Here’s a rundown of all the biggest events happening in Pokemon Go in May 2021.

Pokemon Go May 2020 Research Breakthrough Encounter

Players will find that the electric character known as Shinx will be the Research Breakthrough encounter for the fan-favorite mobile game beginning at 1 PM PDT on Friday, May 1st. Shinx will then be the focus of this particular activity for the community until a new character takes Shinx’s spot beginning on Monday, June 1st at 1 PM PDT. Trainers will also see that the Shinx that they come across through the May 2020 Research Breakthrough encounter will come with bonus Shinx candies. These bonus candies will help you evolve the Shinx you catch into its evolved forms of Luxio and Luxray. There is a possibility that Trainers can get to experience having a total of three new characters when they complete the Pokemon GO May 2020 Research Breakthrough encounter.

Shinx arrives at the Research Breakthrough encounter for Pokemon GO in May 2020 following Alolan Exeggutor, who was at the focus of this particular activity during April. Players are sure to be excited to see that there is a new character for them to interact with and catch for the fifth of this year when previous months have sometimes seen the same character be at the center of this activity two times in a row. Unfortunately, players who did not catch Alolan Exeggutor during the April Research Breakthrough encounter in April will not be able to anymore in May 2020.

How To Get Ditto In Pokemon Go Research Breakthrough

At the start of every month, a new Research Breakthrough is introduced to the game. Players who log in will automatically be given a single Field Research task every day that rewards a stamp upon completion.

You can only collect one stamp per day, so Trainers will need to complete these quests across a total of seven days to reach the final goal which currently triggers an encounter with Ditto.

New Field Research tasks can also be received by spinning PokeStops, although the game still limits you to receiving a single stamp per day.

New Research Breakthrough Encounters For Pokmon Go Start May 1

Niantic confirmed that the new Research Breakthrough encounters for Pokémon GO will be Ho-OH, Lugia, Latias, and Latios. The new encounters start May 1 at 4 p.m. EDT and go all the way to the end of June.

For those not familiar, research tasks are a game mechanic that offer Trainers rewards once they complete daily research objectives. Tasks are obtained at PokéStops and require players to, among others, catch a specific Pokémon, perform certain actions, or battle in Gyms. The tasks are easy enough that casual players can complete them in around 15 to 30 minutes.

That said, the more difficult the task, the better the reward. While research tasks can be cancelled in order to get other tasks, there is no limit to the number of tasks that a player can complete per day.

Once a Field Research task is completed, players get one Stamp, limited to one per day. When a player reaches seven stamps, that player gets what is known as a Research Breakthrough, which includes exclusive rewards.

Niantic also provided updates on Eggs.

Beginning April 26 at 4 p.m. EDT, different Pokémon now hatch from eggs. For two kilometer eggs, Trainers can expect to hatch Bonsly, Chimchar, Piplup, and Turwig, among many others. For five kilometer eggs, Trainers can expect to see Bronzor, Buizel, Combee, Croagunk, Cubone, Glameow, and Skorupi. For 10 kilometer eggs, expect to find Absol, Cranidos, Mawile, Riolu, Shinx, and Shieldon.

What Is Special Research

Special Research are tasks that are typically story-based or tied to an in-game celebration. Players who log in during events such as Go Fest or Valentines Day will get a set of unique tasks and objectives.

While Field Research tasks are obtained at random, these limited-time quests are the same for all players, and will often lead to encounters with Mythical Pokemon such as Mewtwo or Rayquaza. Its a very similar concept to Field Research, except with bigger rewards.

How To Get Every Currently Available Alolan Pokmon In Pokmon Go

How Do Alolan Pokmon Work In Pokmon Go

#3 MAY RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGH in Pokemon Go

Alolan Forms are visually and often statistically different version of Pokémon – giving them different Types and properties – and first debuted in the main games are exclusively found in the Gen 7 region of Alola.

Alolan Pokémon appear as Forms, similar to other creatures with multiple Forms such as Castform.

Though they won’t take up a new Pokedex entry, they will have their own field within that entry, which is also how Shinies work.

Like Castform, these Alolan Forms will show up as silhouettes on your radar, helping you find them easier.

Because they are Forms, the good news is they share the Candy of the Pokémon they based on. So if you have plenty of Grimer Candy from when you have caught them in the past, and hatch an Alolan Grimer, you can instantly evolve it into an Alolan Muk.

Also, as of June 2019, all Alolan Pokemon can be shiny.
