Pokemon Silver Gold Or Crystal

Must read

Silvers Past With Pryce Giovanni & Green

Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal – Gym Leader Battle (Kanto)

Silver is a much more likable character in the manga compared to his game incarnation. For example, the version of Silver in the manga was kidnapped by Pryce, made into a slave along with Green, and escaped. He eventually started working with the ex-Pokemon Champion Lance, and eventually got his own Pokedex.

The game iteration doesnt have this same background. This is likely because Pryce isnt nearly the same character in the games, and Green was sadly not around as a character this early in the franchise. That said, both versions of the character are still the son of Team Rockets leader, Giovanni.

Story Changes In Pokemon Crystal

The narrative for Gold and Silver is identical in every way, and the only major differences between those games are the Pokemon available for capture. Crystal, however, embellishes the story and makes some changes. The legendary Pokemon, Suicune, is encountered several times throughout the story, along with a new character, Eusine. The mythical dog and its compatriots are required to be awakened to challenge the gym leader, Morty. Once stirred from its rest, the dog will be encountered in several scripted events.

Other changes in Crystal include a tweak to the chain of events leading up to acquiring the Rising Badge. During this sequence, players will be able to obtain a special Dratini that knows the move ExtremeSpeed, if they can correctly answer a series of questions. Additionally, a step was added necessitating players to meet the florist’s assistant so that they could progress past the strange tree, which is also known as Sudowoodo.

Hints At Regional Variants Before They Became A Reality

In the same vein, Bill hinted at regional variant Pokemon in the GSaC section of the manga. At this point in the story, Crystal had already received her Pokedex from Professor Oak and was traveling with her all-star team of surprisingly capable Pokemon, sending anything she caught back to the Professor for his research.

While talking to Bill, he mentions to her that Pokemon have regional variants based on where theyre found and captured. In the GSaC games, this isnt true . However, a long way down the line, these regional variants became a reality starting with the Sun and Moon games.

Gold Turns His Bike Into A Scooter

Pokemon SFX Gen 2: Gold, Silver, Crystal

Gold is like the perfect encapsulation of a 90s kid. He wears a backward hat, skateboards around, has goggles, and doesnt listen to authority. So when he ends up facing Whitney, the Goldenrod City gym leader, in a bike race, hes going to go about it his own way.

Instead of using the bikes the franchise is so iconically known for, Gold instead takes the bike apart. He combines them into a scooter, a method of transport that was an icon of the 90s. Sadly, it wasn’t an option in the games.

Pokemon Gold/silver Vs Crystal

Short: Do the upgrades in Crystal make Gold/Silver completely obsolete? I’ve failed to get through Crystal twice in the past, and I’m getting a GameBoy Light pretty soon, so I’m probably not going to feel motivated to play on anything else for a while.

Long: I played Red a ton as a kid on my trusty GBP, and along with my brother who had Blue, we each got all 151.

I’ve made two attempts on Crystal during my life, but both on emulators, and I’ve never finished it. First time I got the 8 badges, and never got around to finishing the 2nd region. Second time I just lost interest a couple badges in. I eventually got a real GBC and an EverDrive, but when I tried to pick up where I left off, I felt no connection to my old save.

So instead I took a chance and played FireRed on my backlight-modded GBA, this time not caring about collecting them all, just building an interesting team and having a good time.

I found I had much more fun picking a small team early on and focusing on leveling it, while leaving slots open for Pokemon later in the game, rather than always having 6 and grinding to keep them all similarly leveled. This new strategy for me has rekindled my interest in playing through the series.

So, assuming I make it through Yellow and jump right into Gen 2, am I really giving up all that much to play Gold/Silver rather than Crystal? Also I’m on an EverDrive without a RTC, which AFAIK only affects Crystal.

Pokemon Gold Silver And Crystal Wiki Guide

In Gold and Silver, most Pokémon have gender, indicated by the “Mars” or “Venus” symbols next to their names. You need to take your Pokémon to the Day Care Center on Route 34 to breed them. When a male and a female of the same species spend some time together in the Day Care an egg will be laid.

To figure out whether two Pokémon are compatible, talk to Pokémon after you have given them to the Day Care Center. If you receive one of the following three messages after the sentence “It’s Pokémon A that was left with the Day-Care Man/Lady,” the pairing will result in an egg:

  • It’s friendly with Pokémon B.
  • It appears to care for Pokémon B.
  • It shows interest in Pokémon B.

Note that you dont necessarily need two Pokémon of exactly the same species sometimes a similar Pokemon will be able to stand in , and the miraculous Ditto can use its shape-changing ability to mate with pretty much any Pokemon.

A Pokémon egg will hatch if you carry it around with you for a while . In most cases, the egg hatches into a low-level specimen of the lowest evolution of that Pokémon. . Some Pokémon, such as Pikachu, Clefairy and Jigglypuff, have new “baby” forms that can only be found by breeding. If you’re looking to breed one of the baby forms, make sure that the female is of the right species, and you should be able to succeed .

Here are some basic match-ups that lead to interesting breeding results:

Pokemon Gold Silver And Crystal Dv And Hidden Power Guide

Hidden Power is an attack that can vary in power and type, depending on the user’s DVs, or Deter Values. DVs are like built-in Pokemon genes – they determine how strong a certain Pokemon can be. Each Pokemon that you fight has a random DV for every stat, ranging from 0 – 15. If the Pokemon has 15 for a DV, then it can have the max possible stat for that specie. Likewise, if it has a DV of 0, then it will have the lowest possible stat.

In order to determine your Pokemon’s DVs, it is recommended that they are at Level 100 or Level 50 with all/none of their Stat Experience.

So, let’s say you have your Pokemon at Level 100 with all of its Stat Exp. Great! Now we can determine its DVs. I will be using my level 100 Houndoom as an example throughout the rest of this explanation.

DV

258 254

Now that we know how to determine DVs, let’s take a look at Hidden Power’s base damage formula:

÷ 2) + 31

BASE DAMAGE =
X = Attack/Defense/Speed/Special DV
Y = Special DV

So what does all this mean? Let’s use my trained Houndoom as an example.

To figure out what X is in the Base Damage Formula, take each of your Pokemon’s DVs and convert each value into a 0 if it’s 7 or less, or into a 1 if it’s 8 or more. My Houndoom’s DVs are 1/8/2/13, so I’d convert that into 0101. Do you see why? The 1 is less than 7, so I convert it to 0. The 8 is 8 or more, so I convert it to a 1, and so on. Make sense?

Gen 2 Catching Mechanics

Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal – Bug Catching Contest

Pokémon Gen 2 streamlined the capture process and made it into something a lot more direct and easy to understand for the player. As such, the mechanics can be separated into 3 categories with each increasing the catch chance in different ways. It is important to note, however, that because a lot of bugs are present in the formulas used, some intended changes have no effect. The parts affected by such glitches are indicated. Finally, most of the data used is taken from the Gen II Capture Mechanics article on The Cave of Dragonflies.

With the Rising Badge, you can now use Pokemon of any level including ones received in trades. If you have any level 100 Pokemon you can import from the First Gen Games, now would be a good time to bring them in for the Elite Four. I reccommend bringing in mixed sweepers that are level 70 or higher to steamroll your way through the Elite Four.

Dont have access to the First Gen games? No worries, I got you covered!

Location And Story Changes In Pokemon Crystal

A few of the locations were given upgrades in Pokemon Crystal, and a few story mechanics have been upgraded.

  • The Ruins of the Alph has a new subplot, revealing more about the ancient Unown‘s background, and has more puzzles and more common Unown.
  • The Ice Path now has more ice, and the puzzles were altered.
  • A new character who’s searching for Suicune now appears.
  • Trainers who call your phone after battling now have distinct personalities.
  • You’ll be able to obtain a Dratini with ExtremeSpeed after receiving the Rising Badge and answering the questions to a new quiz correctly in the Dragon’s Den.
  • The first Battle Tower ever to appear in a Pokemon game is accessible north of Route 40.

Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version are 1999 role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color. They are the first installments in the second generation of the Pokémon video game series. They were released in Japan in 1999, Australia and North America in 2000, and Europe in 2001. Pokémon Crystal, an enhanced version, was released a year later in each region. In 2009, on the 10th anniversary of Gold and Silver, remakes titled Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver were released for the Nintendo DS.

The games introduce 100 new species of Pokémon and follow the progress of the player character in their quest to master Pokémon battling. Both games are independent of each other but feature largely the same plot and, while both can be played separately, it is necessary to trade between these games and their predecessors in order to fully complete the games’ Pokédex. The Johto Saga of the Pokémon anime is based on the new region introduced in the games.

Ill pause here to provide some helpful advice for those who have access to a second 3DS with a copy of Red/Blue/Yellow. You will want to import all of the following 1st Gen Pokemon or their evolutions and breed them immediately:

  • Bulbasaur
  • Pinsir
  • Scyther

It will probably take several hours and more so assuming you breed Eevee at least 5 times and Hitmonchan or Hitmonlee 2 times but if you take the time to breed all of these Pokemon, not only are you filling around 30 Pokedex entries but if you also take the time to level up and evolve Bulbasaur , Charmander , Squirtle , Magmar and Electabuzz then you will be able to fill some gaps off the bat.

Of course, you can disregard this if you dont have access to another 3DS with Red/Blue/Yellow. This guide will be written with the assumption you dont but I will add extra info for those who do.

Pokémon Gold and Silver

Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version were the first core series games of Generation II for the Game Boy Color.

During development, the games had the tentative titles of Pocket Monsters 2 or Pokémon 2 and Pocket Monsters 2: Gold & Silver , along with a provisional release date of “late 1997”. The number 2 was dropped as of Nintendo Space World 97 in November 1997.

Originally announced for a March 1998 release in Nintendo Space World ’97, the games had their launch date postponed, with Nintendo issuing a public apology where it was claimed that the developers were worn out but fully committed to the project and that they required more time to expand and improve the games further. They were eventually released in Japan on November 21, 1999, in North America on October 15, 2000, and in Europe on April 6, 2001. In South Korea, Nintendo collaborated with Daewon to release the games in the country, which occurred on April 24, 2002 the Korean versions are solely compatible with the Game Boy Color, which was released there in 2000, also by Daewon.

The Entire Pryce Or Mask Of Ice Storyline

Pryce, the Gym Leader of Mahogony Town, is an incredibly different character in the manga than in either the games or the anime. In the manga, hes the mastermind behind the GSaC sections main conflict. He’s also a manipulative, power-hungry person, trying to control time itself using Celebi.

In the anime and games, though, hes just an experienced elderly trainer who meditates under a waterfall all the time. The two versions of this character are like night and day in terms of their personality and goals.

The Gym Leader Exhibition Match

One of the most exciting events in the GSaC section is the Gym Leader exhibition match. The Pokemon Federation sets up this exhibition match of Kanto vs. Johto gym leaders.

Ultimately, it was a way for Oak and his Pokedex Holders to identify the Mask of Ice antagonist of the section, who was known to be one of these gym leaders. It’s an awesome event that would have been incredible to see in the games, especially in an already underrated entry like Pokemon Crystal.

Only On The Game Boy Color

After the success of Gold and Silver, Game Freak decided to continue it by having a complete version like what Pokemon Yellow did for Red and Blue. This new game was titled Pokémon Crystal and featured Suicune as the cover Legendary Pokémon. There were many differences to this game as it related to Gold and Silver, but one stands out above the rest: it was solely a Game Boy Color game.

This meant that anyone who had a Game Boy, played Gold and Silver, and wanted Crystal, would have to shell out the extra money to get a Game Boy Color just to play it. To be fair, the cartridge for the game was a transparent blue and it remains one of the most beautiful Game Boy cartridges to this day.

Special Australian Rev A Revision

Circa 2019-, it was documented that a variation of Pokémon Crystal Version exists for Australia with a different ROM and this was overlooked, even by ROM scene groups. This version is based on Rev A . It made some subtle changes to Game Corner texts and an undocumented Mobile System GB coding change for Mobile Stadium, without actually removing the slot machines, unlike what became of international HeartGold and SoulSilver where the slot machines were replaced with Voltorb Flip.
