I know rydon was actually the first pokemon created. But as a story which pokemon was the first in the pokemon world to be known about?
were fossil pokemons the first?
were legendaries the first?
just out of curiosity and boredom who was the first?
I think it’s Arceus? I’m not too sure, not much of a Pokemon fan myself. Heard Arceus is essentially ‘God’ of the Pokemon verse though.

Pocket Monsters: The Origins
Tajiri, a video game designer and co-founder of Game Freak Magazine, created Pokémon around 1990, after conceptualizing a two-person battle with insects through the Game Boy Link Cable. As a child, Tajiri collected insects, a popular hobby in Japan. Pokémon, as you may know, is a portmanteau of the phrase Pocket Monsters. Originally the name was Capsule Monsters, but that had to be changed because of a trademark issue. Due to this, Nintendo rejected the 1st proposal by Tajiri. After the change to Pocket Monsters, the idea was again pitched to Nintendo, except it was by Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto is the genius behind Super Mario & Zelda. With his help, Nintendo approved Tajiris concept, even though they didnt fully understand it, and subsequently gave funding for the project.
Original Pokémon Artist, Ken Sugimori, joined the Game Freak team as an illustrator after checking out the magazine in 1981. Sugimori, along with Atsuko Nishida, Motofumi Fujiwara and Shigeki Morimoto designed all 151 original Pokémon characters.
Atsuko Nishida was the original Pikachu designer. She was tasked with designing 24 of the Generation 1 Pokémon, including Bulbasaur, Charmander, Charmeleon & Charizard.

Back To Kanto And Onward To The Battle Frontier
On January 29, 2004, two new games were released in Japan: Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. They arrived in North America on September 9, 2004, and were remakes of Pokémon Red and Green which brought the games up to Generation III standards, as well as adding wireless connectivity and a new region the Sevii Islands. These games also gave the event PokémonDeoxystwo additional forms, which could only be obtained by moving Deoxys to a FireRed or LeafGreen cartridge.
Not yet finished with the Hoenn story, Game Freak developed a third version to complement Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon Emerald. This game was released in Japan on September 16, 2004, and in North America on May 1, 2005. Emerald featured the same wireless connectivity as FireRed and LeafGreen, as well as an updated version of Hoenn with many new features, including the Hoenn Battle Frontier, the ability to re-battle Gym Leaders, an altered plot, and animations for all Pokémon, as in Crystal.
The animecaught up with both the Generation I remakes and Emerald by having the group travel back to Kanto and face the Kanto Battle Frontier there. During this season’s time two more movies were produced: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea .

It’s A Second Step Into Unova
It was always anticipated that Black and White would eventually get a third version, as past generations have. Many assumed it would be called “Pokémon Grey Version”. However, this time there would be sequels, and with a different plot altogether.
Sequels to Black and White, Pokémon Black and White Versions 2, were released to Japan in June 2012 and came to North America, Europe and Australia in October 2012. The games feature two new forms of Kyurem, called Black Kyurem and White Kyurem , as well as new forms of the Forces of Nature and Keldeo. The games take place two years after Black and White, and many things have changed in the Unova region.
Some manga series followed the release of the second paired versions, most notably a new chapter of Pokémon Adventures which began its serialization in July 2013 .

Next up, we have Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 for the 3DS.
Like the other RPGs, Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are an action role-playing video game thatre part of the fifth generation of the Pokémon video game series and are the sequels to Pokémon Black and White.
Released worldwide in 2012, theyre the first sequel in the series and feature the legendary Pokémon, Black Kyurem and White Kyurem.
The games are set approximately two years after the events of Black and White and are set in the Unova region. They feature 300 new Pokémon and creatures that were not featured in Black and White.
Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 received good reviews from critics and had combined sales of 7.81 million by January 2013.
Theyre available to play in both single-player and multiplayer.

Pokemon Gameboy The Start Of Something Special
But to understand the Pokemon phenomenon, you have to look at the mind behind it. Satoshi Tajiri, the designer of the game, started working as a publisher for game freak, a fanzine about video games he created himself. The original edition of the fanzine was written by hand and distributed independently.
Later on, the young Satoshi started working with a man by the name of Ken Sugimori who began working as an illustrator for the fanzine. After many discussions with his team, Satoshi realized that video games were lacking in quality. He and his team then decided that the best idea was to released their own games.
Satoshi then started to learn the programming language that was necessary to develop games on the Nintendo Famicom, which was the prominent Nintendo console at the time in Japan. Satoshi and his team pitched their first game to Namco, which was named Quinty, and the game had relative success.
Satoshi then began working with the game boy console and evolved the concept for the Pokemon game. Nintendo was so impressed by the idea that they decided to elaborate on the concept. Satoshi wanted to exploit the connectivity options of the game boy console by allowing players to interact and collaborate with each other instead of just competing.
Rhydon Was The First Pokemon Ever Created

If you were to ask someone what the first Pokemon ever created is, youd probably receive answers such as Pikachu and Bulbasaur. In actuality, however, Rhydon the 112th Pokemon registered in the Pokedex was created first. That little factoid comes from Ken Sugimori, one of the original designers of the first generation of Pokemon titles.
That does make sense, as Rhydons data can be found first in Red/Green. Also, this explains the statues that you see when you first step into a gym in Pokemon Red/Blue. The icon doesnt look like Rhydon completely, but its pretty darn close!

The First Pokemon Ever Created Isnt What You Think
When most people think of the first Pokemon created, they tend to assume Pikachu was the original capsule monster. If the little yellow mouse was your guess, youre wrong. The first Pokemon created isnt any of the typical starter Pokemon either. In fact, youll like never guess the correct answer.
Its Rhydon.
This large, grey Pokemon looks to be part dinosaur, part rhino. As the evolved form of Rhyhorn, Rhydon uses its powerful horn in hard-hitting attacks and its armor-like hide to withstand heat and tough physical blows. Overall, Rhydon is an extremely strong and worthwhile Pokemon.
But why was Rhydon the first Pokemon ever created?
In an interview with Ken Sugimori, the illustrator of the original artwork for the Pokemon games, its revealed that the original designs for Pokemon were more like dinosaurs. This explains Rhydons dino-like characteristics. Youll also find Rhydon listed as the first Pokemon in Pokemon Red and Greens programming data.
Because of Rhydons significance, youll often find statues of the Pokemon throughout the original games.

The First Video Games
Production for Pokémon games Red & Green began in 1991. Over the next 5 years, Game Freak nearly went bankrupt, with the company barely able to pay employees. Five employees quit due to the lack of funding. Satoshi Tajiri worked without salary during the tough times, taking assistance from his father. Running out of money to complete the games, Creatures Inc. joined the fray by providing the necessary funding to finish the games in exchange for 33% of the Pokémon franchise rights.
Fast-forward to February 27, 1996, when Pokémon Red and Green versions on Nintendo Gameboy were released in Japan. The original games were not an instant success, but after CoroCoro Magazine issued a Pokémon offer to provide Mew to 20 contestants, over 78,000 people signed up and demand for the games soared. Pokémon Blue was released in Japan on October 15, 1996. The game provided upgrades to the graphics and music. The original three Pokémon games sold a total of 10.23 Million copies. Pokmon World Championships No 1 Trainer

The first of two rare and valuable Pokémon cards called No. 1 Trainer on this list, this particular card was awarded to winners of the regional Battle Road Spring tournaments held in Japan during early 2002.
The regional tournaments were held as qualifiers for the Pokémon World Championships, with the small number of No. 1 Trainer cards produced for the few winners making them some of the rarest Pokémon cards in existence.
Adding to the card’s rarity is the fact that each No. 1 Trainer card was customised with the name of the tournament winner printed onto the card, making each card one-of-a-kind. According to auction house Heritage Auctions, the personalised aspect of the cards also mean that they rarely appear at auction, making them an even rarer sight in the world of Pokémon cards.
The 2002 No. 1 Trainer card was illustrated by Ken Sugimori, best known as being one of the original artists and designers for Pokémon’s first generation of 151 Pokémon. The text on it reads: “The Pokémon Card Game Official Tournament Battle Road Spring 2002 champion is recognised here, and his honour is praised.” Sugimori’s No. 1 Trainer artwork – featuring fan-favourite Pokémon such as Pikachu, Chansey and Marrill – is exclusive to the card, making it especially unique.
Seven’s A Lucky Number
The seventh generation of Pokémon was announced on February 27, 2016, the franchise’s 20th anniversary with the new games Pokémon Sun and Moon and was released on November 18, 2016.
The anime was quick to follow with a new series, Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. As with the previous four series, Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon began with Ash Ketchum, headed off to the new region with his Pikachu. His previous companions, Clemont, Bonnie and Serena, have left the series. Ash Ketchum heads off to a new region, Alola, wearing a new set of clothes with his partner Pikachu. He receives a Z-Ring and becomes a student at the Pokémon School on Melemele Island. Lillie, Kiawe, Mallow, Lana, and Sophocles joined him in the series as his classmates. For the first time in the anime’s history, Ash wins a game-original Pokémon League and becomes a Champion.
The seventh generation broke several trends within the core series, such as abandoning HM moves, replacing Gyms with island challenge trials, and introducing Legendary Pokémon part of an evolutionary line.

Pokmon Red & Blue: Us
Pokémon Red & Blue are the remakes of the original 1996 versions and were re-released across the U.S. in 1998.
They were the first Pokémon games to be released outside of Japan and were available to play on the Game Boy, Nintendo 3DS, and the Virtual Console.
They follow the same storyline and objectives as the originals but with slightly improved graphics.
Upon release, Pokémon Red & Blue: U.S. received positive reviews and became two of the best selling role-playing games of all time.
Pokmon Diamond & Pearl
Coming in at number eight are Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
These two role-playing games are the first instalments in the fourth generation of the Pokémon video game series and were developed by Game Freak.
The games were first released in Japan in 2006 and then North America, Australia and Europe in 2007.
Similar to the previously mentioned games on the list, Diamond and Pearl follow the adventures of a trainer who does battle with Pokémon whilst trying to prevent criminal organisations evil plans.
This version introduces several new features, one of which, allows players to play online using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Others include battle mechanics and Pokémon contests.
The added Wi-Fi feature and gameplay was praised by critics upon release and the game has become one of the most successful Pokémon games of all time!

Answeing the question of which Pokémon is the oldest can be a little tricky depending on how you define oldest.
