma, you will also receive Ultranecrozium Z, an item which will allow Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma to use Ultra Burst to transform into Ultra Necrozma, and which will allow Ultra Necrozma to use its Z-Move Light That Burns the Sky as long as Necrozma knows the move Photon Geyser. Once you catch Necrozma, Colress will appear and give you an N-Solarizer and an N-Lunarizer which will allow Necrozma to fuse with Solgaleo or Lunala respectively to become Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma.

Pokmon Go’s Missing Professor Could Create Openings For New Adventures
It is also possible that Ultra Wormholes in Pokémon GO could be an opening to improve Special Research Stories. For the past several years, the narratives introduced in these research projects have been minimal and driven by checklists of tasks for players to complete. The stories are given through Willow as he bobs about in a repetitive animation in front of his research camp. Because the stories lack any actual depth, it is easier to click through without reading to simply obtain the next task list. However, Professor Willow’s absence could be the perfect catalyst to change these stories up and help grab the attention of players.
The first big change that could come to Pokémon GO’s Special Research Stories is new locations. It is possible we could see Professor Willow in an Ultra Wormhole, or even stuck in a location beyond the Ultra Wormhole, far from his usual base camp. Players could also be taken to Rhi’s home after research in the current world is complete, giving Pokémon GO fans a chance to learn about an alternate reality or place beyond the Pokémon world never explored in the main series games. Both of these options would not only boost gameplay but act as an incentive to bring back players bored of the same basic premise behind each Special Research Story.

Upcoming Ultra Beast Pokmon In Pokmon Go
Only four Ultra Beasts have been announced for Pokémon Go so far, but there are officially 11 Ultra Beasts in total.
Here are the seven Ultra Beasts yet to be announced for Pokémon Go:
- Celesteela
- Stakataka
- Blacephalon
This doesn’t include Necrozma, Cosmog and their various evolutions and forms, as although the Pokémon have a shared connection with the extradimensional travellers with their Ultra Space abilities, they’re not actually classed as Ultra Beasts themselves.
The Season of Go has arrived! The Pokémon TCG Crossover event is here, which includes the release of Wimpod and Golisopod. While Go Fest 2022 may be behind us, there are still three special research quests you might be working on – Pokémon Go Fest 2022, Rhi’s Arrival and A Radiant World. How To Catch Cosmog
After you have defeated the Elite Four and become the Champion of the Alola region, you will have the opportunity to get a Cosmog. To do this, you will need to have Solgaleo/Lunala in your party, then return to the Altar of the Sunne/Moone at night in Ultra Sun or during the day in Ultra Moon. Once you are there, you will find a dimensional rift which you can interact with. Doing so will prompt a message, asking you if you want to go to Ultra Megalopolis, the Ultra Wormhole or the Reverse World. Go to the Reverse World. Here, you will be transported to an alternate dimension where things are mostly the same, but the time of day has been flipped. This means that it will be night in the game when it is day in real life and day in the game when it is night in real life in Ultra Sun or day in the game when it is day in real life and night in the game when it is night in real life in Ultra Moon. In the Reverse World, travel to the Lake of the Sunne/Moone, which is to the northeast of Ulaula Meadow on Ulaula Island. Here, Cosmog will appear and join your party voluntarily. Cosmog will be on Level 5 and only know Splash.
