Pokemon Ruby And Sapphire Manga

Must read

Normans Burning Body In Ruby & Sapphire

Pokemon Special Ruby & Sapphire – Manga Opening

Theres a lot that happens in just a single volume of the Pokemon Adventures manga. Every character has some tragic backstory, the villains always have some world-altering evil plan, and the heroes always seem to figure out how to win, despite the odds. But, in the Ruby and Sapphire story, things get pretty dark and victory seems quite far away.

Near the end, Rubys Dad, Norman, brings Rayquaza to Sootopolis City to break up Kyogre and Groudon’s fighting. But, because Rayquaza doesnt have an orb to control it, Norman had to sort of force it to come along, taking a lot of damage along the way. He eventually dies from his wounds, but not before Ruby figures out that the whole reason his dad Norman had to search for Rayquaza in the first place was thanks to a “mistake” Ruby made as a kid.

To make matters worse, right as Norman dies, Archie and Maxie come back from the Cave of Origin and literally burn Normans body just so he cant take control of Rayquaza again. Of course, because this is Pokemon, Norman and a bunch of other characters are brought back with magical Celebi powers later on. But still, it was a pretty horrifying scene.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

The Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc focuses on the returning Hoenn trio of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald based on the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire versions of the game. Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald acquire Mega Bracelets and Mega Stones from Steven to help aid his quest to save the Earth from impending doom by a meteorite while Ruby encounters a mysterious girl along the way. Sapphire is traumatized when she learns the truth about the meteor, and in result of that trauma she loses her voice and sense of smell. Ruby takes on the role of lorekeeper and gets Rayquaza to trust him so they can save the world through the use of dragon lore. It is based primarily on the events of the Delta Episode in the games.

The arc was released digitally on Shogakukan’s “Web Sunday,” with a new chapter on the first Tuesday of every month. The first mini-volume was released in Japan on July 24, 2015.

Ruby And Sapphire’s Rivalry Is More Antagonistic

While the player and the alternate gender protagonist are considered rivals in Ruby and Sapphire, it is one between friends. The alternate protagonist is always friendly to you, and only battles with you as a benchmark for each other’s progress.

In comparison, Ruby and Sapphire’s rivalry in the manga is much stronger. This is because of their opposing viewpoints Ruby believes that Pokemon battling is pointless, while Sapphire doesn’t understand the point of caring so much about appearance. While they eventually grow close over the events of the manga, they often butt heads early on.

Gym Battles Work Differently

As Sapphire travels throughout the Hoenn region, she quickly comes into contact with the Gym Leaders of the Hoenn League. She quickly challenges them to a Gym battle for their badge, in the same way, that players will do as they play through the games.

However, in the manga, things work a little differently when it comes to Gym battles. Both the challenger and the Gym Leader can call out up to two Pokemon, but if even one loses, then they lose the match. It’s a very different kind of battle compared to what happens in the games, most likely done to promote the new double Pokemon battles that Generation III added.

The Legendary Titans Play A Part In The Story

Pokemon Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire Manga Volume 1

The Legendary Titans are legendary Pokemon that appear in the Ruby and Sapphire games. They are secret Pokemon that can only be found and caught in hidden locations found throughout Hoenn, and they play no role in the story, despite their unbelievable strength.

However, in the manga, Steven and the Elite Four work together to unseal the legendary Titans so that they can be used to fight back the aftereffects of Kyogre and Groudon’s battle. While they mostly serve a support role, they are vital to stopping the chaotic battle between Kyogre and Groudon.

Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version are 2002 role-playing video games developed by Game Freak, published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. They are the first installments in the third generation of the Pokémon video game series, also known as the “advanced generation”. After years of Nintendo being the sole publisher of the franchise in all regions, The Pokémon Company co-published the games for the first time since the establishment of the joint-owned company in 1998. They were first released in Japan in late 2002 and internationally in 2003. Pokémon Emerald, an enhanced version, was released two years later in each region. Remakes of the two games, titled Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, were released for the Nintendo 3DS worldwide in November 2014, exactly twelve years to the date of the original Ruby and Sapphire release date, with the exception of Europe, where it released a week later.

Zombie Pokemon In Red & Blue

Right in the very first volume of the series, quite a few horrifying things happen. Red goes through all the towns of Kanto, gathering gym badges one by one as one would expect. Then, of course, he eventually ends up in Lavender town. Mr. Fuji tells him about the ghosts in the tower, how Blue went into the tower earlier to investigate, so Red goes to check it out as well.

Not 10 feet in the door, Red runs into the ghosts of deceased Pokemon, but theyre a lot more zombie-like than ghost-like. In fact, after destroying the degrading remains of a Psyduck, Red notices these things are basically corpses piloted by spirits. it’s a rather dark event that’s very quickly glossed over, but that one panel of zombie Psyduck still haunts a lot of fans to this day.

Ruby And Sapphire Compete In Different Aspects

Pokemon Special Omega Ruby & Alpha Saphire – Manga Opening

In the original games, the player’s goal is the same as it is in every game: beat all eight Gym Leaders, then conquer the Hoenn League. The player character that wasn’t chosen serves as one of the main rivals, and they generally compete with the player while they work to become a Pokemon Professor.

In the manga, however, their rivalry is a little different. Ruby only cares about Pokemon Contests, while Sapphire wants to collect all eight Gym Badges. Their competition is to see who can make more progress towards their goals within the next eighty days.

A Catastrophe Occurs And The Gym Leaders Get Involved

When Groudon and Kyogre are re-awakened, the entire Hoenn region is beset by natural disasters. The Gym Leaders set out to stop the fighting between Groudon and Kyogre while also trying to stop both Team Magma and Team Aqua on top of helping the citizens escape the disasters.

This is very different from the games, where a less severe version of the events occurs. While Wallace, the Gym Leader of Sootopolis City, does get involved in the situation, his role is largely minor, and the rest of the Gym Leaders are absent. Despite being one of the most iconic aspects of Pokemon, the Gym Leaders don’t really do a lot plotwise.

Gigi’s Betrayal In Black & White

The character N, who was one of the antagonists of the Pokemon Black and White games, has always been an incredibly interesting character. How Pokemon are forced into captivity is a topic the franchise seemed to avoid like the plague. Then came N, who was basically the personification of this concept.

In the games, hes already scary enough, but in the Pokemon Adventures manga, hes pretty terrifying. Theres a particular scene where N is alone in a Ferris wheel with the trainer named White. A lot of arguments about ideals between the two trainers happen in this compartment until White decides that shes had enough. She opens to door to hop out of the Ferris Wheel and escape…somehow, calling out for her Tepig Gigi behind her. But, Gigi instead hops onto Ns lap, completely siding with him rather than her trainer.

This moment isnt disturbing in the usual ways, rather, it is horribly uncomfortable because the Pokemon franchise has spent decades convincing people that Pokemon dont really betray their trainers, yet Gigi does exactly that, and for good reason too.

Vermillion City Got Blown Up In Yellow

Next up is an event in the series thats a lot more destructive. The events of Pokemon Adventures Yellow feature a character of the same name searching for Red after he disappeared. To do that, Yellow has to cross the ocean but has no water Pokemon or boat to carry her.

So, Yellow enters a surfing tournament in the hopes of winning the grand prize, a Dragonair. The only problem is Lance shows up all of a sudden and has Dragonair fire a Hyper Beam that literally decimates a portion of Vermillion City.

Wally’s First Caught Pokemon Is A Kecleon

Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire: Volume 1

Wally is a character that appears in one of the first towns the player visits in Ruby and Sapphire. A sickly child hoping to get a Pokemon companion, he eventually catches a Ralts and becomes a secondary rival for the player.

In the manga, however, Wally catches a Kecleon as his first Pokemon instead. While he does end up keeping Ruby’s Ralts by chance, it’s not the first Pokemon he ever catches like in the games.

Ruby Runs Away From Home

In the world of Pokemon, most trainers often leave for their journeys with their parents’ blessings. It’s very normal for a child to strike out and travel the world with their Pokemon, and Ruby and Sapphire is no exception.

However, in the manga, Ruby nevertheless chooses to run away when he starts his journey. This is because he believes that his father does not approve of him doing Pokemon Contests instead of focusing on battling. While he eventually finds out that isn’t true, his beliefs cause him to make this rash decision early in the story.

Sexualization In Red & Blue

While Viz Media, the American distributor of the Pokemon Adventures manga, decided to keep most of the violence intact for the English translation, it ended up censoring other things, like the sexualization of underage girls.

There are multiple occasions in the original version of the manga where young female characters are put in compromising or sexually suggestive situations. Needless to say, some of these scenes didn’t make it to the American version of the manga.

The Elite Four Wants To Destroy Humanity In Red & Blue

Moving on to the Elite Four of the Kanto region, all of which the Pokemon Adventures manga managed to turn into pretty decent villains. Agatha is a conniving trickster who brainwashed Bruno and is convinced Pokemon and humans arent meant to get along. Lorelei is a cold and blunt person with these odd ice powers who despises humans for their misdeeds against Pokemon.

Then theres Bruno, a man solely driven by the hunger to grow stronger and fight in tougher battles, Agatha takes advantage of this to get Bruno to join their plan. And finally, theres Lance, a man who can speak to and heal Pokemon, which is why he’s so angry at humanity. This groups plan is to wipe out the entire human race and create a paradise for Pokemon to live in. Not sure what people were expecting for the Elite Four in the manga, but a bunch of genocidal maniacs was likely not it.

Ghetsis Beating N Almost To Death In Black & White 2

Pokemon White 2 Hack: Vs. Ruby and Sapphire (Adventures Manga)

Going right back to the violent stuff, lets talk about Ghetsis and Ns relationship. Ghetsis took in N since he was young and basically groomed him to hate humans and eventually become the King of Team Plasma. The two of them seemed to have an understanding relationship, but its revealed later on that Ghetsis simply used Ns crusade for Pokemon liberation as a way to take any possible methods of retaliation away from the populace.

Eventually, N figures all this out and becomes an enemy of Team Plasma during the Black and White 2 storyline. Theres a particular moment where N saves Ghetsis from falling off the Plasma Frigate. At this moment, the usual cold toward humans N mentions that hes always loved Ghetsis like a father, despite all that’s happened.

And how does this man respond? By beating N almost to death with his cane while saying the most horrible things possible to N so that he’ll let him go. Its just a surprisingly violent and heavy scene that immediately shows the depths of Ghetsis villainy.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Arc

Sapphire first appears trying to train up both her and Ruby’s Kirlia in the hopes that they both evolve into Gardevoir. However, just as the two prepare to evolve, Sapphire accidentally kicks a Dawn Stone on the ground towards her own Kirlia, who evolves into Gallade instead of Gardevoir. Emerald laughs at the idea of Sapphire owning such a manly evolution and Ruby’s evolving into a feminine one. Sapphire gets angry and attempts to smash Emerald with a huge boulder as Steven Stone watches.

Sapphire Was Raised In The Wild

In the games, the male and female playable characters tend to have similar backgrounds, although their fathers will change depending on who the player chooses. The player will always be Norman’s child, while the playable character that wasn’t chosen will be Professor Birch’s child.

This applies to the manga, where Ruby is Norman’s son, while Sapphire is Professor Birch’s daughter. However, the manga puts a spin on things, and while Ruby is a city boy who fusses over the appearance of his Pokemon, Sapphire is a wild child who likes to spend her time in the forests thanks to her father’s research taking him all over Hoenn. In her first appearance, she is wearing clothes made from leaves and she often adopts a stance where she stands on all fours.

Connectivity To Other Devices

Ruby and Sapphire have limited e-Reader support. Nintendo released Battle-e Cards, a set of e-Reader cards that contained trainer battles in which the player could see previously-hidden Pokémon. A special e-Reader card called the Eon Ticket was also released obtained through the Mystery Gift function, the Ticket allows the player to reach a place called Southern Island. There, the player faces either Latios or Latias, depending on which version of the game is used.

Ruby and Sapphire are also able to connect to the GameCube games Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness and Pokémon Box: Ruby and Sapphire. In the former two, once players reach a certain point in the game, they are able to transfer Pokémon between Colosseum / XD and Ruby / Sapphire. Additionally, those who pre-ordered Colosseum were able to access the Pokémon Jirachi and see a preview of the movie Pokémon: Jirachi Wish Maker. Pokémon Box allows players to store and organize their Pokémon on the GameCube. Also, in the European version of Pokémon Channel, players could receive a Jirachi at a certain point in the game, which they could then transfer over to Ruby or Sapphire.

Ruby And Sapphire Chapter

Pokémon Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire, Vol. 4

He moved to the Hoenn region since his father could not stay with them in Johto. He first met Sapphire when they were young. Sapphire was unquestionably more feminine before, so he did not recognize her when they met later on at the beginning of the Ruby/Sapphire storyline, especially since he did not know her name. Sapphire was completely covered in a cloak of leaves when they met again, so Ruby thought she was a Pokémon. When she spoke, he got frightened and asked his Poochyena, Nana, to bite her. After settling things between them, they made a bet to return to the base Sapphire took him within 80 days after achieving their respective goals. In his case, he plans on getting all the ribbons from every Pokémon Contest category. He arrives in his first town, but only to have to rescue a kid, Wally, and to be almost caught by his dad, Norman.

After an incident, he was saved by a fisherman, who took him on a boat, and Ruby stating that he and the fisherman had no common interests and that he is sea sick, along with Coco, the Delcatty. Afterwards he lands and says thanks for the ride. He goes on and get contest ribbons but at the same time bumps to either team aqua or team magma. Later because of this Ruby’s reflex battle came back and has shown his true strength to Sapphire to which Sapphire was angry about him lying about his strength.
