The second generation of Pokemon actually loved to introduce items simply to evolve one or two Pokemon – no idea why these were never used again. Theres probably some nonsense lore reason about them not being available in other regions. Regardless, here are the Pokemon that evolve with the Sun Stone.

Gloom > Bellossom
Sunkern > Sunflora

Sunkern is one of the few Johto Pokemon that actually evolves with an item introduced in Johto. No idea why! The rest are all from Kanto.

How Do I Get A Dragon Scale

For those players who dont have a Dragon Scale already, you can find more of them by spinning Pokestops at random, though the chance is quite small.

That said, you should be spinning plenty of Pokestops as part of simply playing the game, so youll likely stumble on to a few of these sooner or later.

If your luck just isnt giving you the item you want specifically, you can check your research tasks special research sometimes gives fixed evolution items. Otherwise, try opening gifts if you can.

There are very few fixed ways to get Evolution items in the game check your available research rewards and simply keep trying is the best advice I can give if you cant find one so far.

What Do Evolution Items Do In Pokemon Go

If youve spun a Pokestop for the seventh day in a row or finished your weekly research breakthrough task and found a brand new shiny thing youve never seen before, you can say hello to your first Pokemon Go evolution item. You might even have a few you dont know you have, so pop into your items list and have a quick scroll.

Evolution items were introduced with the Gen 2 update all the way back in 2017 and mean a whole stack of new mon via evolution if you hoard your candy just right. So far, weve only got one fourth generation item, the Sinnoh Stone, but youre going to need it for a stack of 4th generation Pokemon evolutions. More on that below but the current evolution items are as follows:

Dragon Scale
Mossy Lure
Glacial Lure

Each one can be used to evolve one of your existing Pokemon into a new evolution. Below are each of the ways you can use evolution items.

How To Use The Magnetic Lure In Pokemon Go

The Magnetic Lure is one of three new types of lure in the game and it works much like a normal lure, with some slight modifications. For 30 minutes, extra Pokemon will be attracted to the lure, but while a normal lure can attract any type of Pokemon, a Magnetic Lure will only attract electric, steel, and rock type pocket monsters.

It’s also an evolution item! If you’re within the vicinity of a Poke Stop with a Magnetic Lure applied, you can evolve Magneton and Nosepass into Magnezone and Probopass respectively – provided you have enough candy, of course. If you don’t want to fork out 200 coins for one yourself, you could also wait until the next Pokemon Go Community Day and find someone else who’s used one!

Pokemon That Evolve Using Special Items

Right now, only eight Pokemon evolve using anything other than candy. Here’s a list and what you need to evolve them:

Gloom needs one sun stone and 100 candies to evolve into a Bellossom.
Sunkern need one sun stone and 50 candies to evolve into a Sunflora.
Poliwhirl needs one king’s rock and 100 candies to evolve into a Politoed.
Slowpoke needs one king’s rock and 50 candies to evolve into a Slowking.
Onix needs one metal coat and 50 candies to evolve into Steelix.
Scyther needs one metal coat and 50 candies to evolve into a Scizor.
Seadra needs one dragon scale and 100 candies to evolve into Kingdra.
Porygon needs one upgrade item and 50 candies to evolve into Porygon2.

How The New Evolution Items Work In ‘pokmon Go’

Evolution got a bit more complicated in Pokémon GO last night. Originally it was a pretty straightforward affair: you got candy for catching, walking and transferring Pokémon, which you then used to turn your Squirtles into Wartortles, your Bellsprouts into Weepinbells and so on. For the most part, that’s still how it works after the big Gen 2 update, except for a few noteworthy exceptions. Certain Pokémon now require either a steel coat, a sun stone, a king’s rock, a dragon scale or an upgrade to evolve, and these items are all random drops from Pokéstops. Let’s break them down:

The metal coat transforms Onix into Steelix or Scyther into Scizor.
The king’s rock transforms Slowpoke into Slowking or Poliwhirl into Politoed.
The dragon’s scale transforms Seadra into Kingdra.
The sun stone transforms Gloom into Bellossom or Sunkern into Sunflora.
The upgrade transforms Porygon into Porygon2.

Note that in many of these instances the items are used for branching evolution: you’ll still be able to evolve Slowpoke into Slowbro using plain old candy, but you’ll need the king’s rock as well as the candy to get yourself a Slowking. This will slow down some people that had been stockpiling candy for the purpose of filling out their Pokédex as quickly as possible: I’ve got plenty of Onix candy but still no metal coat to snag my Steelix.

How to use: You need to know your Pokemon’s exact level. To find exactly what level your Pokémon is, power up your Pokémon following this chart until you’re certain of your level from Stardust cost changes.

A Pokémon’s minimum level is 1.

Every time you power up, your Pokémon gains half a level.

How Do You Get Evolution Items In Pokmon Go

Most Evolution Items are rewarded as rare drops from PokéStop spins. They can also be earned by completing certain Research, winning in the Pokémon Go Battle League, defeating the Leaders of Team GO Rocket, or participating in events. The elemental Lure Modules can also be purchased in the PokéShop.

How to Get Evolution Items Pokemon GO | Seadra To Kingdra Evolution Dragon Scale

Like most Pokémon games, Pokémon GO allows Pokémon to evolve. However, rather than evolving by levelling up , evolution is achieved by collecting special Candy for each Pokémon.

Catching a Pokémon yields Candy named for the base form of that Pokémon – i.e. Bulbasaur Candy is awarded for catching a Bulbasaur, Ivysaur or Venusaur. First stage catches yield 3 Candy second stages yield 5 Candy and third stages yield 10 Candy. Transferring a Pokémon to Professor Willow gives an extra 1 Candy. Hatching Pokémon from eggs yields higher Candy amounts.

Below are the evolution charts for all Pokémon currently in the game data along with the amount of Candy required. Some evolutions require items or special conditions these are all noted where relevant.

Will There Be More In The Future

It’s very likely that there will be more of these items coming to Pokémon GO. There are many more Pokémon in later generations that evolve by using an item, whether it’s as a consumable or by holding something in particular and being traded. In fact, Gen 1 also had these, but it seems Niantic are reluctant to retroactively make it more difficult to acquire Pokémon like Vileplume, Victreebel, Poliwrath and Arcanine, all of which need items to evolve in the games.

How To Use A Dragon Scale In Pokmon Go

Once youve got a Dragon Scale, its simply a matter of using it on your Seadra. Youll need to have evolved Horsea first, unless youve caught a Seadra already.

Simply perform an evolution as you would normally, by tapping the Evolve button below the Power Up option on the Pokémons stat screen. This will require 100 Horsea candies and one Dragon Scale.

Then, hey presto! Youve got your very own Kingdra, one of the coolest Pokémon in the game. Be sure to show it off to all your friends and explain how hard it was to evolve. Getting a Dragon Scale in Pokémon Go might be a pain, but the end result is definitely worth it.

Other Special Cases For Evolution In Pokmon Go

While most Pokémon evolve with Candy and a possible Evoluton Item, there are some other Pokémon who evolve a little differently.

You can also get them in gifts, although this is again quite a slim chance. Alternatively Completing the special research line, A Ripple in Time, will earn you one.

Pokemon GO Dragon Scale Only Used For One Pokemon

Interestingly, this special evolutionary item is only used with one evolution. If you want to use a Dragon Scale, youll need a Seadra. Seadra evolves from Horsea, but you might be able to catch one if youre lucky.

When you do, youll need to combine the Dragon Scale with 100 Horsea Candies if you want to evolve Seadra into a Kingdra. You earn these candies in the traditional way Either you catch lots of Horsea with berries or you walk around with a Horsea as your Buddy Pokemon. You can also transfer spare Horsea to the Professor for candies Yknow, because youll probably have quite a few spare. Just make sure you check stats and appraise before you decide which Seadra to evolve!

How To Evolve Seadra Into Kingdra Using The Pokemon Go Dragon Scale Item

Pokemon Go does its best to remain loyal to the vision of the original Pokemon games, and while evolving Seadra into Kingdra required you to trade it with another player in those games, there’s at least one aspect of its evolution process that does carry over to Pokemon Go: The Dragon Scale evolution item.

Pokemon Go removes the trading requirement since that feature isn’t in the game, so all you need is the correct amount of Horsea Candy and the Dragon Scale. When you’ve got both in your possession – 100 Seadra Candy and 1 Dragon Scale – you’ll be able to evolve Seadra into Kingdra from the same menu and in the same way that you’re already used to. Simple!

How To Get A Dragon Scale

Getting a Dragon Scale in Pokemon Go is where things get difficult – it’s even harder, in fact, than getting together 100 Horsea Candy since you can now use the buddy Pokemon system to earn yourself extra candy as you walk around.

Getting the Dragon Scale isn’t so easy, especially since Pokemon Go doesn’t have it available as an easy-to-buy item from a shop or as a reward from an NPC like the main games. Instead it’s all down to luck: Dragon Scales drop at random from Pokestops.

There is a little twist to this, however. In order to guarantee an evolution stone drop you need to keep up your Pokestop Daily Bonus Streak – swipe a Pokestop every day and your streak will continue, and on the seventh day you’ll definitely get an Evolution item.

There are admittedly a number of these such as the Sun Stone, King’s Rock, Metal Coat and so on. On this you can only cross your fingers and hope you get lucky and get the Dragon Scale – but honestly, all of these items are useful for evolving to Pokemon such as Bellossom, Slowking and Scizor among others.

Hold on to any evolution stones you pick up even if you don’t or can’t use them right away – they’re rare, and they’re worth spending some inventory space on.

Evolving is one of the core mechanics of Pokémon Go. Most Pokémon only require candies of their respective species to evolve, and youll have a decent stack of any type of candy by the time youll start focusing on evolving your Pokémon.

Not all Pokémon are that easy to evolve, however. Youll need to collect unique evolutions items to evolve some of the rarer Pokémon in the game. Each new generation of Pokémon also introduces new evolution items, making it slightly more challenging to find the one youre looking for.

As of writing this article, there are seven evolution items in the game, each used to evolve different Pokémon.

What Are Evolution Items In Pokmon Go

Even the very first Pokémon games featured a handful of special case Pokémon who could only evolve with Evolution Items or other special methods. Even the most recognizable Pokémon out there, Pikachu requires an Evolution Item in the core Pokémon games. Pokémon Go has far fewer Evolution Items and special cases for Evolution than the core games, but there are a few.

The Evolution Items currently available in Pokémon Go:

If and when you get one, it’ll show up in your Items list alongside your Poké Balls, Potions, Lucky Eggs, etc.

How To Get Evolution Items

The only way to get evolution items is by spinning PokeStops. Like with the new berries, though, they don’t drop as often as balls and razz berries. After more than fifty spins at various stops, I only got one sun stone. Many others are reporting similar findings, with some reporting a drop rate of 1 percent or less. Your mileage may vary, but don’t expect to collect them quickly.

If you play the game every day, you can get at least one evolution item per week, though. When you get the seven-day streak bonus one evolution item is guaranteed to drop. This only counts for the First PokeStop of the Day streak, not the First Pokemon of the Day streak. The evolution item you get is totally random, but it’s better than just relying on a PokeStop drops.

Pokemon Go evolution items are crucial if you want to complete the Pokedex and collect some of the strongest Pokemon in the game. There are a lot of different items and methods for evolving Pokemon in Pokemon Go though, which is where this guide comes in handy. We’ve got all of the Pokemon Go evolution items listed here for you to peruse and learn exactly what they do, so you know which ones to hunt for.

What Does It Do

The Dragon Scale item, as mentioned above, is used for precisely one thing. Evolving a Pokemon.

That Pokemon, specifically, is Seadra. If you gather 100 Horsea candies and have a Dragon scale to hand, youll be able to evolve your Seadra into a Kingdra.

Is it worth doing? Well the 100 candies might take some effort to earn, unless youre constantly surrounded by Horsea.

Though with that said, as Dragon Scales only have the one purpose right now, you probably have one or two of them spare so if you can gather the candies for the evolution, you should be able to pull it off.

As for whether the evolution is worth it, Kingdra can reach a CP rating of 2641 at player level 40, without the best buddy boost. Thats a pretty solid water/dragon dual-type.

There’s a bunch of new Pokemon in the game now, but there’s only a few specific ones that will evolve with a Pokemon Go Unova Stone:

Pansage evolves into Simisage with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
Panpour evolves into Simipour with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
Pansear evolves into Simisear with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
Lampent evolves into Chandelure with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
Minccino evolves into Cinccino with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
