Another Kalos Starter For Any Pokmon
After beating the Elite Four for the first time in the Kalos games, youll be greeted by the friendly Shauna.
For the first time ever in a Pokémon game, you have the opportunity to trade any Pokémon you have, for the chance to obtain a second Kalos starter!
This starter itself will be the type that was weaker to the starter you originally chose. So for example if you chose Fennekin, you would get Froakie the second time around.
This has little in-game benefits, with the story being over when you receive the trade.
But its still a nice touch to receive two starters in one save file.
Should Have Traded: Emolga For Gigalith
If the player travels to Route 7 in Black 2 & White 2, Hiker Manny will offer to trade his Gigalith for an Emolga, a Pokémon that can be found on that very same Route. Not only is this an easy trade to make happen, but Manny’s Gigalith is a reasonable level 35, meaning it won’t take forever to level up and join the team.
Interestingly enough, this Gigalith is the only NPC traded Pokémon in the game to not have a unique nickname .

Should Have Traded: Luvdisc For Steelix
A Steelix for a Luvdisc? Yes, you read that correctly. Though X & Y had the infamous Gyarados for Magikarp trade, it also had a trainer named Farris in Cyllage City’s Pokémon Center who will trade a Steelix for a Luvdisc.
Thumper, the Steelix, is female and comes at level 20. Just the sheer size difference of the two Pokémon alone is enough to laugh at, but to receive such a strong and fully evolved Pokémon so early in the game will make the rest of the game undoubtedly easier.

Can You Get All 3 Starters In Pokemon Emerald
You can only get one of each starter in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. The rest have to be obtained by trades with other players. Unfortunately this means in order to get Torchic, Mudkip and Treecko on the same team at a time, you have to hope someone bred the starters you dont have and is willing to trade with you.

Kantonian Marowak For Alolan Marowak
The base game of Sword & Shield has some decent in-game trades, but with the addition of the Isle of Armor DLC, players are able to get their hands on some of the better regional variants in the series. One such variant, which is easily one of the best alterations to come out of Alola, is Marowak, which has the potential to have the Lightning Rod ability when traded.
In order to obtain this Marowak, however, players not only need to have a Kantonian Marowak, which can be easily caught in the Isle of Armor region, but they also have to track down the roaming trader who appears in multiple locations in the region. Unfortunately, this trade takes some trial and error as not only is her location randomized, but the Pokemon she puts up for trade is also random.

Never Should Have: Spearow For Farfetch’d
Farfetch’d has gotten plenty of love with its new Galarian form, but its trade in Red & Blue is still a classic lesson of patience. The trade most likely represents the Japanese Idiom of a duck with a leek, meaning a sucker who walks naively into his fate. As such, someone easily manipulated could be called a kamo or ‘duck.’
Trading Spearow for Farfetch’d seems like a good idea at first: Farfetch’d is stronger than Spearow, and the player could easily enough think the trade is a good idea. The player then realizes later on that they could have had a strong Fearow, as opposed to a still unevolved Farfetch’d with rather bad stats. Sometimes, it’s better to raise a Pokémon with love and patience, rather than take the first deal that is offered.

Should Have Traded: Ditto For Rotom
Rotom was introduced as one of the many Pokémon haunting the Old Chateau in Sinnoh, and its popularity has only increased with its inclusion in the Alolan and Galar region games.
With six different forms in total, Rotom has true versatility and is somewhat similar to Ditto in this way, though arguably the superior fighter. On the battlefield, Rotom cleans up, and not just because it’s a washing machine. By trading any Ditto with Lillian on Route 15, you’ll receive a level 60 Rotom named Eeks, the only way to obtain a Rotom in the game without trading with other players.

Grimer For Alolan Grimer
As the Let’s Go games are remakes of the original Pokemon Yellow, there aren’t any Dark-type Pokemon native to the region, which can make trainers like Sabrina quite difficult for players to overcome. To compensate for this, players are able to trade Kantonian forms of Ratatta, Meowth, and Grimer for their Alolan forms, all of which are Dark-type.
Some of these trades are version-exclusive though, with this one being exclusive to Let’s Go Pikachu. The best of these Kantonian-for-Alolan trades, unfortunately for Let’s Go Eevee players, is Alolan Grimer, as its Dark- and Poison-typing is one of the best defensive combinations in the game as it is only weak to Ground-type moves.

Stadium And Translating Ots
So, my understanding is that in European language releases, if a Pokémon obtained from an in-game trade is traded to a different European language game, the original Trainer “TRAINER” will be translated to that language . On the other hand, in European language Pokémon Stadium, the original Trainer “TRAINER” will instead be displayed in Title case, but still translated to the language of that game. This should indicate one of three things:
- Any Pokémon with the OT “TRAINER” will have its OT translated when traded to another European language game.
- The OT is not stored as “TRAINER”, but as something else, which is then converted into “TRAINER” in the game’s local language
- There’s some special flag in the Pokémon’s data that is only set for in-game traded Pokémon

Like the Machamp trade in Pokemon Yellow, players are able to gain a trade evolution Pokemon in Sun & Moon that can save time and hassle for players who can’t trade with a friend. Gastly can be found fairly early on in Hau’oli Cemetary or Memorial Hill, so catching and evolving it into a Haunter isn’t very hard.

The cruelest trick ever played by an NPC. In Snowpoint City, the player can trade a Medicham for NPC Mindy’s Haunter. Reasonably, the player would expect to receive a Gengar, similar to the Machoke trade in Pokémon Yellow. Even the Japanese version of Pokémon Blue features a trade where the player offers Machoke in exchange for Haunter and receives a Gengar in return.
This is where many players were tricked by Mindy. The Haunter will not evolve as it is holding an Everstone that prevents evolution. We can only hope this article will prevent others from falling for her con.
