Pokmon Has A New Open
Well, here we are again, talking about one of my kinds of games. Ive always thought that Pokémon games were somewhat open-world, but after playing other open-world games, the Pokémon settings seem so small and restrictive. However, thats all about to change. It appears that the Pokémon open-world is about to get bigger and more spread out with Pokémon Legends Arceus!
The announcement of this newest game came out over the weekend of February 27th, which marked the 25th Anniversary of Pokémon. . Although 2022 seems like a long way off, we do have some details about what can be expected from Arceus. I emphasize some because what we know so far is just enough to pique our interest, but not enough to tell us all that we want to know at this early stage, which is expected.
You probably know that drill by now, but if youre new here, this is how it works: Im just going to cover the basics of what we know and whats been confirmed so far. I dont like getting too caught up in conjecture. I like sticking to the concrete facts that have been revealed and confirmed so far. However, that doesnt mean that I dont want to hear your thoughts and expectations for this game. Scarlet And Violet Will Combine Legends With A Traditional Pokmon Experience
Scarlet and Violet‘s announcement trailer features a combination of beloved aspects of the franchise and new innovations that will refresh the mainline Pokémon experience. The reveal introduces a brand new region inspired by Spain, which is exciting for fans who enjoy exploring the diverse locales Pokémon is known for, like Galar and Alola being based on the United Kingdom and Hawaii, respectively. Even though each region takes inspiration from the real world, Pokémon‘s vibrant art style always pops off the screen thanks to the franchises signature color pallet.
A new generation of Pokémon also means new creatures so fans can continue their quest to “catch ’em all.” Debate over which starter is the best devours social media discussion every time a new game is announced, and Scarlet and Violet‘s starters are no different. Another franchise characteristic is the emphasis on battling Pokémon and conquering gyms, which the game’s website makes clear will return in Scarlet and Violet. By combining the hallmarks of a proper Pokémon game with some of Legends‘ innovations, Scarlet and Violet have a good chance of appealing to fans of series by delivering both the old and the new.

Capturing Pokmon And Their Reactions:
The gameplay mechanics of capturing Pokémon has had the largest overhaul. The way Pokémon react in the wild when you approach them is something weve never seen, for example Sudowoodo will freeze and act like a tree if it thinks youve spotted it.
Magikarp will flop over to you, no matter how strong your team is. There are even the more simple reactions, Starly is a timid Pokémon so itll run away if it notices you getting too close.
The new mechanics almost bring in a sense of skill when trying to capture your desired Pokémon, sneaking up behind one gives a boost to the chances of capturing one successfully, there are also things like berries and items you can use to distract or stun Pokémon to increase your chances, which is completely different to the days of old where you had to rely on luck alone.
When And Where Does Pokmon Legends: Arceus Take Place
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a prequel set hundreds of years before Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, two classic Pokémon games first released on DS in 2006.
The game takes place in the Hisui region, the name of the settlement area that eventually becomes the Sinnoh region of Diamond and Pearl. Like previous Pokémon games, players choose one of three starting Pokémon as a partner: Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott. Players are then tasked with studying large natural areas in the Hisui region and the Pokémon who live there.

Pokmon Legends: Arceus Won’t Actually Be An Open
When Pokémon Legends: Arceus was originally revealed it was described and compared quite a lot to open-world games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While PR and early footage of the game certainly gave the impression of an open-world environment that you’d be able to walk from one location to the next, it seems this won’t entirely be the case.
The Pokémon Company has shared a statement in response to a story on Kotaku, which seems to clarify how it will be more like series such as Monster Hunter – with segmented areas. While it didn’t specifically reference that game, it explains how you as the trainer will set out from the village to “various open areas” of the Hisui region to complete tasks. Here’s the statement:
“In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Jubilife Village will serve as the base for surveying missions. After receiving an assignment or a request and preparing for their next excursion, players will set out from the village to study one of the various open areas of the Hisui region. After they finish the survey work, players will need to return once more to prepare for their next task. We look forward to sharing more information about exploring the Hisui region soon.”
So, there you go – it’s not the kind of open-world title some might have been thinking of, or drawing comparisons to. This new entry in the series will arrive on Switch on 28th January next year. Most recently, we got a look at the new evolution of Scyther.
Repetition Can Get Stale After A While:
Repetition and grinding is a thing in most games, which for casual players is the bane of their existence.
Its understandable that there are grinding elements in this game, catching the illustrious Pokémon such as Arceus requires a ton of work, but youd never expect repetitive and grinding moments in the main story which is a bit of a letdown and shouldve been avoided from the start.

What Pokemon Legends: Arceus Gets Right About Open World Games
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a fantastic game, the most ambitious title in the franchises 25-year history. Its good enough to recommend to any lapsed fan tired of a series that badly needed an upheaval. Developer Game Freak seems to have finally committed to experimenting with a true 3D exploration of its monster-catching formula. This means seeing Pokémon in 3D environments that mimic real animal habitats, and going beyond the menu-driven role-playing system that has defined the series since 1996.
Most critics are in agreement: The game is a great foundation for the future of the series. But as wonderful as the game is to experience right now, theres a nagging sense that Game Freak is only on the cusp of really knocking it out of the park. All it would take is for the studio to grasp the concepts of good open-world game design. The game gets a lot of core elements right. But there are a few things future iterations will need to finally offer the dream Pokémon game.
How Does The Battle System Work In Pokmon Legends: Arceus
Fights in Pokémon Legends: Arceus are still turn-based, but the game will transition directly from exploration into the battle when you engage a Pokémon. Players still catch and train a team of Pokémon too, but the battle system has been modified to give players more strategic options with different attack styles and approaches.
For example, if you distract a Pokémon with bait before you try to catch it, you’ll get multiple chances to attack before the wild Pokémon can respond.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a brand new open-world action-RPG adventure game in the Pokémon franchise, was announced at todays Pokémon Presentation.
Set in a feudal version of the Sinnoh region we know and love, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a brand-new open-world title from Game Freak. Its supposed to be an exciting new approach, one that will break new ground for the Pokémon series. While not a whole load of information was offered up about the new title, there are a few pieces of information we can glean from the trailer, and the narrator.
It Sounds Like Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Are Going Truly Open World
The Pokemon Company clearly want people to know that the two new games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, are going to be truly open-world adventures.
Announced today as part of the Pokemon Day Direct, the titles certainly looked like they would offer an open-world structure, at least similar to that of Pokemon Legends Arceus.
However, with the official trailer now live on YouTube, the description clearly states that this is our introduction to the “open world of Pokemon”.
It reads:
“Welcome to the open world of Pokémon. Embark on an open-world adventure in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, arriving on Nintendo Switch in late 2022.”
I mean, The Pokemon Company can’t really make it much clearer than that, can it?
Update: Well, it turns out it can. A brand new website for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have now gone live. Along with some stunning official screenshots, we also got additional confirmation of that open world structure, which reads:
“With these new titles, the Pokémon series takes a new evolutionary step, allowing you to explore freely in a richly expressed open world.”

Pokmon Legends: Arceus Will Not Be An Open World Game
The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Arceus won’t be an open world game, and will have a structure similar to Monster Hunter.
It has been confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will not be an open world game and that it will be closer to the Monster Hunter series than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, in terms of its gameplay style. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an upcoming RPG that is set in the Hisui region, which is the ancient version of the Sinnoh region from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
The original trailers for Pokémon Legends: Arceus showed a game that was more akin to Breath of the Wild than the regular mainstream Pokémon games. The player was shown exploring the wild frontier of the Hisui region, with Pokémon wandering around on the world map, in a similar manner to the Wild Areas in Pokémon Sword and Shield. The Hisui region is guarded by Noble Pokémon, which are akin to the massive elite monsters and bosses seen in Breath of the Wild.

The gameplay style in Pokémon Legends: Arceus won’t be as free-roaming as the original trailers suggested. In a statement made to Kotaku, The Pokémon Company confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Arceus won’t be an open world game. Instead, the gameplay will feature a mission/level-based structure.
Legends Arceus Is Truly An Open
Yes, the game is set 100 years in the past so there wont be the big bustling cities weve seen in previous titles, but there are certain areas, fields, caves where theres just nothing there or theres the common Pokémon we see all over the game, rather than the rare ones.
Its been great seeing Pokémon roam around freely where you dont have to capture them by entering long grass and battling them, but the idea of creating roaming Pokémon has come with a lot of open space.
Too many times have I been roaming around a field and theres nothing in sight while Im trying to complete a species entry, however, the idea is a good one, but needs more care and attention to make it really pop in future titles.

Pokmon Legends: Arceus What’s Not Good
The main problem with the game is obvious as soon as you start: The visuals are incredibly subpar. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought this was an indie game and not a title made by the biggest franchise in history. The locations often looked unfinished or not fully rendered. I quickly saw patterns in the water and grass that made the world look cheap. The snowy area, in particular, looked like it was still an early demo rather than a finished product.
Trees and hills populate at a jarring rate as you walk in any direction, pulling you away from the illusion that you’re exploring some enormous space. The background also frequently freaks out with the grass stretching and shrinking in a glitchy manner. I even found a number of trees that weren’t actually in the ground but were rather just floating in the air. Pokémon Sword and Shield received similar criticism concerning low textures in the Wild Area, and it’s made all the worse in Legends: Arceus.
Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Is Open World Pokemon Home Compatibility
Developed by GAME FREAK inc., Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet take a new evolutionary step in the Pokémon main series. Trainers can explore an open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness. Pokémon can be seen everywhere in this wide-open worldin the skies, in the sea, and on the streets.As one of the main characters, Trainers will jump into the world of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet to begin their adventure, where they will have a different outfit depending on which game they are playing. Trainers will then choose either Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon, Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon, or Quaxly, the Duckling Pokémon to be their first partner Pokémon before setting off on their journey.After their release, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be able to link with Pokémon HOME, a service that allows Trainers to keep their entire Pokémon collection in one place. By linking these games with Pokémon HOME, Trainers will be able to have Pokémon from other regions adventure alongside them in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

A Promising New Experience
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is the most ambitious Pokemon game yet, offering the catch-and-fight Pokemon experience across wide open lands, with the most direct interactivity seen in any game in the series. Unlike what Breath of the Wild did for Zelda, though, Arceus doesnt reach quite as far in its mix-up of the classic formula, and so doesnt succeed nearly as much. This isnt the open-world Pokemon game that fans want, but its the closest the series has gotten to it. It lacks Breath of the Wild and Skyrim’s dense points of interest and engaging interactivity, so you shouldnt go into the game expecting a similar experience.
For all these complaints, Arceus is still a fun and content-filled game if you go into it with the right expectations. At heart, its a mish-mash of Monster Hunter and Pokemon Snap, and that formula works well. You wont find countless little alcoves to explore and puzzles to solve, but you will find loads of Pokemon to catch, train, and research, and thats a very fun process in itself. Arceus is worth playing if you enjoy Pokemon, as it manages to be close enough to the mainline Pokemon games in concept to satisfy fans looking for something new until the ninth-generation games are announced.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl was a game that the developers tried to get up into the marketplace several years ago at this point. Unfortunately, development was scrapped but was picked back up once again, with players now expecting this title to launch in 2022. Much like the first game, players take the role of a stalker who ventures into The Zone, an area filled with radiation due to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Here, you will seek out goods and come face to face with horrific mutated creatures and abnormalities. Furthermore, this will feature a seamless open-world experience where you can freely explore the dangerous post-apocalyptic wilderness. Unfortunately, we havent seen much footage of the world well get to explore at this point, but the developers are still pushing for a launch within 2022 so well have to keep tabs on this game.

Video: Three Pokmon Games In One Year Game Freak Slow Down
It seems like only yesterday that Pokémon Legends: Arceus came out. And although it wasn’t yesterday, it was only… one month ago. That’s basically no time at all in the world of video games, and we’ve just received word that the next Pokémon game is not only in the works it’s ready to be revealed, and it’s coming out later this year. Can someone check that Game Freak haven’t been locked in their office?
It’s pretty unusual for two Pokémon games to be released in such a short time, even with the added complications of the pandemic, and Pokémon Legends being entirely different from other mainline Pokémon games. And don’t forget: The Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes came out in late 2021, which means we’re currently on track for three Pokémon games in a single year.
Granted, BDSP was outsourced, and the Pokémon Legends team is separate from the new Pokémon team, but that’s still one heck of a lot of work!
