How To Make Pokemon Follow You In Sword And Shield

How to get Pokémon to follow you in Pokémon Sword and Shields Isle of Armor expansion

The way to get Pokemon to start following you in the overworld is to complete Master Mustards dojo trials all 3 of them. Here are the trials that you need to complete:

  • The first trial involves finding and beating three fast Slowpokes
  • The second one is all about looking for Max Mushrooms
  • And the third one will be a Pokemon battle with a new rival. In Sword, your rival will be Klara and in Shield, Avery will be your opponent. Both of these rivals have made some changes to the Battlefield , which will make for an exciting battle.

When you complete all trials by Master Mustard of the Dojo, you dont have to do anything else. He will give you the ability to have your Pokemon trailing you as you move around the Isle of Armor. The first Pokemon that is in your party will be able to do this and wont be limited to the Poke ball anymore. Plus, Master Mustard will give you a Secret Armor the Pokemon Kubfu. Kubfu is a legendary fighting-type Pokemon which can be evolved to Urshifu. As you can tell, its presence is central to the Isle of Armor DLC.

This is how your lead Pokemon can follow you around on The Isle of Armor. You can whistle to make them run towards you. This surely makes for some funny moments based on which Pokemon you have. The speed of every Pokemon is different and seeing them trying to catch up to you is quite hilarous to be honest. You will surely have a great time with this new feature.

Buddy Find Locations Explained

Ultra Buddies get a Find Locations bonus which is quite confusing to new players. Heres what that actually means :

Your buddy may draw your attention to a nearby PokéStop they find interesting. If you visit the PokéStop and spin its Photo Disk while there is an indicator above the PokéStop, you will earn bonus items and an Affection heart in the Bonus category.

Complete The Three Dojo Trials To Unlock Pokemon Follow Ability

When you arrive on the Isle of Armor you will meet your rival. Once youve done this you will make your way to the Master Dojo where you will meet Master Mustard. Master Mustard agrees to take you on as a student. As a student of the Dojo you will get the chance to compete in three trials. Completing the following trials unlocks you a few rewards:

  • Get three Max Mushrooms from Warm-Up Tunnel.
  • Defeat your rival in a Dojo battle.
  • Once youve successfully completed all of three Dojo trials Master Mustard will reward you with the secret armor and the ability to have pokemon follow you around on the Isle of Armor. The pokemon that follows you is the one in the first slot of your party list, meaning if you want to change which pokemon follows you will need to move the one you want to follow to the first slot.

Besides having a pokemon follow you around there is no other impact of this game mechanic. Also keep in mind the following pokemon wont show in buildings or back on the main island. This following mechanic only applies to the Isle of Armor .

Conversely if you are a soul-less person who doesnt like having your pokemon follow you around you can turn off this feature by speaking to the Pikachu kid inside the Dojo kitchen. This NPC will ask you about taking your pokemon for a stroll. Select Yes to have them follow you or no to put them away.

    Pokmon Sword And Shield

In Sword and Shield, after completing the third trial in the Master Dojo, Mustard will allow the Pokémon in the players first party slot to follow them around the Isle of Armor. Some will even follow the player into the water if they are a Water-type Pokémon capable of swimming or if they are a Flying-type Pokémon or Pokémon capable of flying or levitating. Otherwise, Pokémon that do not follow these attributes will disappear if the player enters the water, but will reappear once the player reaches land. The speed at which Pokémon move will vary from individual Pokémon. This feature can be toggled off by an NPC in the Master Dojo if the player so wishes.

The feature carries over to the Crown Tundra once the player reaches Freezington and meets the mayor for the first time, who will give the player the right to have the first Pokémon in their party follow them around the Crown Tundra. The same features from the Isle of Armor carry over, and likewise, the feature can be toggled off by an NPC in Freezington.

Walking Pokémon is exclusive to the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra locations, and does not carry over to mainland Galar.

    How To Find Alolan Diglett

MAKE POKÉMON FOLLOW YOU (Pokemon Sword and Shield, Isle of Armor)!

Alolan Diglett are absolutely everywhere on the Isle of Armor, and there are 151 to find. The first is simple, the rest are not.

Essentially you just need to look for the three little hairs sticking out of the ground. When you spot them, investigate, and you’ll see a Diglett.

A nice concession is that the game lets you know how many more Diglett are in any given area, so you won’t spend too much time looking in a cleared zone.

    Berries And Buddy Mood

Feeding your Buddy Berries will fill up its Hunger meter. As time goes on, your Buddy will get hungry and its mood will reduce. There are 6 segments in the Hunger meter and each segment lasts for 30 minutes. Your Buddy will deplete the entire Hunger meter in 3 hours.

Depending on the type of Berry you use, the Hunger meter will fill up differently:

    • Razz Berry, Pinap Berry and Nanab Berry grant 2 bars
    • Golden Razz Berry and Silver Pinap Berry grant 6 bars

Swapping out your Buddy will make it Hungry instantly, which can be useful to quickly collect Affection Hearts for this category. Be careful, as walking distance will be reset on swap.

Your Buddy will become hungry even if the game is not running.

How To Make Pokemon Follow You In Isle Of Armor

To get Pokemon to follow you in Isle of Armor, youll first need to play through a portion of the expansions story. When you start making your way through the story in the Isle of Armor area, youll encounter the dojo. This will serve as the main hub for the area, and its here that youll be able to turn on or off the ability to have your Pokemon follow you.

Before you can play with this setting, you need to play through the Isle of Armor main quest. After a short period youll be given the option to have your lead Pokemon follow you around within the Isle of Armor area. Once you have access to this, if you want to turn it off you can do that quite easily at the dojo. Head to the left room of the dojo and talk to the small kid in the Pikachu outfit in the bottom of the room.

We don’t know why he’s dressed up as a Pikachu and seems to have his own food bowl on the floor, but this is the place that will let you toggle the option whenever you want. Remember that it’s only your lead Pokemon which will follow you out in the world. Swap your party around to make sure you have the Pokemon you want following you.

Sadly you cant make Pokemon follow you in the main Galar region, but perhaps if the option proves popular enough with Isle or Armor then well get the option added to the core game, but dont hold your breath on that front. Hopefully this guide at least has explained how to make Pokemon follow you in Isle of Armor.

Walking Pokémon return to their former prominence in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, being able to walk with players throughout the entire game.

Though the fact that the starter Pokémon is the first Pokémon that this is allowed for mimics Pokémon Yellow in a way, unlike Yellow, the starter is not the only one able to follow, and any Pokémon obtained by the player can be in this position provided it is the first in the party.

If a walking Pokémon knows a move that can be used on the field, such as Cut or Headbutt, and the correct Badge has been earned , it will be shown to use the move in the overworld when the player comes upon its respective obstacle. When sent into battle, like Red’s Pikachu, it will appear from the side rather than from a Poké Ball. Also, when the walking Pokémon faints, the next Pokémon in the party takes its place as the walking Pokémon.

There are few instances wherein the first Pokémon in the party will not follow players. For example, riding a bicycle will send the Pokémon back to its Poké Ball. This will also cause it to be sent out from its Poké Ball when a battle begins, instead of just appearing from the side. Certain locations, such as Blackthorn Gym and the Global Terminal, also prohibit the walking Pokémon from following players. Large Pokémon, such as Wailord, will be sent back to their Poké Balls as well when entering most buildings, as they are too large.

He’ll ask you, “Do you like taking your Pokémon for a stroll?” If you answer “No,” he’ll put your Pokémon back in its Poké Ball. If you want to switch back to having your Pokémon follow you, talk to this child again and instead answer, “Yes.”

As mentioned before, players will need to complete a few challenges before they can have Pokemon follow them. Players will need to complete the island’s first three challenges and will need to defeat their new rival in battle in a battle to gain this ability.

The first two trials are fetch-quests that have players exploring the island in search of different items. The first has players battling three fast Slowpoke and retrieving a piece of clothing from each one. The second trial has the player searching for Max Mushrooms and leading up to a battle against either Avery or Klara depending on which game the player has. And the third trial is a battle an even more intense battle against the player’s new rival.

After the player wins the final battle they will be rewarded with the new legendary Pokemon, Kubfu. Master Mustard will then inform the player that they can now have a Pokemon follow them while they travel around the Isle of Armor. Now, the first Pokemon in the player’s party will follow them by default.
