They Have Defeated Pikachu In Battle

How To SPEEDRUN Jessie & James (Meowth Balloon) In Pokémon GO! (2021) | Team Rocket Battle Guide

After many trials and tribulations, for the first time in their careers, Jessie and James finally defeated Pikachu in a tag team battle. Their win sent shockwaves across Pokémon forums.

With a combination of Mareanies spike cannon and Mimikyus play rough, they managed to defeat Pikachu. Ash was shock when it happened, while Jessie and James instantly began gloating, happy that it had actually happened. However, their victory was short-lived, since Bewear then swam from the ocean side to drag them back to their den.

In the Pokémon fandom, critics praised the Sun and Moon series for increasing Team Rocket’s strength and matching it with Ashs. After all, the trio has been repeatedly beaten by a ten-year-old across the series.

Jessie And James Line

Unlike other Team Go Rocket Leaders, players will actually fight Jessie and James back to back.

This isn’t all too difficult with the right lineup, not least when you’re able to heal during the fights as well.

To make things that little bit easier, both Jessie and James will always use the same Pokémon team, so at least you know what to expect.

Jessie’s first Pokémon is Scyther, followed by Ekans and Stantler, whilst James’ first Pokémon is always Pinsir, followed by Koffing and Grimer.

Players who beat Jessie and James will receive 500 Stardust and a Rocket Radar component for each victory.

Need help defeating Jessie and James? Don’t worry, have a read of these counters just below:

Scyther Counters

Your best counters for Scyther are Electric, Fire, Flying, Ice, and Rock-type Pokémon, who are strong against bug-type Pokémon like Scyther. Rock-types have an added bonus of being doubly super-effective, so we’d opt for a strong Tyranitar or Rampardos.

Ekans Counters

Ekans is weak to Ground and Psychic-type Pokémon. Since Ekans is a pretty weak Pokémon, you can probably get away with picking any of your Pokémon with the highest CP, however we’d always recommend using typings to your advantage.

Stantler Counters

Stantler is weak to Fighting-type Pokémon. Stantler is also pretty weak, but Fighting-types will tear through it no problem.

In The Core Series Games

In Pokémon Yellow, Jessie and James appear and are involved in Team Rocket’s four major schemes , and typically appear before the player battles Giovanni. They also replace the three Team Rocket members in the Pokémon Tower that hold Mr. Fuji hostage as well as two other Team Rocket Grunts: one close to the exit of Mt. Moon and the other one near the entrance to the President’s room at Silph Co. Curiously, they are never referred to by their individual names and share their Trainer class with all other Team Rocket Grunts.

They first attack the player in Mt. Moon, while trying to take one of the rare Fossils uncovered there. Later, in Celadon City‘s Rocket Hideout, Jessie and James guard Giovanni’s room. During that time, as the player runs into them, they are eager for revenge after the main character busted up their plans at Mt. Moon. Afterwards, they hold Mr. Fuji hostage at Pokémon Tower, attacking the player on the seventh floor. Finally, at Silph Co. in Saffron City, Jessie and James make their final appearance, once again trying to stall the main character from reaching their Boss.

Unlike in the anime, Jessie and James do not follow the main character around and come up with their usual evil plans to capture Pikachu. In addition, Meowth cannot talk, and he resides in a Poké Ball instead of traveling around with Jessie and James. In addition, they also receive their own encounter music, a track not heard in Red and Blue.

Jessie Failed Pokmon Nursing School

Jessies past is incredibly detailed. You would never guess that she used to be in a Pokémon nursing school. When Jessie was young she failed the actual Nursing class and decided to begin training as a Chansey, since the Pokémon often go to their own nursing schools in order to help Nurse Joy.

This is logically impossible and yet, Jessie managed to fail this class as well since she fell asleep when a Pokémon used Sing on her. Jessie dropped out, but before she left, a Chansey that she helped out gave Jessie half of her necklace as a token of gratitude.

Flash forward years later and Jessie reunites with her old Pokémon friend in “Ignorance is Blissey.” In the episode, Blissey, Jessie’s old friend, tries to take care Ash and his Pokémon.

Blissey remembers Jessie, but is still having trouble with Pokémon caregiving, and unintentionally gives them some of the centers food supply. In order to help her friend, Jessie assists Blissey one more time and helps her to become a great Pokémon nurse.

Gourgeist Helped Jessie To A Freestyle Win And Was A Helpful Companion

Blasting Off Again: Mind

As a Pumpkaboo, Jessies one and only Kalos Pokémon is an asset to its trainer, using its flashlight ability to light up a cave in “The Clumsy Crier Quiets the Chaos!”. It can also use Leech Seed which, in the anime, stops opposing Pokémon from moving. After it evolves into a Gourgeist, its ability to make fireworks with various Seed Bomb and Shadow Ball combinations made for strong showings in several Freestyle Performances, winning Jessie a Princess Key at the Couriway Rookie Class Pokémon Showcase.

Battle with Jessie and James is similar to battle with any other Grunt from GO Rocket Balloon, however both of them can be fought from the same Meowth Balloon. Right after defeating Jessie, player can engage battle with James.

I Choose You And The Power Of Us

I Choose You!

The Team Rocket trio appeared in I Choose You!, which is set in a different continuity from the main series. They first appeared in disguise in a Pokémon Center, and were wanted for stealing Pokémon. When a Pokémon Trainer who had just battled an Entei hurried inside the Center, Team Rocket eavesdropped on the conversation and decided to hunt for Entei themselves. While looking for Entei in the forest, they were blasted off by a raging Onix.

Once they heard that Ash and his friends were heading to Mount Tensei to meet Ho-Oh, they decided to follow them, hoping to catch the Legendary Pokémon. They eventually came across a pack of sleeping Primeape. They saw it as an opportunity to catch some, but the Primeape woke up and started tossing them in the air, blasting them off once again.

Later on in the movie, the trio nearly caught up to the gang as they headed closer towards Mount Tensei. They were seen climbing Mount Tensei, tired and hungry. They eventually see Ho-Oh and stare on in amazement. Meowth became excited to the point where he accidentally let go and fell on James and Jessie, causing all three of them to fall off the mountain.

They appeared once more in the film’s ending credits, following Ash and Pikachu in their Meowth Balloon. During that time, Wobbuffet was revealed to have somehow been added to their team.

The Power of Us

Team Rocket’s Motto Is Actually Wrong

Every Team Rocket Pokémon Ranked From WORST to BEST

Directly after they reveal themselves, Team Rocket often breaks into their motto before they launch into battle. However, if you actually break down the words, it turns out the motto is an oxymoron to what Team Rocket, as an organization, stands for.

For example, the lyrics go: To protect the world from devastation! To unite all peoples within our nation! To denounce the evils from truth and love! Meanwhile, Cassidy and Butch– Jessie and James’ main rivals– say: To infect the world with devastation! To blight all people in every nation To denounce the goodness of truth and love!

It turns out that Jessie and James created their own motto, which is entirely inaccurate. Its likely that they guessed the motto and were under the assumption that speed of light meant that their official Team Rocket uniforms were white.

Meowth Could Talk But Not Battle Very Well

As a Team Rocket member, Meowth is as much to blame for their failings as Jessie and James are. As a Pokémon, he is rarely successful when he goes into battle. Other trainers, like Tyson in the Ruby and Sapphire series, are able to draw out Meowth’s full battling potential. However, Meowths mysterious talking ability comes in handy for both Team Rocket and the viewer, as he translates what other Pokémon are saying. Not that it helps that much when it comes to getting away with crime.

James Collects Bottle Caps

James collects bottle caps as one of his many hobbies. When he was young, James had an entire box of them and would constantly add rare ones to his collection. He claimed that he drank enough soda to float an aircraft carrier.

In one episode, Murkrow steals the whole collection, which prompts both Jessie and Ashs gang to chase the Pokémon. Bottlecaps are actually a item in the Pokémon Universe and are quite valuable. In the show, there are multiple times when Team Rocket sell caps to fellow collectors.

For example, in order to purchase a mecha robot to steal Pikachu, Jessie and Meowth force James to sell his rarest caps. The Pokémon games would later incorporate bottle caps in Pokémon Sun and Moon for the Hyper Training schools. The school uses bottle caps as currency for training Pokémon IVs. Game Freak likely incorporated this in response to Pokémon Battle tournaments.

Pokmon Temporarily Owned By All Members Of Team Rocket

Controlled only

Main article: Delibird

Delibird first appeared in Dues and Don’ts under the ownership of a Rocket Scout. She claimed that she and the Delibird were trying to recruit new members for Team Rocket. When Jessie and James told her that they were Team Rocket members, she said that they weren’t in the system. James pulled out his membership card, and the scout informed them that because they hadn’t paid any of their dues, they had been kicked out of Team Rocket.

The scout then told them that if they defeated a Trainer, they would be allowed back in. Using Delibird, Team Rocket battled Ash, and despite the fact that he won, the scout allowed them to rejoin. But she also told them that her Delibird would be following them around to collect their dues that they had still not paid.

While it appears the Delibird has stopped pestering the trio for their dues, it still appears from time to time as a courier, as seen in Grating Spaces! and The Thief That Keeps on Thieving!.

That Time They Finally Won

Every time we think Jessie and James have a real plan to capture Pikachu, that they might finally have a chance to achieve their ultimate goal, something happens. Either as a result of some plot twist, Ash’s superior Pokémon battle skills, or their own incompetence, they fail every time. That is, until one fateful episode of Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Long story short, a Mareanie falls in love with James because it turns his face purple. When they get caught up in attacking Ash and Pikachu, the Mareanie’s feelings towards James causes it to fight as hard as hard as it can. That, along with a Mimikyu that really hates Pikachu, allows Team Rocket to finally win a battle against Ash fair and square. Ash’s surprise is understandable, but the looks of shock on Team Rocket’s faces is priceless.

Of course, a Bewear shows up and whisks away the villains before they can take Pikachu, so no harm no foul?

Jessie And Misty Are The Same Person

I may have embellished a bit, but little-known fact about Jessie’s voice actress, Rachael Lillis is that she also provided the voice for a handful of other characters, including ones in Pokémon. Given her vocal range, she was able to go from a sultry feminine voice to all manner of animalistic and often-times silly noises.

Her ‘Pokédex’ of credits include Jigglypuff, Goldeen, Horsea, Poliwag, Venonat, Torchic, Silcoon, and Beautifly. She also voiced Chansey, which is ironic considering Jessie’s history, and even Pikachu. In a way, she was trying to find herself all along…

And of course, her voice was also lent to the character of Misty, of one Ash’s closest friends. It’s a fact that often surprises many fans of the show. Just goes to show how much voice talent Rachael really has.

They Get No Respect No Respect At All

Pokemon Characters Battle: Red Vs Jessie and James (Team Rocket Trio)

Even though they’re integral parts of the anime aeries and manga, Jessie and James are surprisingly absent in the video games. For some reason, the only title they appeared in was Pokémon Yellow, originally released way back in 1999 . They do get recognizable sprites, but their in-game name is simply “Rocket” which is honestly so rude.

They do retain their core motive to steal your Pokémon and their cocky ambition while doing so . They’ve won once in the show, but any seasoned player would never let them win in the game.

How To Find Jessie And James Meowth Balloon

If you want to know how to find Jessie and James Meowth balloon, then you need to make sure you keep your eyes locked on the skyline and map within the game during the Secrets of the Jungle event.

Obviously, the Meowth balloon is a little easier to spot compared to the normal Team Rocket Balloons, but you need to remain observant. The Meowth balloon spawn rate is once in every 6 hours.

The balloons are currently not spawning in Pokémon GO, but we’ll update this guide as soon as they’re live.

Koffing And Weezing Always Had The Exits Covered

Like how Jessie had Ekans and Arbok, James had Koffing and Weezing. Its move-set of Smog, Smokescreen, Tackle and Poison Gas made it perfect for their getaway plans after they had stolen Pokémon or done something else dastardly along those lines. No matter how weak a Pokémon may be, using moves that impair vision and affect breathing are more likely to work consistently and to be an asset to a criminal organization like Team Rocket.

Pokmon Retconned Jessie And James Biker Life

The original Pokémon series includes a large number of retcons. For example, the series retconned aspects about how Jessie and James met. In the Indigo series, Jessie and James were former biker leaders before they became Team Rocket members. This explains how and why they came to be so close with one another well before they left the gang.

However, this would later be retconned in the Pokémon Chronicles episode “Training Daze!” One of the episodes shows how Jessie, James, and Meowth met through a training montage.

Apparently, Jessie, one of the top potential trainees, was the lone wolf of the group, preferring to work by herself. Or at least she did until she met James and Meowth in a joint training mission.

The Rocket Trio would later pass together and become full-fledged members. While they appear like goofs throughout the series, Jessie and James are competent and devoted to Team Rocket.
